Werewolf SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks has yet to meet The One—but when he rescues teacher Selena Rosa from a hostage situation at her high school, he knows he’s in trouble. Her scent is irresistible.

There’s a reason for that powerful scent—and it isn’t an expensive perfume. Thanks to the traumatizing events at the school, the werewolf gene flipped on and Selena’s going through the change. Even scarier, she’s on track to become an omega—an out-of-control and violent breed. It’s going to take everything Brooks has if he wants any chance to pull her back from the edge…and ultimately win her heart.

In Wolf Rising , Paige Tyler brings romance, action, and memorable characters to the eighth book in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team paranormal romantic suspense series. Set in contemporary times and mainly in Dallas, Texas, this novel features SWAT werewolf Jayden Brooks and high school teacher Selena Rosa.

When Jayden rescues Selena from a hostage situation, he realizes he’s likely met his soul mate. Selena finds him irresistible as well and even bites him. Selena doesn’t understand her loss of control and aggression. Can Jayden win her heart help her regain control of her actions and emotions?

Once again Jayden and Selena seem to be well-matched. Jayden is strong, humble, pragmatic, practical, and funny. Selena loves to cook, is sincere, and does everything she can to keep her students in school and out of the local gangs.

As usual, the story starts with a prologue that shows the trigger for Jayden’s change into a werewolf. After that, the book picks up three weeks after the previous one in the series.
The plot had some twists and turns with high stakes and some surprises. There are some unpredictable moments in the story and the various conflicts and action moved the story forward rapidly. The world-building is excellent with a unique take on how werewolves originate. There’s also some new information about the types of werewolves in this one. It is a riveting story with protagonists that I liked and cheered on in their efforts for survival and justice.

This book delivers on escapism through instant attraction, friendship, family, found family, romance, trust, as well as protecting and helping others. At the same time, it tackles the serious issues of murder, drugs, gangs, secrets, and much more. There are a couple of steamy scenes.

Overall, this is a briskly paced and suspenseful novel that’s full of danger, action, and a sense of urgency. If you enjoy thrilling paranormal romantic suspense novels, then I recommend you check out this series. There is enough background that this novel can be read as a standalone, but the series is best read in order. I always enjoy catching up with old friends from previous novels.

I purchased a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date was October 30, 2018.

Wolf Rising by Paige Tyler

Jayden Brooks, SWAT team member and wolf shifter.
Selena Rosa, high school teacher.
Mission: stop the spreading of drugs from the gangs. Keep the gangs away from the high school students.
Paranormal romantic suspense. 8th in the Special Wolf Alpha Team series.

Loved Selena. Strong of heart, protective of her students. Some of her comments, of her character, were hilarious.
“Holy cheese and crackers”
“I look like I’ve been in a fight with a rabid mongoose.”

Fantastic addition to the series.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to keep.

I absolutely love this series and this book was no exception!

Paige Tyler has two amazing series running together, this one and X-Ops and I fricken love both of them.

SWAT is my favourite of the two simply because I began reading this one first... when I ran out of books and hit the waiting list, I decided to read X-Ops, I wasn't disappointed.

SWAT is amazing, I love the sexy werewolves but I love how the story has developed and is taking a turn... things are happening quickly now and I am eager to see how this goes!

Strong romantic suspense! Boy did that alpha know how to give his girl exactly what she needed to face life altering circumstances, which made this read even more sweet and endearing. Wolf Rising seemed to carry multiple plot directions creating a transitioning storyline but Tyler still hooked us into her tale, the couple and the suspense to come.

I received this ARC copy of Wolf Rising from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca. This is my honest and voluntary review. Wolf Rising is set for publication October 30, 2018.

I liked this one, a big part of that was due to Selena. I loved that in the middle of an area with strong gangs Selena stood strong against them, how she fought for her students to stay out of them, only giving up when they were a lost cause, firmly entrenched in the gangs. That all made the opening of the book at school in Selena's classroom all the more crazy. Selena wasn't about to give up on one of her special kids. The drama brought Selena into contact with Jayden. Their "meeting" was one for the records.

It was interesting how Jayden started to suspect things about Selena, more interesting how Selena reacted to what was going on and being clued in. I was glad that it didn't take too long before Selena calmed down and listened to Jayden, helping her cope with changes in her life.

