When the auction paddle goes up, more than money is at stake.

The Black brothers built the Black Pearl Nightclub into the city's hottest destination, but Galan carries a family secret that could destroy everything his brothers believe about their past. He buries his guilt in work and meaningless hookups—until his enigmatic bartender steps onto the auction stage.

Layla has watched Galan from afar long enough. When the annual charity auction presents the perfect opportunity, she takes the stage with one goal: make him bid. Even his brothers are in on the plan.

One night was supposed to cure their mutual obsession. Instead, it ignites something neither can control. But when Layla's past collides with the truth Galan's been hiding, their fragile connection—and his family—hang in the balance.

Some secrets are too dangerous to keep, and too devastating to reveal.

I’m an award winning author who loves to write scorching hot contemporary and science fiction romance—stories I love to read. I love working from home, where my office window looks out over our ‘block’ of fourteen acres with gorgeous mountain views. After enjoying a stint as a foster carer for cats, I now have seven felines to entertain me, along with two dogs and two horses. But only when I’m not distracted by my three gorgeous daughters, one of whom—a teenager *shriek*—is still living at home. As for my husband…he’s still waiting for retirement.

A steamy, passionate, romance
One that will definitely be for you if you are a fan .

The two main characters have challenges of their own.
Gallan is a ladies man , but his one night rule stands no matter who the lady is , no long term relationships .

Layla comes from a dysfunctional home , her dad is a womaniser and a drunk , her mum is a stripper, but the two stay married, go figure.

When after 6 months Layla decides now is the time to get Gallans attention she does it by auctioning herself in his club , of course he has to bid.

A good read, but I felt it didn’t do justice to their relationship other than in bed .
In around 3 weeks they went from boss and employee to a lot more and the only thing in common was sex .
Maybe I missed something but I felt they should have had more of a connection. Hence the 3 stars .

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Galan Black - one of the three soul owners of Black Pearl , the oldest Black brother , conservative, commitment freak ,hot blooded , passionate , responsible, enthusiastic, possessive lover , sex God
Layla - waitress at Black Pearl , hardworking, passionate , enthusiastic, workaholic
.
All three Black brothers had taken the rundown, three-storey warehouse their parents had put their life savings into and converted it into a nightclub with two function rooms, the Garden Café and top-level living quarters. But, instead of celebrating the feat together as a family, with their parents supporting their dream of owning and running their own nightclub, a drunk driver had plowed into their parents’car and instantly killed them.
.
But never deflated from their aim to be successful ..
The story starts with a VIP AUCTION for charity at Black Pearl . With the help of the two younger Black brothers Aiden and Liam , Layla who desperately wanted the attention of Gallan , participated in the auction for SIDS charity ...
Gallan who already has eyes for the beautiful and hardworking Layla , gets frozen on seeing that conservative Layla on the stage walking in nothing but Heart-shaped pasties that barely covered the nipples of her bared beautiful breasts, her waist-length, dark hair fell like a curtain around her exquisite body , where a short peacock feather skirt with feathered train. The suited men around him went ballistic with their bidding. As a surge of something primal and totally foreign rose up from within, he raised a bidding paddle and named a price that sent the room deathly quiet. One hundred thousand dollars. From here their journey begins . Both have certain issues , Layla with her trust issues and Gallan with his commitment issues . Despite of this they both are compatible in and out of bed. The book has quite a no of steamy sex scenes 😍🙈the story is mindblowing .you will get to know the one secret he has witholded from his brothers at the end . To know how they dealt with their own issues , secrets and the misunderstandings between them ,you have to read it by yourselves.
.
I truly loved the book .. it was utterly butterly delicious . Am still fanning myself 😍.the best part of the book was how Gallan and Layla enjoyed themselves on the beach .how they shared the laughter ,their time together. I truly appreciate the relationship the siblings shared and how they played cupid in Gallan and Layla's story.
I give it 9/10
I deducted 1 bcoz i so wanted an epilogue😣

Go and buy your own copy 😍😋

There was something about this book that had my attention from the start. Maybe it was the fact that Galan and Layla were both lost souls, not really looking for love but it sought them out in spite of themselves. Their story lines are both deep separate but alike in ways that connected in many levels. I always know when I see author Mel Teshco's name that I am going to get a book that has heat down deep to the soul and when I finish it I will always want to re-visit it at a later date. And she did gave me a book did check all the boxes and more. I look forward to the next box in this series with baited breath or should i say auction paddle.

