The party’s not over ‘til you smile for the mugshot. Gray Whaley has returned to Pure and Easy, the scene of childhood horror, and the safety of his old friends, The Bare Bones MC. He’s fed up with the trivial, superficial LA scene where he emceed a reality show and modeled for perverts. He wants to get back to basics. When a Bare Boner is arrested by the FBI for an old murder, Gray falls in with Elektra Spinoza, the hot, dark forensic geneticist who made it all happen with her infallible DNA science. Gray is smitten, and determines to help Elektra track down the killer of her daughter a decade ago. With the assistance of half-breed shepherd Galileo Taliwood, Mexican drug mule Tiago, and a team of hotshot “hacktivists” headed by Tobiah Weingarten, Gray and Elektra plunge toward their destiny with the unknown. A church pastor is using kids as drug runners, then sending them out into the desert with moonshine to die. Every step closer to the sick child killer dredges up youthful nightmares for Gray, but he’s determined to power through it for the love of the sexy scientist and vengeance for abused children. As for Elektra, well, she’s just not going to rest until the culprit smiles for the mugshot. Publisher’s Note: This is Book #9 in the Bare Bones MC series. This book is a standalone and can be read out of order, but the series is best read in order to gain the full experience. This is not your mother’s contemporary romance. Daring readers will encounter violence, gun play, a backstory involving underage porn, human smuggling, and child murder. It is not for the faint of heart. It’s a full-length novel of 67,000 words with no cliffhanger and HEAs all around for all. Mature content and possible triggers.

What dark secrets is in Grey’s past that will affect his view on what’s about to happen in their town??? There is a trigger for some and I just want to say that there topics and a scene of child pedophile
I absolutely loved this book. Elektra was so focused on what she needed to prove and Gray was just trying to help Elektra, but to also join the BareBones MC and prove himself worthy of it all.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left an honest review.

Kinky with a side of wit, MAKING HIS BONES the newest MC romance by Layla Wolfe does one heck of a job, telling the most compelling story as well as shining a bright light on the evil of human trafficking and the sexual slavery. Other authors have taken on the subject, shedding light on the underbelly of society – those who profit on the exploitation of others. However, author Layla Wolfe has not only put a light on the darkest of evils but does so in a way that also poses realistic options to find, fight, and overcome that evil. And does so in a way that both challenges and entertains her readers. While I volunteered to read an early copy of MAKING HIS BONES, I will be looking for more titles by this author in the future. The main characters, Elektra and Bones share an ameeazing chemistry and strengthen each other over the course of events. I couldn’t put MAKING HIS BONES down until I knew everything, and now I am going to go back to read this one again! Get your copy of MAKING HIS BONES today! Happy pages! 😉
Gray and Elektra's story held me captive from the beginning. Full of action, suspense and the developing chemistry between Gray and Elektra was hot, and when they finally totally connected, my kindle was smoking! For me Elektra was my favorite, watching her bloom into one hell of a kick-ass woman! Awesome she got to find her daughter's killer. Loved catching up with the Bare Bones brothers! Another winner for Layla Wolfe!

Layla Wolfe’s Making His Bones: A Motorcycle Club Romance (The Bare Bones MC Book 9) is about Gray Whaley and Elektra Spinoza. It’s gritty, with violence, gun play, underage porn, human smuggling, and child murder. It is not for the faint of heart. I definitely recommend this book and author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced readers copy💋
Layla Wolfe has once again written an awesome MC story. Gray and Elektra are phenomenal together. This story gives you the feels. It's full of action, danger, and and emotional angst. Truly an awesome read.
Oh wow the book wont disappoint you. It will pull you into the it on the first page. It will intrigue you with all of the action drama and romance. Loved how he wants to do right by her
While I love MC reads, "Making His Bones" was a difficult read for me to get into. I put the book down several times, going back later and hoping it would start to make a bit more sense to me. It was a bit all over the place, and I was not sure if this was because it is my first read in the series, but somehow, I don't think it was. Like another reviewer, I picked this one up as an ARC quite a while back. I kept going back to it, as I do not like to leave a book unread. That being said, I did finish it and now must leave my review. **Thanks to Booksprout for gifting me "Making His Bones"** My review is my own based on my reading. 2 stars...That being said, I will try another book by Layla Wolfe.