There was a lot of action at the end. Some of it was easy to guess, who was being the energy drinks, others blindsided me, like who was helping the hunters. The SWAT guys seem to have a better handle on things, hopefully they can finally put the hunters and their issues to rest soon.

SWAT – Sexy, Wonderful, Awesome, Terrific – that is what else the letters for SWAT can be in regards to the newest mission for these werewolves. Jayden’s in trouble when he catches the most irresistible scent of the high school teacher he rescues and Selena’s werewolf gene has flipped on in the wake of the traumatic experience. Together these two strong, dynamic characters have a sizzling chemistry that not only electrifies the pages but the readers as well while they take on all the turmoil and changes that they find themselves in. This relationship is scorching hot and quite sweet and readers easily become enamored with Jayden and Selena and want to know every last detail of their story.

Twist and turns, sweet romance and life altering changes can be found throughout this fast paced plot with lots of explosive excitement and thrilling suspense that keeps readers on the edge of their seat as hunters stalk the werewolves, a wedding turns deadly and cops betray their own. This series just keeps getting better and better and I find that I want to read it over and over and over again because I can’t get enough of all the sexy werewolves, wonderful romance, awesome twists and terrific plots that the author keeps creating in her fascinating world that has its own werewolf SWAT team which really just can’t get any sexier than it already is and did I mention HAWT!

Wolf Rising is the latest book in Paige Tyler’s SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) Series. I have read them all and I have yet to be disappointed. Paige Tyler’s spin on werewolf lore has continued to be intriguing and surprising. She takes the age old stories about werewolves that we have grown up with and turns them on their heads. As with all of the other books, this story is about “The One”. It’s about a werewolf finding the one person on earth that they are truly meant to spend the rest of their lives with and all the chaos that ensues as they try to figure things out.

In this installment, Dallas SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks finds “The One” in school teacher Selena Rosa as he saves her from a gang member that his holding her and her students hostage. The crazy thing is that Selena who knows nothing about werewolves is also becoming one. Generally, it takes a few weeks for a traumatic event to transform someone with the werewolf gene into a full on werewolf but abnormal circumstances have sped up the process and made it a little difficult for Jayden to find a subtle way to explain things to Selena. To add insult to injury, Selena is becoming extremely aggressive. Add in some highly explosive sexual energy and everything goes haywire.

Initially, I suspected that after several books the author would have a hard time keeping me interested but that hasn’t happened. There is plenty of action as werewolf hunters from the prior books continue to pursue them and they also figure out who the inside man is. Consequently, it’s best that you read the other books if you really want to have the whole experience and participate in the overarching storyline that is the cornerstone of the series. There is plenty of action to keep you turning the pages. Everything flows nicely and I was compelled to keep reading. It was hard to put the book down. Jayden and Selena are good together and it’s entertaining to watch their relationship blossom so swiftly. They were truly meant to be. I am confident that the next book will be just as good and I look forward to reading it.

Most series would have lost my interest by now but not the SWAT series by Paige Tyler! She’s back with an all new book in the super hot, super intense series about a group of alpha werewolves working as a SWAT unit in Dallas. The series has expanded since the first book and now includes beta wolves, omega wolves, and more. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the direction this series is heading.

Taking the lead this time is werewolf Jayden Brooks, a character longtime fans (like me) are familiar with. He essentially rescues teacher Selena Rosa from a hostage situation involving one of her former students when he realizes she’s The One. Basically, it means she’s the one fated to be his lifetime love and partner. But of course, things get complicated real fast because that hostage situation just triggered Selena’s werewolf gene and she’s going through the change. Worse, she’s showing signs of becoming an omega wolf, the most out of control and violent breed Brooks has come across.

Wolf Rising takes on a more urgent tone than its predecessors because the werewolf hunters introduced a few books back are getting more and more aggressive in their quest to eradicate Brooks and his fellow wolves. There’s a lot of tension present throughout the whole story and the hunters serve as a conflict that is going to take not just all of the SWAT team, but all the allies they’ve managed to make along the way. It’s a two steps forward, three steps back kind of game that has me coming back to this series as eager as I was when I picked up the first book a few years ago.

