Cunning Megan O'Shay is many things—a barmaid, a beauty, and the notorious thief known as "Magical Megs." She gets much more than she expects, however, the day she separates a certain gentleman from his pocket watch . . . and the dashing scoundrel actually hunts her down! But it isn't his stolen timepiece that Nicol Argyle wants—it's Megan.
This Viscount of Newburn has finally found what he's been searching for: a woman who so resembles his liege, Princess Tatiana, that Her Highness will be able to slip away on a secret mission while the imposter sits in her place. First, though, he'll have to transform a perfect thief into a perfect royal by teaching her etiquette, dining, and dancing—while resisting the mischievous gleam in her bewitching eyes and the sensuous allure of her kissable lips. Because Magical Megs is a master of her craft . . . and Nicol strongly suspects she intends to steal his heart.
Born on a North Dakota cattle ranch, Lois Greiman graduated from a high school class of sixty students before moving to Minnesota where she professionally trained and showed Arabian Horses for several years. Since that time she's been a high fashion model, a fitness instructor, and a veterinary assistant. But an incurable case of writing fever put a stop to all those occupations.
Since selling her first book to Avon in 1992, she has sold twelve other historical romance novels, most of which are set in medieval Scotland and involve her very popular Forbes clan. In an attempt to pursue her love of humor, Ms. Greiman has also recently sold three romantic comedies to Harlequin Enterprises.
While caring for three children, fifteen horses, and a menagerie of pets on her small farm in Minnesota, Ms. Greiman writes full time, producing two or three novels a year and garnering much praise from readers and reviewers alike. Affaire de Coeur called HIGHLAND WOLF "magnificent." Romantic Times proclaimed LADY AND THE KNIGHT"...pure magic." Christina Dodd proclaims "Lois Greiman delivers....The Fraser Bride offers delightful characters, breathless adventure."
Her Highland novels have received Affaire de Couer's Critic's Choice Award, Romantic Times K.I.S.S. Award, and been nominated for Romance Writer's of America's prestigious Rita. Her titles have appeared on Barnes and Nobles Best Selling Romance list and won her the Midwest Fiction Writer's Rising Star Award.
My review differs from the others. I LOVED this book and was going to give it 5 stars...up until the last 30 pages. I did not read the first book, The Princess and her Pirate, and may have felt differently about the ending if I had.
The book starts with a happenstance meeting between our two main characters and ends with Megan bashing Nicol on the head and stealing his watch. He then finds her again, although he's not 100% sure it's actually her since she won't admit it. He coerces her into impersonating the princess, who has gone off to get a husband.
Nicol is good hero material, not awesome, since he's a bit of a bully, but well-meaning. Megan, our heroine, is awesome. She is intelligent, cunning, witty, kind...I loved her. From the true princess's description in this book, Megan does a much better job at ruling the country.
Megan's parentage is a secret and, for some reason, is basically ignored, which I think is a big flaw in the book. I anticipated a very different ending and that made me give the book 4 stars instead of the 5 I intended. Plus there was a lose end which I hate, but perhaps it's the lead in to the next book.
