Deadly Betrayal

Rate this book
A dangerous stalker is the least of Rockford Security's most sought after bodyguard's problems when he accepts a job that dredges up unsettling memories of his past.

Bizarre message and hangup calls are par for the course for a country star like Jan Winters, but when a devious stalker gets too close, Jan's producer hires Las Vegas' best personal protection - Dino Machiavelli. Despite the threats to her safety, Jan doesn't want a babysitter and especially not one with whom she has a tumultuous past.

What should have been an easy job for Dino turns dangerous when the stalker's activity escalates proving that the threat could be deadly. Dino and Jan must work closely to uncover the identity of the stalker, but as the spark between them flares, so does uncertainty. Someone close to Jan is telling lies and they don't know who they can trust, maybe not even each other.

Just as Dino thinks he has his man, a sinister twist proves that things are never as they seem and one simple mistake could cause him to lose everything.

This book was extremely good. I received this book as an ARC from the Author! It was about some teenagers trying to get along with each other but they listen to too many other people and they break up because of rumors that other teenagers are talking about.

January and Dino were confused teens who broke up before they finished High School. Jan listened to all the Cheerleaders who told her that Dino was having an affair with Erin the lead cheerleader. So Jan broke up with him, even though she loved him. He was beside himself because he did not understand why she stopped seeing him.

Jan's father died shortly after she broke Dino's heart. She in the last 15 years after High School became a well known Country Singer and now she was making a lot of money. She was being stalked by someone. Her manager wanted her to get a bodyguard. It just turned out that Blake one of Dino's best Friends from High School was the owner of Rockford Investigations and Dino worked for him. So when Blake Got the request for the bodyguard, he called his best investigator for the job.

Dino was not happy with doing the job, but being the best he took the job. He still loves Jan and would take her back in a minute.

The story has a lot of twists and turns and is well written and should be read. It kept me interested and I would recommend it to all my family and friends. I can't wait for the next one!

Deadly Betrayal was a thrilling 5 star read.
Romance, Hot Alpha, Hot Country singer, Suspense

“I thought I was your best friend.” “You were, until you left.”

January Winters is a famous country singer that has someone stalking her. As things escalate her manager hires her a bodyguard. Enter, Dino a man Jan dated 15 years ago in high school. He broke her heart and left some unanswered questions.

Dino has been assigned to guard a country singer who he discovers is a girl that broke his heart 15 years ago. He still doesn’t know why she broke up with him. As they work together the connection between them starts to grow once again. Will Dino finally find out why she left him? Can he resist his feelings for her?

The stalker seems to be getting even braver with leaving items for Jan. Pictures are also being taken of Dino and Jan that are being leaked to the tabloids. The other things that Jan is getting from her stalker are things that people close to her would only have access to. Who is doing this to Jan and why?

Jan was his other half, his prodigal heart, missing for fifteen years and now returned. And he’d do anything, anything at all, to protect her.

What a great read. I did not see the twist coming and I definitely had the wrong person in mind. Wow. I was really pulled in by the story and couldn’t put it down. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. I really enjoyed this suspenseful and thrilling read. We get to see a HEA with no cliffhanger, however I’m curious to see what happens to Jan’s cousin. Thank you for a great read. 1-click and get started today on the Rockford Security series.

What Worked For Me:
Lee Anne Jones is a new author for me and she didn’t disappoint. Deadly Betrayal was an entertaining read that kept me guessing from start to finish and gave me warm-fuzzies all over when I was done. Our heroine, January, is a famous singer who has reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Dino, when he is hired to be her bodyguard after she learns she has a stalker. She is shocked to see him and the author wrote this character so well, I felt her emotions when it came to Dino. Dino has never gotten over Jan after she dumped him in high school and while he is aware of who she is before he starts his bodyguard assignment, he is still overcome with feelings when he sees her face to face for the first time in 15 years. This couple has issues to deal with personally while dealing with a nasty stalker, who just keeps causing problems for the star-crossed lovers. I normally like my books on the dirtier side but there was a sweetness to this books simplicity that I can’t deny worked extremely well for these two, and when they do finally come together for the first time….which was raw and beautiful, it felt very real. Deadly Betrayal is fast-paced and keeps you engaged from the first sentence to the very last and introduces secondary characters that I can’t wait to read about in future books. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading other books by Ms. Jones.

What Didn’t Work For Me:
Perfectly written and no issues.