As bad as the hunters are, they don’t take away the spotlight from Brooks and Selena. Their romance is complicated but it’s a solid one, and yes it is a case of near instantaneous love for them, but because Wolf Rising is a paranormal romantic suspense it works really well. Brooks is total boyfriend material and Selena is a tough as nails woman more than capable of learning to control her aggressive wolf side which was a conflict all its own. In this book, readers learn more about the omega wolves that up until now were thought to be irredeemable and dangerous. I really love how Tyler has managed to keep the series fresh by weaving more strands into a world she’s already established without overcomplicating things or confusing readers. She doesn’t overdo it when she’s rehashing previous events to catch new readers up, and she makes sure that longtime readers get fresh, new material.

One of the constant things I really enjoy about Wolf Rising and the books before it is the relationship and work dynamic between the SWAT team. They’re not a group of wolves following an alpha, they’re ALL alpha wolves. They just don’t have the controlling d-bag tendencies that seem to be popular in other sub-genres of romance. These wolves are big, bad, and dangerous but they also have the ability to crack readers up with their sometimes childish teasing of each other. Brooks gets teased by his fellow alphas but he knows that they are the ones he can count on to watch his back. After they’ve made fun of him of course. I love those guys. Every single one of them.

Overall, Wolf Rising is a stand out addition to the SWAT series with the edge-of-your-seat suspense, red-hot romance, and a cast of werewolves that you can’t help but fall in love with. I can’t wait for the next book.

This is book 8 in the series, and though it would probably be ideal to start at the beginning to pick up on the worldbuilding I suspect was done earlier in the series, it wouldn’t matter too much if you started here. All the minor characters are sketched in well enough for you to get an idea of who they are, and the two protagonists are thoroughly fleshed out with plenty of meaty backstory to get your teeth into.

Jayden Brooks is one of Dallas’ all-werewolf SWAT team. Once you accept the existence of an all-werewolf SWAT team and the fact that anyone with a particular recessive gene can become a werewolf if exposed to a traumatic enough event, you’re pretty much home and hosed as far as suspension of disbelief goes. Physically, Brooks is one of the biggest on the team, six and a half feet of muscle, a handsome black man who occasionally reads almost too good to be true. He cooks, he cleans, he can dance, he loves puppies. It’s no surprise the heroine, Selena Rosa, a beautiful Latinx teacher he rescues from a hostage situation, has a hard time believing he’s single.

Werewolves, however, get fated mates in this universe. They call it The One, and it’s not exactly clear here what makes one were The One for any other, apart from an overwhelming physical attraction.

Selena’s a teacher at a school in an area with serious gang problems, and she spends most of her free time as well as her working hours trying to give her students a reason to stay out of gang troubles. While she’s fighting these battles and dealing with transforming into a werewolf, Brooks has a different problem - a team of hunters out to kill any werewolf they can find.

There are some pretty spectacular confrontations in the book, and one thing I really liked was that Selena was never held back from the action. In fact, her choices led to major breakthroughs on cases Brooks had to deal with. There were really hot sex scenes between the two as well, though being werewolves things did get a bit rough (read; claws and teeth make things messy).

All in all I really enjoyed this, even though starting here in the series meant I had to take some worldbuilding things on faith. There were a few obvious Easter Eggs planted for later books in the series (the cat called Kat who isn’t afraid of werewolves, for example) but I’d definitely be happy to read any more of the SWAT werewolf books! Five stars for an excellent paranormal romance!

In this episode of the SWAT series, Officer Jayden Brooks finds The One when he rescues a teacher from a gangbanger who has entered her classroom to recruit one of her students for the gang. Selena Rosa has grown up around gangs. They cost her her parents and older brother. There is no way she's going to let them claim one of her students.

Selena has some weird effects after she's rescued. Her blood pressure is soaring as is her heartbeat. She's running a fever. However, she also feels the best she's ever felt in her life. After she gets out of the hospital, she wants to find Jayden and thank him.

Jayden is intrigued by Selena but couldn't immediately follow up because the SWAT team is busy with a police chief who is interested in photo ops that will help his campaign for mayor, a gang of hunters who has come to town and threatened a number of members of the team, a new gang leader who is consolidating all the local gangs, and a new drug in energy drinks that is causing users to OD.

What Selena doesn't know, and what Jayden doesn't know how to tell her, is that the trauma related to her classroom invasion has triggered her genetic change to werewolf. What neither understands is why the change is happening so fast. It usually takes two or three weeks before changes are visible. Selena's is taking only three days.

