A murder has been committed. Clues found by constructing a jigsaw puzzle and delving through a large number of library books let Cy and Lou know where they can find the body and who the murderer is. Sort of. The victim can be found in one of about seventy houses and they have only the first name of the murderer. Well, it’s one of eight first names. They knock on doors with hilarious results until they finally find one house that smells worse than the others. Once they find and identify the victim, Sam is able to provide eight last names to go with those first names. Once they question those eight people, they find they have six people who were ready to push each other out of the way to be the first to shoot the victim, one who seems to like the person, and one who seems hardly to know the person. It’s time to use everything they know and each clue and message they are given to deduce which of the eight is the murderer.
This is one of the most unusual mysteries i have ever read. Truly, i had no idea who did it or how the jigsaw puzzle would tie into solving the mystery. Rarely has there ever been a victim more hated. Bravo, Mr. Demaree! Now your public is eager for more. 😎
Another fantastic cosy mystery from the pen of Steve Demaree and one of my favourite Cy Dekker stories. As always, the characters are well written, the plot moves at a steady pace and the humour runs throughout the story. Highly recommended.
Just finished the latest Dekker Mystery and it was most enjoyable (as usual). I didn't solve the murder and the ending was a surprise... (I thought that it was the UPS driver?). I do miss Helouise though, as she and Cy always made for humorous conversation... Perhaps she and Twinkle Toes will be resurrected in a future Cozy Mystery?
This book was just as good as all the previous ones. The jokes made the book fun. However you could never doubt their seriousness to seek justice. I hope there are more being written. There are very few books i read twice but this series i will definitely read again.
A Puzzling Murder is the 17th in the ongoing saga of Lt. Cy Decker & Sgt. Lou Murdock. Like most of the books, there are a multitude of clues & suspects, & the fin sa l clues are kept secret in order to spring the surprise perpetrator in the last few pages. It works. Waiting for #18.
The Dekker Cozy Mystery Series is written with a lot of humor and are interesting stories. The author keeps you in suspense until the last minute to reveal the murderer. This book was very puzzling in that it had so many clues that they were sometimes hard to follow.
This doesn't gets old. Love the characters, the humor & the twist to this puzzling mystery. End too soon for me but will happily impatiently wait for the next good mystery.
Another 5 star book by Steve Demaree! I've read all of the Dekker books and, like the rest of the series, this book did not disappoint. I always enjoy Cy and Lou and their wit and humor. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
Well, I didn't see that coming! When the murderer was revealed, it definitely took me by surprise because I was sure it was someone else. Other than the mix up of the vehicle the main characters used in one of the chapters, a good read!
Steve Demaree is a very creative writer. I enjoy his Cy Dekker series, even more now that his neighbor is gone. A creative way to write a mystery story.
Did not disappoint. Always a great story! Wonderful characters and interesting plot twists. I never expected the ending. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!
