Jack Fisher was 14 years old when he made headlines as the victim of a kidnapping. Over a decade later, he is now a free man, seeking to rebuild his life, and move on from his past. When he meets Connor, a troubled, reckless addict with nothing left to lose, they form an unlikely bond. What starts as a friendship, becomes a journey of healing, self-discovery, and a testament to the strength of human compassion, against all odds.
My first 5-star book this year! and it's going on my favorites shelf too.
Obviously, I loved this book. The characters feel real, their problems feel real, and how they deal with them is very real. Each chapter opens with excerpts from a book about trauma and those excerpts are spot on in ways that some pyschology texts aren't. I found some real helpful information in there, along with a beautiful love story.
This book is also very sweet and leaves you feeling warm and hopeful when you're done. Highly recommend.
What an emotional rollercoaster of a story. Written beautifully and un-put-downable. Two characters both hurting in different ways, come together and heal each other. New author to me and I will definitely be reading more from James Hayes.
