Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

Pulse pounding action from the first page to the last, well, except for the mushy parts. I'm going to warn you: you will not be able to but this book down. It's a good thing that you can read it in a day because the story is riveting. It isn't often that I like the baddie more than the hero and heroine. Belladonna is a rare breed and totally fascinating. A cold blooded cartel killer, no less.

Marshal Nick McKenna has gotten in over his head with the beautiful informant he is sworn to protect. He only has one more day with her and she will be gone into WITSEC after she testifies against the firm laundering the money for the most powerful drug cartel in the country.

Lori Carpenter has a lot of regrets in her life, this past year with Nick isn't one of them. Her biggest regret is that it will come to an end in a day. But, she has to live that long and with a team of trained murderers lead by one really cold-blooded assassin, who have tried numerous times to kill her, it isn't looking like she is going to make it.

Hostile Pursuit was a fast-paced read with an intriguing plot and an amazing romance.

With only twenty-four hours remaining until she testifies against a powerful drug cartel, Lori Carpenter is ready for her new life to begin. The one thing Lori will miss after the last year in WITSEC is marshal Nick McKenna, her irresistible protector. Nick has kept Lori safe the entire time she’s been hidden, but with time running out the cartel has decided to take one last shot at Lori to keep her from testifying. With assassins closing in, Nick and Lori must go on the run before the cartel stops Lori for good.

Lori and Nick’s relationship has been strictly professional for the last year despite the obvious attraction between them. It was only after the pair had to go off-book to save Lori that they let themselves give in to that attraction. I thought they had fantastic chemistry and the progression of their romance was believable for the situation they were in. My only complaint about their romance was that I didn’t like how Nick reacted after finding out what Lori’s life was like while she was connected to the cartel. His reaction was very judgemental and I would have preferred him to have handled the situation differently.

The plot of Lori and Nick being on the run from cartel assassins was very well done. The story begins with an attempt on Lori’s life the day before she is set to testify and the action never lets up. There were numerous encounters with the cartel to keep things interesting and I found the way Nick handled the situations to be believable. The main cartel assassin, Belladonna, was quite the character and I liked that the author chose to go the female assassin route. The ending of the book was action-packed and wrapped up in a way I didn’t expect.

Overall Hostile Pursuit was a great start to a romantic suspense series and I will definitely be checking out more books from this author in the future.

What a story! A great suspenseful book full of action, intrigue and wonderful characters.

Lori Carpenter had been in WITSEC for a year. She just had one more day before testifying against a drug cartel. Cartels don't tolerate snitches but Lori HAD to do the right thing by testifying against the firm laundering the money for the cartel. They couldn't let that happen so the day before the trial an assassin was sent for her.

Marshal Nick McKenna had been protecting Lori for the past year and he sure would miss her when she didn't need him anymore. But, more importantly, he had to keep her alive until the trial. When the assassins always knew where they were going, Nick didn't know who he could trust. The only way he could keep Lori safe was to go "dark".

Nick and Lori kept their relationship professional while living together for a year, but their attraction had been growing. If anything was going to become of their feelings she has to live long enough to do that. With the many times assassins tried to kill her, it wasn't looking good.

Lori was sweet, sexy, courageous and had the biggest heart. Always worrying about others more than herself. I loved Nick. He was the ultimate protector, taking his job very seriously. He was determined to keep Lori alive no matter what the risk to himself.

Seriously, this was a great book and I highly recommend it to romantic suspense fans.

Hostile Pursuit was a suspenseful, jam-packed read!! I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to know what would happen next-and it was a lot!

I loved getting the villain’s POV, helping show the mindset of a few decisions made. It was actually a little weird-in a good way-having the villain get almost as much attention as the H/h.

I also enjoyed getting to see what Nick and Lori were made of under pressure. Conclusion: determined!

Nick and Lori’s relationship wasn’t insta-lust by an stretch, since the attraction has been a year in the making, and I got a kick out of how much they unintentionally learned about one another.