Galen Black is fascinated with making money. He was at the Black pearl Nightclub that he and his brothers owned. His biggest concern tonight was keep the Blacl Pearl at capacity while the once yearly annual auction was held in one of the two functions rooms went off without a hitch. He dragged his mind from the one woman who irritated and turned him on in equal measures and focused back to the business at hand. Noone could have foreseen that the charity auction held for the first time five years ago would turn into the biggest drawcard fro galen and his brothers Aiden and Liam. VIP guests from sheikhs to billionaire real estate mongols and famous celebrities paid months in advance for the exorbitant tickets. Galen and his brothers learned the more costly the price of admission the bigger the fish the auction attracted. And the more women the auction attracted. It was Aiden who vetted the ladies that came from all over Australia and further afield to support their favorite charity and potentially be seen with someone rich or famous for a night. Silence Galen never took for granted . it was something to be prized, valued. His parents had died when a drunk driver hit them eighteen years ago. It also killed their parents secret, one gracen had to live with alone every day. But he’d made a promise to keep the confession, and it was one he didn’t plan on breaking. He was glad the once yearly auction brought him and his two brothers close together. The entry fee of the exorbitantly priced tickets went to the families who suffered loss or hardship at the hands of a drunk driver. Galen had become adept at shielding his bleakest thoughts from his brothers. Galen was intrigued with Layla who his her body unlike the other barmaids who flaunted their body to earn big tips. Layla wasn’t even his type. Galen was comforted by Layla ‘s choice of clothing although he didn’t like thinking about that. Sex for him had only been a physical release. He’d never really experienced a deep emotional connection with anyone since his parents death. He was disconnected from everyone around him, his emotions firmly packed away. His growing obsession with Layla was nothing more than his need for a challenge. Layla was definitely one woman who defied him at every turn. Galen hated subterfuge. He liked to be in control. It was less likely for things to go wrong. Than layla came on the stage to be bid on . Galen was determined to win Layla for the night and hoped she wanted more from him than stimulating conversation. Layla’s family had dirty little secrets. Layla had spent her life striving not to be like her mother , who had Layla at sixteen and who now at thirty four still commanded top-dollar performing at the Sydney strip club where she worked. Layla had striven just as hard not to be like her oversexed father. He screwed women on a weekly basis, far more than he ever bedded his highly desirable wife. Layla thought she couldn’t lose Galen’s attention now that she finally had it. Maybe she was like her mother after all. He was tellingly furious and aroused.
I loved this book. A great sexy romance. Two soulmates afraid to believe what they had found with each other. I loved Galen and layla together and how they interacted. They had such hot chemistry. I loved the plot and the pace. I did n’t want to put this book down. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

This was a fast read. It was two people who were damaged by their own parents’ relationships and family secrets. So, with that, they too carried their own secrets. One thing they couldn’t hide at least to those close to them was their lust for one another.
You need to know you will be finding a very sexually active couple. But as far as the characters will allow us to know. Are having sex only with each other. Although if you talk to Galan commitment is not his thing.
Come on the man is thirty-seven when is that going to start? When AARP starts. He wants to be with Layla at least all his action and most of his word say it. But then he tries thinking. Which put in the wrong hands could be dangerous. As Galan so many times proves. Because when he thinks crazy sometimes mean things come out of his mouth.
His reality check arrives when Layla has a come to Jesus moment with her Dad and he tries (Tries being the operative word here,) to calm her down. She turns on him for siding with her dad. For what she believes is him siding with her father’s infidelity. Yeah, his up close and personal focus of his womanizing makes him think.
Was Galan immature in his actions while still being an Alpha? Hell, yeah! But he was a kid, only nineteen so yeah, when his parents died. Caring for two brothers, a family secret, and gossip over the way they died. While still trying to fulfill the family dream of opening the night club, with a restaurant, and a reception hall.
As far as Layla, she way to serious for her age of twenty-three. But with her family and the grief, she suffered alone, not so much. She was a child raising herself with two effed up parents right in front of her yet she might as well have been invisible. So, she learned to become a master of disguises to hide in plain sight. Except from, Galan who loved watching her. Yet, had no clue she had the biggest crush on him. He just needs a wakeup call.
Totally enjoyed this read. I give this: 4 stars.

