Noah Parker is an angel. Sometimes he’s an arrogant a--hole. He’s smart, successful, and my boss. Did I mention sexy AF? And I convince myself I hate him from the moment I meet him even though being near him turns my insides to Jell-O.
He’s been ordered to mentor me. So every day, all day, I’m working next to him. Noah wants me to be his, all the time, but he keeps me in the dark on the projects we work on. So I don’t trust him. And I’m definitely not risking my career over him. Noah has his secrets and I have mine. I fight him every step of the way but we keep ending up in each other’s arms. If I could only stop telling myself ‘just one more time…’

4.5 stars- Scorching, kindle-melting, enemies-to-lovers romance: Noah and Penny
Just from reading the prologue, I knew it was going to be good! My favorite type of book to read is an enemies-to-lovers book (I love the enemies part... especially when they can’t keep their hands to themselves and go back to disliking each other after).
Penny is introduced to Noah in the most unconventional way- he’s at the meeting she’s late to because she fell in the rain after running, scraped her knee, and ripped her skirt. She walks in, completely disheveled and soaking wet, and has to sit next to Noah since there are no other seats available. She makes a comment to him about smiling and not staring at her (her white shirt is kind of see-through and her blue lace panties are peeking through the rip in her skirt) and then he gets introduced as the successor CEO of the company.
The sexual tension between these two is so thick, I don’t even think a chain saw could cut through it. They are constantly arguing, but when it comes to being physical, oh man do they agree. Even when he asks her if she wants him to be an a$$hole or a “gentleman”, she chooses the a$$hole (and dear Lord, thank you for choosing the a$$hole Penny, because we all needed to see that alpha-hot, demanding side of him 🤤🔥). They both have secrets (well, she only really has one) and he doesn’t always confide in her- which is why she continues to fight with him since he doesn’t completely trust her.
And omg did I cry in this book. When we are told why he wants to pursue the project he is working on, I found myself crying with Noah and even with Penny (when she revealed her secret as well). Even in the scene towards the end that leads to book 2 (Xavier’s amnesia).. ugh man did it get to me!!
This is my first book by this author and I’ve already one-cIicked book 2. I can’t wait!
I read this nearly 2 years ago. I don’t remember any OP drama. Sigh. Guess I’ll need to reread for ⚠️ stuff lol
I love the heat and animosity between Piper and Noah. Their sparks are fun to bask in, especially when they really get heated and explode! 🔥🎉
The tension ratchets up when actual danger threatens. While I'd fight it just as Piper does, I like that Noah goes a bit caveman and even pulls some dirty moves to get what he wants. It definitely keeps things interesting!
I was laughing at the reactions from their co-workers when things came to light. It was a lighthearted scene and an absolutely perfect addition to the story.
It's heartbreaking, but I like the setup for other books in the series and can't wait to get to them!
I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators are fun choices. Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter are good to listen to.
OMG, this book was so hard to finish for so many reasons...poor editing, use of both past and present tense, elementary writing, choppy prose,, boring dialog that sounds like it's conversations between ten-year-olds, unbelievable things that make no sense (a medical device salesperson does not assist a surgeon in surgery by telling him/her what tools to use!), overuse of the word 'asshole' because Piper lacks imagination, everyone is always throwing their hands or pumping their fists in the air, and there is way too much of Piper giving in to Noah, then pushing him away b/c she wants to keep things professional, but then she's overcome by his magic cock. I got whiplash 17 times while reading this book, and that was only at the halfway mark!
And don't even get me started on the constant sucking of necks (are they vampires??), pecking of lips (are they chickens??), licking the backs of ears, the pushing (instead of pulling) Piper does to keep Noah inside her, and all the other non-sexiness that occur between Piper and Noah. This is the first time I've ever read the word "netherland" used in a sex scene and I hope it's the last.
Some things this author writes seriously make me scratch my head and go WTF?
This book was so ridiculous, I will not finish the series.
My Boss the Billionaire has a very good and different storyline. It touched me personally because I had a similar surgical incident like the wonderful, intelligent Piper.
Noah and Piper make the perfect story book couple. The story is different as it deals with the rising cost of Pharmaceuticals and a women's female issues. The story is romantic and a bit sensuous but not too much.
