Rate this book
alternate cover edition of ASIN B07XBYLTRR

It’s a fine line between feuding and flirting...

Ever since Megan Miller arrived in stunning Lost Harbor, Alaska, she’s been at odds with boat captain Lucas Holt. They’re opposites in every way. She’s a city girl, he’s from an Alaska homestead. She runs nature tours, he’s all about big-money charters. He’s also arrogant, annoying and oh yeah, wildly attractive. Lost Harbor would be the perfect escape from the tragedy that sent her running--except for her feud with the hottie captain.

Lucas Holt came home for one thing—settle his father’s affairs then hightail it back to Colorado. So why is he still here? Is it because there’s something fishy about his father’s death? Is it the endearingly eccentric locals and enchanting scenery? Or could it be Lost Harbor’s newest resident, a sassy scientist who’s as sexy as she is stubborn? Arguing with Megan is the best foreplay he’s had in years.

Until one of Lost Harbor’s dangerous storms tosses everything up in the air, and a feud turns to a passionate affair--with stakes higher than Megan ever imagined.

Great start to a new series!

First book in a new series by a favorite author! It is set in an Alaskan harbor and you can honestly feel the changes in the weather; that’s how descriptive it is. I won’t retell the story but it is about Megan Miller, her little girl Ruby, and Lucas Holt.

Megan is divorced, has just moved to Alaska, and she is trying to fit in with the “locals” by being the very best at anything and everything. Her daughter is a child prodigy but very much an adorably too-smart-for-her-age little girl, who loves her mother (as much as her mother loves her) and nature and everything about where they are living in Alaska. Megan’s ex is someone I could grow to dislike, quite easily, but you’ll have to read the story to enjoy that ride.

Lucas has just come back home to Alaska to deal with his recently deceased father’s business, his dad’s “stuff”, and to help his mother but yearns to go back to his home and business in Colorado. But he adores Ruby and loves, loves, loves to tease Megan every chance he gets. He often tries to be nice but it always comes out snarky…let the sparks fly!

Because it is a new series, we get to meet lots of folks in town, enjoy the scenery, and start to love everyone and everything here. There is drama and intrigue and a bit of mayhem thrown in for good measure – Ruby has an “adventure” that made my heart beat faster! – but at its core it is a story of Megan and Lucas falling in love. Enjoyed the story and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Mine Until Moonrise is book 1 in the new series Lost Harbor, Alaska by Jennifer Bernard and what a great start!

Megan Miller, scientist, mother of a child prodigy comes to Lost Harbor to start a new life for herself and her daughter following a horrific trauma at her former job. Now she owns a natures tour business and is feuding with big charter captain Lucas Holt...

Lucas Holt returns home to Lost Harbor after the death of his father, hoping to settle his father’s affairs, sell the “Jack Hammer” and return back to the lower to his business Colorado, except he thinks something is fishy about his father’s death. He is trying to find out more information to the detriment of the local detective and feuding with the nature tours new owner and resident Megan Miller among other things... that is until the storm changes the course of their relationship...

Can these to find a way to coexist with business, keep tempers under control and not let the sparks ignite or will the legend of “Lost Souls” be what opens their hearts to the wonders of love!!

OMG what a great beginning to a new series from author Jennifer Bernard. She uniquely allows the reader to be transported to Alaska while staying all warm and cozy in their favorite reading spot. The characters are well written, engaging and realistic. The story itself is fun, and at times a little bit more. It's hard to say just what makes it more. Watching as the characters deal with their lives, the past and what they want for the future will have you feeling as though YOU are there. The setting leaves you wanting to visit Alaska! Fans of small town romances that have a setting that's a character in and of itself will want to pick this one up today. If you are new to Jennifer Bernard's writing or small town romances you'll be pleasantly surprised and eager for the next book in the series. A great story!

