‘deadly mind games with a killer’

A series of arsons with a distinctive signature, happening on DCI Ted Darling’s patch. The logical prime suspect has the best alibi of all. Yet he seems intent on entering into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Ted.

Is there any connection between the fires and the body parts being discovered in random locations? They’re identified as belonging to a man badly burned in a firework incident. Someone who was tortured before death and mutilated after it.

Ted has a plan to get the result he so desperately needs. But is he prepared to compromise his principles to bring it off?

A psychological thriller which sees Ted and his team tested to their limits.

But will they succeed?

Retired journalist, freelance copywriter and copy editor Lesley Tither writes under various pen names for different genres. Already well known for travel memoirs as Tottie Limejuice, Lesley also writes crime fiction under the name L. M. Krier. Her first children's fiction book, adventure/crime, The Dog with the Golden Eyes, is published under under the pen-name L M Kay.

Writing as L M Krier, Lesley has published twenty-two crime fiction books in the popular Ted Darling Crime Series: The First Time Ever, Baby's Got Blue Eyes, Two Little Boys, When I'm Old and Grey, Shut Up and Drive, Only the Lonely, Wild Thing, Walk on By, Preacher Man, Cry for the Bad Man, Every Game You Play, Where the Girls Are, Down Down Down, The Cuckoo is a Pretty Bird, Dirty Old Town, The End of the Line, It’s Oh So Quiet, A Woman’s Heart, No Way to Say Goodbye
Everybody Hurts Sometime, Sweet Little Lies, Not To Tell.

'Sell the Pig' is the first in a series of travel memoirs describing how Lesley, writing as Tottie Limejuice, decided to make the move from the UK to France to start a new life, taking with her an 89-year-old mother suffering from vascular dementia. The story continues in three further books, 'Is That Billinge Lump?' 'Mother, Was It Worth It?' 'Biff the Useless Mention', and 'Angling Bumateurs'. There's an additional standalone prequel to the series, Trot On!, about her time running a holiday riding centre in Wales, before her move to France.

Lesley is also the not-so-secret writer behind the pen-name of Carl Granger. The book Looking for Lulu is darker crime fiction.

Lesley is a former journalist, working as both a criminal court and coroner's court reporter. She also worked as a case tracker for the Crown Prosecution Service, and for a firm investigating irregularities in offshore finance. Her other jobs have included owning and running a holiday riding centre and acting as a 'charity mugger', lying in wait to sign up shoppers for a wildlife charity.

Lesley's interests centre around nature and wildlife and encompass dogs, wild camping and organic gardening. She lives in the Auvergne region of Central France and holds dual French/British nationality. Her current dogs are two rescued border collies

Gotcha!

Each book in this fabulous series just keeps getting better and better.
DCI Ted Darling and his team have a very grisly murder on their patch along with a mysterious arsonist.
There is a blast from Trev's past, as well as a close call for Ted.
As usual, brilliantly written and researched by my favourite crime writer L M Krier.

I really liked how the author gives us early access to the mind workings of the bad guy - it kept me guessing as to how Ted and his (ever changing) intrepid policing team would get clued onto his nefarious machinations. I also appreciate the gore (from the body parts being progressively discovered) being kept low key. The reappearance of someone from Trev's past/family was also an unexpected surprise!

Superb read. Ted and Trev are genuine believable characters. So nice to have a gay married couple portrayed as perfectly normal (which of course they are) rather than the usual stereotypes. The team feels like a real police team. The author's attention to detail is exceptional. Ted is fallible too which makes all the more lovable. This is a cracking series of books and the quality has not diminished over time. The fourteenth is eagerly awaited

Every bit as good as the previous books

This is every bit as good as all the previous books in the series. I loved the fact that the team were dealing with two unconnected crimes which adds a hint of realism not often found in crime fiction. Naturally Ted's team copes brilliantly, albeit with the aid of extra team members drafted in to help out. There are some good relationships developing between some of these new characters which makes me wonder if they will make a return at some point.

I also enjoyed the further developments of the existing characters and the integration of the administrative follow up of previous cases. It all adds to the integrity of the series.

That there is groundwork already laid for future plot lines is a bonus and I look forward to seeing how this is developed. I am already eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

There's a bit more drama in the book's description than in the actual story (that seems to be a theme for my recent reads). I would have liked a bit more interaction between Ted and the suspect - he's an interesting mind, but most of it plays out in scenes to which the police aren't privy. There is also a rather large plot hole in the priest's conviction of the suspect's innocence, seeing as his actions would seem to prove the reverse.

The other case involved has a bit more play, and also features some rather fascinating suspects (including the guy whose parts are turning up all over town).

I thought the author could have gone a bit further with some of the things going on between Ted and Trevor - that sort of got lost in the plot, and the author missed some opportunities there. (I think I'm being rather cryptic, but always trying to avoid spoiling.)

Another great book from LM Krier. I’m a big fan of the Ted Darling series and this is another page turner. There are several plot strands going on, it appears an arsonist is at work, also there are mutilated body parts being found on Ted’s patch. To top it all he and his partner Trev are the victims of an online threat from a shadowy ‘journalist’. The tension builds from the start of the book and continues to the end. Very cleverly Ted and the team doggedly pursue the cases. I like the way new characters are introduced and relationships with the team develop. There’s a little hook to keep me looking forward to the next book.

Unputdownable Crime Thriller!

Well written police procedural with twists and turns that keep the reader turning the pages. The characters are believable and relatable, and I like that new characters are introduced while old familiar ones reappear. Lesley is also excellent at leaving little nuggets or gems to keep the reader chomping at the bit for the next book!
I discovered the DCI Ted Darling books through Kindle recommendations and I have been hooked ever since. If you enjoy crime/police books, then I thoroughly recommend reading these, you will not be disappointed!!!

I love this writer and the people in it.

I always read the end of a thriller and then work my way back. Screwy, I know but most are are not as talented as Mr. Krier. I love the people in them, too. I feel I'd be disappointing Yes and company as well as the author. Oh yes. And me too.

Billerant as ever

The Ted Darling series of books never fail as a billerant (a standing joke of LM Kriers fanbase) read. You are drawn in to this family like team of detectives as though you were part of that team. Cant wait for Ted 14 Lesley.

Dreary

I was so excited to see another release in the Red Darling series but it was woeful.
Just a rehash of what has been written before, I didn't get past the first quarter of the book.
Sorry but DCI Darling needs to retire

I so enjoy reading these books. How the author keeps coming along with great stories is amazing and after meeting her recently in Stockport makes it even more enjoyable. Looking forward to the next one which I understand it well on the way.