The story introduces all the characters for the futures stories in "It's Complicated" series.
This book was missing something for me. I guess I like it when there's a little more resistance between a couple, a little more hard to get ,these two were going at it in the first couple chapters. I tried to finish it but I just got bored and had to stop. If you want a book that has every occurrence (and I mean every) ending in sex then buy it and read it. As for me I like a little more intrigue.
Noah and Piper were amazing. I loved her tenacity, she’s smart, gorgeous and should be off limits, Noah has different thoughts on that. Their meeting went a little bit off the rails, rain, show getting caught, falling and arriving for a meeting in total chaos only to see the hottest guy ever who just turns out to be her new boss.
The attraction is clear, the chemistry off the charts, the spark, well inevitable, but this can’t happen. Piper has some baggage and she can’t help but think the worst of men when it comes to relationships of any kind and Noah has been lumped in there with the rest of them. Noah has baggage of his own, more on the emotional side, she calms him, soothes him, he wants and needs her, can he make her see the light before it’s too late?
Will Piper wake up and realize she’s overthinking everything and just needs to live in the moment? Great read, these two are smoking hot, I loved the banter between them and the cast of characters that show us who they really are. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series. I grabbed this book from BookSprout.
My Boss the Billionaire by Maggie Cole is an enemies-to-lovers billionaire romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter. This is the first book in the It's Complicated series and can be read as a stand-alone.
I absolutely love Maggie's books! She does an amazing job pulling me into the story. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Piper and Noah. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series Forgotten by the Billionaire so I can get Xander and Charlotte's story.
Aaron and Stella did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like billionaire romances, enemies-to-lovers romances, or contemporary romances.
Wow. This book was a hard no for me. The two main characters were so dumb. The FMC Piper might be one of the most annoying characters I have ever read about.
To start off she has a steamy encounter with her new boss where she totally misjudges his character. He gets annoyed by this so he asks her if she WANTS him to be the asshole she thinks he is. She says “yes, I want the asshole”. So he gives her the asshole experience. Then the next day she’s all pissy because he was an asshole. This was the beginning of the end. At first I was like, okay maybe she tried it out and thought “you know what that wasn’t for me”, so I can make peace with how she’s acting.
Then she has to go and sleep with him again, and again he asks her, “do you want me or the asshole?”. She says “the asshole” and I’m like what!? She just got her panties in twist about this two seconds ago. The MMC Noah is very disappointed by this but gives her what she wants. Again, she’s angry and I can’t with the idiocy. You asked for it girlfriend. Then the MMC starts losing points with me because he’s all upset that she wants the asshole and not the real him. Just stop offering the asshole you idiot 🤦🏽♀️.
Then fast forward and somehow he’s in love with her after all these ridiculous experiences. After they each get their secrets out in the open the FMC totally shuts down. She thinks her infertility is the end all for this non relationship. She assumes he will leave her so she shuts it down before it’s even left the ground. She literally repeats the same thing to herself and out loud over and over. She has no other dialogue it seems. Essentially she keeps saying things like, “he will eventually leave me” and “I won’t risk my job for him”. Over and over and over and over again. I think the horse is dead let’s chill. At this point I could not hear her repeat this flimsy argument any more so I tried to skip ahead to get past it but it was relentless. That was the last nail for me. There would be no redemption in the rest of this book for me.
Lastly, I felt like the drama was not placed in the right areas. Each character was fighting their own personal battles but there wasn’t any real tension between the two main characters. At first I thought there was going to be some enemies to lovers tension but it faded so quickly. They had no reason to be enemies. The MMC tried to play the asshole for a few chapters but that also faded quickly and he was actually replaced by a bleeding heart. Then they are both hiding secrets from each other and that was so lame. She’s so upset with him for not sharing secrets with him, then when he asks about hers she’s like hell no, that’s not up for discussion. This whole book was one giant eye roll.
I have enjoyed several other Maggie Cole books, this one was just not it for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Crossing the line they did! It was such a beautiful and heart felt story, you could feel the fire sizzle and burn between these two characters. The bedroom scenes were oh so hot, wet, passionate, wild and steamy, so steamy your panties will have practically melted off! This author knows how to write and keep her readers engaged and coming back for more!