I don't know why I like the auction trope so much, but I do. Whether it's the sweet; the ladies bring picnic baskets filled with their homemade specialties for a picnic lunch with the guy who places the highest bid and ends with a sweet relationship or the spicy hot where the ladies go with the highest bidder for an evening of... you can guess ...that ends with a hot relationship, I just really enjoy this trope.

In this story Galan Black works with his two brothers who own the Black Pearl Nightclub. Galan is the ultimate commitment-phobe until he hires Layla Selvey. At the club's yearly charity auction where the rich gather to bid on an evening with a beautiful lady Galan is shocked to see the always very conservatively dressed Layla on the stage wearing nothing much, pasties and a very short skirt made of peacock feathers with a feather train. Who knew Layla was hiding an absolutely gorgeous body under those conservative clothes. The men in the audience are going wild with bids. Galan has had Layla on his mind for six months, ever since he hired her as a waitress/bartender for the club. No one else was going to win an evening with Layla but him! Guess how much he bid. Mr. Commitment-Phobe Black has met his match.

Highest Bid by Mel Teshco is the first book in her Bachelor Brothers of Sydney series. This is a fun first book in the series. There are scenes that will make you chuckle and there are serious times too. I was fascinated with the author's path for Layla and Galan to find happiness. Both these characters are complicated but interesting and I must say the sex scenes are scorching. Mel Teshco is a new author to me but I am glad I discovered her. I look forward to the stories of Galan's brothers.

HIGHEST BID is a sexy, intense romance that begins the Bachelor Brothers of Sydney series. I will say up front that if you don’t enjoy a sensuous love story with sizzling sex scenes then this one might not be for you, that’s something only you can decide.

Both Layla and Galan have some serious issues to deal with in their story, issues that may keep them apart or bind them together if they take the risk of trusting someone with their secrets, themselves completely. There is a bit of world-building, there has to be in any series, yet this story starts off with an intense feeling that kept me turning pages. Yes, there were times when I’d have loved to sit them both down for a stern talking to. But given their backgrounds and the secrets they are both keeping perhaps some stubbornness and misunderstandings are to be expected.

A quick read, HIGHEST BID did what it was supposed to. Laid the groundwork for the rest of the series, gave me two intense, stubborn people who faced a few reality checks in their journey to a couple. And two more brothers to discover their side of what happened to their family and hopefully find their own lady to love for a lifetime.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Overall Opinion:
Sex, sex, sex. That pretty much sums this entire book. Let's be honest, the relationship between Layla and Galan was a complete joke and the instant love component to this erotica was almost too much to bare. I'm not going to lie, I was slightly intrigued at first when Galan discovered that Layla pretended to be the ugly ducky before blowing him out of the water during a charity auction event where she revealed her true colors. Then suddenly wham! Bam! I love and want you in my life after what… 1 week of endless sex and and barely there conversations? Nevertheless, the writing style wasn't too cringe-worthy so I'll give the author kudos for that and if you're a reader looking for a quick erotica then look no further then this would be ideal.

He was her boss and should have been off limits. But she couldn’t get him out her mind.

Galan Black, who owned the Black Pearl Nightclub with his brothers Aiden and Liam, had become obsessed with his new employee Layla Selvey. She was far from his type, but there was something about her that intrigued him. Then she came out on the stage of the Black Pearl's charity auction, wearing next to nothing, and took Galan's breath away. He had to have her. Let the bidding begin.

Layla had been working for a Galan for six months and had constantly fantasized about him. The charity auction was a way to get him to notice her. And notice her, he did. His winning be was one hundred thousand dollars. One night with Galan would not be enough. Layla wanted the whole package and wanted it forever.

This book might have been shorter than I expected, but it was packed with action, emotion and explosive intimate scenes. Layla and Galan were both basically broken characters, having lived through things no child should, but it made them stronger and provided an interesting background to the story. I enjoyed the way the author told the story. The book held my interest through the entire story. I can't wait to read the books following this one so I can find out more about Galan’s brothers and the women they fall in love with.

ARC kindly provided via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

This book started off interesting in that the couple had known each other for 6 months. We only hear how they interacted in the beginning during this timeframe but not with any specific moments. This means Galan and Layla didn't technically experience insta-love but the story opens with them after an auction in which Galan bids on Layla whom he's been attracted to for awhile. I liked that the story had alternating POV's and we got a little more insight to how each character felt about the other.

