Maisy Morgan is a retired nurse and single mother of a set of pre-teen twin boys. She has been an avid reader since she was a child. After retirement she tried writing and found mysteries fascinated her. Some of her best work came from real life stories when she had worked in the ER. Patients who find themselves in unplanned and serious situations didn't mind sharing their stories with a kind face that is willing to listen.
Absolutely loved this series from start to finish. If u want a book that grips u and gets u excited to read what happens next, then this is the right book series for u....
When I finish one box set of books I typically hunt around to find another box set because I love to get to know the characters and everything I can learn from them in at least four or more "stories" till I'm ready for another. I don't how I missed finding a second set of books for this family in a new town in Georgia (and imagine my shock and surprise when I found the town of Peachtree City mentioned where a very dear friend of mine lives!!!!). I'm looking so forward to getting reacquainted with all the dear people from these first installments. I was SO disappointed that I couldn't find any more and could only imagine that these first offerings didn't sell very well!!! I had a feeling it was my own fault for not being able to find them, as they were SO good! In any case, I put 2 & 2 together and up popped a second set, so now I know not to give up my quest to find more books by Ms. Morgan. I'm off to start the second box set!!! I suggest everyone who reads these first books - get the next set, as you won't be disappointed 🐅🐅🐅
A picture of family, the good, the bad and the ugly. Teen friendships, crushes, peer pressure, the nerds and different from the popular. Hard things like addiction, abuse, disability and Cancer. And in the midst of all that, murder and general mayhem. All written tastefully and extremely well. Thoroughly enjoyed, wouldn’t mind reading more about this group that made up family.
I read this series in just a couple of days. The characters were well developed and easy to get attracted to. The story lines in all the books were good. The reasons for a 4 instead of a 5 were spelling and grammatical mistakes and the impossible part of having a private citizen not only investing but riding along in the police car, going to talk with suspects, being in the interrogation room, etc.
Well written stories , good story line. The thing that I didn’t like is another woman who is involved in solving cases better than the police can. Not logical that a police officer would take a civilian into crime scenes. Other than that, I liked the story and most of the people. Definitely love a sweet feet.
This is the 2nd time I read this, & it seems better than the first time. The characters in this are so real & I really identified with the grandmother, since I am one with 5 grands. Made me feel like your never too old for romance or to figure out a mystery at any age. I have told many friends about this series & about the author.
The characters and story lines seem so real! Each book made me eager for the next. I loved the way each character 's lives were so weaved into a wonderful tapestry of life!
What a fantastic series of books,I really enjoyed this book the characters are really well written and enjoyable to read I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mystery stories.
Very good story, a little of everything, from raising teenagers and special friendships for young and old to parenting and mystery. Extremely well incorporated to hold my interest throughout .
If you’re looking for a light, pleasant read without cursing and sexual situations, this series is for you! The first two books are told from Mary’s point of view. She’s the single retired lady from the west coast who moves to Georgia with her 14-yr-old grandson. She opens a sweet shop and has an amazing amount of free time to solve murder mysteries! The last two books are told mostly from the grandson’s view. I didn’t enjoy those as much and skimmed through some of it. If I wanted to read about middle schooler angst, I would have purposely chosen that. Even so, if you have Kindle Unlimited, they’re all free!
I rarely buy a book or books, but something about this little set grabbed my attention. First, the title character was a retired woman who was starting a new career across the country. Immediately, I was intrigued as I just think it would be wonderful to be able to do that, but you do have to have the money to do this and she was a retired investigative news reporter so I guess it paid well. Additionally, she moved from Los Angeles to small town Georgia....slightly lower cost of living.
Second, I think it would be such fun to run a bakery. Such a fun new occupation and one in which you would meet lots of people.
Third, the summary let you know that there would be a man entering into Mary’s life. I thought that is so nice because so many people assume there is no romance left once a woman passes the age of 50, and these little books changed that idea.
Now the romance....well, you never “see” any actual romance. You know Mary is dating Officer Preston but there is never any indication of a romantic relationship.
A couple of things bothered me. First, Officer Preston was referred to as Officer Preston and as just Preston. I assume there was a mistake on the part of the author unless the man’s name is Preston Preston. This bothered me as even in the south, a police office would not be introduced using his first name....in the way we refer to women as “ Miss Susan” or “ Mr. Bob.”
The second thing that got to me was the use of the term “dip out” or “ dipping out.” Now, I read a lot and feel that I am pretty current on terms used but I have never heard the term dipping out used meaning to leave. It was used constantly and I thought about the writing lessons I did with students where we would brainstorm other words to use.....basically, I wanted to tell the author to learn to use a thesaurus.
Overall, the stories were sweet...maybe a little drawn out but sweet quick little reads. They do not take much time or effort and are easy to read at bedtime.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sweet Revenge, the first of the Sweet Shop mysteries. The characters are well written and personable. The small town ambiance is great. In fact I am ready to make a trip to Brooks, GA and try that rainbow cake! The plot has numerous twists and many suspects. I did not figure it out which is always a plus. Key Lime Pie was a fun weekend afternoon read. I enjoy the books in this series. The main characters (Hannah (in wheelchair), her Mom, Mary, Tripp, Officer Preston, Drago and his family) are very interesting and well portrayed. The action is busy in this story - both a bank robbery (while Mary & Tripp are at the bank) and a murder. Are they connected? Will Mary and Officer Preston work the case together? Lots of twists in this plot. The killer may not be who you suspect! Fudge and Murder is another book in the wonderful Sweets Shop Cozy Mysteries. These stories do stand alone, but they are definitely better if you read them all. The recurring cast of characters is great. Tripp and Mary have made many friends in their new community. This story is a great mystery but it also deals with the angst of being freshmen in a new school - particularly if you are the one(s) who don't fit the "norm." I never figure out "who did it" which I love. These are just great stories with characters who feel like extended family. In Sweet Deadly Endings Tripp's mother is visiting Georgia with her movie star boyfriend when Matthew's assistant turns up dead. Can Mary prove Matthew is innocent? With lot's of family drama, bad news for Hannah, and too many suspects, I was forced to finish this in one sitting! If you enjoy great cozy mysteries with a touch of romance, do not miss this box set!
Sweet Shop Cozy Mysteries are a sweet treat indeed.
I am a greatt fan of the cozy mystery genre. I am not sure why I downloaded these in the first place but am so glad I did. I am long past raising teens and have never had to encounter family or close friends dealing with drug addiction, but, learned about compassion in a whole new way though the main character Mary. Having had kids and grangdkids involved in theater I absolutely loved the last book.
I loved everything about this 4 book series. The drama, the love, the town and the people. How Tripp and his grandmother get along after not being together for most of his life and finally getting to meet his birth mother and her very helpful boyfriend. Tripp having to deal with so much with moving, school and meeting his new friends. Cant wait for more in this series.
This was an amazing series! It left me wanting more. I love these characters. The stories were real and the characters were very lifelike. I strongly recommend this to anybody that likes really good storytelling and genuine characters. These people are not perfect but that makes the triumphs all the more wonderful.
This book was so good!!! I loved all the characters and how they treated and cared for each other. This was a feel good book. I am ready for the next one!!!
