Hey, it's Ria again. Still pronounced like Leah, but with a...yeah, I think you get it by now. It's been a few weeks since I met Jace, Tallen, Dax and Cade, but things seem to be going pretty smooth for us. Or at least, as smooth as it can be while living with two demons and two angels. We're connecting more each day, building a foundation that pulls us as tight as any family...closer than family, actually. But that asshole Jerrick and his freaky-deaky dad Azeros? Yeah, they're still hanging around somewhere. It's just a matter of time.
But they aren't the only ones that are dangerous out there, not the only ones with my name at the top of their hit list.
Thank gods I have my boys behind me...I mean, not MINE-mine. They're just...mine?
D.S. O'Neill is a pleasantly abnormal single mother of a fabulously wayward daughter who has been an avid fan of reading and writing since the tender age of 6, when she used to sneak home Goosebumps books because "kid books are boring". Born in Phoenix, AZ, she now resides in the beautiful state of Washington, with the mountains in her backyard and the ocean at her front porch. In her spare time, she reads (of course), and watches Supernatural obsessively.
Pages: 102 My rating (stars): 1 Read other books from this author in the future: don‘t think so
The series started of quite good, so I read the second book. Dear Author: we do not want to read over and over again I am a badass and then the female Heroin behaves like the opposite, by letting her be carried around and stuff. And nothing moved on in this book: not the romance and also not the plot. The plot even became background noise! This series is a dnf!
I really loved this series. This is my second read through of both books, and they're just so easy to get into. They really hold your focus, and the storyline is fantastic, in my opinion. I am sad that book two was released in 2019, and it's now almost the end of 2023 with no 3rd book in sight. The series has definitely been left unfinished, and I hope Ms. O'Neill comes back to this series and gives us at least one more book. I mostly read on Kindle Unlimited, but I'd buy this entire series in a heartbeat to have on my bookcase. Love love love Ria and the guys. There's a soft spot in my heart for Tallen. 🖤
I found this to be to PG for me…nothing romantic or play in it….i did enjoy the characters, but even though the story is ok it’s just flat…that’s it the feeling reading it is flatness….its drawn out where it doesn’t need to be….I thought it was a 2 book series, if I’d off known it goes to 3 red book I wouldn’t have started..its not that interesting enough for me to wait for any other book, hell I don’t even know if the author has plans to finish….it needed some sexy times to take it out of the flat zone…I don’t need to read porn stories or anything but a bit of sexy time is always good in a book…
I’ve actually really enjoyed both books, but its an unfinished series, last book was published in 2019. Does that look like the author will be continuing the series.
Ria has fallen into gravy. Well, not exactly. Dax has breakfasts down but it's usually eggs and bacon, not gravy. But, still, there's bacon, so all's good.
Five weeks after where book 1 ends, book 2 picks up. Ria is still as mouthy as ever, even though she's lacking her powers. No reason as to why they've abandoned her like that either. Jace is trying to teach her self defense to make up for the lack, but graceful she isn't. Angel blood or no. Tallen has gone from feral to house feral. As in, he will occasionally show in the same room as 1, or a few of them. Sometimes even communicate! The term is even more appropriate due to his nickname for Ria lol. Cade has become a little more relaxed and even uses contractions periodically. Dax continues to disappear when he isn't dazzling with his kitchen skills. But, for all her progress in defense, there's enough demons coming after her to keep her on her toes. But, the others that enter the game, those they hadn't planned on. And so the game of "kidnap Ria" is on. Which team will win?