Would I Recommend This Book:
Yes

Romantic Suspense, this one fills the need of romance readers and intrigue/mystery readers as well. High school sweethearts, with parental issues are forced back together. Fifteen years and January more than fulfilled her dream for a country music career, however Dino's football future had been smashed along with his knee. Forced together again when a possible stalker threatens the woman he can't forget, and his boss refuses to assign someone else as bodyguard.

Dino didn't know why she ended their relationship and she had allowed her own issues to end them. Now she has to to see him every day. What began as some emails and hangups quickly develops into much more. His doubt that she is really in danger soon becomes fear for her safety. None of his efforts those of his top notch security firm seem to be able to find and stop the threats.

A mystery buff I have pretty good odds in figuring out the guilty party. This time it took almost to the end, and I wasn't positive until all was revealed. How is the stalker able to play on both of their long standing issues? And what about the knowledge of her work? Nothing seems to add up or at least to any one person.

Can they go back to that place that ended so abruptly and take up as adults to a mature relationship? Will the stalker draw them closer or farther apart? Enjoy the read finding out.

Teenager January "Jan" Winters walked away from her boyfriend Dino Machiavelli fifteen years ago after she was told he had cheated on her. She wasn't surprised, she always knew he was too good for her.
She's now a rising country music star with a new album just about to be released.
The only fly in the ointment is that she's picked up a stalker, one who knows too far much about her.
A bodyguard is needed and who better than, wait for it ... (drumroll!) the devastatingly attractive Dino.
At least she's over him and vice versa. Nope, not a chance, we've got pulses racing from the start.
"... that one special girl that broke his heart. The one that still made Dino’s chest ache even fifteen years later."
"... Dino Machiavelli. The name brought on a flood of painful emotion, which she pushed away. That had been fifteen years ago. She was over it. Over him."
From the start it is a case of stolen kisses, confused longing, misunderstandings, remembered heartbreak, elevated heartbeats, and a lot of what might have been.
"Deadly Betrayal" is well written, has a decent, though very familar, plot, and hits the right notes. The only problem with it is that it has been done many times before by hundreds of authors. There is really nothing about it that lifts it above the rest.

I LOVE L.A. Dobbs! I read this as part of an ARC review. The plot was surprising, and interesting. The story was a bit amateurish. Dobbs has published this series before under other pen names. I think this story can do well as a republished first in a series. But it needs a refresh first. It lacks the polish I am used to in Dobbs other works. The female main character is supposedly a strong woman who is proud of her independence. However, she often comes across as whiny and naive. I found the conflict very distracting while reading. I pray I get to read the rest of the series, so I can see how things turn out for the rest of the Rockwell clan.

Really, really good!

The story starts with Dino. When there’s no other way, Dino uses his fists against bullies. I don’t approve of violence, but I still immediately liked Dino because his heart’s in the right place.

Then we have Jan. Successful singer. With a stalker. And: she’s Dino’s ex. The one who broke his heart. I really liked Jan. Soft, kind, shy. Not a diva at all.

When Dino becomes Jan’s bodyguard, they have to find a way to deal with each other once again. And Jan isn’t even convinced she needs a bodyguard, as she’s so used to dealing with everything on her own. And Dino doesn’t take it seriously enough at the start as well and allows himself to get distracted.

A very well written book. Dobbs shows some serious skill with words. It was so suspenseful I couldn’t read it just before going to bed, for fear of nightmares; it was that good! I suspected everyone. First I suspected one, then another, then another: meaning I just didn’t know! And it was romantic as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it! And it had a good epilogue where everything is explained well and followed up.

Dino Machiavelli works for his childhood friend, Blake Rockford, at the Rockford Agency, a family owned business. Dino was raised by an abusive father and thinks the way to settle arguments is with his fists. After his latest escapade, Blake has no where to put Dino but on a bodyguard job. Imagine Dino's surprise when he discovers the person he is protecting is his childhood sweetheart, January Winters. January is now a very successful country singer who seems to have attracted a stalker. L.A. Dobbs keeps you guessing until the end. Just when you think you have it figured out, something happens to change your mind. Both Dino and January want what the Rockford family has -- a tight knit family of siblings who are truly loved by their parents. After January's uncle was violently shot and killed, the only family she has is her cousin, Stacy, who cannot seem to stay out of the drugs, gambling and an affiliation with Vinnie Matusa, a known mobster. Who is January's stalker? Can Dino save her in time?
A very well-written love story. A must read!

