This book contains eight principles every family needs. You'll learn practical, hands-on ideas for helping your kids deal with their anger, constructive ways to end discipline times, and keys that will help children change their hearts, not just their behavior. Turansky and Miller offer tried and true strategies in a refreshingly new family-friendly format.
You'll learn how to identify your action point, the point where you mean business and how to communicate it clearly to your kids without anger. You'll learn how to end every discipline time with a positive conclusion in order to help children think rightly about offenses.
Dr. Turansky and Mrs. Miller identify the common problems parents face. Then they identify adult biblical solutions and then break them down developmentally so that kids are growing into adult solutions instead of simply using some kind of childish solution.
The heart-based approach to parenting taught in this book is an extension of their approach to parenting used in their live seminars around the country.
You'll love this book. it's practical, biblical, and relevant for your family. The beginning of each chapter starts with a fictional story of Craig and Marlene and their two children. Read that section to your kids. They'll say, "Wow, Dad. That sounds like our family."
You can then say, "Yes it does. Let's see how they solved that problem." The creative approach will help change your family one chapter at a time.
This book is a great example of don’t judge a book by its cover… 😅
As a pediatric OT, children’s ministry volunteer, and friend of many amazing parents, I spend a lot of time partnering with parents and caregivers. So, I am always looking for great resources to help empower and equip parents and caregivers to disciple children well and to help me in my own work and ministry (especially since I’m not a parent yet, so don’t have my own parenting advice to give).
All that to say, this the best parenting book I have read so far. I am sure this won’t be the last time I read it and is the first of many times I will recommend it.
I really do only wish they would update the cover!
I love this book! It is especially geared to parents who have younger children, but parents with kids at all ages would also benefit from these practical ideas. Teach your kids out to listen and obey right away and much more. I recommend this book often to my friends.
These are my fave authors for parenting and I always am so encouraged inspired and challenged in their books. So thankful for the wisdom they pass on to young mothers like me !
A good one. I especially like the emphasis on positive parenting- encouragement and training vs. focus on discipline. Teaching character qualities even to toddlers, great practical ideas- Just part of the reason I think this is a good parenting book to add to your shelves.
So far, interesting and practical tips for dealing with disobedience in children. I only made it part of the way through, the stories are a little annoying, but the tips make sense and are useful.
