Talk about rags to riches. Cinderella had nothing on me.
I have a sparkly new crown, a remodeled ancient castle, and I’m mated to six of the most delectable princes a girl could conjure.

But my happily-ever-after honeymoon still seems a long way off.

There are plenty of magical creatures in Haret and Earth who would kill to see me dethroned - literally - and we can’t let our guard down yet.

Still, my men promised me a break and a bucket list, and my mates always deliver their goods. We’ll just have to get our sugar in small bites.

I’m Carlyle Licorne, and I’m ready for my next sugar fix.

The Sugar Bites series features Carlyle and her six men, navigating the new Haret as only she can do - with snark, sugar, and shanking.

These fun novellas follow the main Haret Chronicles, but they can be read before those books, too.

Ready for your next sugar fix? Scroll up now to start the fun!
Reverse Harem - one girl loving six guys
Fast Burn - our girl is already mated - why wait?
Steamy - suitable for eighteen and up, plus some MM in the harem

More problems

This is an interesting take to what a Goddess is for her people. Carlyle is now the Goddess for her world. Now she has to deal with past mistakes. Like the rule where more power comes with more problems Carlyle must figure out who is hurting her friends because of her own past mistake. I am hoping she doesn't go Dark like the oracle predicts.

A perfect start to the mini series. I love going along with Carlyle on her adventures and seeing her step into her role of Queen perfectly. I also loved seeing a little more of Jai and Killian. Kills is my favourite guy!! I would have been gutted if it ended after the first series so this mini series is fab! But like all desserts, I want more!!!!

Love it.

The bite was great and just wets the the appetite for more to come. I can't wait for the next bit to this series in this world.

I am just infuriated. I can’t even tell you if this was a good book or not because I’m so distracted by, yet again, picking up a book labeled book one and finding out that THAT IS A LIE. I have complained about this before. Hell, I wrote a blog post way back in 2016 complaining about this very thing.

I started this book and very quickly sensed that I’d been dropped into a story. Characters appeared without introductions. There was no world-building or even descriptions, places were named but nothing else. And the plot was 100% based on events that apparently happened in the past, outside of this book (one presumes the previous series).

So, a quick Goodread search provided me two pieces of information. I was reminded that the blurb says,

These fun novellas follow the main Haret Chronicles, but they can be read before those books, too.

And that the The Haret Chronicles is a 7 book series. And since I’m deeming the above statement untrue, that makes Mint Freeze book number 8, no matter what the cover and blurb say. Because even at page 107/130 (82% into the book) I came across quotes like this,

What we’re doing—what you’re doing—it means everything, Carlyle.

My heart gave a lurch. I knew it. God, did I know it. I lost sleep over the pressure of what I was supposed to be able to do, and the fear that I wouldn’t be enough.

But, if you’ve not read the previous books (like I haven’t, trusting that ‘book one’ on the cover) you have no idea what they were doing or what she was supposed to able to do.

The book is entirely like this. I could have chosen a hundred other quotes. I chose that one because it’s so late in the book and illustrates the point that the reader is never given the information missing from the previous series and it’s pertinent to understanding this book. YOU CANNOT READ THIS AS A COMPLETE WORK.

You, in fact, can’t read these books before The Haret Chronicles, as the blurb claims, and feel as if you’ve been given any sort of satisfying story. Period. I literally just spent 130 pages with characters I didn’t care about—since the reader is apparently expected to already know and care about the characters, that opportunity isn’t given here—chasing a plot I knew nothing about, in order to…yeah, I got nothing. I don’t even know what the end goal was. Plus, it’s a cliffie on top of everything else. I mean, I read the book. But I feel nothing but frustration having done so. And I can’t imagine that was the author’s intention.

What’s more, over half of this novella appears to just be pulled directly from past books and fed to the reader as memories. So, I don’t even think this is a new story. Having not read The Haret Chronicles, I can’t know if it’s literally a cut and paste (from previous books) job or if it’s freshly written. But it felt like a cut and paste job.

So, if you’ve read The Haret Chronicles, this is probably a fun little addendum and you’re experience with Mint Freeze was probably completely different than mine. I can see what role the ‘sugar bites’ are supposed to play, after all. If you haven’t read The Haret Chronicles, don’t believe the lie that you can read this first. Put this book down and go start at the beginning.

The writing seems fine. The three characters included here (Carlyle and two of six of her mates) seem likeable enough. The sex scenes were fine. I might have liked the series if I hadn’t unknowingly started it at book 8.

