Kenzlee Mitchell was raised in a fairyland of the rich and privileged. She had a perfect life until, one night, her brother overdosed and she was forced to re-evaluate what was important in life. But just when she thinks she can finally move on from the tragedy, her father loses everything, and she's shipped off to her uncle's, making her their problem, until her parents got their act together. Kenzlee is, suddenly, faced with a new life, and that new life includes a new school, new friends, and a new future. Luckily, she has her cousin, Alexandria, to help see her through her final year of high school. However, all that changes when Kenzlee accidentally runs into Talon Draven and her life is upended, once again. But this time, even Alexandria can't help her.
Talon Draven can count the amount of people he cared about on one hand, and he liked it that way. He didn't have time for distractions in his life, and he didn't welcome them. He had a mother and sister to help support, and that was enough responsibility for any 18-year-old. He went to school, minded his business, and fought in the underground fighting scene for the cash he needed to help keep food on the table. But then, one day-as he's minding his own business-he's run over by a goddamn Disney princess, and his entire life's focus shifts into something he is not prepared for. Staring into the face of the most beautiful girl he's ever seen, nothing will stop him from possessing her. Even if it means he has to rearrange his entire future to have her.
Kenzlee is trying to prepare for an uncertain future, while Talon is trying to prepare for an unequivocal future. But the one thing they can agree on? Staying away from one another is a lot harder than it should be.
Spoiler Alert: There's no lake in the town of Lakeside.
There's not much to add to my bio, I'm pretty boring...LOL. My favorite thing is to read and, last year, I decided to trade in some of those reading hours and try my hand at writing. The experience has been one of the best things I could have ever embarked upon. It's turned into a hobby that is fun and thoroughly enjoyable. When I'm not reading or writing, I'm spending time with my family or friends.
It literally makes me sick how someone thinks that a man like this in this book could be a potential love interest. He literally says he’ll kill her if she ever changes her mind about him. Do you know how many women are being killed by their husband/partners/significant others? How many women are being abused right in this moment? Why are you finding this type of content so romantic?
I have been a huge fan of M. E. Clayton since Facing the Enemy and needed more of this author's words. The Heavier the Chains was sexy and addicting. If you enjoyed Ramsey then you will love Talon Draven. He was a J/P hero to a T and I was here for it!!
I thought this story was so damn good! Talon and Kenzlee were so hot and addictive. I loved that Kenzlee was NOT a doormat and gave as good as she got. All in all this was a fun story to read! 4 stars! ~Ratula
I wish more authors understood that a bully book can just be about the hero loving the heroine too much to let her go instead of a beat down and usually an insufficient apology for all the horrible things he has done!!!! Maybe I’m weird but I REALLY like the alpha male who just won’t take no for an answer as opposed to the guy that humiliates and ridicules a person for everyone to laugh at! Talon is everything my fantasy guy is about!!!! This will be one book I’ll read over and over!!!
YES ANOTHER FAVORITE BOOK!!! :’) i love this author so much for always making great books that have my favorite type of hero! OTT POSSESSIVE!!! And happy ending omg i’m so in love ~
THE HEROINE have been through a lot but during her new moving situation into another town and new friends new school, she’s very good all the way... the heroine comes from a healthy family but suddenly something comes and it made her to move. I thought she would be very arrogant but she is not! The HEROINE IS ACTUALLY SWEET AND STRONG.
THE HERO is a fighter and he also loves his family so much. THE HERO IS OTT POSSESSIVE ALPHA MALE!
WHEN THEY MEET THEY FELT THE PULL AND ELECTRICITY. So sweet! Even when the HERO DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT because it’s the first time he ever felt something like that, THE HERO IS LOYAL TO HER AND CHASE HER... the hero never goes to anyone else and just keep thinking about the heroine. I loved them so much :’)
•DRAMA with OW but it’s just a jealous person that tries to say bad things to her but the heroine just ignored her and walked away so it’s not annoying. DRAMA WITH OM is the heroine’s ex and the hero made it clear that the heroine is his. SO OVERALL THE DRAMA IS NOT TOO ANNOYING.
•IT HAS SEPARATION because the hero was being insecure and it was a misunderstanding that the hero thought the heroine was being spoiled when she is not. DURING THOSE SEPARATION BOTH COUPLES NEVER GO TO ANYONE ELSE. BOTH ARE LOYAL!!!
There were many things in this book which irked me. First of all the hero wasn't likeable at all. He seriously had no redeeming qualities and was extremely selfish. He just judged the heroine on her status and didn't even care to find out about her past and just went on assuming things. Secondly, he degraded her publicly a lot and most of the times he didn't even apologize for his mistakes.
Overall the writing was good minus some grammatical errors and I would have really liked the book if the hero had been portrayed better.
I really hate giving a book lower ratings when it was written by an indie author, but...
Let’s start with the good. I’ve been super into bully romances lately, and recently I was going through a goodreads list of nearly 700 bully romance books. This was the ONLY one I clicked on (and I clicked on many) where the H, Talon, wasn’t rich. Which means this book really stood out to me. Automatically the author gets kudos for breaking the mold and creating a more interesting H. However, I feel like the creativity stopped there.