Galan and Layla each had pasts that they had to overcome which is what drove most of the book. There was also a bit of family drama from Layla's side then towards the end the author throws in a twist that was unexpected. I felt it was a little rushed and if this twist had happened earlier it might have given more depth to the book.

There were quite a few bedroom scenes and this author can definitely write them. IMO there were a few more than I prefer but if you like these types of scenes then you'll love this book. Overall I gave it 3-4 stars in that there was some good writing but some topics weren't as developed as they could've been.

Mel Teshco writes very sexy, steamy stories with Highest Bid being no different. Layla has worked for Galan Black for six months. However, after a charity auction they are an item. The auction is supposed to be all above board with a date afterwards but it is clear that Galan has more in mind. It is well-written with likable characters, who I would have like to see developed more in depth, which was done in her book, As I Am.

A secret from the grave is the intriguing factor in this story. Family especially parents is shown as the influence on the two main characters. It seems the children must deal with the fall-out of their parents’ actions. The building of the relationship and the community of workers along with Galan’s brothers is something I would have liked to have seen more. The physical aspect of their relationship takes center stage in this story. Layal askes, “Has sex always been the answer to all your problems?” Galan’s answer, “I can’t think of a better way to erase the dark thoughts inside me, can you?”. However, that doesn’t make the problems go away.

3.5 Stars

An unapologetic player and a reserved wallflower… one night would never be enough

That's the blurb but I'm not sure I'd describe Layla as a wallflower given how you first meet her in the book! She does have good reasons for being cautious around men. However, she choses to do something outrageous to get the attention of Galen, who she's physically attracted to but has had next to no time to get to know - that wasn't convincing to me at all. It seemed way too out of her supposed character for me.

Galen has his reasons for being a player and not wanting to settle for one woman, with the family secret he's keeping. This I found much more convincing, once I found out the family secret right towards the end of the book. He's all for sleeping with Layla, and gradually comes to care for her, that I found that more convincing.

The story flows well, but I preferred Galen to Layla.

This year shouldn't be in different for Galan he thinks. Layla comes from a dysfunctional family where the father is a heavy drinker and her mom is a stripper but they seem to stick it out. But it has made Layla take a step back in relationships and being herself. Galan finds Layla a thorn in his side because he can't get her off his mind. When he finds her part of the auction to be auctioned off he knows what he wants.

Steamy Read.
Due to her family background Layla likes to ‘hide in plain sight’ and downplays her bodily assets (though I do think non-prescription glasses is going a bit too far). In order to get player boss Galen Black to notice her, she enters a charity auction half naked, which certainly gets his attention! There is a lot of lust and sex in this book but I am not sure what else they had in common other than attractive bodies and chemistry. They go from being boss and employee to engaged within 2-3 weeks.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The highest bid is a boss employee romance between the eldest Black brother Galen and bartender waitress Layla. Layla started for the Black brothers night club but didn’t dress like the other scantily clad women and has had Galen’s attention the whole time. When she comes up in auction he can’t let her go.

These two have insane chemistry but serious trust issues. He’s a confirmed bachelor who has a revolving door of women and she had a crazy childhood that makes for a shaky ground when it comes to trusting.

All in all it’s a good book and I enjoyed it.

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
The book started of very well and then it just started to go downhill and I lost interest toward the end. Layla wanted Galan badly and she was prepare to do everything to get him. She does. He wants her and a relationship with her. She starts pushing him away because she doesn't trust Men. Very contradictory. A lot of good sex scenes though.
The opinions expressed here are all mine.

Galen owns a nightclub with is two brothers, they hold a yearly auction to spend an evening with a beautiful woman. Galen is shocked to see Layla on stage, a plain-jane waitress he hired at the club but can’t seem to get her out of his mind. He won’t let this opportunity to be with Layla slip through is fingers but will one night be enough? This is a fast-paced read with plenty of drama and steam. The story is entertaining and steamy. Looking forward to more in the series!

I feel like I got whiplash from this story. One second someone is mad and/or overreacting, the next they are sweet to each other. This goes for the main characters and secondary characters alike. The dialogue seems stilted and it made me feel embarrassed for the characters who had to hear them speak. This just didn't do it for me.

An interesting tale about learning to get along with others. Whether it’s coworkers, brothers, parents, and boyfriend/girlfriend, it can often be challenging learning what is really important versus what you want. There’s plenty of drama in this book along with romance. Sometimes the story seemed to lag a bit and lost my way. Overall a pretty good story.