I was given an advanced copy for an honest review.
Dino is "being punished" by his boss and given a bodyguard job. Theses are the jobs he hates most of all. Imagine his surprise, when he finds out the client is his old high school flame, who broke his heart.
January is a country star, that suddenly has a stalker. She likes to handle things on her own. Her manager seem thrilled with the idea of a stalker and thinks of the publicity. However, her manager hire a bodyguard for her. Imagine her chagrin, when it's her old high school flame, who broke her heart.
When Dino and January get together, there is a lot of hurt, but Dino is trying to be professional but January is hidings things.
This story is filled with misdirection, by the author, and just when you think you know who the culprit is, something else happens, that makes you think it is someone else.
I really love stories like that. I love to be kept guessing, until the end of the story.
This is a real winner.

Deadly Betrayal by L.A. Dobbs is Book three in the Rockford Security Series. I found this book to be pretty run-of-the-mill with an oft-used plot that had no updates or twists. Dino Machiavelli works for the security company run by his friend, Blake Rockford, who about to fire him for losing his temper and hurting someone...again. The solution pops into hand when Blake considers using Dino to guard his new client, January Winters. Turns out all of them went to school together. Dino and Jan were an item. Dino protests, but to no avail. "You want your job, you do this job." We all know how that will go, don't we?

I thought the characters were rather flat and the plot is an old one. It was a pleasant enough read but if you have a big TBR pole, skip it and move on.

I received a free ARC of Deadly Betrayal. All opinions expressed herein are solely my own.

This book starts off really strong and gets your attention right off the bat.

Dino Machiavelli works for the Rockford Security firm. Providing security services for celebrity clients among other security services. Dino's next assignment is to be a bodyguard for January Winters. His H.S. girlfriend from 15 years ago who broke up with him without giving him a reason. He does not want to accept this assignment. The assignment turns out to be much more dangerous than he, or his boss, Blake Rockford ever imagined it would be.

It is well written, and has developed characters and a solid plot line. This story has been modified from the original one, it is definitely a better and more entertaining story than the original.

A cozy mystery with flawed real people & a bit of sizzle

I love how LA Dobbs give us fully realized, flawed people that feel like someone you know. It makes us want to know their stories, their heartache & how they succeed.
In this story we get to know the broken heart inside the big, stepping bodyguard Dino. We also get to know the insecurities behind the only woman he ever loved & who broke his heart 15 years ago. And if that is not enough we get the heart racing & dangerous story of how her life is in danger just as they are to do g their way back to the trust & love neither of them has never forgotten.
But this is an intriguing mystery that has twists & turns that will keep you guessing til the very end.
DON'T MISS IT!

I love fast-paced stories. I like background, but I also like a lot of action and suspense. This story had all of that. Jan, however, was not a good protectee. She has a bodyguard for a reason. Granted she and Dino had a past, but that was over all because of her and she still blamed him. She didn't give him information that could have protected her from the danger she was in, but didn't want to have to "depend" on Dino. What the heck is a bodyguard for??? I did enjoy all the twists and turns in the plot and kept trying to guess who it was terrorizing her. This was a really good suspense thriller and I recommend reading it.

Dino Machiavelli works for the Rockford Security firm. Providing security services for celebrity clients. Dino's next assignment is to be a body guard for January Winters. His H.S. girlfriend from 15 years ago who broke up with him without giving him a reason.

It is definitely a romantic suspense category book. It is well written, and has developed characters in it.
The suspense is solid throughout the book. Some of the romance is sweet, but due to placement and Dino's profession, it's also inappropriate.
It's an enjoyable read, but does need a little tweaking to be an excellent story.

A good suspense with a romantic interest. I received an ARC for my honest review.
Jan Winters is an up and coming country singer. Dino Machiavelli works for Rockford Security and has anger issues. Those anger issues get him assigned to Jan as her bodyguard. However, there is more than one problem with this...Dino and Jan dated in High School. They went their separate ways, with Dino not knowing why and Jan believing rumors. So, neither one of them are pleased to be thrown together again. The suspense of just who the stalker is takes the reader on a few twists and turns. An enjoyable fast read.

I found the entire story idea intriguing about a star hiring a bodyguard and discovering he's an old flame from her past. Jones did a great job bringing the story across with good plotting and character development, but there were times where it seemed to drag for me. Almost as if the author was trying to lengthen the story or like the old days, she was getting paid by the word. All in all though, a good romance with some very satisfying bedroom scenes, even if they don't all happen in the bedroom.