I’ve been reading romance novels long enough that I am able to overlook the unbelievable, to an extent, in order to enjoy the story. It is, after all, an escape to read these books. So I can overlook the MCs being named Talon and Kenzlee. I can overlook the fact that Kenzlee’s parents who already lost a son would just dump Kenzlee with her uncle for her senior year so they can “work things out” after losing everything. But the rest of the story was honestly just ridiculous.
Talon has never cared for or loved anyone like he has his mother and sister, who he takes care of by fighting for money. We see how fiercely loyal he is to them at the beginning of the story without ever having much interest in girls or relationships. Then literally after ONE scene together where they bumped into each other in the hallway, Talon was obsessed with Kenzlee. There was no real reason for it. After ONE scene where they spoke maybe three words to each other he was threatening to beat up any guy who talked to her. After TWO scenes together, he was telling people she was his girlfriend and his sister was telling Kenzlee he’s in love with her and she’s going to break his heart if she doesn’t reciprocate. After maybe 4 or 5 brief scenes together at school, he was telling a girl who was hitting on him “Tammy, not only is Kenzlee my girlfriend, but she’d be my wife right now if I thought she’d go for it.”
He was saying things like “ I didn’t need this girl thinking she could come between me and Kenzlee with a flash of cleavage or anything else. I didn’t need any girl thinking she could turn my attentions from my obsession.” ... this is just not something that a MALE high school senior with an “8 pack” and “GQ face” would think or say. It is something a girl might say, and therein lies the problem. It’s too unbelievable.
Now, I love loyal H’s. I love OTT, possessive H’s. I even love obsessive H’s bordering on creepy. But there has to be a reason for it. They have to have a history together, or some shared experience, or there has to be some kind of buildup to their romance. I am just not a fan of insta-love and this was the worst case of it I have ever seen.
The book is pretty much nothing but scenes of the H growling about the h being his and getting jealous. It is a very short book, and perhaps if it were longer then the story would’ve been different and it would have worked. But the H’s random obsession with the h didn’t feel authentic and it just felt like a story written by a woman for women who love jealous alpha males. Which is exactly what it is, but I’ve read enough great books that I need more to draw me into the story.
As soon as i heard about this book i got it, I got this book around 9pm and started it straight away and coouldnt go to sleep till i had finished it all (finished 2am). I love all of M.E. Claytons books so i knew that i would love this one just as much and i was not wrong. I love alpha males and M.E Clayton seems to make hers extra alpha extra possesive and extra broody and i loooooovvvveeeee it. Talon is all of those things and more. loved this book so much bought the paperback straigh after. Im really into the bully romance books atm so this was perfect from one of my favourite authors. Now off to read the enemy series. I recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a alpha who will not take no for an answer (no dont mean like that) and who wants what he wants when he wants and no one will stop him or get in his way and he will do anything to get it well this is your book, and oh how hot was the tree scene dammmmm ok so go get it you wont regret it
DNF 35% but I might come back to it later. The H was a little too obsessed with his sister, mom, and their money problems for me. I read romance novels as escapism, I don’t want to read about money issues that both the MCs are facing.
He also seemed more obsessed with his sister than the h, which isn’t the norm for this authors books. She writes amazing OTT jealous possessive H normally, and I am sure if I had read the entire book, I would’ve loved it. (One of my fav authors for obsessed H!)
★★★★. They may be ridiculous and insta-love, but they are addicting and I’ll eat up all of M.E’s books. I loved Talon. He saw her, wanted her and got her. He didn’t let anything get in his way. The third act actually made sense for once in these books and I love how he apologized constantly. Kenzlee I felt bad for and I’m happy she found people who want her and will love her.
“My hand reached up to cradle her face. “Tell me you love me, White,” I ordered. She shook her head. “I can’t possibly love you, Talon,” she denied. “It’s only been days…” “Tell me you love me, Kenzlee,” I repeated. Her surrender was there in her light brown eyes. “I love you, Talon,” she whispered-finally.”
°Non virgin MCs °Both MCs are 18 y/o °Switching POVs °Neither slept with anyone else after meeting °Heroine loved before (she wasn't hung up on her ex) °Rich heroine/poor hero °Insta love/hate/lust °Enemies to lovers °No real OW/OM drama °No cheating °Sweet obsessed possessive alpha-hole hero °The hero broke up with the heroine but they were separated for only one day - both were faithful °Push/pull from both °Potential triggers °Intimate scenes only between hero and heroine °Epilogue: 5 years later
THIS IS MY OPINION! YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE YOUR OWN!
SPOILERS!↓
Honestly, when I read the title and Synopsis thought the book would revolve around a girl learning to live again. I mean, no one is "super" or "fine" after they lose their twin. Then add all the family drama, and her family losing all of it's money.
