I love this book. It presents history and crafts related to knitting in Portugal. What's more? It is complete with 20 models for you to go and try it for yourself. So, not only a compilation of what was then, but a fresh and beautiful look on what still is and what you can do with it for the future, helping to preserve a part the culture and tradition of a people. At the same time, it lets you create your own clothing and/or enrich your friends' lives with DIY presents. A must have even for those who would not use the practical side of this piece. To my knowledge, a first of the kind on Portuguese crafts. I wish there'd be more. Authors, please step forward.
This book is amazing. I loved reading about traditional Portuguese knitting techniques, and the projects included in the back of the book, mostly accessories, look like fun. This book is great for any knitter, especially those who take interest in knitting history & traditions. Truly a gorgeous book packed full of knowledge!
I was fortunate to visit Rosa Pomar’s shop when I was in Lisbon. I’m sure that this lovely book captures only a small portion of what she knows about Portuguese knitting and yarn. Delighted to find it, and I throughly enjoyed it
If you have never seen Portuguese Knitting in action, it's well worth finding a video to see. It is absolutely fascinating!
This book should be on every knitters wishlist. It is filled with beautiful projects, 20 in total, they all have stunning designs and beautiful colour choices.
The beginning of the book gives an in depth history of Portuguese knitting, with some interesting pictures. There is advice on pins, needles and most importantly yarn.
The projects themselves are varied, hats, bags, leggings and even a pillow, show how versatile and useful Portuguese Knitting can be.
There are several techniques, stitches, hints and tips to help you along the way and you can even embroider your finished design to give it a personal and individual flair.
I adored the Lace Collar, it's very vintage and really beautiful.
