A deadly storm has arrived. Something much deadlier lurks behind the winds. Two women are already dead.
DI Phil Morris finds himself at the heart of a harrowing murder case. When a third woman disappears, the search is geared up with all eyes on a man with a violent past.
As the clues begin to pour in, each one posing more questions than answers, Phil finds someone close to him in the midst of danger. A heart pounding thriller from the murky pits of Glasgow, Phil Morris will face his most challenging case yet.
From the imagination that brought you 'In the Wake of Death,' and 'Fractured,' this brand new addition to the Phil Morris series will chill you to the bone.
Billy McLaughlin is a 38 year old writer from Glasgow who has published four novels in the crime genre.
The first is Invisible, a novelette about a woman who hides the true nature of her private life from a colleague that she's befriended. However, he delves in further under the belief that he can help her with horrible consequences.
The second of his books, and the first in the DI Morris series, tells the story of a young woman who has lost her way and ends up on the streets. As her life continues to break under the rubble, she finds herself at the heart of a murder where she's the obvious suspect.
In the Wake of Death picks up six months after the events of Lost Girl where DI Morris is caught up in a mystery of a more personal nature. When Marc Adams, the brother of an old flame, is left for dead it is up to Morris to get to the bottom of the crime. However, something darker lies beneath the surface.
In March 2017 McLaughlin released The Dead of Winter, a 40k crime novella that tells the story of two missing children, one a baby and one the teenager next door. The ugly truth of a middle class community on the edge of Glasgow reveals how these people react to the crime and how they'll protect their own at any cost.
McLaughlin is working on the third DI Morris book The Daughter which will see a 2017 release.
This new to me author’s 4th book in his series can 100% be read as a stand alone, snippets of past events in the first 3 books are given, enough to want me to read them!
There is a serial killer on the loose However this one is even more mystifying than most, he abducts them and then kills them BUT seemingly without ever touching them aside from branding them when they are dead He needs catching, he intends to take his tally to 4 and he cant wait Enter D.I. Phil Morris who is tasked in stopping him and the book shows via police procedure AND seemingly unconnected events how this is going to happen.....or not happen! There is a good mix of other characters in the story, some likeable, some not and one who is suffering PTSD after a previous assault and the narrative she gives in coping with the minute by minute stress of living with what happened to her is intense and harrowing, and also very well written The story has many twists and turns and in style reaches the ‘who is the baddie’ in quite a shocking way, it had me fooled A good solid read, I would definitely read note from this author and enjoyed his writing style and obvious research into things he covered in this story 9/10
Billy McLaughlin certainly knows how to write a psychological thriller...all of the elements are there in this 5 star read - edge-of-your-seat, unexpected twists, pace and a satisfying conclusion. He has created a great character in DI Phil Morris and I hope we will be seeing a lot more of him and his team. Great Scottish fiction.
Another fast-paced book from Billy McLaughlin, full of action and twists that will keep you guessing who the killer is to the end. Someone is determined to kill four women - and we are plonked right in the middle of the action as the second woman is captured.
The story hooks you in from the start, as the fiercest storm of the year is about to hit Scotland. The empty streets, the squalls of rain, the cold, gusting wind, all add to the terror surrounding the victim, keeping you turning the pages.
A great story, with DI Phil Morris set to face his toughest case yet! I highly recommend the whole series, each one is a great read.
This is a very well crafted crime thriller. It is the fourth in the DI Phil Morris series, and he and his sidekick Donna are stretched to the limit trying to solve the murders of two young women who appear to have been murdered by the same person. They need to track him down before he kills again. Phil’s fiancée Kate features once more. Interesting characters and red herrings abound. I guarantee you won’t want to put this down.
I've read and enjoyed other books by this author, so I knew I was in for a cracking psychological crime thriller/mystery, and wasn't disappointed. The lead detective is Glasgow cop, DI Morris. Two women are dead, and a serial killer of vulnerable women must be stopped before anyone else becomes a victim, so the pressure and tension escalate. Good storytelling kept me turning the pages, and I was a good way into the story before I thought I had an idea who the killer might be. Characters are well drawn and believable, and there are good twists and turns to ramp up the mystery. If you like quality crime mystery, then this one is highly recommended.
Crime has been one of the most popular genres for many decades, to the point where surely all the crime stories that can be told have been told. Then along comes Four; a fast-paced story almost impossible to put down. Four is made all the stronger by marvellous characters, the protagonists and especially the antagonist. I've read many of Billy's stories over the past few years, and all have been excellent, including Four. Read Four; you will not be disappointed.
Having read all of the Phil Morris series I couldn't wait to read this. And it didn't disappoint three quarters of the way through before I guessed who the killer might be . Only thing I'm left wondering what happens to Rochelle and Danny .or is this another book in the offing ,hope so. Another great read by Billy McLaughlin .
Having previously read Billy's work, I was hoping Four would be up to scratch.I was happy to discover it was...and more! A part of a series, which can be read alone, but, I am sure you will want to read the others to find out the back story, it is that interesting. I would easily recommend this book to anyone who loves excellent writing and an excellent story
Another five stars for Billy! Well written as usual with twists and turns abound. Took me a while to figure out the bad guy 👦 but got there and finally understood why there were 'four'.
Fantastic story line, great characters, had me hooked from the first page. Amazing descriptives, making me feel i was actually in the middle of storm Maggie! Edge of the seat ending and the author's best book yet!