Jennifer Bernard has a new series set in Lost Harbor, Alaska loved it!!! Megan and her daughter, Ruby are new to Lost Harbor after leaving the big city, and is running a nature tour. Lucas has returned home after the death of his dad, running a fishing charter. From the very beginning they are feuding but soon it becomes a fun banter with hot sex.

Loved these characters, the banter had me laughing out loud. Ruby is a genius and Megan just wants to her to enjoy being a kid too, loved the otter. The descriptive writing makes you want to visit this small town in Alaska. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

This was a decent intro to this series.

As a whole, I liked Megan. She was smart and she was doing her best to make things work. While I don't think she's irresponsible like Dev tried to point out, she did flirt with the lackadaisical line a little more often than I feel like her character should have. I liked how she stood up to the town about things and fought to get the Forget Me Not customers. I will admit that the whole breakup with Lucas was ridiculous because she didn't bother to even think about getting his side; regardless of Dev's weaselness, there were 1001 reasons Lucas could have had his number and called when Ruby went missing. Rather than try and have a conversation with Lucas, she just jumped to "oh my gosh, I love him but I'll never trust him again so we're done!" and then she ran away to Palo Alto. Granted, this was part of her character growth (although it felt like it happened at light speed), the whole aspect of her PTSD kind of felt shoehorned in just as a way to add drama. I did like the fact that she finally admitted she'd been running and hiding and that she was able to have her breakthrough but still.

Lucas was pretty great. I liked the way he clearly cared for Lost Harbor and how he wanted to help his mother. I liked him figuring out how he wanted to do things with the charters and his decision. His relationship with his dad definitely sounded complicated, but at least he finally got the closure he'd been looking for regarding that whole thing. I liked the way he handled the Dev situation at the end; not technically under oath but still telling the truth.

The whole Dev thing kind of felt a little like it randomly flip-flopped. At the beginning, it was clear he wasn't so sure about Lost Harbor but that seemed more like he was worried Ruby wouldn't be challenged enough. But then we get to the end conflict and suddenly he's trying for full custody because Megan obviously can't take care of her? What? Like it felt like they had a mostly amicable relationship and suddenly he's trying to use Lucas' observations as proof that Megan can't parent properly? But then he suddenly is okay with it because Eliza caught him in the lie? That whole thing just didn't make sense, at least in my opinion.

Overall, this was a fun intro to these characters/this series and I'll probably check out the rest of them eventually.

This is my first book by this author. I was very excited to find a book set in Alaska and written by an author that lives there. After I lived there for 26 years, I have often found myself disappointed with books set in Alaska as they do not often get some basic aspects of living there correct. That was not the case with this novel. The author completely understands what living in a small harbor town feels like. I also appreciated her knowledge of boating and survival on the water in Alaska. The whole book left me more than a little homesick to revisit some of my favorite Alaskan haunts and remembering many good times of the life we had there while raising our family.

Lucas is the perfect kind of grumpy fisherman hero. But there is more to him than meets the eye. I love that he has good character, a streak of protectiveness, and innate leadership authority with other locals. I also appreciated that he is struggling with the aftermath of his father's death. I liked that the author let him walk through the difficult emotions that are present when grieving a parent when the parent child relationship was difficult at best. His belief in Megan and his willingness to banter with her was fun to read.

Megan and her adorable prodigy daughter, Ruby, have started over in Alaska to run a nature/birding charter. I love that Megan is a loving mom who wants her child to experience a full, well-rounded life and not just a good education based on books alone. I have witnessed many kids in Alaska having some of the experiences that Ruby has in the story and found it heartwarming (though they may be foreign to parents in a lot of other places.)

I appreciate that Lucas helps Megan find her self-confidence and that he sees her as tough from the beginning. Their sparring and verbal banter is delightful and the chemistry between them is off the charts. This book contains moments of humor, a little drama, and some heat. It is written in third person from dual POV. I look forward to reading more in this series and more by this author who took me on a very enjoyable journey back to Alaska.

That was a good surprise! I really enjoyed travelling to Alaska with this book. I got a real feel of the place, along with compelling characters and a sizzling romance.