Jumped backed into the world of Qilin, wanted to keep up with the laughs and funnier and sexier books and this one didnt disappoint. It does feel a little disjointed though with the memory flashbacks, I think it would be better reading since you can see where the flashback ends and sometimes it was so seamless on audio you were shocked when it went back to the present. We get to have some sexy times in the present and flashbacks, focusing on our icy vampire and our super sexy fae. I loved that Carlyle pushed for what Killian wouldn't even mention and Jai was open to it (boy was that scene fiiiiire!). I enjoyed the storyline, it was confusing again with the flashbacks but I am intrigued to know what is going on so on to book 2 of these short novellas is up next in my listening queue!

Narration was fabulous, these 2 narrators really can do no wrong when they just have to focus on their parts and not do each others. Can I say Lucas' portrayal of Killian is one of my all-time favs. I could listen to that accent ALL DAY LONG! He really does bring that character to life so well. Not that he doesnt with Jai who sounds so different from any of the other guys, its easy to tell them apart (really appreciate that in a male narrator with a large harem). Great job on the narration, they are always an automatic listen for me.

Whoa

I was shrieking when I realized there was a novella! I had just finished the series and was sad to say goodbye, and now I don’t have to!!

Hot! Hot! Hot!!!!

Jai and Killian together with our girl Carlyle? Mmmmmm. Everything I dreamed of, only could be better if I had gotten more of it (and if Sol was involved!)

I really really hope that she gets pregnant! I need a whole series just on that. Thank you so much for writing such amazing characters and building this wonderful world for me to be a part of.

After the HEA

4.5 because it delivered what it promised.

I originally picked out this book and then looked for the first book to the initial series and I’m pretty happy. A little confused with the ending guilt but I also just had a long day so I’m probably tired.

I love that it’s sex and HEA and “oh btw”. And a new mystery?? The thought of something bad happening to anyone puts me on my seat. And did I mention how much I love the sex lmao

Good writing, fun sex, explorative sexuality and the meaning to happiness. I’m for it.

Hot

This book was hot enough to melt your kindle. It was a great read, but kinda dropped off without resolution, so looking forward to next book. Killian, Jai, and Carlyle are trying to figure out what happened to create the death blood on the coin that showed up at the castle. They end up back on Earth reliving experiences through memories. All the while trying to chase down a leprechaun.

A lil shorty

A good little novella- tells the story of something that was referenced in one of the earlier books when she got her tattoo with killian. Great spice scenes! But i dont like this whole new prophecy thing about a first born- i thought this was a series that wasnt going to turn into a pregnancy thing bc she seemed stronger than that to at least make her own drcisions and not be steam rolled into it but now it may be out of her hands, and i hate that

Short and steamy is a great way to sum up this little sugar bite! We get a little peak of those we fell in love with and a little adventure to go along with it. It will be interesting to see where these novellas go.

Short, cute and sexy

This book is a short one, but its exciting to keep reading about Haret and characters even after the main series ended. This book focuses on Jai, Killian, Carlyle and a leprechaun. The story is full of riddles, both solved and unsolved, prophecy and mystery.

Good

A nice short book looking at what happens after the Queen takes over. And there’s some new spice. But there’s definitely a new mystery and it’s not solved at the end, so small cliffhanger.

Yum!! The platonic MM exploration egged on by our Qilin was delicious! I could read a full series of that, though the sugar bites were a great idea to keep things heated from cover to cover. Well done, Laurel!

Mint

This Novella was full of fun and adventure with a bit of Mystery! But it wouldn’t be normal without the puzzles to solve! And we all know sooner or later our girl always gets to the bottom!

I don't normally write these out

But I am glad the story is continuing, I would have been sad had it been left at the first series when life is still mid peak.

Mint Freeze: Haret Chronicles Qilin: A Fantasy Romance (Sugar Bites Book 1) By: Laurel Chase
4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

******** May Contain Some Spoilers ********

I will try my absolute best to keep spoilers to a minimum or completely out of my review. Sometimes it can be hard to do so.

I loved the Haret Chronicles Qilin series, so I had to read this book. Laurel did not disappoint!
This is a novella about Carlyle and her mates after they return to Haret. The adventure that takes place in this book is exciting. The new adventure leads them back to Earth 🌎 and to a leprechaun. Hint: in the original series, Carlyle has a run in with a leprechaun. This is a must read even if you haven't read the Haret Chronicles Qilin series. What are you waiting for, get to reading. 📚 😁

Oh fantastic! We get to see more of Carlyle and some of her mates. It starts after Qilin and boy do we get a lot out of this shorter story. It is amazingly written and the flow of the story is superb. I loved see Jai and Kills again. It may be short but boy is there a mystery to solve. It pulls you in and keeps you there until you reach the end and then you want more. I loved the continuation of the story but in a different aspect. It is a must read and you will not be sorry for reading it. If anything you will be sort if you don’t. It has action, drama, suspense, mystery with a whole lot of hot sexy scenes. Do not miss out!