Overall, this bite sized book satisfied on action, romance, and definitely suspense!

I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley/Harlequin and this is my honest review.

This edge of your seat romantic thriller had me hooked from the beginning and didn't let up until the sizzling conclusion. Deputy Marshall Nick McKenna is tasked with keeping Lori Carpenter safe, alive and on time to testify against a ruthless cartel kingpin. After having been together in a safehouse for a year, the sexual tension between the two is palpable. Now with only 24 hours left before she testifies, a determined, relentless female assassin will do everything possible to keep her from getting to the courthouse on time. The nail-biting action is non-stop and suspenseful, the pace is lightening fast and the plot tightly wound. Coming in at around 250 pages this was a quick read done in one sitting. If romantic thrillers are one of the genres you enjoy, I highly recommend you check this one out.

Thank you Juno Rushdan for the digital ARC to read, review and enjoy.

What a wild ride Hostile Pursuit was from the first page to the last! Lori and Nick were nonstop action and left you on the edge of your seat to find out if Lori would make it to the trial or die trying.

Lori Carpenter is a witness for the prosecution against a drug cartel. What she knows will put them away for good and end a lot of money flowing in and out of the country. The Jackals don't want her still sucking air by the time the trial date arrives. They send a deadly assassin, Belladonna, to take out Lori, but none of them are expecting US Marshall Nick McKenna's level of dedication to Lori. She's not just a witness to him, she's everything.

Only a day away from the trial all hell breaks loose and the only thing standing between Lori and death is Nick. With his partner dead, Nick is forced to think on his feet to keep her alive until he can get her somewhere safe. The US Marshall's office has been compromised and he doesn't know who to trust.

Nick and Lori are on the run but they still find time to share tender moments and show the reader that they truly do love each other after spending a year together in a safe house. Nick will do anything to protect Lori, even knowing he's going to lose her to witness protection after she testifies, and Lori trusts Nick with her life. She doesn't trust him because he's a US Marshall, she trusts him because he loves her. Their romance is sweet, and frantic, as they run for their lives, but their underlying love shines through on the pages.

For the first time in reading an intrigue, I actually felt a little bad for the villain. Belladonna was at the Jackal's mercy and as a mother, I understood how her hand was forced to do what she had to do.

All in all, I loved this book and the intrigue and action it offered. You have to suspend reality a little bit because some of the stuff they do doesn't make a lot of sense in regards to how a WITSEC witness would actually be dealt with. It will all make sense at the end, however. There was also some random Farsi words thrown in with no explanation as to why. Nick's family was brought into the story with so little explanation about they are (I know this is the first book and that will probably come later but it was a bit confusing). The reader had to assume that Nick's mom was the reason for the Farsi but we never really know for sure. So it's really random and feels forced and out of place.

I give Hostie Pursuit five stars for the intrigue, action, and sweet love story with a HEA that fits the story.

I received a complimentary copy from Harlequin for an honest review. All opinions herein are my own.

It's a great start for a new series really i loved it.
Nick is a US Marshall and he is really good at what he does after having left the military AND having a family working into bounty i loved how that background played into Nick 's decisions and gave us a better understanding of his personality
Lori is in the witness protection program or will be once she testifies and that's why she has been under Nick and Ted protection for more than 1 year before the event of this book . She is courageous and loyal and really to withstand everything like she does i do admire her!

One bonus point of this story is that we get also the point of view of the hitwoman "Belladona" she is tasked to kill Lori and she sure has the means to do so from money from big explosive it's really impressive but it allows us to see a side not always seen as her world is dangerous and she isn't as free as we could have thought.

The rythm is fast paced, lot, LOT of action, it's a non stop run for Lori that has us suspended and unable to take a break from the book. I really loved it and if i don't give it a 5stars it's only because i guessed the traitor immediately but it did not prevent me from enjoying the book and want to keep reading so it's really well written and i do want to continue the series

To recommend if you love fast romance suspense full of action

Nick McKenna & Lori Carpenter are having the worst day anyone can have. Brought together as protector and protected around a year ago. They must survive so she can can testify at an important trail. Feelings come into play even though they try to deny them. Twenty fours to survive a Hot Pursuit.

