Press Pause: A Young Person's Guide To Managing Life's Challenges

Rate this book
There is a reason guided meditations are so popular in audio—it’s because they really work. Press Pause brings the guided mindfulness meditation experience in audio to young people.

Guided meditations offer many benefits, including the ability to create peace of mind, reduce stress and anxiety, enhance self-awareness, and promote emotional health. In Press Pause, wellness expert Catherine Singer offers six meditations that address the realities of being a young person in today’s world, giving special attention to topics such as academic pressures, bullies and toxic friendships, sleep, spiraling out, and tech addictions. Catherine teaches techniques to kids for handling the stress and pressure of adolescence, using easy-to-remember steps and acronyms. All the tools in Press Pause will help listeners to create a lifelong wellness practice rooted in mindfulness. Great for adults, too!

A great introduction to the importance of meditation and sleep and how to rest your mind. The narrators voice was perfect and I will go back to this to fall asleep sometime. Extra calming and a great aid!

I am often asked for reading recommendations for adolescents and this is one I can heartily endorse. In light of the increasing anxiety contributed by our hyper-individualized, technologically-driven, and pressure-filled expectations for growing up, Press Pause: A Young Person's Guide To Managing Life's Challenges provides practical and doable mindfulness meditations that work and help. Parents, and other adults who care about kids, will find these exercises providing insight into the world of teenagers, and also a helpful addition to their own toolbox for personal development.

I especially enjoyed the research-based description of the data behind each mindfulness practice, concluding each chapter. This is a book any teenager will enjoy, over and over again, as they practice mindful living and settle down anxious thoughts.

Once you get past the soothing mellow tone of Catherine Singer's voice and the NPResque feel (if that is even something that bothers you) this is a guide to help handle day to day anxieties, and from what I can tell, a fairly good guide. I give 4 stars rather than 5 only because I have yet to try the techniques on my child... They may not work, if they do, I may need to revisit and give it that 5 star review.

I didn't purchase this for myself, I don't have much anxiety, if anything, I'm so laid back I need to check my pulse regularly to make sure my heart hasn't stopped. I do however have a son who has the anxiety of a rabbit... He isn't quite the target audience for the book, the book is aimed more at teenagers and my son hasn't quite hit that hurdle yet, but none the less I think the techniques will help him to cope with his little rabbit brain, learn to better deal with his anxiety and perhaps even use it in a helpful way.

I will revisit after working with my son with some of these techniques and give an update on how useful they were.

I really enjoyed this audible original. I work in a HS and feel I can use these strategies with my students. My only complaint is this didn't come with the downloadable PDF file like most of the audible originals do. It would be great to have a written reference of this info to easily access it as a refresher.

This is a series of meditation and mindfulness lessons for young people. While I am not the target audience I thought this might be interesting. I did finish, but found them tedious and had to listen at 1.45 speed. However, if the level of anxiety in young people is as high as she states, learning about these topics may be helpful for them.

Not great, not terrible. This would be a great addition to one of many meditation apps. Or maybe if you never tried meditating, that's a good introduction. If you get this free through one of Audible's deals, it's a fine book to get for free. But would I pay for it or advise you to buy it? Nope, you won't find here anything you can't find in those meditation apps or by simply Googling.

I have some caveats about this book, but they may just be because I am not its target demographic. That said, I have asked someone in its target demographic to give it a listen and let me know what they think.

Still, I am glad I listened to it, even as I temporarily withhold judgment.

This is a helpful mindfulness and relaxation book aimed at teens and preteens. Nothing special, just helpful tips, practices, and psychoeducation.

Listened to this as an audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of listening to it on my walk to school. Made my trips to and from campus quite mindful! However, it didn’t have an “oomph” factor that would warrant a 5 star rating. Pretty mediocre in terms of all mindful books that are out there in the market. That being said, I’d definitely call it a decent mindfulness 101 for beginners.

I read this book while crafting a meditation program for an after school activity, and I found it incredibly useful. Singer offers six meditations that address different challenges that kids experience. It was a great way to get in the zone and look at current challenges that children are experiencing, and Singer is excellent at understanding current challenges and using mindfulness to address stress symptomology. In addition, Singer hits home that wellness applies throughout the lifespan and helping children develop mindfulness early on is a success factor for their future efforts.

Possible to put stars.

It was a really good audiobook to read before you sleep.
Also, this book made me comfortable to sleep because I sometimes have hard time to sleep cause I got stress from being bully but felt like people are also getting stress from their situation and from SNS.

This audiobook is 5 stars but not like my favorite that I want to own. so it is impossible.

This audiobook had some good guides. It's aimed towards to students, but the methods can be used by adults too.

I just got to get into the habit of applying these mindfulness techniques to my daily life. I like the chapter at the end that sums it all up because if I just need a refresher and don't have time to listen to the whole chapter, I can skip to that.

I probably would give this book only two stars but I found a couple of the techniques useful and presented in a way I hadn’t heard before. So I would give it three stars and say that it is helpful. Don’t listen to it if you’re sleepy though. LOL. Took me a couple of tries to finish this short book

Facil lectura. Me gusta en enfoque practico y accesible a principiantes. Ademas esta bueno el enfoque actual, y si bien se dirige a jóvenes y adolescentes, todo es aplicable a cualquier persona.
