The Lost Swarm
Star Watch stands guard over the Commonwealth, having defeated New Men, massed Swarm fleets and android attackers. The victories have cost lost ships, slain crews and smashed star systems. The accumulated damage means that Star Watch now strains to keep order as political instability, increased space piracy and rebellions stretch the stellar organization to the limit. Humanity desperately needs peace so Star Watch can rebuild and regroup. Unfortunately, Lord Drakos is searching the Beyond for a splinter Swarm colony world. The New Man believes he is a Napoleon of the stars. But he needs a fleet to prove it. Intelligence thinks Drakos hopes to make a pact with Thrax Ti Ix, assembling a fleet of renegade New Men and hybrid Swarm creatures, a fleet that will attack humanity. Plan A has Captain Maddox capturing Drakos before he can find Thrax. Plan B means Star Watch will have to risk sending a fleet into the Beyond. For Maddox this is also a voyage of discovery, as he learns the identities of his mother and father. THE LOST SWARM is the eleventh book in the LOST STARSHIP SERIES.

I was born in Canada and remember as a small boy crawling in my snow-fort. I closed my eyes, and when I tried to open them, they were frozen shut. I didn't panic, but wiped away the ice crystals, unglued my eyes and kept on building my tunnel. Those were great days! I moved to Central California before seventh grade and couldn't believe I lived in a land where oranges grew on trees and you could pick grapes from the vine.
I used to wonder what I wanted to do with my life, what kind of work specifically. I was miserable not knowing and bordering on desperate. Then one day a friend gave me his typewriter. I began working on a novel. A different person told me it was much easier on a computer, so I bought one and began getting up at 4:30 A.M. each morning before work, writing for three hours. My eyes were unglued once again as the pang of misery left my gut. I knew exactly what I wanted to do: write. So now that's what I do, I write, and write, and write, and I love it.

So exciting, answers to questions in this book. Absolutely love this series. Highly recommend this series and Mr. Heppner's other series. I am a huge fan. I was reading another book when this book popped up on my Kindle. I immediately downloaded the book and started reading it.

After debating chasing down Lord Drakos in the previous installment, Captain Maddox finally goes after his arch nemesis, who he had to let go after a past pivotal encounter, in "The Lost Swarm," writer Vaughn Heppner's 11th in the Lost Starship series. Drakos, a New Man with a chip on his shoulder, wants power. He feels owed. He's smarter than the lesser humans being genetically enhanced like his fellow "dominants." And he really hates Maddox, who bested him in their last go-round. Drakos wants to take over the Throne World, where New Men have based their new society. But to do it, he needs allies, or at least some help. Drakos calls himself cunning. And he is. But he's as trustworthy as an assassin with no scruples. In this novel, Maddox must try to outsmart Drakos before the New Man defeats Earth and the Throne World's leadership. His mission is far from easy and the challenges are many. Maddox faces probably his greatest test, and Valerie, his fellow Star Watch officer, must step up. And Heppner continues his foray into character development of those who lead the starship Victory. This is a surprisingly good book.

This book seemed to really not build upon the previous book, besides passing mention to some of the events. I guess it's kind of like a TV series, it's playing the long game. Another solid episode in the ever growing Lost Starship space opera.
Spoiler horn: I'm glad they wrapped up the hardliner new man and nearby swarm threads for the most part, that was good. I was expecting mystery about Maddox's parents to be drawn out longer, I guess we don't know the full story, but I guess I am glad we got what we did. I expected about as much with the Iron Lady, and knew his dad wasn't going to turn out to be awful, but I was pleasantly surprised how the events unfolded.

OK....ish
I don’t know why I keep reading this series. It’s rubbish. But I suppose in the way that a Soap Opera on TV can become addictive, so to can this series
It’s all full of stereotypical garbage: One renegade officer, looked down upon by others, but smarter and stronger than them all, outwits and out fights allcomers and somehow wins the day. Every single day.
But.....it entertains, it fills a gap, and like a good soap opera, it just keeps bumbling along. One day, we will discover an evil twin, more on long lost Dad, etc., etc.

Another excellent addition to this great And highly entertaining space opera
Well we finally know the genealogy of captain Maddox. Probably no big surprise to many of you. A very satisfying ending. Eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series. Once again Mr. Hepner has proven he is a national treasure!

Great continuation of this saga. I love it. More character growth, great action from man to man or android to huge star battles. The audio was well done as well. Still great quality. I still love this mix of action, space battles, ground fights, spie life, and an ongoing evolving story.
I can't recommend this book and this series enough.

Closure part 1
A lot of things went on this time and finally there’s more answers and confirmations than questions. But I feel Thrax deserves to be more then a cursory character.
Ludendorff is also getting too few comic relief appearances. Perhaps we will see more of him when he (hopefully) brings Dana back.

One of the best in the series! I think the past few books had kind of been in a funk but now it feels like the real story is taking shape. It involved plot lines with more than Just Capt Maddox- and even had backstory and character development! The past few books were severely lacking in those departments. I am looking forward to continuing the series.

Finally some answers
One of the more satisfying installments. Finally, we get some backstory! We also get set up for new enemies and fresh challenges. Grammar and spelling mistakes are minimal compared to others I've read in this category.

May be best yet in Series
Surprising complexity, excellent plotline. Probably the best In the list Starship Series. Old mysteries resolved, New enemies discovered. Highly recommended.

Another great Heppner book !
I would like to start with this is another great book in a series of great books by Vaughn Heppner. The characters are very engaging, and he makes you feel like you are standing up there with them . Enjoying every moment!

Good story
The story is quickly paced and expansive. The characters will be well known from the prior sagas. I enjoyed the reveals which we waited a long time for.

Entertaining.
I normally don’t like the way the books in the series starts and it seems like a lot is going on but it’s damn entertaining once I get a few chapters in.

Some important details revealed on Maddox's heritage. What I've puzzled over though is how he could be considered only half New Man when all New Man are born as he is.