Everything on the cover indicates a dark story, one I thought would be getting lighter and softer towards the end, so saying that I got disappointed when it mostly was about the poor boy obtaining the pure, perfect snow white look-a-like girl is saying little.
The author had the chance to write something about mental health issues or being poor and socially misunderstood and did almost nothing in the end but write about pining for someone else and smut...
The way the boys in the book spoke, resolved a problem, thought and acted was volatile. There weren't a lot of parts that I liked from the main boys POV.
The concept of the plot isn't necessarily bad. But the way it was written was, and I don't mean the writing was bad, but IN MY OPINION the author could have focused on more important things than getting the main characters together. She could have eased the characters into healing each other after suffering so much in life.
In need of a jealous and possessive hero? How about an underground fighter who crazy obsessive and borderline lunatic/psycho over the heroine? If all your answer to that is YES then this book is for you!
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It brought out the classic j/p stories I've read before.
I also liked that this book doesn't contain OTT drama and that the heroine knew how to fought back.
If you're wondering if this is a bully book, it kind of is.. but just by the hero and nothing really physical and brutal. And the kind of bullying the hero gave the heroine was kind of crazy yet swoony although a bit hilarious. All I know is that you'd want this!
it's the first time i read a book from this author and lets say i really loved it ! the story was all super insta-everything but it wasn't the usual over the top sweet like i'm used to, here we have a kind of jerk hero and a lot of times i didnt like him very much cuz he judges her without knowing her, but it worked good for me anyway, this difference made me like the book more and thank God it's a safe book, no cheating and everything it's solved almost right away :D
This is just ridiculous. I know it's high school, but come on. Extreme instalove with a hero proclaiming a new girl at school his girlfriend without even knowing her or her consenting to it. He explicitly says that whether she likes it or not, they're together and she doesn't get a say in it. Creepy.
The writing wasn't bad, though. But the story is ridiculous and full of clichés.
This was really disappointing. The H was insecure about the h's money for 95% of the book. The sex was boring, the conflicts were boring, and just... yeah.
I finished this book in 1 night and I couldn’t sleep thinking about how wrong a lot of it was. It started off great with the back stories, to really understand the characters. I really understood how Kayzlee was feeling and her circumstances, and was looking forward to her having a new life. When she met Talon, that was fucked. First encounter was reg flag. I don’t care how gorgeous he was that was bad saying he’s hers from first meeting and posting it online the next day. He was rude and suffocating and so violent with her. Grabbing her by the neck all the time saying he’d kill her, wtf is that about??? He needed counselling and she needed a restraining order honestly. She was miserable for weeks with him, felt trapped. And the fact that they had sex right after his fighting didn’t sit right with me at all. I think the timings were off and I think the author could have changed a lot in order for it to work because I felt stressed and trapped in that relationship it was toxic. Even at the end how she got that money and first he hated everything about it, yet let her pay for his friends education and his sister so easily.. and how they got married after 1 year of college and had a baby so soon.. I don’t know it was all so odd.. I didn’t read any other book in the series, it kind of put me off especially how he put hands on her in the book, but anyway that’s just how I felt.

Book is really cute 🥰 It was a really easy read. It’s about talon who wants to provide for his sister and mom. He didn’t need any distractions. Kenzlee was going through her twin dying, her mom and dad losing all their money and being dropped off at her uncle and aunts house. They bump into each other the first day Kenzlee is at the school and they both feel an intense pull with each other. Talon didn’t want to feel it so he was mean to her and then the next day he tells everyone that they are together because he wants her no matter what. They get together and you can tell they both are made for each other. Talon has to deal with his insecurities about Kenzlee having money since her father left her money after he died. Kenzlee is trying to find where she belongs and both of them feel like they are meant to be. Cute book.
I can’t give this book four stars because the grammar and editing issues were simply too noticeable to be ignored. They disrupt the flow of the sentence so often that you get kicked out of the heart of the story. It was just bad really how many errors there were that weren’t corrected preproduction.
Having said that, I liked the characters. I was hoping for a bit more cleverness but I still enjoyed the low key aspect of this story. It was a nice read. Enjoy.
Did you ever wish that when the guy and girl met for the first time, they would just know that they are destined to be together? Well this is that book, but Kenzlee and Talon still take the hard way to their forever. There isn't any part of this book that disappoints!
Evan though this is under 200 pages, I think the story flows nicely. I loved the intensity of Talon and how he didn't understand how to handle how he felt about Kenzlee. Kenzlee is down to earth and just wanting to be loved and wanted by someone.
I won't give anything else away but read this now if you love your men OTT.
❤Short Story ❤OTT / Very Possessive H ❤Steamy ❤Mild Angst ❤HEA
I really like this author's work. She writes about strong alphaholes and strong heroines! It's great fiction, and I don't care that the guy is a possessive asshole! It makes the story better
I stayed up all night to read this. I quite literally could not put this book down once I started it. This is the high school romance that I’ve been looking for - the instant attraction, the forever love. It’s everything. I could feel Kenzlee’s pain. So good.