Selena and Jayden's romance is a whirlwind. There immediate attraction leads to lots of spicy love scenes. But their romance is almost derailed by Selena's changing since she is confused and panicking about what is happening to her.

Their romance deepens as the multiple story lines converge. This was a fast-paced, sexy romantic suspense novel that will be devoured by those who have been reading the series. New readers can pop in here too because, while some background would be nice, the story is tightly focused on Jayden and Selena's relationship.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:

WOLF RISING is an explosive addition to the SWAT series with sexy scenes and intense action. This book tackles serious inner city gang drama with two heroes who have both lost nearly everything to gang violence.

Selena kicked ass before she became a werewolf. She is a teacher in the neighbourhood she grew up in, sticking around for the kids in her classes even though she lost her own brother to gangs. Her conviction, even as the violent omega werewolf she is becoming fights for control, is rock solid and she will do anything to protect her students.

Although no less devoted to his work, Brooks is a large teddy bear of a man, who unfortunately becomes the main target of the werewolf hunters as they assume the largest wolf will be the leader of the pack. He’s not, but that doesn’t stop the hunters targeting him - and Selena.

I’ve said before that I love how the mythology of the SWAT novels has evolved and that holds true for WOLF RISING. We don’t get an isolated story about a couple meeting; we get a self-contained adventure that helps the world and the story progress, and I really appreciate that in a paranormal romance/suspense romance novel. We learn new things about omega werewolves; the ultra violent weres that cannot be part of a pack.

I felt the main villains were a bit predictable, but it in no way reduced my enjoyment of their eventual violent comeuppance. This book could be read as a standalone, but you’ll have more fun if you’ve read the previous books.

In this book we get Brooks' story and his One, Selena. Brooks meets Selena during a hostage situation in her classroom. Brooks and Selena do have some similarities in their backgrounds. They are both trying to work on the drug and gang issues in Dallas.

I am a big fan of this series. You don't have to read the books in order, but I think it's better if you do. I think it's helpful in this book because you learn more about the hunters and the gang situation in Dallas. I also like the updates on the rest of the SWAT pack. There were a few unanswered questions in this book so I can't wait for the next in the series.

Eight books on into Paige Tyler’s shapeshifter SWAT series, ‘Wolf Rising’ finally goes deeper to explore the idea of the omega wolf: the long, violent ranger as opposed to the Alpha wolf pack like the SWAT team this series revolves around.

In the same pattern that Tyler takes with all the SWAT books, there’s the prologue that begins with a violent incident that marks the start of a man-turned-werewolf, then a period of time later as we find them settled as a motley crew of growling, all-too-alpha pack within a SWAT compound in Dallas and searching for their one true mate. The journey to each HEA is as always, fraught with some kind of danger, and it’s no different for Jayden Brooks who finds his one and only here after a traumatic event that starts her shifting process into an omega werewolf.

Tyler juggles several points of conflicts along with the romance: the war on drugs and gangbangers, the looming hunters, the unpredictable and uncontrollable omega wolf. But clearly all isn’t quite resolved yet as issues with the wolf hunters look to stretch further on into the future with barely any progress made on that front seeing as the romance and the omega wolf are what take priority in the plot.

With Tyler going with the myth of each shapeshifter finding the one and only mate for himself is one that I always find rather hard to swallow hook, line and sinker nonetheless—there are several gaps in logic and unanswerable questions that keep coming up—but it’s a trope of shapeshifting fantasy that certainly and conveniently helps cement a pairing together the moment they find each other. It seems that having part-wolf genes provides enough grounding rationale for instant love (or rather, lust), and the quick way in which Selena/Brooks fall for each other—attributed mostly to a scent both can’t shake off that’s probably akin to the first flush of love—left me sceptical.

Still, the mythology of werewolves at least, tailored-to fit in Tyler’s SWAT series, is what kept the pages turning for me as each book reveals a little more about them, despite several predictable plot points. Apart from Selena’s somewhat uncharacteristic TSTL behaviour after finding out what she’d become (this gets back on track rather quickly), ‘Wolf Rising’ is quite a straightforward and decent read that isn’t weighed down too much with convoluted past history despite being the eighth book in the series.

I just love the SWAT books! An all werewolf SWAT team, with hunky guys is drool worthy! Selena has fought gangs her entire life. Gangs took everything from her and she decided to fight back by becoming a teacher and standing up to them. I loved her spirit. She wanted to help kids and give them love so they wouldn't turn to the gang life.