It rarely happens, but I thought the enemies to lovers trope worked well here. The shift from one to the other was progressive, with more and more hints that there was more than just hate between Megan and Lucas–especially more than just lust. They change their views of each other because they learn more about each other, not just because they see each other naked, and I loved that.

Also, the intimate scenes where more than ‘insert pin A into slot B’. The emotions felt during the intercourse, the feelings it brought, were written beautifully. That made the connection between the main characters even more deep.

I really felt the small town atmosphere, how they all know each others, the sense of community. The romance and the secondary plots used it perfectly in an interesting story. My only problem was with Ruby, Megan’s daughter. I felt she was more a plot device than a character. Too bad for a single mother romance. Still a pretty good read, and I’d love to read more about Lost Harbor.

Quickie

- Series: Lost Harbor, Alaska #1 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #small town romance #single mother #enemies to lovers #opposites attract #boats #wildlife
- Triggers: mention of mass shooting, mild PTSD, mention of past parental abuse
- Main couple: Megan Miller & Lucas Holt
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + perfect enemies to lovers romance, with a believable change of emotions
- – I didn’t feel the connection between mother and daughter

Yay! A new series! This one is set in a coastal town in Alaska, complete with fishing excursions and nature tours. Megan is doing her best to fit in, having moved to Lost Harbor due to the encouragement from her eight-year-old math prodigy daughter, Ruby. Megan's only problem is Lucas, who keeps his fishing boat in the slip next to her nature tours boat. Yes, he's a delicious specimen of a man, but he pushes all of her buttons and, infuriatingly, always manages to get the last word.

In no time at all, I fell in love with all of these characters and everything Lost Harbor, devouring the story in one sitting. Megan and Lucas seem to come alive on the page, both of them with endearing flaws, and their bickering banter is lively and delightfully entertaining. There's not one thing I would change, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Lucas and Megan's journey to forever is witty, heartwarming and enchanting, so don’t pass up the opportunity to visit them in Lost Harbor.

Many original elements keep this story feeling fresh

The descriptions of life in an Alaskan coastal town ring true with locals having colorful histories and connections with each other. The author describes the setting fairly vividly so that readers can immerse themselves in another version of life. The spunky protagonist has issues but she grows in how she handles them and how she navigates her relationships. The moments with the daughter, dog, and ex are portrayed well enough that they come across as real and not flat. There are other secondary characters with bit parts, but they have personality deftly added. The hero of the story is rather likable, ruggedly built, to-the-point, confident, and willing to tease and be given crap back, and willing to make things right. I enjoyed the story and felt like I traveled to a great place while reading it. There is profanity, some natural elements causing peril, PTSD related to gun violence, a couple of sex scenes, and a pretty decent HEA. Just wondering about the boats and what the lovers do for a living next.

Great start to a new series!

Jennifer Bernard is back with a new series set in her beloved home state, Alaska!

Megan is trying to start over with her daughter but she’s not afraid to speak her mind in the processes. Lucas is home to pick up the pieces of his dead father’s life and he’s not really interested in the newcomer’s thoughts...until he’s interested in whole lot more than her thoughts.

I really love Bernard’s writing style. It’s fast paced with the perfect blend of humor, heart, and steam.

I can’t wait to visit Lost Harbor again soon!

I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.

