In a world where demon lords build dungeons and devour human emotions, one rookie demon lord, Procel, has a new idea. Procel seeks to build a revolutionary new dungeon where humans and monsters can coexist. But first, Procel must defeat the Wind Demon Lord. Based on the light novel series in Japan, this sexy fantasy tale has built something truly special!
I really liked the art style and the premise of this manga, but it was SUPER confusing. There were just too many rules of demons and demon magic thrown at you in rapid succession. Vol 1 also doesn't actually get to the part where his labyrinth is a modern city (like the title suggests...) so I'm assuming that's coming? When there was the dungeon challenge between Procel and the wind person, I was hoping for a bit of that modern city idea and feel like it was a missed opportunity to start fleshing that concept out.
Still, this was really interesting. I love that Procel creates his monsters to be companions first and foremost, and I *adore* the elder dwarf little sister, haha. This was cute and fun, and I'm interested to see how it continues now that the grunt work of establishing the world and magic system is out of the way.
An ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via Edelweiss+ for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.
I ran across this series in a Barnes and Noble, and picked up the first three volumes on a whim. I will say that the first volume was a little weak in terms of developing the main character, but that may be because of what appears to be a partial amnesia that these new "demon lords" have upon being "created" in this fantasy world. It's immediately clear to the reader that they were probably brought there, rather than created, but the rest of the story is fairly interesting, especially with the system used for these "demon lords" to create dungeons and "monsters" to inhabit them. Since anything not fully human and with more than minimal power is defined as a "monster," the term gets used oddly. For instance, elves and dwarves qualify as monsters, as do dragons and skeletons. My only odd quibble with the art is that the writer and artist don't seem to agree on what kind of story this is. The female characters have a wide range of types, but the bustier ones tend to wear less clothing, with lots of cheesecake art. I'm okay with that, but a few times it's a little over the top for the stated "teen" rating, not because of the art as much as because of the notes going with it, like the "pinup" piece on page 159 and the descriptive note. The note came across as being on the tacky side, and it's the kind of thing that could turn off some readers. From the very start, the main character looks like a game-changer in this weird setting, because both his powers and his ideas are way outside the box. So, the story looks very interesting.
This Was A Random Pick Up After Reading The Synopsis Along With The Interesting Cover! So Far I'm Not Totally Sold On This Series After The First Volume, The Build Up Was Okay But There Wasn't Anything That Grabbed Me The Characters Are All So Typical So Far With A Series Like This, Plus I'm Not A Massive Fan Of Magical Beings Using Guns, I Wouldn't Say That It Makes Me Down Grade A Series Just Because Of That But Its Always A Little Hard For Me To Love As Much The Ending Of The Volume Really Picked Up So I Have High Hopes Of The Second Volume
Vừa xây dựng phát triển thành phố, vừa level up bản thân, đồng đội, vừa chiến đấu, hack não nhẹ nhàng. Say no more!
I bought this at my local books a million on a whim and was not disappointed. The art and story are fantastic. Who would have thought this was also created by the same guy who wrote redo of Healer!? Super interesting and well done!!
Thanks to Edelweiss and Seven Seas for sending me a digital copy of this manga in exchange for a honest review.
Dungeon Builder : The Demon King's Labyrinth is a Modern City! Volume 1 is about a rookie demon lord who runs a dungeon and treats his monsters like his friends.
Of the two monsters we meet in the manga there is Tenko who uses a shotgun and has grey fox ears and tail and her "little sister" Elder Dwarf who is a petite little gunsmith who crafts a new weapon for Tenko.
There is a lot of world building in the first volume and it's mainly interaction between the three characters as they upgrade their arsenal.
I found this a bit deeper than another manga I had reviewed. The tone was a little more serious and and the initial story was more fleshed out.
Rui Tsukiyo, Author. Hideaki Yoshikawa, Illustrator. The light novel is a good series. This manga version adds with a solid visualization of the characters and action. Readers should enjoy either or both.