Jayden is brought in to rescue Selena when one of her students brings a gun into class and is going to kill her. It was a good story. Their chemistry together is absolutely hot. Selena has a great friend and her back story is heartbreaking. I enjoyed learning more about werewolves and each difference. Seeing that they can change from beta to alpha or from omega. The hunters are horrible and need to all be exterminated! I cannot wait to see what happens next with this team, I'm hoping there is some revenge in the mix.

4/5 and I cannot wait to pick up the next one.

Exploding right out of the gates from word one, Wolf Rising reminded me why I love this author's SWAT series and her writing. As the series progresses so does the strengths of its individual and combined elements. The werewolf police SWAT team continues to amaze as gang warfare, hunter intrigue, and a close-up look at what it means to be an Omega wolf.

Wolf Rising is book eight and I felt its strong ties to the earlier books in the series as ongoing series plot threads and a growing large cast of regular characters make it not a good place to jump into the series.

Jayden Brooks has been with the SWAT team for a long time. Personal tragedy in his early life and a near fatal injury in the early years of his police career are all part of the backstory bringing him to being a member of Gage's team and pack. While fighting the war on drugs and gang crime, he gets called in for a school shooting in progress and that is when his whole life changes with one look into teacher Selena Rosa's eyes.
Teaching at a school in the part of town where the gangs have a stranglehold on the kids and success stories for her students are few, but Selena will have it no other way. She's dedicated to her job and her kids. Her classroom is meant to be a have for them to find some peace and a chance to learn- to get out and make good for their futures. But one flat-eyed newbie gangbanger has to bring a gun and take his bitterness out on her for standing between him and his recruitment efforts. She survives only because a big handsome police officer puts himself between the bullets and her. Her world upends in more ways than one. Jayden is all she could want in a man, but its those crazy things happening to her emotions and her body, the inexplicable strength and acute senses along with desire to sink her teeth into Jayden that terrify her the most.

As I said, this one jumped right into the action with a raid on a drug warehouse and then a school shooting. Jayden is involved in the investigation to find out who the new gangleader consolidating and unifying the gangs and their drug business is even while helping to discover more about the mole in the Dallas PD and the leader of the werewolf hunters.

Jayden was so easy to love from the start and get behind all that happens with him as he discovers his The One, helps two cop friends deal with personal crisis, and stepping in to do what he has to helping Selena with her change.

Ah yes, Selena's change. It was cool to get it from the beginning as she becomes a werewolf and how it is complicated with feelings for Jayden, her concern for her students, and her hatred of the gangs. She's a tough cookie and tended to lead with her emotions rather than common sense, but I couldn't fault her for having a heart for work that most people would rather step back and look elsewhere over.

I thought the author did a great job of painting this new facet of city life and crime these days. She got real and it was gritty, but there was hope and light in the form of people like Selena and a few others willing to give back in these communities.

The mystery element of who was behind things and what was going on wasn't tough to figure out early on. I still found it suspenseful because I was waiting to see what happened when the second shoe dropped. I'm also very curious about where things will go in the next book after that tantalizing hint toward the end regarding the hunters.

Side trail... that cat who comes to the name Kat was a hoot. She kept stealing the scenes and giving Tuffie a run for cute SWAT mascot pet.

All in all, this was another fabulous and solid entry in the series that read fast because I couldn't put it down most of the time. Those who love cop romantic suspense paired with a refreshing take on werewolves should give these a try.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wolf Rising by Paige Tyler is the 8th book in her wonderful SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) series. I love this series, as Tyler always gives us exciting stories that are pulse pounding action, with a great couple, and the hot men (werewolves) that make up the alpha swat team. Wolf Rising was another wonderful romance suspense that Tyler does so well.

Jayden Brooks, our hero, is sent with some of his teammates to a hostage situation at the local high school, where a gang member is threatening a student, as well as the teacher. He arrives just in time to rescue them, and senses something different about the teacher.

Selena Rosa, our heroine, has stood up to gangs all her life, having lost her brother to one of them years before. Selena refused to back down to the gang member, and when Jayden rescues her, she thinks he is badly hurt. When she later goes to visit him at the Swat headquarters, she finds it strange that he was not hurt, since she saw blood, but accepts his explanation and soon a friendship starts.

