Hawkins Family #1
Home Bound
The life that Jake Hawkins knew was thrown into turmoil the day the sky turned to fire. A sudden blackout has the county in chaos. While at his office 50 miles away from his home, his wife at work 30 miles away and his kids at school, Jake must fight through roving gangs and utter anarchy to reach his wife and kids. Using his survival techniques and skills that he learned from his father and his time as a Scoutmaster, he struggles to get back to his sanctuary. Will his disaster preparedness knowledge and forethought keep him safe from danger? Will the mental strain break him or his family? Can he survive his journey to get home?

I waffled between 3 and 4 stars, but this kept me interested and was a decent first book in a series. There some errors that proofreading could have fixed (you bear with not bare with someone). I like that the main character believed in being prepared which dovetailed nicely with his being involved with Scouts. He might have included some instructions in his wife's bag so she would run a checklist and not get tunnel vision. Jake was worried about more mouths to feed when considering Janey's coworker, but grabs all of his scouts. Makes his attitude toward Jiang-Li a bit hollow. The teachers all seemed to lack a lot of planning and gumption. How long were they going to stay there with the kids before they ran out of food and water? This book kept my attention and I am interested in the next volume to see what happens.

Novel makes the reader think
About what would happen if the world as we knew it suddenly changed to one that had no electricity, means to travel or traditional ways to communicate . Lawless became the norm in this new world. Story makes the person think, what if this really happened? Highly recommended

A-OK
This was a good story but also slightly predictable. I'm left wondering if some of the people they saw will have a reappearance and if some of those mentioned will be seen.
His family of 4, the niece, and 3 scouts (so far) make for a crowded home and more responsibility. Though on the other hand, that's more help and security.

A great story of a family who cares for each other and others.
Love the story and characters, even the crazies. I liked the ending, how the family strive to get home, but thought of others also.

Walking Home
I would have given this novel a 5 if it had been edited, even a little bit. The choppy wording and sentences broke my train of thought too often.
Although this survival novel also tells one what to do, it pricided a new setting and cast of characters,

Great story
I enjoyed getting to know this family. It was heartwarming and stressful at the same time. I appreciate how close this family is and how they pulled together. Looking forward to the next book.

Short and Sweet
A pretty accurate account of "what if." I enjoyed meeting the characters. A believable account of the lack of preparation for most people.

Home Bound: A Survival Story (Hawkins Family Series Book One) an excellent book. Easy instead. Kept my interest up through the whole book.

Just ok.
Decent story line although the sudden psychosis of one character seems improbable. Needs better editing as frequently changing tenses are distracting.

Not bad.
Greater care could have been taken in the proofing process, but overall not a bad, quick read. Being from the Detroit area made the trek of Jake an interesting follow.

Onward, onward ever more~~
The ebb and flow of this journey, make Jake and Janey one Awesome couple.
That coupled with Boy Scouts, makes for nothing but More surprising turns!

Quite a nice book to read. An end- of-the- world as we know it. Lots of tips for readiness for a national disaster. I enjoyed the Hawkins family and how they rose to the occasion. I’ll be interested in what the second book covers.

Michigan Survival
If you’ve ever wondered what you would do if the world fell apart, take a journey with Josh. Bonus if you’re from southeast Michigan; you’ll never look at the area the same again.