Having read the sixth in the Bare Bones MC series, I was familiar with some of the characters and the way the club operates. Prospect Gray, a LA film "star" recently relocated to Pure and Easy in his brother's footsteps, meets Elektra, a DNA forensics specialist when her analysis results in solving a 15 yo murder. Instead of returning to Illinois, she pursues resolution of the cold case of her daughter's death. Nefarious denizens of Seeker run into the MC's brand of justice as a romance blossoms. Wolfe continues to paint the beauty of the Arizona high desert as she richly fills ot the bikers, their women, and the villains in a highly enjoyable romp.
Making his Bones, book nine in The Bare Bones MC, follows Elektra Spinoza and Gray Whaley. Gray grew up with Ford and Madison, so when he decides to head home his first stop is to visit his “brother”. Elektra is an FBI agent who arrests one of the Bare Bones MC members for the murder of her daughter, Gray begins to help Elektra rescue sick and abused children, while working with her to help find the real killer, but what they discover will lead Gray down a path of painful memories and nightmares from his youth.
Good plot, could not help but get the feel that this sounded slightly gay. Did not have leave me wanting more after reading the very first page, as it i felt like it was not an easy start or one that had me begging for more. Had me more confused for some reason. Some times i get that way about books and this is one of them.
I received this book for Free to Give My True Personal Review
It took me longer to read as it was book 7 inside a series so I got & read the Boxset The Bare Bones MC as I started reading it first and it confused me dust off and that's why I had to read the other books prior. Yes it's another book of deep hot 🔥 🥵 in every which way really great story
I love the characters, strange behaviors and situations, abound. Grey gets the girl, girl finds an amazing new life, crimes get solved, and a new family!y is created. Her storyline is packed with more info than imagining.
I loved reading this book. The characters were very good. The plot has ups and downs and ins and outs and will keep you turning the pages until the very end.
For adults only (18+ years old). Contains subject matter that may be offensive or a trigger for some, including adult language, semi-detailed intimate scenes and violence (kidnapping, child pornography /molestation, assault, death and murder)
This story has a dark side with Gray's past and Elektra's daughter. While it is a complete storyline, in an of, itself, I would not consider it to be a standalone, as there is an overall arc throughout the series that would be lost if not read in order.I
I have this a higher rating because of the overall storyline, but there were a few areas that I had to stop and re-read and they still didn't make any sense. It could be because of the lingo the author includes to make it seem more authentic. I didn't give it 5 stars because I felt the background of Gray especially wasn't dealt with enough. Sorry can't include more details without potentially listing a spoiler.
If you like raw, gritty and dark MC romances, then I highly recommend this series
Making His Bones by author Layla Wolfe is the ninth book in the Bare Bones MC world. I have not read the series in order. I was not lost reading this book. Though I am going to go back and read what I missed. I loved this story and the characters all very gritty and real. Very well done I just want so much more. This book is written in dual pov, which if you read my reviews you know is my favorite. It allows me into both character’s minds and feelings. Elektra, she is a scientist first, woman second. She wants justice done the right way. She can find trouble faster than anyone else. She is has been through a living hell and comes back out the other side stronger. Gray, he is taking over the archery range for the club. He was an actor and model as a teen. Now he is a tough biker with a huge heart. He was burnt out with his life and is now starting over. He and Elektra have a chemistry you feel right from the start. This story is faced paced, gritty in places, and electrifyingly hot in others. There are subjects touched on that readers might fight triggering, human trafficking, sexual slavery, to name the two biggest. They are explicit but they are in this book. I found the emotional ties in this book to be why I kept reading. I just couldn’t get enough. I want more in the future as well. When you want a well written, well thought out, gritty love story, I highly suggest picking this one up.
