A solid, expositional, challenging and encouraging book on Colossion. It’s not especially unique, but it was good through and through. Chin helps you understand Colossians better (and in this way, its even a helpful light commentary), but more important, Chin writes in a way that stirs your heart for Christ and gospel living.

I especially enjoyed his treatment on the at-first seemingly universalist passage on Christ reconciling all things to himself in Colossians 1. It was perhaps the clearest explanation I've ever seen. Moreover, I enjoyed his treatment on the wife/husband roles in Colossians 4. Again, clear and helpful.

Kevin DeYoung endorses this on the cover writing, “This book is a terrific resource for seekers, new believers, and long-time Christians alike.” I can’t say it better than that. It easily deserves 5 stars for simply being faithful to Scripture, enjoyable to read, insightful, and challenging and encouraging over and over.

An excellent book that was really encouraging to read. Deep and moving for longtime believers but so well written for newer believers or those newer to reading books like this.

Chin dives deep into the keys of the text but does so in an accessible way. So much Jesus and and so much worship came from this book. It took me just a few hours to read.

Chin did not set out to write a commentary on the book of Colossians, but what he has laid out is a study of Colossians that leaves the leader wrestling with the reality that Christ is Lord. Chin highlights perfectly how Christians are to be completely enamored with Christ and with proclaiming the good news that Jesus saves. He does all of this by walking through the book of Colossians. This book was encouraging as it highlighted what the Christian life is supposed to look like in a fallen world. It’s also a very quick read and is not full of deep theological themes. Thus, it would be a good resource for new converts.

Richard Chin provides a section by section overview of Colossians, not neceessarily in the form of a commentary per se but still covering the entire letter in chapters that could be sermons. Chin is very practical in his applications and magnifies Christ in a way fitting to the theme of Paul's letter. I really enjoyed this.

Captivated by Christ walks the reader through Colossians and how it applies to our lives as believers of Jesus. There are quite a few gems in this book and a majority of this book focuses on the first two chapters of Colossians. This book provides the reader with a good understanding of how Colossians should change our faith, love and hope in God in a practical sense.

While near the middle-end of the book, we can see the author emphasizing missions and addresses some of the lesser talked about passages like 3:18-25.

Overall, its a decent book and can be helpful to many looking for a diver dive on the book of Colossians.

I really appreciate these type of sermon-like books on books of the Bible. They act like accessible and applicable commentaries on the book and they are truly wonderful resources. I’m always trying to encourage people in my ministry to study scripture and study it deeply. I’m always looking for books to recommend that survey scripture over against hefty, academic commentaries. This is one of those for sure!

Captivated by Christ is about Paul’s letter to the church in Colossae. This short book could be a list of sermons on Colossians. It could also be an expositional or devotional book on Colossians. It is not so much as a book in the gospel but on the application of the Gospel. After hearing Richard chin at least years T4G I knew I needed to read this book. There are nuggets that you did not know were there but for the most part it is a reminder of the gospel gems in the short epistle .

Lots of really good thoughts, but it was too short! He doesn’t develop all of his ideas or explanations very well. I get that this is a sermon series and not a commentary, but when you’re not limited by time, it seems like you should be able to really dig deep.

Richard Chin does a great job of drawing you into the book of Colossians. It is an easy read and yet at the same time you find yourself stopping to consider what you just encountered.

Attributing the quote to someone somewhere Chin reminds to follow the example, "I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages." pg.29

"The shape of marriage for husbands is the shape of the cross." - pg. 108

A powerful reminder of the love and grace of Christ and the relationship we share with him by analyzing Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae. Will be using for our small group study this fall!

This book is more or less a easy to read commentary on Colossians. I would recommend using it as a part of your devotional time with God or as a Bible study with others as read through Colossians.

Great companion as I preached through Colossians.

Richard Chin's talks (turned into chapters) on Colossians were engaging, illustrative, and highly applicable.

Helpful exposition of Colossians. Includes some thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter. Would make a good devotional or 1 on 1 study. Also a nice tool for teaching or preaching Colossians.

A great exposition of Colossians! It was very thorough, but not overly heady. I really enjoyed reading and discussing this book with others. I'd like to read another book by this author. His tone was easy to follow. He gave good content and was able to bring in application and clarity for a non-seminarian reader, like me! :)