We watch Selena put herself in danger when the student who she helped save, is again in the middle of a gang attack. Selena loses control, and finds herself becoming strongly violent to scare off the gang. She does not understand what has come over her. Jayden can smell Selena’s scent and knows she is going through a change to become a werewolf. After talking to his c- workers, it seems the traumatizing event at the school triggered the change in Selena. How was he going to explain what is happening to her?

When their relationship becomes sexual, Selena panics when she sees that she bit Jayden and he is forced to tell her the truth, which she does not accept. Jayden also sees how Selena is very strong, and out of control at times, which hints that she is an Omega (a more violent wolf). In a short time, Selena will go to Jayden for help, and meet the rest of his teammates, and work with another experienced Omega wolf to learn how to control her urges. It was a nice added feature to learn more about the other types of wolves, such as Omega or Beta.

The story line focuses on the gangs and the drugs they help sell. One is a dangerous and at time lethal drug, and the SWAT team is determined to find the leader of this group creating the drug. The chemistry between Jayden and Selena is hot, and he knows that she is the ‘one’ (his mate). Selena has a nice best friend, Becca, who helps her come to terms with her change. I also love the men on the SWAT team, and how well they get along.

When things get dangerous, all hell will break loose, and Selena is once again in danger from the leader of the gang, someone she never suspected, (whom I did suspect from the start). The last ¼ of the book was very exciting; I was unable to put the book down. Paige Tyler does it again with another intense, intriguing, fun and sexy story, with a fabulous group of secondary characters. I have said this before; Tyler manages to keep the story in the forefront, and still give us a beautiful sexy romance. Wolf Rising is a wonderful addition to this fantastic series that you should be reading.

It is always so easy to fall back into Paige Tyler’s werewolf team series. I have yet to find one that I did’t love, even if I did’t like some characters or their actions. Wolf Rising brings Jayden’s chance to hind his “one”… and he gets a lot more than he ever expected in Selena.

I loved Selena. She’s confident, takes no crap from anyone, loyal to a fault and completely wrapped up in her students. Unfortunately, she and her students live in a gang controlled area and keeping her students out of the clutches of the gangs is an ongoing battle. Some she wins, others are not so lucky. This day Selena is being held hostage in her classroom by a gang member – and life as she knows it is about to change forever.

Almost immediately upon arriving at the scene Jayden catches that special scent, the one that will lead to his mate – but there’s more to that scent and it couldn’t happen at a worse time. Every member of the team knows personally that the werewolf gene is switched on by a traumatic event… and being held hostage has just switched that gene on in Selena. Even more problematic? She’s an omega, strong and out of control. Now it’s up to Jayden to not only introduce his mate into their paranormal world but to show her just what she is to him as well.

Wolf Rising is intense, sexy and once again grabbed my attention until the final page. Jayden and Selena have more to deal with than her turning and their attraction. We’ll discover who the insider is. And add more information about several sub-plots. In some ways this story feels like a turning point, but I’ll have to see if I still feel that way when the next story comes along. In all, I completely enjoyed myself in this world once again. I don’t like to slip on spoilers, so I’m often vague with suspense novels… but this one is intriguing, and if you’ve read the rest of the series you’ll definitely want to pick up Wolf Rising. I’d not hesitate to recommend this story or the entire series to any reader of Paranormal Romance or Suspense – you’ll find yourself quickly captured by this series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

The clash of werewolves Brooks and Selena is freaking hot! Wolf Rising, SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #8, is a sexy, action-packed romantic suspense. This was my first time reading this series by New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, Paige Tyler and it was so freaking good! Now, I need to go back and read the other 7.

At first, I will admit, I was a little lost on how Brooks became a werewolf but it all unfolded as the book progressed. Brownie points to Paige Tyler on how they become a werewolf. Rather than the typical getting bit and turning, in this series, it is a genetic mutation. That right there has reeled me right into the series.

SWAT Officer Brooks: Freaking tall, broad, silky dark chocolate Brooks… swoon. My brain bounced from Shemar Moore to Idris Elba throughout this book. Heck throw them in the air and make a hybrid of the two. Just that yummy. He was the perfect alpha for Selena. Well, he is an “Alpha” werewolf but he is able to handle Selena during her transformation into an “Omega” werewolf.