So many things pissed me off about this book. She breaks up with him because of a rumor. Didn't even see fit to ask him about it. She has a mansion and he has to sleep on the couch, wth? Her shoe was tampered with she doesn't feel the need to tell anybody. She finds an envelope of pictures in her house and doesn't tell anybody. She knows how to shoot a gun but nooooo she wants to carry a knife for protection. Yes, I know her uncle was shot and killed but self preservation dictates that you do what's necessary to stay safe. I did not like her at all. This story had great potential.

GEEZ, IF PEOPLE WOULD ONLY COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER, INSTEAD OF CHOOSING TO JUST STAY SILENT. BUT THEN THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH SHORTER BOOK. JAN WAS UNBELIEVABLE, HOW STUPID COULD YOU BE SHE BEHAVED LIKE AN IDIOT. COMMUNICATE, PLEASE. THE LYRICS TO THAT SONG JUST DIDN’T SEEM LIKE A HAPPY SONG TO ME, HUH. THIS WAS VERY REPETATIVE, THEY KEPT TELLING THE SAME STUFF OVER & OVER, THE ONLY THING CHANGING WAS THE SCENERY. ;{

Had the pleasure of reading this. WOW!! I really enjoyed the characters January Winters and her ex Dino Machiavelli. The two with a past reconnected with Dino being hired to be Jan's bodyguard when she has a crazy stalker. There was some twists to the story where I had my suspicions of who it was but was kinda unsure for a bit. Great book. Look forward to the rest of the series. I enjoyed the chemistry of the characters whether friends, exes or managers.

More romance than mystery

I really enjoyed L. A. Dobbs’ Sam Mason series and figured I give Rockford Security a try. The plot summary gave indication of romance but I hoped the mystery would dominate. I hoped wrong. I got tired of both characters thinking to themselves the other doesn’t have the same feelings. Heck, they slept together in their undies. Those who get all warm and fuzzy may like it.

Second chance suspense

Quick and enjoyable read. The story is straight forward and the history and present day information is balanced well. I figured out the who easily but not the why. There are romantic elements to the story, but the suspense part did outweigh the romance. Storylines of second chance and trust were very present.

The backstory of Blake had my attention and his family seemed great. This was a good start to a series!

Could not suspend my disbelief at how irresponsible of an idea to have a former bf/gf be bodyguard/body. 100% a no-no. Also the lackadaisical way he was guarding was horrifying. And...super rich and famous woman (or any person, not being sexist, just relating to this story) has an alarm system she doesn’t keep active as a routine and has no cameras?? Oi.
I guess the story was fine otherwise. The romance-y part. But erm. Hm. Is the whole series like this?

Cold As Her Heart

Dino is assigned a bodyguard job only to find out it's the one who got away. She has a stalker and he's determined to keep her safe. They are tricked and arrested the wrong person. Dino gets there in the nick of time to save Jan but the crazed woman that is her stalker gets the drop on him. Jan picks up his gun and shoots the knife out of Erin's hand as the police show up and arrest Erin. Great story.

Such a great story!

I loved it! I know it's not politically correct to have a hunk of a guy come n save you but I just love it! Jan was a great character even if she kept forgetting to set her alarms or walking into situations that she should know better not to do! Hence one star off! But overall a lovely afternoon read!

First time reading this series, interesting characters, and an interesting premise. At first I wasn’t really sure if I cared about the characters or the plot enough to want to read the whole book. But the author’s well woven story drew me in and caught my attention, so I finished reading in about three hours without putting the book down for even a second. Well worth the time.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. The storyline was interesting, easy to follow & kept you guessing all along who the stalker was. I love the way Lee writes. You get to know her characters & you know what each are thinking & feeling. Looking forward to reading the next book.

Entertaining!

Romantic Suspense at its best! Rockford Security provides security for a successful singer/ songwriter who is being stalked. The ensuing situations are either scary, awkward, embarassing, or funny! Frightening confrontation with the stalker ends this entertaining mystery.

This was dreadful

The only reason I finished this book was to find out who was the stalker. Neither main character was developed and the heroine acted like she was still 17. Unless you love that sort of angst skip it. I've read other books by the author which were much better, so was very disappointed in this one.