Lori Carpenter is to testify against her former in-laws accounting firm. She’s been in protective custody with the U.S. Marshall’s service for over a year. Nick McKenna has thought of his assignment protecting Lori as punishment for hitting a fellow agent. What they both didn’t expect was the attraction and desire that has built up over about a year of constantly being together. When a trip to the mall for clothes to wear for the trial results in an attempt on Lori’s life. Thanks to Nick not following his intuition to follow a suspicious woman and an attack in the mall, he’s able to safe his partner and Lori. Following protocol brings them back to the safe house to more danger and a casualty. Nick heads to the nearest town and gets help from the local veterinary clinic. They’re found again and go for help to the county sheriff who agrees to help until the people after Lori use her daughter as leverage. He thinks that his superior is involved with the cartel. Nick takes a drastic measure and an escape ensues. Nick is determined to protect Lori with his life. Lori is keeping information from Nick. An escape through the woods ends with a trip to the local airport to have his brother pick them up and take them to the family compound. Nick’s mom gives him new perspective about what he’s learned about Lori. They spend the night together thinking it’s the last time they’ll be together since Lori will go into witness protection. Nick sets up way to get Lori safely there. The cartel’s head assassin sets up a huge distraction so that she can get to Lori. Instead of killing her the assassin wants to make a deal with Nick so that she can get free of the drug cartel and disappear with her family. Nick agrees to the deal. Lori testifies and they go their separate ways, Nick goes to find the person who compromised Lori. He promises to find her after his’s done. A reunion and a proposal and new life are put on hold when a call comes from his fellow agents.

Juno Rushdan starts her Hard-Core Justice series with Hot Pursuit. A sexy, danger filled story of how an assumed punishment turns to love and lust for a federal agent and the woman he’s protecting. Lives are on the line and secrets are revealed. A story of a woman who is willing to do the right thing even if it costs her the love of her life. Ms. Rushdan writes a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and wondering who is behind the leak of information. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing if its another Mckenna in trouble or is it the co-workers. Can’t wait to find out the next Hard-Core Justice book

Good book that started with a rush and remained intense until the end. Lori has been in WITSEC for a year, waiting to testify against a drug cartel. Marshal Nick McKenna and his partner Ted kept her safe the entire time. With only twenty-four hours to go, a team of killers, led by one very determined assassin, is committed to stopping her from testifying. After two attempts in as many hours, Nick and Lori go on the run.

I liked both Nick and Lori. I liked that they had a year of getting to know each other. For the entire year that she was under protection, their relationship was strictly professional. They became friends, watching movies, talking, cooking together, but resisted the obvious attraction between them. After the trial, Lori would go into Witness Protection, and they would never see each other again. It wasn't until the heightened emotions of their flight from danger that cracks appeared in their control. There are some sweet moments together, where their love is evident. There is also a bump in their road when Nick learns the full details of Lori's past. He doesn't take it well, and I was disappointed by his judgmental attitude, especially when he didn't let her explain. There was a great scene where they ended up at his family's home, and his mother adjusts Nick's attitude. The ending was terrific, and I loved the epilogue.

The suspense of the story was fantastic. It was twenty-four hours of roller-coaster action. The first attack was filled with danger from many different directions, some of them unexpected. The attack at the safe house roused Nick's suspicions, which were reinforced by their next bout of trouble and the assassin who stayed hot on their heels. Nick decided to "go dark," cutting off all communication with his boss for fear of being compromised again. I loved Nick's call for his brother's help and the plans made for the next day. Lori's arrival at the marshals building the next day was full of unexpected twists and revelations. I was on the edge of my seat until it was all over.

