Part love story and part satire, the book masterfully interweaves a fictional adventure within factual reportage, revealing in greater detail why Adolf Hitler tasked his personal hero Professor Ferdinand Porsche and his brilliant engineering mind to build the world’s fastest, almost invincible race cars and potent military machines.

The book tracks the life of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche while Hitler rises to power. Porsche and his family are pacifists, but like many industrialist families, they get caught up in Germany's "economic miracle" during the Great Depression and its aftermath. With Hitler’s patronage, Porsche becomes Germany’s heralded “Reich Designer,” creating the Volkswagen Beetle and Auto Union’s futuristic Grand Prix racing cars, which later evolved into the Audi car brand after WWII.

Along with Dr. Porsche, the central characters are the fictional Lady Beatrice Sunderland (Bea), an irreverent and naughty British aristocrat, and Lutz Becker, a dashing young Bavarian racecar driver from quite humble origins. These two madcap star-crossed opposites eventually intertwine by the time war breaks out, the attraction as inevitable as the fearsome conflict itself.

Lady Bea, a cynical, freewheeling, cold-hearted daredevil pilot who emulates feminist aviatrices Amelia Earhart, Amy Johnson, and Beryl Markham, is the daughter of Lord Briggs Sunderland, a tortured veteran of The Great War and close friend and confidant of Winston Churchill, Bea’s maternal granduncle. Bea undergoes harsh SIS training to become a British spy and is sent to Germany to gain intelligence on clandestine German rearmament. Lutz Becker, a young member of the National Socialist Motorcorps (NSKK) motorcycle division, gains Porsche’s patronage and becomes a pro auto racer in international Grand Prix competitions, Hitler and Goebbels’ prized propaganda coup.

The brazen adventures of Lady Bea and Lutz take readers through the grim scope of early wartime destruction, the insanity of Himmler’s occult-driven SS, and the secret plotting for material gain by corporate and political leaders around the world.

The Little Anton series will continue with the forthcoming sequel entitled Lion, Tiger, Bear. This mystery thriller is set amid the Desert War of 1942-3, where the hunt is on for a secret Nazi SS mining operation and aircraft base in Iraq directly linked to Germany’s multiple atomic bomb programs.

I'm an author and historian with a passion for hidden history, revisionist historical narratives, vintage cars, and the unsung heroes of WWII. All profits from my books go to wounded veteran charities.

I have been a skeptic about historical records, including textbooks, for over thirty years––a perspective that's been well-honed. My father, 5-term US Senator John W. Warner III (R-VA), was also Secretary of the Navy and Chairman of the Armed Services Committee (KBE) during the Vietnam War. My mother, Catherine Mellon, daughter of philanthropist Paul Mellon (OSS, KBE), was an activist who protested that war. She taught me to question authority, think independently, and speak my mind.

Thanks to my family and my own dogged persistence, I have been behind the scenes with some of the most powerful and influential people in US and global history.

When I'm not doing research, I'm also a true "gear head," having spent most of my adult life quenching a thirst for knowledge about race cars––first as a professional Grand Am and American Le Mans Series racing driver (a "middle of the pack man" behind the wheel of a Corvette GT1 and a Porsche GT3R), and later researching the history of the sport for my NASCAR DVD series and my Little Anton book series.

I was lucky enough to win one of the Kindle copies of this book. I have always been a fan of the Porsche and it was great to see how they got started. If you like race cars, auto racing, and the people behind it that make it happen, this will be a good read for you.

Teetering between fact and fiction, LITTLE ANTON is a trove of information and historical events we would have remembered from high school classes had we been paying attention. Then it slides off-center into the occult where believability meets intrigue. Add a sexy and daring heroine to a mix of real-life characters that include Adolph Hitler, Ferdinand Porsche, Sir Winston Churchill, Ettore Bugatti, and long-distance flying record-holder pilot Amy Johnson, and John W. Warner IV’s novel in three parts seems to have something for everyone.

Mr. Warner clearly shows a passion for detail in his research and writing. It’s also passion that powers the story — that of the characters, both real and fictional. LITTLE ANTON is a good place to get lost.

He becomes an international Grand Prix competitor & sensation.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written historical novel book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great early 19th Century era progressive car maker’s movie, or better yet a mini TV series. I’m not sure I got the whole story content so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

I was lucky enough to receive this book as a Goodreads Kindle giveaway, and it far surpassed my expectations. The author took me through quite a journey in this three-part saga, which spanned years and countries, from the early life of Ferdinand Porsche through the changing climate in Europe as World War II commenced. The author introduced fascinating details about auto engineering and the racing circuit, as well as medieval historical details of which I was unaware. As for the characters, I was immediately infatuated with Lady Bea and her relationship with Lutz, anxiously awaiting their next moves on their daring and impromptu adventures. I was also impressed with the range of languages and speech patterns among the various groups throughout the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in history, engineering and clandestine adventures.

I really wanted to like this book - but couldn't

To be honest, I did not finish this book. It was slow and dragged through minutia. Ferdinand Porsche certainly was his own person and I appreciated that perspective but it was not enough to keep me engaged.

My second challenge was in the formatting. It was quite evident that little to no preparation was done to properly format this as a Kindle book. Spend more time preparing the book for Kindle.

John Warner knows racing and he knows history. He was a pro racer for 16 years and his book reads like a Porsche: finely detailed, complex and sexy. I didn’t know the hidden history of WW2 technology and this story took me for a wild ride, with its brassy female lead Lady Bea at the wheel. If you’re looking for adventure and a fiery romance, Little Anton is your book.

I really wanted to like this book but it is too disjointed. I nearly gave up reading it multiple times in the first 200 pages. If it had stuck to the Bea/Lutz story line with just a bit of background it would have worked much better. Perhaps even 2 shorter stories- one about Porsche and one about Bea. The action scenes are very good, the dialogue okay and the rest, painful.

I have known John for a long time and so when I first heard he had written "Little Anton" I was very excited to read it - and find out about the backstory as well! I loved his take on the story/history and his writing style. This is a whole side to the story that is really unexposed.

He also has a supporting podcast called "Beyond Little Anton" that really adds another dimension to the experience! In fact, continued posting on social media on behalf of the book really adds to the experience and continues to tell the story! #immersivestorytelling
