Covington Billionaires #10

Undercover Billionaire

Rate this book
The undercover assignment sounded simple, until I learned who I’d be protecting.
Kelly:

The note froze my blood. It threatened to make me the next to die if I didn’t cooperate. When I asked for protection, I had no idea the FBI would send a Cartwright, one of my family’s mortal enemies, to be my bodyguard.

The Cartwrights have been at war with us forever. The plan is he’ll pretend to be my boyfriend. No, that won’t be awkward at all. My family would kill me if they found out.

It turns out the man I’m sharing my house with isn’t the monster I expected. I shouldn’t be falling for Adam, yet the more time I spend with him, the stronger his pull becomes.

How can I possibly choose between Adam and my family?

Adam:
With a ton of zeros on my bank balance, I joined the Bureau to make a difference, not a living.

When we learn of the latest threat from, SMK, the Smithsonian Museum Killer, catching him becomes a top priority in the office. I get assigned as undercover protection. The surprise comes when I learn her name: Kelly Benson.

The Hatfields and the McCoys were on better terms than our two families. Years ago, her brother ruined my future, and now I’m tasked to keep his little sister safe. Life isn’t fair.

Uncomfortable revelations from our pasts soon complicate everything. Before long, I only know one thing for sure. I don’t want this assignment to end.

Forced into close quarters and constant contact, mutual attraction soon ignites. The two must reexamine what they’ve believed for years about each other. When old truths are questioned, family dynamics become as volatile as the killer stalking Kelly.

Why romance? Because we all need a chance to escape doing the next load of laundry.

We deserve a chance to enjoy love, laughs, and intrigue, and yes, fear, heartbreak, and tears, all without having to leave the house.

If you can read my books without feeling all of these then I haven’t done my job right.

Adam has a lot of money, but he still becomes part of the FBI because he wants to make a difference in the world. Kelly is in trouble, and reaches out to said FBI & ends up with Adam as her protector. There's a big problem though, he has to play her pretend boyfriend, and their families are mortal enemies. See, her brother ruined Adam's future, so he's not exactly happy to protect that man's sister. Seriously though, Keilly has become a target for the SMK (Smithsonian Museum Killer), so there are little choices left to them. The sparks are flying as the chemistry is undeniable, but these two spend more & more time together, truths that they thought they knew are being revealed as false which confuses everything. I LOVED every minute of this story since there was romance & a suspenseful plot that had the twists coming from every direction! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Adam and Kelly

So…overall a good story. I do recommend reading these in order.

Kelly Benson has received some disturbing info at work and may be in danger. She utilizes her family connections and before long, Adam is her security. While watching after her, he is also trying to uncover the criminals behind the act.

Adam, working for the FBI, has been put on assignment to watch over someone. To babysit. To babysit none other than the precious, spoiled, Benson girl. He hates the Benson family but work comes first.

The storylines are great. Very entertaining with lots of twists and turns keeping you flipping the pages. But…Kelly drove me up the wall. Good grief..would she listen to anyone? I felt sorry for Adam as he had to learn everything he once knew was wrong. He was the bigger man and dealt with it vs making excuses. Still a good read.

There was a bit of Romeo and Juliet flavor to this story. Kelly was an auditor working in Washington DC and when she received threatening messages, Adam, a FBI agent, was assigned to protect her. Kelly was a Benson and Adam was a Cartwright. Both their families had a history of animosity. Therefore, Kelly and Adam started with preconceived notions of each other but with time spent together, grew close and developed feelings for each other. The story had the element of suspense as Kelly’s life was in danger if she did not follow through with instructions from the mysterious person. The story ended quite abruptly and I also felt that they overcame their families’ differences quite easily. However, it was still an enjoyable read.

Great!

I really enjoy this story. I chose this rating because this is actually a really great book and very interesting. I enjoyed most all of the characters. This was a book of determination, compassion, having the ability to think about others besides yourself, and falling in love. I really enjoyed Adam and Kelly story. I think they really made an interesting couple I think the author did an amazing job and putting these two characters together. They both had there mind set on doing or thinking they were doing the right thing. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers.