Mine Until Moonrise is the first book in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series by Jennifer Bernard. Megan Miller desperately needed an escape as she was running from a tragedy she can’t forget. From the moment Megan set foot in Lost Harbor, Alaska, she has been at odds with Lucas Holt, a local boat captain. They are opposites in every way: city girl versus hometown boy, nature tours versus fishing charters. Lucas is arrogant, annoying and wildly attractive as Megan reluctantly admits. However, Lost Harbor is the perfect place for her and nothing and no one, especially hottie Lucas, was going to chase her away. Lucas Holt is only back on Lost Harbor to put his father’s affairs in order. But is there something or someone that could keep him there? He admits he loves feuding with Megan as arguing with her is the best foreplay he’s had in years. When a dangerous storm throws them together and further ignites their smoldering attraction, a feud turns into a passionate affair that could turn into a fiery love or leave them in ashes.
Mine Until Moonrise is a fun, sweet, steamy enemies to lovers romance. Alaska is the final frontier of the American wilderness with its harsh winters and months of endless sunlight. It is the perfect location for feuds and romance. The feuding banter between Megan and Lucas was humorous and a hint at what was to come between these two characters. Megan has a tough exterior hiding a terrified interior as she struggles to find her footing in Lost Harbor, first as a nature tour guide and as an outsider in the harsh Alaskan atmosphere. Lucas is struggling with his father’s death which has been ruled as an accident. He had a feeling there’s more to the events of his death. As these two butt heads, the sparks fly! I enjoyed reading as they progressed from enemies to passionate lovers and settled into more. I hope they make appearances in the rest of the series. I hope If you love romances, I highly recommend Mine Until Moonrise. I thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to reading the rest of the love stories of this series.

Mine Until Moonrise is the first book in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series. These stories are all standalone, but from what I can tell the secondary characters in these stories will get their own stories. This is Megan and Luke's story.

This story introduces us to the small fishing town of Lost Harbor Alaska and the interesting characters that live here. Lucas Holt was born and raised here, but Megan Miller is a transplant from the city. They have an adversarial relationship from day one when she arrives in town. As they start to learn about one another the shift in their relationship starts, but the banter remains.

Megan Miller is starting over in Lost Harbor. After a traumatizing event, along with a divorce, it was time for she and her adorable daughter to get a fresh start. She bought a boat where she is doing bird watching tours. The learning curve is pretty large, but she is determined to make a good life for her and her daughter, despite what her ex-husband thinks.

Lucas Holt was born and raised in Lost Harbor and left as soon as he could. He built a successful business in Colorado, but after his dad passed 8 months ago, he is back to run his fishing charter business and help his mother. He doesn't plan on staying since his memories are not that wonderful, but the sassy new resident running the bird watching tours has captured his curiosity and is giving him a run for his money.

These two love to argue and they have made a sport of it. Megan just wants to prove to herself that she can get past her issues and the insecurities her ex left her with. Once these two start to actually get along it gets interesting. I will say that overall I enjoyed this story, but there were some missing, unfinished and anticlimactic portions. The characters are great, the storyline is good, the sexy time was just enough and I loved Ruby!

I just wish there was a bit more detail in a few sections and a little bit of a better ending. I feel like things were finished, but not completely and we were left to imagine what happened in between.

This has to be my favourite Bernard book so far! I found the storyline and characters very unique! The setting was a harbour, with these people who host boat tours. This girl has a daughter who is super smart and her ex-husband is constantly trying to gain custody of the daughter to put her in gifted programs but the mom is persistent on keeping her near the sea so she can get social interaction, hands on learning, and also have fun because life is more than just books. On top of that, the guy who hosts the other boat tours on the other boat is really snarky and mean to her, constantly bumping into her boat and giving rude remarks. Yet, as expected, it becomes an enemies to lovers storyline. He helps a lot with her annoying ex-husband, and even becomes really close to the daughter. At one point, the daughter goes missing, and he plays a vital role in finding her. The mom often sabotages the relationship because she doesn't want her priorities to be anything other than her daughter, but he shows her how it is possible to have both in life. He opens up to her a lot more and she finds out about his dad and mean legacy and learns he has more depth and kindness than expected- especially when he loves someone, he is fiercely protective of them. I think all the characters were loveable, and the setting was unique, which made it the perfect romance story for me.

Mine Until Moonrise is the first novel in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series which can be read as a standalone or as the first part of the Lost Harbor, Alaska series, is an enemies-to-lovers story and is told in the third-person point of view.