An unusual aspect of this book was the woman assassin, Belladonna. She was intense and unrelenting in her pursuit of Lori. I liked the book's parts that were told from her perspective, and I slowly developed a bit of sympathy for her. The final scene with her was intense and had an unexpected outcome.

This is the first book I have read by Juno Rushdan, but it won’t be the last! I am hooked by the fast pace action, great characters and plot!

Hostile Pursuit is about the 24 hours before Lori Carpenter will testify against a powerful drug cartel. Marshalls Nick McKenna and his partner Ted have protected her in a safe house for a year. Assassins close in —- seeming to know Lori’s every move. Nick believes his boss is the traitor. Not only are Lori and Nick fighting the bad guys, but their attraction to each other.

I was given an ARC of this book for my honest opinion. I really liked how the action is plausible and non-stop. Heck, I even liked Belladonna, one of the assassins! I will definitely be buying more books by Juno Rushdan!

This woman can write!

Yes she can. And every one of her books has been 5+ stars for me. This one is no exception.

We meet Nick and Lori after they've already been together for a year. But not together together. So, the slow burn has already taken place, and this is the story of the next 3 days. And it is nonstop. Who knew you could make so many attempts to kill someone in so many ways so quickly? Apparently, Juno knew. Each attempt more elaborate than the last. The bad guy is vey creative.

Anyway, lots of action, a hidden traitor, nicely drawn side characters, a slightly flawed hero and heroine and a HEA. A fun couple of hours. Thank you Ms. Rushdan. And hurry up with your next book. Please.

Suspenseful romance about doing the right thing, being accepted as you really are, and focusing on what you can control. Lori Carpenter, who is an important witness, has less than 24 hours to testify against the powerful head of a drug cartel. She has been under close watch by Deputy Marshal Nick McKenna for almost a year.
Nothing has changed for today, except that they are being hotly pursued by a team of ruthless assassins, who seem to know their where-about, and are always a step ahead of them!

Hostile Pursuit is very suspenseful, keeps one on edge, fast-paced and jam-packed with actions! It is on sale March 17, 2020. For fans of such genre, I highly recommend you grab one, sit back and enjoy!

Fast-paced action keeps you breathless until you finish. I was a little disappointed in Lori holding back from telling Nick the whole story and then when Nick finds out, I was disappointed in his reaction, but they both redeemed themselves in the end. Loved Nick's family interaction with Lori. Can't wait to read more in this series.

This action-packed romantic suspense novel definitely fits the “danger” prompt. The hero and heroine are in serious danger almost from the first page, and the action does not let up until the very end. Juno Rushdan has a great sense of pacing, and even if parts of it were hard for me to handle, Hostile Pursuit was quite well done.

Early on we learn one of the key facts that makes the setup of this book work: The hero and heroine have already met. Accountant Lori Carpenter has been in protective custody for a year, and Nick McKenna is one of the US Marshals who has been living at the safe house with her. In the opening scenes, as they discuss Lori’s upcoming move back to the city to testify, the author manages to show both the obvious chemistry between these two as well as the equally obvious maintenance of boundaries. Nick is not a creepster who keeps trying to push the envelope on consent, and I appreciated that.

Things have been tense but relatively quiet for Lori in protective custody, but everything changes when she goes on her approved trip to a store to buy her court clothes. After foiling an assassination attempt, Lori and the marshals run for safety only to find themselves in an ambush. Lori and Nick are the only survivors, and the rest of the book features the two of them trying to both survive and get Lori safely to court as scheduled.

The action in this book does not let up. Just when Lori and Nick reach apparent safety, the author throws another twist into the plot. While the suspense definitely dominates in this book, there is some relationship-building going on, particularly in the lulls between fights, chases and other adventures. Because Nick and Lori have an established rapport and friendship going into this book, the progression to romance feels anything but forced.