She is being targeted by a killer and the last person she expected to become her bodyguard, pretend boyfriend. Their families are mortal enemies which is not going to go down with either family if it is found out. The more time they spend together, the closer they become. Who is after her? Why? Can he keep her safe? See where you are taken

I wasn't sure about this story, the characters didn't connect with me the reader, Adam blew hot and cold. Kelly just walked a very rigid line and was very straight laced and snooty. They two together for me didn't work. The main story was interesting and kept me reading on. The family feud was a great irritation. But it was well written so 4 stars will I read more in this series, I'm not sure.

It was ok. FBI guy is apparently secretly a billionaire but you would never know it. Kelly is the girl in need of protection. I don’t know, the story is pretty preposterous, but it was ok. I liked Adam , although I have no idea what he got the medal of valour for, unless you get them for killing people. I thought the FBI frowned upon that sort of thing, but no sooner does he shoot two suspects than he gets the medal. But anyway, all the ridiculousness aside, it’s ok.

This novel had a lot of good moments, a lot of sweet moments, and a lot of amazing moments that just brought a warm smile to my face; however, there were the times were it would lull and I would think about placing it down in favor of another, but in the end I'm glad I stuck it out and finished it.

Family versus love

The theme was great. The plot moved along and maintained interest until the end. I would’ve liked more depth into resolving the
Benson and Cartwright patriarchs’ feud.

Good enough book. The will they won't they between Adam & Kelly dragged out too much but when they did they certainly did ! The overuse of Adam calling Kelly "Sugarbear" was a bit silly.

Loved Kelly!

Adam went undercover as Kelly's boyfriend to catch a killer. I really loved the chemistry! Family histories pitted one Family against the other. Love triumphs over all.
Thank you Ms. Swann for another great story.

No one knows how the feud got started. Well, no one is telling if they do. The Cartwrights and the Benson's have a hate-hate relationship and it's not getting any better. Kelly has a bad feeling, her friend and co-worker disappeared and died a violent death and the person before. Her friend was able to let her know about the NOTE, When she gets one she knows she has to do something but is scared and since she has a relative in the FBI, she gets hold of Ashley for help. Help comes in the form of a Cartwright, He is cute for sure but a Cartwright, oh no no no-no-no.
Adam of course when he finds out that Kelly is a Benson, he didn't know which was worse babysitting her or all night stakeouts and no sleep. He is about to find out. I cannot tell you much more without doing a spoiler. Let's just say the fireworks are about to start. You will love this book. It is full of twists and turns and all kinds of surprises.

Two feuding patriarchs, a younger generation carrying on the feud without knowing the full story, and a man & woman from opposing sides getting a Happily Ever After ending. What’s not to love....perhaps a peek at the couple going forward?????

"Undercover" - more ways than one!

Adam, an FBI agent assigned to protect one of his arch enemy family members. Having a gorgeous body & an attitude that challenges his every command, Adam's thoughts go south. He discovers truths along the way & realizes where the blame is misplaced. Apologies are needed but facing both sets of parents is something they can't avoid much longer if Kelly & Adam want to see where their relationship goes. Throw in a few unsolved secret cases for Adam, this story raises the level of suspense, danger & the adrenaline rush is intensified.

What a page turner! This book turned out to be a "I can't put this book down!" Kelly & Adam beat the odds of staying together despite family hatred for a number of years. Some of the characters & snippets of story-line is intertwined with previous novels written in this series but this story can be read as a standalone. I recommend this reading this novel, as well as the other previous novels. All are excellent novels!

I enjoyed this book because it was focused more on the story rather than just explicit sex. It spent quite a bit of time on a couple of side stories that didn’t get resolved which was annoying. There were two times the author used the name Dennis when it should have been Adam. There was only one other typo that I saw which was nice as some of these romances seem like they don’t proofread them at all.

SPOILER
A bit too much of a coincidence that Adam is there when the SMK is revealed. And it made Adam look dumb that he couldn’t see Debi was obviously trying to tip off the cops/FBI when she spit and looked right into the camera at the bank.