Megan has recently moved to Lost Harbor, Alaska with her smarter than normal daughter Ruby. Trying to start over after her divorce and trauma at her old job she is finding it hard to fit in with the locals. Especially Lucas Holt who is constantly bugging her by pushing all her buttons and having to get in the last word. Lucas has come back home to Lost Harbor to deal with his father's estate to which he is convinced that there is more to his death than has been told. When both Lucas and Megan have had enough they decide to take their boats out to enjoy some quiet time until a violent storm rolls in and changes everything.

Mine Until Moonrise was a great beginning to the Lost Harbor, Alaska series. We meet a lot of interesting characters who catch your attention and you can not wait to learn more about it. Lucas and Megan's constant bantering is fun and Jennifer Bernard describes Lost Harbor so well that you feel like you are right there with the characters. Mine Until Moonrise is the first novel by Jennifer Bernard that I have had the pleasure of reading and I plan on continuing to enjoy the Lost Harbor series and more of her novels.

Mine Until Moonrise by Jennifer Bernard. (Lost Harbor, Alaska, #1).

This is a typical contemporary romance story, where the 2 main characters Megan and Lucas , meet under not ideal circumstances, take a dislike to each other and over time become sort of friends then dramatic event, progress to lovers, another dramatic event, they break up and finally get back together with the expected happy ending. Be aware several chapters of on the age adult content.
I liked the Alaska setting, the description of the ocean, the bird watching, tour guide boat trips on the "Forget me Not" vessel, the small town, overall story arc. The character of Dev, Megan's ex changed personality for no apparent reason and for me he almost became a different person towards the end of the book. I liked Lucas, his character, actions, attitude and his ability to find solutions that benefits all concerned. In contrast for me, I found Megan's character and personality at times patronising, zealous and extreme with her belief that only her opinion/view point was the correct one and a complete lack of awareness of why some of the town's people did not like her actions as it directly impacted their lively-hood and economic wellbeing. Overall for me an OK read. 2 and half stars.

An enjoyable beginning to a new series. Megan and her daughter Ruby leave San Francisco for Alaska. I love the story of how they came to make this move. Lucas is born and raised but after a very hard up bringing he can’t wait to leave. Megan is basically running from SF which we don’t learn about until mid book. We do know that she is smart, nerdy, an ecologist with a brilliant 8 year old. And a real jerk of an ex (he doesn’t deserve a book). Lucas’ father dies and over a brother and sister we haven’t met, he is the one to work the family fishing boat and look after his mom. He leaves his Colorado home and business, he thinks temporarily.

When Lucas and Megan meet sparks fly. Not the normal sparks, more the: you are a pain in the butt. Lucas doesn’t want to be in Alaska and this nerdy-birdie lady doesn’t have what it takes to live in Alaska. Slowly these two realize they need a first time meet re-do. With first books a good insight to the residents and how the town is run. The author lives in Alaska so for readers from the 48, the verbal visuals are awesome.

Megan Miller runs a nature tour guide for birds in Alaska. With her eight-year-old daughter, she set off to start fresh after a harrowing ordeal. She’s hiding from her past and trying her best to create a home and community for her daughter. Her ex-husband wants her daughter to excel being she’s a math genius. Megan will do what she can to provide her daughter with more than just a fancy education.

Lucas Holt grew up in Lost Harbor and he’s got their stamp of approval. Reeling from the death of his father, he’s been an ass to everyone including Megan Miller. He tries to make up for it and be friendly, but it backfires. When she’s lost in a storm, he comes to the rescue.

They start an affair that neither of them planned on. Their feelings are stronger than either would’ve guessed.

I really enjoyed hearing about life in Alaska. I’m not sure if this holds any weight to the area, but I enjoyed the scenery, the legends, and the community. The book was entertaining, adventurous, and romantic.

Four and a half stars

Mine Until Moonrise is the first in Jennifer Bernard’s Lost Harbor, Alaska, series, set in the small coastal town in the gorgeous wilderness.

