Dear Addy

Rate this book
He said the color of her black skin had let the devil in, and she should get down on her knees and ask the Lord to please forgive her sins.

Addy only knows the countryside of Wyoming. The religious commune where she lives with her mother and sister in a log cabin at the back of her grandfather's property.
Prayer.
Penance.
And Servitude, are the cornerstone of her existence.
Until a set of unforeseen circumstances sends her fleeing from everything she has ever known into a world that is totally unlike her own--and like it always does, trouble also finds her there. In the form of the most handsome, sexy man she has ever set her eyes on. Too bad he's a Jackass with a capital J, who's accusing her of something she hasn't done, and is determined to hate her at every turn.

Ajax James is as rich and powerful as he is ruthless--and he thinks Addy is responsible for harming someone in his family. He takes her captive with the intention of torturing the truth from her innocent flesh. Yet, something in those big amber-colored eyes staring back at him stays his hand. Still, he plans on keeping her securely under his thumb until he can figure things out. What he doesn't plan on is how much she will get under his skin.

It obviously wasn't love at first sight. Instead, it was dislike at first glance. Yet, after months of being his captive, Addy began feeling something for her captor.
Something that had her breathless, yearning, and needy, despite not being able to stand the man.
And before she knew it, he had sunk his hooks so deeply into her; she had more than fallen in lust.
However, with a man like Ajax James, love is never easy--and heartbreak is guaranteed. And after he's shattered her into pieces, will he be able to put her back together again, or will it be too late?

The girl from the backwoods of Wyoming will have to stumble her way through a world that is entirely different from the one she grew up in.
While the heartless playboy discovers that, despite the walls, he's placed around his heart, she absolutely fascinates him.
And when hatred has turned into passion, and passion becomes love--
She'll have to exchange her flip-flops for Louboutins and her homemade dresses for expensive ball gowns.
Because, with a man like Ajax James on her arm, Addy will have to learn how to navigate High Society.

Hadley-May and Adler (Addy) Lee-Ann Brown are 16-year-old twin black girls that grow up within a religious and polygamous community. They are shunned and ridiculed for their black skin by all except their Aunt Taylor, the much younger sister of their mother, Elma-Louise. Their mother has her own story to tell and it will answer a lot of your questions. Hadley (the adventurous twin) has had enough of their restrictive life and sets to run off with her secret love after being told she's been promised to an elder.

She does just that and the sisters lose touch but are eventually reunited. With the reappearance of Hadley, Addy is forced outside of her comfort zone in order to help her sister. Unfortunately, Haddy had a secret life and it comes back to ferociously bite Addy, and his name is Jaxson James. Jaxson's goal is to make Haddy pay for the sins of making a fool out of The James Family and to say he hates Haddy would be an understatement. Though Addy pleads with him and tells him she's not Hadley, he refuses to believe her or listen to her. It gets tricky here because he encroaches upon his comatose brother's wife, even though he believes her to be Hadley. When he most definitely finds out she's not Haddy, he neglects to clue her in, thus making her think that he still hates her.

There are multiple story lines within this story and some of them felt unnecessary. This book made me cry a little, and laugh a lot. Addy's newfound bosom buddy Carson is a riot who can't hold water and he is pure comic relief. Eventually, Addy's friendship with Carson expands to include his best friend, Sameera and Addy's long-lost cousin, Chanel.

This is a stand-alone story but Jax has two other brothers, Kain and Judas. There were inklings that Kain and Sameera might be paired, and a brief scene that seemed to promise the pairing of Chanel and Judas. The pairing of Chanel and Judas intrigues me the most given both of their backstories and I want to see how their story plays out. Fingers crossed that they get a story.

Recommended: Read It!

This was my first read by this author and it was highly recommended by some of my reader friends. The storyline is quite unique and unlike any I've ever read so that's a plus. However, I must say that though the synopsis prepared me for a slow beginning, I didn't realize that would encompass 22% of the book. That was the turning point as the plot picked up after Adler Brown's environment changed. Her 'growing pains' was like none I'd ever read about and though it was needed to set the story, I truly felt it could have been more condensed so the storyline wouldn't have dragged. I didn't need to read about years and years in Wyoming to understand what the Brown sisters faced.

After the story picked up, I must say I throughly enjoyed reading about Addy's plight and the situations she found herself in. That Ajax James was a true alpha but a bit of a brute at times which I didn't like much. Their chemistry was paplable and their coupling steamy for sure! However, some of the things Addy experienced with Jax and in her new world wasn't that plausible considering where she lived growing up. Like if her life was such a polar opposite, you really expect me to believe her first experiences in the world had little affect on such naivete?

There were also many side characters that kept me entertained and they all came with a side plot that blended into Ajax and Addy's, but at times, it just overshadowed the main plot for me. I felt that every side problem was wrapped up extensively and I just lost my focal point which should have been Jax and Addy.

Additionally, the end was rushed considering the very slow build in the beginning. I didn't get to see much of how Addy handled a great occurance in her life and it's like the main issue was solved in just 2 pages when the minor characters took up so much space in the storyline: how sway?