Hilarious, steamy MC romance of older woman and younger man with mystery Elektra Spinoza is a forensic geneticist for a private company dedicated to bringing criminals to justice through her DNA knowledge and skills. At present she’s working with the FBI to capture a wife killer who is also a member of The Bare Bones MC. After cementing this man’s arrest, she decides to take some time off to investigate a local cold case in which her young daughter was heinously killed. The now-arrested MC member ran a business and his replacement is this buff and OTT handsome former reality show star, Gray Whaley. (Love the name.) He’s 10 years younger than Elektra but is very interested. In his attempt to get closer to her, he offers to help in her quest to find the killer of her daughter. This is the beginning of one of the most hilarious thrillers I’ve ever read. The dialogue is literally laugh-out-loud funny, the intrigue is thrilling and the bad guys disgusting. What more could you want? The company names in this book are hysterically funny: The Missing Ink, Doggie Style Grooming, Vinyl Resting Place and even their name The Boners! There are more but I’ll let you discover those when you read this book which comes highly recommended for lovers of comedic characters, twisty plots and steamy scenes. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book. I give it 4.5 Stars !
You will never be disappointed when you read one of Ms. Wolfes Bare Bones stories. Her characters are rough, rude, tough , gritty and everything you would think to find in an MC, however, they are also likeable, real and easy to relate too. The story line focuses on an individual couple and their somewhat intense courtship but doesn't loose sight that this is not a flowers and candy atmosphere. Gray and Elektra are an interesting pair, the nerd and the actor, both running from things they can't change but hoping to find peace and a place to call home. I love the diverse types of characters Ms. Wolfe has in her stories, sometimes the most unlikely people pair up but they are always a good fit. The storyline is intense, there is a crime to solve that even the bones find offensive even if they don't quite trust Elektra. Fast paced, easy to follow, quite a few twists and turns and a plot to keep you on the edge of your seat. Looking forward to the next adventure.
Gray and Elektra are on a mission to find out who killed her daughter years ago. Gray was a prospect for the Bare Bones MC and Elektra was a DNA expert who worked hand in hand with law enforcement so this was an unlikely couple. But then again who wouldn't help a woman find her child's killer.
There was so much going on in town with a very sketchy preacher whose family was connected with everything from kiddie porn to making moonshine to leaving young boys who were being used as mules in the desert to die. The MC didn't stand for this so they helped Gray and Elektra to get to the bottom of everything.
Follow their relationship from the beginning with the older woman who helped the law bring criminals to justice and the handsome biker with a secret past of his own that could possibly help her out.
This is another great suspense story in this wonderful series Here we handle lost children and what happens to them
Elektra Spinoza is a forensic geneticist and her speciality he linking people to crimes through DNA she has recently worked on bringing a murderer in a member of The Bare Bones MC but she has history in this area years earlier her daughter was killed in this area. Gray Whaley is reality TV star who has returned to his roots and joined the MC he is instantly attracted to Elektra even though he is younger than her in an attempt to get closer to her he offers to help her try to solve her daughters murder but will his dark past also come to light You will have to read to see if these two have a future together
This is surely a motley crew of characters. In full disclosure this is my first encounter with this series. I was a bit concerned when she suggested that it might be better to read the previous books in the series. I found that I was able to enjoy the story and follow along without having done that which is great. Elektra, like her name, is a striking character. I love that she is a mature women who owns her sexuality and her pathway in life. Gray has had a hard life but has not let it define him or make him shy away from love. These two, along with the most unusual MC I have ever encountered, dive into solving a cold case and shutting down the evil doings of this small time. The characters are wacky and lovable. Filled with lots of crazy action and steamy goodness.
This is another great addition to the Bare Bones MC series. Gray and Elektra find chemistry even though they are from two completely different worlds and she is the "enemy" of the Bare Bones at the moment. As she and Gray grow closer and and they help each other along the way, she comes to accept his way of life and the Bare Bones comes to accept hers. It is a great book that tells a great story and will even teach you a little about DNA testing along the way! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