High School Teacher Ms. Selena Rosa: I really liked her character. She is a teacher, a protector, a momma bear through and through to her students. She teaches in the same rough neighborhood that she grew up in. She has become somewhat of a buffer between the gangs and her students and she is ok with it. But when she gets caught between one of her students and a gang member, it triggers the gene mutation causing her to become a werewolf. And this little lady can kick some serious booty!

This would be an awesome tv series. It's a must read book And should be added to your TBR list.

This is book 8 in the Swat series and you absolutely need to read the previous books in the series to understand the things they are talking that happen in the bigger story ARC. This one is about SWAT member Jayden Brooks and school teacher Selena Rosa. Jayden meets Selena when he saves her in a hostage situation at her school by a student. Once he meets her though he has a hard time getting her out of his head, but he doesn't think he will see her again. Selena feels the need to at least thank the men who saved her life, especially Jayden. When they meet again Jayden knows there is something about her that draws him. But he doesn't realize at first that she is going through the change or exactly what that will mean to her.

I really liked this installment! Jayden has always made me wonder about him and this book definitely did his story justice! I loved how it pulled Selena into their world in a way that could have been traumatizing but with the help of not only Jayden but his team (his family!) they manage to pull her through and know that she has people to help her. I even loved how her backstory was handled and taken care of, even with it being as heart breaking as it was. Now after reading this one though, I seriously need Zane's book! Because please tell me he gets a HEA and heals!!

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I do own this book and most of this series in either ebook or paperback. Love these books!

The cover is serious! He is ready to take out the bad guys!

This is the 8th book in the series though I haven’t read them all yet even though I own most of them! This is the 3rd I’ve read in this series.

I love all the action, and there is so much going on! No chance of getting bored reading this book! I couldn’t put it down. It is always interesting to learn how a SWAT member became a werewolf, and in this book, you get that plus Selena going through her change. Selena and Jayden are both pretty awesome, and I love how they protect each other. Selena is knocked for several loops during the story as she learns things. I also love that Selena is a teacher, so I connected with her and Becca. Jayden will do anything to protect his friends, packmates, and innocents. Hunters are still a problem, and they cause all sorts of trouble.

I highly recommend this book to any wolf shifter fan who wants action packed, fighting the good fight, and romance! I love Paige’s style and how exciting her stories are!

Jayden Brooks was just doing his job. He put himself in the line of fire to prevent a teacher from being shot by one of her students. As he was carrying her out to the ambulance, their eyes met and something clicked between them. He wasn't sure what happened, just that he could not stop thinking about her.

Selena Rosa was determined to keep as many of her students as possible away from the gangs. Even so, she did not expect one of her students to come into her classroom and try to kill her. She was saved from that attempt by SWAT officer Jayden Brooks. In addition to her wanting to see him to thank him for saving her, she wanted to see him because she couldn't stop thinking about him.

As Selena and Jayden start to get to know each other, Selena notices she's going through some unexplained changes. Jayden also notices but he knows what the changes mean. Can he convince Selena of what's happening, keep her for himself, and also keep her safe from all the danger surrounding SWAT and the gangs?

Once again we meet the werewolves of our SWAT team - and once again I found myself glued to my reader. Even when I just wanted to scroll through it to refresh my memory when I was writing this review, I was pulled in once more and ended up reading it - again.

Gripping, captivating and full of suspense from the first page to the last, this book was amazing! And Selena and Brooks, well, I loved those two! Oh, and there're brownies. You can never go wrong when there are brownies involved, right?
Anyway - those two made me chuckle and laugh, swoon and I worried with them when things got rough and complicated. I loved learning more about the pack and the different kinds of werewolves and I loved learning more about "our" team and its members.

A highly enjoyable book with a great story and some really amazing characters! I'm looking forward to the next book in this series and I can't wait to finally read it!

Every book in this series is a winner in my opinion. Nothing like combining wolf shifters and SWAT officers. Full of action, romantic suspense and hot sex. All my favorite things to read.

Jayden Brooks isn't thinking he'll find "THE ONE" like his teammates but when he goes into a high school classroom of Selena Rosa he suspects he's found her. Selena has been trying to drag her students away from gangs since she lost her family to gang violence. She's confronted by one of her former students, Pablo, who's bullying and belittling his "best friend" Ruben when things escalate out of control. This traumatic experience triggers her latent wolf genetics and brings her to Jayden's attention as he tries to defuse the confrontation. The story continues as Selena rapidly shows her new confusing wolf powers and finds herself in the middle of gang unification war and distribution of the illegal drug fentanyl. Add to that the werewolf hunters closing in and the SWAT pack trying to discover who's giving up their locations within the police department. This is a jam packed book that is so HOT. I just adore Paige's stories. Thank you Paige
and Sourcebooks for allowing me to review this book.

