Adelaide, The Royal Mistress is the second instalment of The Royal Mistress sequel. It follows an interesting life of a princess, Rotshidzwa, who doesn’t believe in love but is given an ultimatum to get married to a prince in order to access her father’s estate. The princess was wild and needed a tame, hence her father left a condition on his will – a condition which she did not want fulfil. Forced by her kind of lifestyle, she agreed to fake a marriage in the hope of receiving her portion of the estate and getting divorced afterwards. The prince agreed to enter into a fake marriage, provided that he gets a share of the money. Things did not go to plan as she was expected to prove the legitimacy of her marriage. In the process of proving the legitimacy of the marriage, she ends up falling in love with the prince and complicating his relationship with his partner named Adelaide. Their relationship ended up into a complicate love triangle.
Just like the first book, I did not enjoy this at all. Unfortunately I went book mad and bought all three books at the once, based on the popularity of the series. I deviated from my normal method of selecting what to read, and again got burned (I did the same thing with 50 Shades of Grey). The only reason I gave her 1 star is because the app does not allow me to give “0” stars.
The storyline is very not different from the first one, with a few tweaks here and there. There is no originality in the storyline. Again Venda Prince falls in love with a common girl and the two fight to remain together.
In the second book of the trilogy, we see Ranwedzi, who is of royal blood, fall in love with Adelaide, who is a commoner, while pretending to be married to Rotshi. Rotshi is of royal blood as well, and the younger sister to Mula (from Book 1). She is a 21st Century woman who does not subscribe to the institute of Marriage. Unfortunately when her father passed away, she would only be able to gain access to her inheritance if she was married. She was initially supposed to marry Ranwedzi but her lack of desire to be married, made her decide otherwise. However, upon her father’s marital clause in his will, she found herself broke and needing to access her inheritance. Ranwedzi who was in financial strain, and needing to save his business, came to an agreement with Rotshi. When the truth comes out, all hell breaks loose.
There are too many basic spelling and grammar mistakes for one to just overlook them. Even if the author is self published, take yourself and your reader seriously. Proof read. I don’t expect perfection, but from a professional author, I expect accuracy.
I really felt sorry for Adelaide man, she found Ranwedzi fair ans square. Her sister Linda is the one causing drama in her life. All in all a fabulous, well written book. I'm now on my 3rd one the Rival abd i must say i CAN'T STAND Linda...
The Royal Mistress and The Royal Mistress- Adelaide
About the books: The author of this series shares a very well researched Venda culture and how it affects those that are born from the royal families. The story is set between 3 places (Venda, Midrand and Pretoria). Reading this series will make you thank the Heavens you were born a commoner. In the 1st book we see the struggle that the young prince and his girlfriend, who is a commoner go through as they try to build their relationship. They both know their relationship is doomed and that the prince has a promised wife somewhere in the village. You will definitely share a tear or two as you feel their pain as they fight for their love against everyone. Will they win this battle?
As you read along you will be introduced to royal mistresses. The ladies that know that they will never be wives but settle for this position, some because of love and some because they just want that royal blood next to them and enjoy the benefits too. You will learn that even the elders had such mistresses and they are hidden from the wives but like all “side chicks” some want to be known.
In the book you will hate Musanda (the Chief) for all the trouble and treatment he has given his kids until you learn about the family secret that he kept for years to save his loved ones. His selfless decision that he took will erase all the hate you will have for him. Will his last decision he made on his will regarding her princess make you happy?
Not all prince and princesses follow the rules. Some are rebellious while some respect the wishes of their families to avoid embarrassing their parents. Well some arranged marriages work and people end up falling in love, while some do not work out at all. In book 2 you will not miss this part of a princess who is such a rebel but with time realizes that she is falling for the chosen one, but is it not too late for her? By the way, in this book there are some so called mistresses that fight openly for what they believe they deserve. Both books leave you with so many questions and you will always want to know the end! The author leaves you breathless and demanding answers.
For my own selfish reasons, I was happy the book has minimal SNL age restriction but it is enough to please the addicts.
This book focuses on the sister of the chief - she is spoilt and irritating but I like her. She gets over her past and finally opens her heart to love which was beautiful to see. There are instances where I feel slightly bad for Adelaide but ke life sucks and can be unfair at times. I enjoyed this book better than Book 3 and would gladly give it a 3.8/5.
