Ray-Chay is the new virtual reality game everyone is playing and the world loves its eccentric billionaire creator, Kody Crunch. Ant loves gaming and feels like the only person who can't get into Ray-Chay. But when something goes very wrong with the game, Ant is determined to help. Can Ant and his friends work out the real deadly game behind the game?
I've written for children of all ages from picture books and preschool animation scripts, to YA novels. My novels often deal with mysterious or ghostly themes, as I am a huge fan of this kind of literature myself. My YA novel ALIEN RAIN was shortlisted for the Tir na n-Og award - English language category - in 2017. THE COMET AND THE THIEF, an 18C historical fantasy, was chosen by Wales Arts Review as their Young Persons' Book of the Year for 2019. My book ANT CLANCY GAMES DETECTIVE is an adventure story about gaming for 8-12 year olds.
I really enjoyed this story. It's a book for children who like gaming and adventure stories. Ant is a lad who's an expert at his favourite game Kismet Cosmos but who isn't taken in by all the hype about the new blockbusting game Ray-Chay. His life in and outside school is spoiled by rich kid Griff who is determined to make Ant feel stupid. Meanwhile Griff wants to be the best at Ray-Chay and will stop at nothing to win. Short pacey chapters and a cracking plot that draws you in. I loved Pradahl as well! A great story about sticking up for your friends and not being duped by big corporations who don't care about their gamers.
Ant Clancy Games Detective A really enjoyable book from start to finish. Whilst at first glance it would seem to be a book just about some children playing video games, this story is much more. It draws the reader into the world of virtual reality gaming and maintains a strong message of online safety throughout, without ever appearing condescending. A strong moral directive emphasising the importance of friendship, forgiveness and never giving up, despite the odds. Well worth a read.
This book is an adventure/mystery set around a video game where the players are immersed in a Virtual world. It is slightly stereotypical in that the uncool kid and the cool kid ultimately become friends and work together to save the day. There is plenty of suspense in the story and it is a face paced book to read. There are no illustrations which is fine if you can build a picture in your mind. I’m not into gaming myself but I found myself engrossed in this story and actually wanting to read what happens next. Fingers crossed for a sequel. I will be adding this to my list of recommendations to share with KS2 staff at my school
Finished in one sitting. Would love to see this in a movie format. Felt like the kids version of Ready Player One where one has to put on a headset to go into the virtual world.