Megan Miller and her eight-year-old daughter Ruby are newer residents, and while Megan hasn’t been able to curtail her forthright instincts to protect the environment or push for the good of the wildlife, everyone adores the energetic and too-smart Ruby. After a rocky first meeting, her harbor neighbor, Lucas Holt, has made baiting Megan into an ongoing thing, and their disagreements are becoming legendary.

Ms. Bernard’s story weaves together the lovely small town story with wounded characters who find a way to build trust with each other and the community. A well-rounded supporting cast, including friends, Ruby’s dad, and adorable wildlife, all make for a page-turning, emotionally satisfying start to the series. Can’t wait to go back to Lost Harbor!

Megan and her math genius daughter Ruby moved to Misty Bay Alaska to find a simpler life.

Megan a wild life naturalist and her math genius daughter Ruby had packed up everything in California and Moved to Misty Bay, Alaska. They were tiered of the big city and wanted a quieter lifestyle. Megan was going to be a tour guide but the business fell into her lap and they loved it. But all good things had a bad side and Megan’s was her nemeses Lucas, he owned the fishing boat that docked next to them. Her eight year old daughter loved him and his dog. But Lucas made her life miserable. Plus he was a tattle tail to her ex husband and she had enough problems with him.
This is a great story of a woman and her daughter moving to a new town and trying to fit in.

Megan and Ruby make the best of their new lives in Alaska after Megan takes over a bird tours by boat job. The Mother-daughter duo enjoy the moments, though business is slow. A known documentary type show wishes to cast the fishermen types and possibly the bird tours to show how life is in that far area. Megan hopes this chance will save her business so that she can forget a possible return to California. There are great types of people in the small ‘harbor rats’ group in Lost Souls and her continued arguments with Lucas Holt is an ongoing spectacle. Megan tries her best to be independent of her ex-husband’s lack of faith in her abilities, so she does what she can to not give in to his outlook. She braves many criticisms.

Too much of descriptions of birds (which was unnecessary) n less of romance.. The heat between the leads when they bantered back n forth was severely lacking.. This didn't feel lik enemies to lovers.. It was rather Lucas being skeptical about Megan all the time.. Megan was a bit off.. She wasn't a likeable heroine.. It felt lik all she did was being defensive all the time n constantly saying her ex was supportive whereas he was the exact opposite.. He was not at al a good person.. This was a boring ride.. Was struggling to keep myself engaged while turning the pages.. So as u can guess, it was a major DNF for me..

I went "fishing" through my Kindle library last weekend for things that have been there forever that I haven't read yet, and found this one, which is the start of a lengthy stand-alone romance series in the town of Lost Harbor, Alaska where each book features a different couple. I was looking for something fun and light and fluffy and this suited very well. Engaging story and writing and I read it in two or three big gulps.

I read this last week - probably May 19 through May 21. However, this ridiculous website won't let me post those dates. It's annoying and honestly I don't care enough to keep fighting with it.

Book-Challenge 2020: Book 38

I want to marry Lucas Holt. He seems my kind of man. Jesus Christ, I loved him from moment No. 1. 😍

And Megan was a lovely leading lady. Witty, funny, passionate about topics important to her. And - of course - Ruby. Her cute, incredible genius daughter.

The setting of the story - Lost Harbor - sounds like a place I would like to see. This story had everything I want from a romance. Enjoyed it immensely and look forward to the next book in the series. I really hope Megan, Lucas and Ruby will make appearances there.

Very well done.

Lucas Holt grew up in Misty Bay, AK and couldn't wait to leave to start a successful business in Colorado. After his father's death, he returned to take over his fishing charter business. Megan Miller and her math genius daughter Ruby, moved to Misty Bay from the Seattle area for Megan to own her own ecology tour boat. The two clash constantly, over everything, until Lucas is able to save Megan during a storm, during which their relationship instantly changes. Both have ghosts their trying to exorcise, and eventually they're able to permanently connect.