I gave this a solid 3 because I really did enjoy the story itself, but it just fell flat for me in certain aspects that I mentioned. If you're looking for a unique story, I do suggest you give this a try. It's really a story you have never heard before. Who knows, it may just be a better read for you than it was for me...reading being subjective and all. 😉

This book was everything to me! From the very beginning I was drawn in by the story line. Adler, Hadley, and their mom dealt with one hell of a life on that compound! The twist that came was so interesting and intriguing. Jax was a complete asshole, but even assholes get humbled by something....or should I say someone. I loved Carson and his whole love triangle. When families have money and status their power and reputation mean everything, but behind closed doors there's a whole lot of shit going on!

Very Interesting.... Different and good!

This was a very interesting story, yet different and good.
Hadley and Adler, identical twins and everything else was dealt such a bad hand all their lives until they met two wonderful man and everything changed.
Hadley was the go getter and the act now then think later and Adler was more think first and act later. Both strong, intelligent and eautiful, but were being mistreated by their grandfather because of their skin color.
Ajax James, wow, what a man. Definitely bae and more. Strong, boss man, alpha he was the epitome of sexy with a side of thug all wrapped up together.
Jude James was just you boy next door, with him being the gentleness man that you would have been able to meet. A gentle soul and beautiful attitude.
I loved how Addy became this strong fierce woman after everything she endured. Sammy and Carson, man hate the fact that they truly couldn't be together. Chanel was different than Addy and I will be glad to see the match of her and Jude. Kain definitely needed to step up and go get Sammy.
All in all it was very good book, story line and ending. Beautiful story..

Interesting story

I enjoyed the book and how different it was. This was story was nowhere near what I expected. It was like a lifetime move met urban fiction. I loved watching this story play out but I must admit that Jax was not a favorite character of mine. I understood where his anger initially came from but something about him rubbed me the wrong way. I loved how Addy's character grew over time and how she became more like Hadley. I loved the various types of characters in this story like Carson and Nel. Loved Kain's character. This was my first book by the author in a very long time but I really did like escaping into their world.

Great read

I will always be a fan of a good standalone. This was a far cry from the usual urban romance and the urban fiction. The humble yet oppressive beginnings of Hadley and Addy set the bleak despairing tone. Then the rich but equally foreboding past of Ajax and his brothers collide with Addy to form the perfect storm. It shows that evil transcends race and class. I cared deeply about these characters and enjoyed seeing them progress to happiness for some and freedom for others.

Wow!🌟

Ms. Lowe has proven once again why she’s top notch, and boy have I missed her work. This book took me on a ride, and I enjoyed every bit of it. It was something different and refreshing actually, you will not be disappointed. Definitely worth it! Though this was a standalone which is my favorite kind of stories (impatient) I think we need one more standalone with the brothers and friends.

Love in a hopeless place

Well written, at first it was panning me to read because I hated the grandfather but by 15% everything sped up. Every detail I imagined, every sex scene I visioned, every beaten I felt. And lastly , every ounce of love I yearned. Addy and Jax were it for me loved them!!!! This book was filled with heartache and happiness. This was a true tale story of falling in love unexpectedly. I want love like Addy and Jax!

What a story!

This story covered a lot...but in a heart wrenching way but it evolved into a very heart warming story. I was captivated by Jax and his attraction to Addy. There were parts that threw me completely off like the grandmother and extra family being reunited and the drama with them seems unnecessary. It didn’t add to the story at all. Other than that, the story was well written and good. I really want to see what Kain’s story will be.

Always great to find a new author

Jax was the man but was so very complex. I was so ecstatic when Addie found happiness because she had experienced a life full of negativity and pain. I know this was a stand-alone book but I would love to get more about the characters that are featured in this work. I am definitely going to recommend this book to all of my fellow readers oh, you definitely give this Arthur a try.

Great read!

This book was truly interesting and I can see it as a lifetime movie. Although it was kind of long, it flowed so smoothly that I actually didn’t mind the length. I was horrified at the beatings that Haley and Adley received from their racist grandfather and the way that he treated them. Jax and Adley’s relationship started out in the most unconventional way, but their story was a true love story. Again, I must say that I really loved this book.

Love the book.

This book was so good. It was different and refreshing. It had some sad parts but mostly good. Carry Lowe had always been one of my favorite authors and she didn’t disappoint me in this book. I know its a stand-alone but if she was to write a book about the other two brothers I would read them.

Wow the rich and deadly

I started this book and was so taken by the characters I couldn’t put it down. This story is sad, scary, and heartfelt. Jax and Addy are proof of what is destined for you will be yours. The trial and tribulations are so unrealistic but could very well be true. This is read like none other.

This book was very different. The beginning was a little slow, but it became very interesting. I like that it wasn’t your usual storyline. The main character Abby lives in a polygamist commune. It’s her plight of growing up in that type of community and what happens when she finally leaves. Great book. Wouldn’t mind reading a spin off.

Wow Carry Lowe!

So the beginning was amazing. I was speechless at how well developed the story line and characters were. I couldn’t put the book down. Towards the middle it was just as good until the end. Although the book was good, the end felt rushed. The crazy part is I would have read another 12 chapters. I wanted more from Kain and Jude.

A powerful story 4.8 stars!

It took a minute to get into this story. There was so much anger and degradation flowing at the start. Jax was a real SOB, and yet I understood him. Addy was what he needed to be a better man. Wow!