Many of Paige Tyler's SWAT series titles open with an origin story about how the main character becomes a werewolf. I like this because it allows me to understand the hero from the get-g0. I wasn't prepared for Jayden though, the prologue had me on the edge of my seat with my mind willing me to read faster and faster. Of course with a police officer as brave as Jayden he has to have an equally courageous mate, enter Selena, a woman who doesn't have to have superpowers to stand up for what is right. Their romance went from zero to sixty just like the SWAT team action. If you've read the other SWAT books you won't be disappointed. If you haven't read them, first, read them asap and second, this is a great one to start with, you'll love it!

Ha! This one was an extremely interesting book for me! For long time readers of this series, would have read about the Omegas and how out of control they could be. And now our sweet and strong school teacher, The One for Jayden, was one of them! How could she be? How these two could overcome it and had their HEA? With addition (well, not really an addition, as suspense was a big part of this) of thrilling and gripping suspense… this book was a true winner! Loved it!

I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through NetGalley, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

The Dallas PD SWAT team have their hands full, thanks to a growing drug problem and gang-related incidents: a raid on a warehouse doesn’t go exactly as planned, then there’s a hostage situation in the Terrace Grove High School, where Jayden Brooks takes a bullet meant for teacher Selena Rosa. Jayden wasn’t too badly injured because he’s a werewolf, but the most startling was that Selena might be “The One” for him, his true mate. The hostage-taking triggered Selena’s shifter DNA to surface, and Selena’s first shift might happen sooner than anticipated, which makes Jayden wonder if the connection he and Selena share could only be a reaction to her impending change.

This is a great book! WOLF RISING is the eight instalment in the SWAT series, and decidedly one of the finest books in this series. While recurring characters are featured, and there’s a continuing story arc, WOLF RISING stands perfectly on its own; no pertinent details are missing, no one will be lost! WOLF RISING is flawlessly paced: from the explosive action at the beginning, to the SWAT team trying to elucidate the mystery of “the hunters”, finding the identity of the traitor in the Dallas Police Department, and the sultry romantic times between Jayden and Selena, it all flows seamlessly. The dialogues are spot-on, the plot meticulously crafted, and again Paige Tyler has written a splendid hero: no woman in her right mind could resist Jayden! And, apart from the eye colour, the model on the cover is exactly how I imagined Jayden. Selena is a fighter, she doesn’t shy away from confrontations, and she surprises everyone, even herself; one couldn’t dream of a better-matched pair.

Villains can make or break a suspense novel, and the bad guys in WOLF RISING are superb: they are terrifyingly realistic, ordinary people who have somehow turned deadly. There are a few subplots that bode well for the future: one revolving around Zane Kendrick, another around Carter Nelson – both Jayden’s teammates – and the secondary are fully fleshed-out and enhance the story: Becca, a good friend of Selena’s; Ernesto, Ruben, and a most intriguing black cat. The chemistry between Selena and Jayden is palpable from the start, and getting to know both their backstories was exquisitely done, and it makes us believe that they fall for each other so quickly. WOLF RISING is an excellent read, and with the hints dropped at the end, I am already eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!

Let me start out by saying that this is a fantastic series and must be read. But any way you want.
Jayden Brooks is a wherewolf shifter and part of the SWAT team.
His team are called into a hostage situation at the school. One of the teachers Selena Rosa is being threatened by one of her students. When Brooks doesn’t hesitate and neither does his pack to make a
grand entrance things go a little crazy. Brooks tackles Selena to protect her. Soon things are blurry and she’s taken away by the paramedics. He wants to make sure she’s ok.

Buy the book and see what happens. Ms. Tyler does not disappoint.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book!
Selena is a high school teacher for godsakes, not a werewolf.
So how come she is sprouting fangs, furs, and claws.
Jayden did not believe in soulmates.
But when he scented Selena, all bets are off.
On top of that, she is experiencing her first transformation.
Good Luck Jayden! You are going to need it.
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.
