4.5 stars!

Look up at the big, blue sky!
A young child and their family go on an outside adventure!

From the deep woods to a friendly fish pond to a fancy flower garden - this book has plenty of memorable activities.

The little one can follow along with real-life activities (like stretching like a tree) or just sit back and enjoy the tale.

Overall, this book was rather cute!

I loved the diversity of the characters and the bright, bold illustrations really made the book pop.

The books are surprisingly indestructible - being washable, chew-able and resistant to tearing.

Part of me wishes it was a bit longer so there was a bit more of a core story but the intended age group really won't notice.

All in all - quite enjoyed this little read!

With thanks to the authors and Workman Publishing for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

LET'S GO OUTSIDE is a delightful book designed with babies in mind. The book takes the reader through a brief tour of the outdoors, complete with actions on each page. Babies are invited to look up at the blue sky, stretch like a tall tree, and buzz like a bee. Each page is full of colorful images with plenty of animals, insects, and parent/baby dyads.

What I loved: The actions in this book are delightful, particularly for young toddlers who will love to stretch like a tall, tall tree and buzz like a bee. The final page of the book asks "What else can you do outside?" and features an image with plenty of fun features. We like to hop like the frog (or bunny), flap our wings like a bird, bark like the dog, flutter our fingers like the butterflies, and hoot hoot like the owl. There are plenty of things for parents to come up with on their own. My young toddler absolutely loves acting these out and comes up with some of his own that make this book really fun and interactive.

The font is really easy for parents to read with an ideal word-to-picture ratio (pages turn fast for short attention spans), and older infants/young toddlers will love acting things out with their parents. You can help them stretch up their arms gently like a tree, and make a funny fish face when you splish like a fish. These sorts of things make reading truly delightful for little ones.

The images are also really fun with tons of bright colors, animals, and insects that will delight young children as they can point them out. Each page is full of things that kids will enjoy pointing out. I also really love the diversity of parent/child dyads with several races and both fathers and mothers depicted.

Another great feature is that this book is from the indestructibles line, which means it is safe to chew on, impossible to rip the pages, and easy to clean (just wipe it down). It's really nice just to be able to hand to babies on the go. It's also nice and light with easy to turn pages that allow young readers to explore for themselves.

Final verdict: This delightful book is designed with babies in mind and truly makes reading fun for parents and infants/young toddlers together. Highly recommend for any babies or toddlers.

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

Copy provided by Young Adult Books Central.

In this very short book, a diverse group of characters go outside for a walk, looking at the sky, stretching like the tall trees, splashing in the water, and looking at the flowers. There are lots of plants, animals, and other items to find all over the pages; look at how cute the hedgehog hiding in the corner of the cover is!

There is lots of green in the background, and the figures all have a very geometric feel to them, which makes this great for pointing out shapes. The circles of color on the characters' cheeks gives this a bit of a 1960s feel to the book. The primary colors are also great for quizzing young readers.

The thing that intrigued me the most about this title was the claim that it was rip proof and chew proof. The book certainly held up when I tried very gently to rip a page, and the pages do seem to bounce back from heavy folding and creasing. Admittedly, I even gummed a page, just to be thorough! It didn't taste like anything, and the colorful book only has a faint scent of ink; a lot of picture books and graphic novels have quite an odor, so whatever nontoxic ink was used to not have any of that aroma, nor did any color run when I licked a page repeatedly. I did not drag this through the mud and try to wipe the pages off, but I imagine it would stand up to this sort of activity!

The small size makes this perfect for tucking into a backpack when heading out to the park; these Indestructibles books are very flat, so take up much less space than a board or cloth book. Pack this along with your sandwiches and sunscreen when heading out on an adventure along with Albert's Let's Go On a Bicycle, Gutierrez Hiking 101, Alladin Outside You Notice, or Love's Get Outside.

Title (italicize): Indestructibles: Let's Go Outside!
Author: Amy Pixton (creator), Ekaterine Trukhan
Illustrator (if separate from author): Ekaterine Trukhan
Genre: Children’s Picturebook
Theme(s): Outdoors and Nature
Opening line/sentence (type directly from text): “Look up at the big, blue sky!”
Brief Book Summary (2-3 sentences in your own words): A rhyming book about the outdoors. A short story about what you can do outside and enjoy nature. And on every page is questions and actions for the children to engage.
Response to Two Professional Reviews (3-4 sentences in your own words): On yabookscentral.com there was one from the staff, who called this book a delight because it gives a brief tour of the outdoors, provides different actions so the children can engage, and the illustration is beautiful.
Tell Me Framework (4 sentences in your own words):
Like(s): The illustration is very beautiful. This story describes many things you can do outside but also it does leave room to have a discussion with the children so that they can interact.
Dislike(s): I find it too short, but it is a nice book.
Patterns(s): The author rhymes in their story.
Puzzle(s): N/A
Consideration of Instructional Application (3-4 sentences in your own words) Teacher can take the students outside either during recess or for a nature walk. They will look around and play “I Spy” so they can identify what they see. The teacher could also have the students identify their surroundings, describe the weather, and/or what amazes them/unique.

This book takes the reader on an outdoor adventure where we can stretch up like a tree, swim like a fish, and buzz like a bee. The writing is very simple, and just right for babies and toddlers learning their first words.

The illustrations are bright and colorful, with a cartoony style and simple designs. I love that each page shows a parent and their child having fun in the forest or by the ocean. It's the details in the background of each scene that make this book really special.

As the parents and children explore the outdoors, there are little animals peeking out from behind the trees or swimming in the water. The little snails, turtles, frogs, and butterflies are so cute! There are birds, bunnies, and baby foxes too! So adorable!

The book really does appear to be indestructible. I tried tearing one of the pages, and it wouldn't tear, although it crinkled up a little. I was surprised that the pages are so thin. This is NOT a board book. The pages are made of some kind of thick fiber, and there is no cover or spine. The pages are sewn together into a thin booklet. No wonder they say that babies could chew on it, and it is washable. Without a cover for babies to chew on, and no spine to get torn, the book really is indestructible!

I found this book to be a very good introduction but more for the younger age children like infants and toddlers. It is more about stating facts than explaining to children what is going on. I would use this book in an infant toddler classroom to allow kids to begin to recognize words and decide for themselves whats going on by looking at the illustrations.