What an exhilarating ride this book was, the action and danger doesn’t let up for a minute and once I’d finished I was exhausted. Lori, about to give testimony in a massive trial, has been under the WITSEC protection of Marshall Nick McKenna. But someone will go to great lengths to stop her testifying. The romance was believable as Nick and Lori have gotten to know each other over the year that Lori was under Nicks protection, and it didn’t feel rushed amidst all the carnage that was unfolding between them. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series

This is the first book in the Hard Core Justice series by Juno Rushdan.

This was a pretty intense book. It begins when Lori Carpenter is hours away from testifying against Vargas, a man who is the head of a drug cartel. Vargas has hired assassins to stop Lori from ever getting to the courthouse. Her witness protection is Nick McKenna. He has spent nearly a year protecting Lori. But there is a mole in the witness protection program and every move they make to protect her, the bad guys always find them.

The second POV of this book is that of the killer, Belladonna. As the book wears on we are gifted with a bit of insight about her and her own struggles. We feel compassion for her and that is unusual in a book like this. I would certainly like to see her crop up in other books in a similar position.

This book was quite thrilling and ran at a break neck pace that really kept you interested and invested in discovering who was behind it all. The identity of the mole was pretty surprising and shocking.

I definitely want to read more from this author. I truly enjoyed this roller coaster ride.

If you love a good romantic suspense, you have to check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

Intense suspense, brutal action, and slow-building romance; an explosive and entertaining start for a new series.
With an interesting twist of humanizing the villain and giving them nearly as much attention as the protagonists get, this story captured my attention. The timeframe is another intriguing factor, as marshal Nick McKenna has been guarding informant Lori Carpenter for a year but now they have fiery 24 hours to make it alive to the testimony.
The suspense and action are amazingly done, the action is savage and scary, the fight to stay alive is intense, nothing is guaranteed.
The marshals took some artistic liberties for the sake of the storyline, but nothing that dimmed the enjoyment of the tale. Nick was a complex hero, not the easiest to like. He considered the past year as a punishment for mixing personal and professional life before, his ex was still part of the team, and that was made into an issue at the beginning that was never solved in this book, probably coming up again later in the series, I am assuming, as the series cliffhanger at the end of this book gave me the impression the stories in this series are well entwined.
Lori and Nick had been getting to know each other over the past year while he was protecting her. I was mesmerized to find out how they could make this situation work for them in a long run, yet that solution was never presented to the readers, giving more of a happy-for-now moment that was suddenly interrupted as well...
An exciting and arresting start to a new series that promises to be filled with potent suspense and fervent action with a side of ardent romance.

Juno Rushdan was a new-to-me author a while back when I took a chance on her book, Every Last Breath. As a romantic suspense junkie, it reeled me in and cemented this author as one of my go-to authors for the genre. I got sidetracked a bit by some other great releases but came back to her backlist thanks to a recent sale. I’m currently working my way through all the goodness that is Juno Rushdan’s writing that I’d previously not read.

Hostile Pursuit was non-stop action. So much so that there were times I wasn’t sure I could continue because SO much was happening to Lori and Nick I was kind of scared where the author was taking the plot. Needless to say, I plowed on and was rewarded by their HEA.

If you’re looking for non-stop action and suspense, you’ve found it in this book. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m on to book two in this series!

NICUnurse’s Rating: I give Hostile Pursuit by Juno Rushdan 5 out of 5 stars!

Pulse pounding and oh so exciting! A first-time reader for this author, and I can honestly say I can’t wait to get my hands on the next piece.

Nick is a marshal, sworn to protect his informant, that informant being a fiery woman by the name of Lori. With a small amount of time with her before she has to testify against one of the most powerful drug cartels in the country, Nick finds himself drawn to her in a way that catches him off guard. Nick must keep Lori alive to take them down, but the sexual tension is high, the danger even higher and the clock is against them both.

Hostile Pursuit is an edge of your seat book that you will not be able to put down. It’s jam packed with sexy goodness, romance and suspense, what better to spend this lovely quarantine doing but reading this awesome book!
