Olde Earth Academy #2

Discovery: Year Two

Rate this book
No longer afraid of her ability to see supernatural creatures, Layla looks forward to continuing at the Academy and learning more about her power—without anyone the wiser, hopefully. Easier said than done with her elven date quickly approaching.

When ancient creatures attack, she can’t help but demonstrate what she’s capable of. In doing so, she realizes there is plenty to uncover in Olde Earth’s true mission. The Academy’s council becomes concerned about the strength of the powers she shouldn’t possess yet—enough that they relocate her to new classes. Adapting to schedule changes isn’t so bad, but it’s not all she has on her plate. While she aims to find out who captured the scaled flying horse that saved her life, she also struggles to deal with her irritating sister and a changing friendship with Flynn.

With deceptive instructors, sketchy so-called friends, and the traditional families who insist on keeping the elf lineages as pure as possible, Layla begins to see that the Academy isn’t so much about sharing information as it is for reaping it. Which makes discovering certain truths a competition for survival.

The cliffhanger ending is a very disappointing trick

I really like the story but I will not be reading anything else from this author. This book ended with the heroine literally falling off a cliff and her love interest jumping off to save her.

I bought this book because I liked the first one. I don't appreciate the author's attempt to force me to buy the next book just to see how they get saved. It's sad to see a good story ruined with this trick.

This second book in the series following Layla's time at a magic academy picked up right after the first book ended. It dives deeper into the plots that are happening behind the scenes at the school while also letting her shine as she grows in understanding of what the school is really all about.

There are some really fun relationship dynamics between her and her friends, the teachers, and her twin sister which makes for quite an enjoyable read. Once again it ends on a cliffhanger, daring you not to continue right to the next book.

Overall it's quickly developing into a fun series I can comfortably look forward to.

Layla finally accepts she is a Pure with powers over animals and possibly more to come. She still can’t find her buddy the Creature she saved and who saved her and her sister from the sea creature. She and Flynn are now training with Wolf and Marcie after the council figures out what they can do. Mr. Suthering is doing what he can to help but he is outnumbered on the council.
I love this book and series and can’t wait for more.

Just as gripping as book 1. There is so much to think about and learn about Olde Earth. Layla sure has her hands full. We learn more about some of the older people there, which is pretty awesome. I love Marcy and Wolf. I can't wait to learn more about some of the others. Highly recommend!

Book Review: Discovery: Book Two of Olde Earth Academy Series
Author: Amabel Daniels
FIVE STARS
This series was recommended to me by a friend and I found it in Kindle Unlimited and started reading. Ms. Daniels pulls you into this story and you find yourself there like you are one of the characters. This is a YA fantasy story. The adventures they take you on make you feel like you are there doing this with them, sneaking out and hiding in the library, making friends and enemies alike. This second book is the kids' second year at the Academy and they are learning more about their abilities and their history.
There are currently four books out in this series:
Secrecy
Discovery
Mastery
Victory
I admit that I binge read them all in less than 72 hours. I was just so engaged and wanting to know WHAT NEXT!! I hated it when the fourth book ended and you have so many questions left in your mind.

When, this book definitely has more action hidden beneath the pages :)

This books picks up exact where I last left it, and it didn’t disappoint. No spoilers, but in this instalment we learn more about Layla, (Sabine her sister is mentioned not often, but saying that, she’s there when it counts.) We see Flynn and Layla’s continuing “friendship” and even learn a couple of things about past students...

I definitely liked this one better than the first, and thankfully there’s a book three, so I’ll be off :)

Look, I'm really enjoying this series, but ending a book on a cliffhanger (again) - aka right in the middle of the climax - is a really juvenile decision. Kids are taught the basic format of a narrative in primary school. The one that ends with a resolution. Literally the first two chapters of the next book should be the final chapters of this one. It feels like the author doesn't trust the strength of their own story, and needs a hook to get you to buy the next one. If the author doesn't believe in their own work, why should I?

On what it is to be special.

Layla is now in her second year at Olde Earth Academy.
She has come into her even date powers and what a shock it is to get as well as everyone else. Her Longma has reappeared only for threads of the Academy to use her to hunt them down.
An excellent sequel.

it was ok, the h was still annoying and had done a almost complete 180 from the last book about telling people about her powers and now wants to tell lots of people everything for some reason and its just because the H and her friends mum says not to that she doesn't. she was also kinda full of her self like oo im better then you because im a pure even if i cant show you. :\

I hate cliff hangers!

I really do. At least the free sample of the next book let me know what happened. Didn't stop me buying it either. It's all a very different take on the human / elf world and it has me hook line and sinker ...

Excellent series

This is the second book in a really different, interesting series. They all seem to end on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read more. The characters are very relatable and you cant help but root for Layla.

Fast-paced, plot-driven and character-driven storytelling, with an unfortunate cliff-hanger.

This isn't a series, it's a single book, cut into pieces short pieces. I like the story, but I'll not buy any more of these short segments.

After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story.

Beginning where the first book left off, Layla has accepted her powers and her Pure status, but her story isn’t over yet; it’s just year one that’s over. What starts as a simple summer job on campus to avoid going back to her tiny and extremely hot Texas home further expands her powers and her understanding of the range of her abilities. But the academy is still hiding secrets, and while still just a student, she stumbles upon situations that may at times seem hopeless, but Layla is not a helpless heroine; she handles herself with confidence and acts as a role model for readers. Layla herself has gone through tremendous character development since discovering her powers, making her thoughts of her past experiences with mental health no longer a worry. Like the first, this book is very well written and I really enjoyed reading about Layla’s adventures in the academy. It was a gripping and captivating read.

Excitement and danger

Layla finds out more about her family!y and wonders what will happen in her elven date. Attacks by griffins lead to working in the menagerie and Kayla finds out that she needs to hide her powers from several of the council members. What is the truth about the Olde Earth Academy? I am looking to find out more.