Spoiler alert. Ria continues to pop off in the most confusing and ridiculous ways. It's highly entertaining. And the guys remain clueless to probably 3/4 of what she says. Dax's challenges continue, too. These novellas are just enough to entice but not long enough to reveal much. A combination of entertaining but frustrating lol. And I still have questions: *While we've gotten a few snippets of backstories, they still haven't said how 2 angels and 2 demons decided to band together. *Knowing that her past is key to who she is, they haven't tried talking to her dad. Sure, he's locked in an institution, but he claimed he could talk to angels. Hello. There are 2 angels in their group. *Why are they still in that house? Unwanted and uninvited demons have shown up several times. I get that anti demon wards are bad for 2 of them. If they tried to leave. But, with delivery services for almost everything, and money not being an issue, why could they not hunker down for a while? Or, better yet, move somewhere else? After centuries of existing, I'm sure they own multiple properties. Something to block location spells (if that's even a thing, abilities aren't really mentioned) and a new place to hide, and things can relax a little as they try to find out what's blocking her powers and how to keep her safe long term. *For ancient, and therefore supposedly wise, beings they never considered looking for her mom? Or wondered why her mom abandoned her? *I felt like the "reveal" in the last scene was kind of forced. This never before heard of ability just popped into a conversation? *How can her father be used against her? He abandoned her. Before he abandoned her he called her horrible names, reviled her, traumatized her. Even if she was the most generous person alive, knowing that the offer laid before her is one she could just have 1 of her guys do (once she's rescued) wouldn't make me compliant to their demands. It would make me dig my heels in worse. They basically explained how to fix things, then threatened the most stubborn person alive with the incentive negated. *Again, the lack of research, both of her abilities and her past, is annoying. These guys have unlimited resources through money and connections. *They leave the house for frivolous reasons. Yes, they are powerful. But, they also admitted the fallen angels aren't as powerful as full angels. I'm not sure what happens to realm booted demons. It isn't really mentioned. Not sure why the wing ripping, either, since heaven is described as another realm. Still, knowingly hunted, their numbers are 4 (possibly weaker) beings + 1 currently powerless cambion/nephilim/human. It isn't good odds on home turf, let alone worth the risk for a burger. That doesn't mean the scenes aren't fun. I'd just like a little more insight into why they deem them worth it. Feelings aren't really being mentioned yet. And we're not getting their POV, just Ria's. *An abused foster turned street rat knows the value of laying low or running. Why isn't she putting those skills to use? Bravery is great and all, but she's coming to care for these guys. She should be in protective mode.
I don't want to nitpick. The books are a lot of fun to read. Some things just bother me a bit because they don't seem to fit the characters initially described. There were a few more typos and errors than the last book. Most were minor oopsies. Easily skimmed over. Some were a little jarring and kicked me from the story. I still am so very curious as to where this is all leading, what this machine does, and why (no huge spoilers) are so very keen on getting it going. And, as I said after book 1, I really appreciate the slow burn in a PNRH. Bonding time makes the emotions seem more real when the words actually get spoken. Thank you.
this is a series I really want to love and do well. And, after waiting a year for it I just felt there could have been so much more to the story. I don't really like Rae- she tries to act tooooooo much like a tough girl. Like, I don't want a weak girl in a story, but being tough doesn't mean you have to sound like a biker all the time.lol. The guys are nice to her, but there wasn't that much relationship building, but back and forth banter. We learn some personal things about the guys. And, in reality besides taking the time to train her not much happens in the book until the end.
We waited a year for the book and there was only 12 chapters. There were times where the pace of the story felt slow and boring, and I skimmed a bit. I feel like so much more to the story could have been added. But, I feel like this story can get better so I will read book 3. Again, it's not horrible, but its one of those books were you hope for more.
I hate giving new authors bad ratings especially when they are indie authors, but hopefully, it will help for her future books. My favorite RH is The Veil Diaries and Norah Jacobs. Those are two extremely well-written books that have well thought out characters and fast-paced plots. And, the whole RH relationships are well done.
This book had good feels...but where on earth are the rest of this series...pleasssse concentrate on this series and this series only til its finished...the books are short in length so should be out pretty quickly...as other reviews have stated...worryingly I might add ...you have taken over a year between books 1 and 2...so if you want to build a strong loyal reader fan base deliver the rest of series quickly... the 1st book was best...the 2nd ok...so please make the 3rd at least as good as 1...Thank You sweet author....😇
I’ve been waiting for this book forever and I’m so happy to finally be able to read this awesomeness from this amazing author. I love Ria and her crazy personality and the guys are amazing and I can’t Wait for the next book!
Merged review:
The second book was amazing. The twist at the end I can’t wait for the third book. Hope they get her and help her figure out what’s wrong. Can’t wait.
1 Star = DNF. 2 Star = Finished. Didn’t really enjoy. 3 Star = Finished. Story was neither good nor bad. 3.5 Star = Finished. Story was neither good nor bad. Will probably pick up next in series if there is one. 4 Star = Finished. Enjoyed story & would reread. 5 Star = Stole my heart! ❤️
I was hoping for more steam and story but it didn't have much of either tbh.. Ria spent the whole book being snarky and complaining. And there was a tiny bit of the actual storyline at the very end..
Ria annoyed the crap out of me, then nothing happened until the last 2% of the book. Add to that the lack of editing and this was really disappointing. I really enjoyed the first book and after such a long wait for this one I guess my expectations were a bit too high.