From beginning to end I was enthralled in the steamy connection between Piper and Noah. The line that blurs as it’s slowly crossed with keep you captivated until the end and leave you wanting more, and lil crossover action in between doesn’t disappoint (wink wink). Maggie Cole has brought yet another series I can’t wait for book 2!
It was a nice HEA read but the characters got annoying towards the end. I was just wishing for it to be over by 80% because of how easy it was. Life isn’t easy. They just simply agreed with each other like “yep. That’s exactly what it was.” Neither of them seemed to have their own will or thoughts anymore other than to bone.
I ended up DFNjng this book around 20%. There was just no substance to the story. The characters were flat and the plot was super shallow. The prologue was strong and the story ended up going downhill from there. Weak characters, weak dialogue, weak narrative and weak plot. There wasn’t a whole lot here to like.
Noah and Piper were melting my kindle. From the first meeting till the very end the chemistry was off the charts. Maggie Cole how do you come up with your ideas! You never disappoint!
My Boss the Billionaire It's Complicated, Book 1 By: Maggie Cole Narrated by: Aaron Shedlock, Stella Hunter
Maggie Cole pens another fabulous romance novel, a billionaire boss-hole, workplace, enemies-to-lovers romance set in her “It’s Complicated” series. The story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are easy to care about too, even the boss-hole, Noah Parker, once you get to know him and what his deal is. Piper Cadence is a rising star at Bennett Parker, a capital investment firm, she loves her job and her boss, Bennett Parker, is great to work for, but then he asks her to work with his nephew Noah, who would be her new boss, a gorgeous but an arrogant one. OMG, the chemistry between these two is explosive and so is the witty banter and dialogue. These two were great together and for each other, both are strong willed and gave as good as they got, each had their own secrets too. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a wonderfully written and plotted story with plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and a steamy romance. Maggie Cole, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Maggie Coles cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters and story to life. Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter are fabulously talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, gave each a voice that fit their character’s persona and were believable in every role they played. Stella Hunter nailed it as Piper, smart, strong willed and minded, and Aaron Shedlock nailed it as Noah, from his cocky alpha-dude to his softer a caring side. Both were great at performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. They set the perfect tone for the story and captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.
Piper shows up at the mandatory meeting drenched, bloody knees, hobbling and with a torn skirt. She had left lunch with her three best friends and headed out for the two block walk to the office only to be detoured because of an accident. In her rush she gets soaked in the rain, her heel gets caught in a grate landing her flat on her face scrapping her legs.
Deciding that cleaning herself up would only make her later for the meeting, she enters the conference room and finds that the only seat available is next to a gorgeous man she's not seen before. As his eyes travel down her disheveled self, she realizes that her skirt is showing her whole thigh and a peek of her silk panties. Before he stands up to applause he places her padfolio over her lap. He is Noah Parker. Co-CEO and Bennett Parker's nephew and successor.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and totally relatable. I love Piper and Noah's story! Piper is the youngest executive heading for a VP position in the third largest investment capital firm and despite their chemistry is determined to let nothing to distract her from career. Noah has his own agenda and despite his determination to keep Piper at a distance his uncle has other ideas.
This book had me laughing for page one. You can feel Piper's embarrassment and mortification when she realizes that she is giving Noah a free show. This is a scorching hot enemies to lovers romance. You realize that Noah isn't what he appears when he asks Piper if she wanted Mr. A$$hole or Mr. Nice Guy and is upset with her answer.
I highly recommend this book! It is my first time reading Maggie Cole, but definitely won't be the last!
My Boss the Billionaire It's Complicated, Book 1 By: Maggie Cole Narrated by: Aaron Shedlock, Stella Hunter
A good office romance to catch my ears, My Boss the Billionaire pushes all the right buttons. Book 1 in the It's Complicated series we are introduced to Noah and Piper. Piper is up and coming, the youngest to hold her position in the company and is introduced to Noah. Noah is Bennett, the boss's nephew and he is slated to take over the business. Pushed to work together, the two have instant chemistry. But both hold secrets, and both are not ready for commitment. Until they are. Will these two break with the parts that are hidden? I love both of these characters! Noah is strong, loyal and knows his purpose. His problem? His ambition to reach is goal may be a little too much for Piper to deal with. Piper is a fantastic, strong, intelligent woman. I love her drive, and her ability to see the truth in things. She too has an obstacle to overcome. These two are a great couple and it's an amazing start to this series. Getting to know all the couples is just a treat and Maggie Cole has a winner on her hands!
Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter always bring the best to my ears, and their performance of this story is on point. Shedlock gives Noah a bit of a commanding tone at times, yet has a warm, teddy bear heart. Hunter brings out all the strength and vigor to Piper. She does bring a huge vulnerability to Piper though, making her real. I love these two together and this was a fabulous listen.
Three and a half stars for me with this book. I'm not sure what my issue was, exactly, with this book. I loved Noah immediately, but was irritated with Piper off and on for the majority of the first 10 chapters! Her smart mouth almost immediately after they met. Even after finding out who Noah was, her communication and treatment of him was a little unrealistic. She made accusations about him being happy about a minor (bad) issue she had just prior to them meeting. Do I think people in certain/advanced positions should be treated to "hire" standards, per say, NO. But having a nasty disposition towards them when your position in their life is "potentially" so important for your life to function....? Then, she kept making accusations about the reasons he is who he is and regarded the way he is. And they knew nothing about each other. The whole dynamic of their relationship was a bit off to me in the beginning. Now, as I got further into the book, met Noah's friends, and them being clear about the relationship they wanted, I loved them! The back and forth they went through about midway through the book was great writing. The "love scenes" 😄 were fantastic and the personality of the friends is fabulous. I actually can't wait to continue the other books.
My first Maggie Cole book and this was just okay. How many times should she refer to the eyes as orbs??? “Her hazel orbs- His brown orbs”- it kinda disturbs me 😂😅
It started out really good with a lot of angst and anger and animosity, but it’s unbelievable with the level of hatred that was supposed to be there, they hooked up ON THE FIRST DAY. That’s too soon too fast! Come on!
What pulled me in is that Piper is supposedly this whiz in the business, who’s a bad ass office lady who is smart and capable- and that her new boss is attracted to her. Sadly the plot is mostly about them doing the dance horizontally, and not much else, with some mention of their emotional and mental struggles but I also feel it’s forced.
Noah- handsome billionaire who came from nothing and lost his brother and is not out on a revenge plan. In order to do it, he has to act like an immature a**hole towards Piper to throw her off the scent since he doesn’t want her in danger. For someone who doesn’t want her in danger, he sure wants them to become public and go out as often as possible. Come on, he could have just let her in and hired security instead of keeping her in the dark for the longest time!
Somewhere between 60-88% is boringville. Nothing much happening except the MMCs getting it on and falling in love. Goodness.
Maggie Cole does it again with this first installment of her new “It’s Complicated” series. Piper Cadence is dedicated to her career. After losing everyone she loves, her job is all she has left and nothing will stand in the way of her success. Noah Parker is the nephew of her boss brought in to become his successor. He’s now her boss. There’s an immediate attraction from both parties but Piper can’t allow herself to fall for her boss even those he’s hot AF. She can’t cross that line with him and besides that he’s an a**hole. Why would she want to be with a man who treats her badly? Noah doesn’t care about crossing the line. He wants her. He’s determined. He’s relentless. They both have their secrets which add a serious dramatic element to the story. Can Noah convince her they’d be good together? Will she surrender to it? Author Cole creates a brilliant push-pull scenario between Noah & Piper. The tension is high, the draw to each other extreme, the drama intense. Don’t miss Book 1 in this new series. It’s a must read. Highly recommended. A+++
Piper's first meeting of Noah doesn't give her the best first impression, and she is positive that the hot mess she was didn't leave the best impression on Noah. The sparks with the eye contact not withstanding, Piper is not happy when she learns that she will be working closely with Noah, in fact she is down right angry that this man may end up jeopardizing the position she has worked so hard for. Now, Noah is having her work nights with him, and lets face it Piper isn't sure how long she can go without jumping his bones. But that would be unprofessional and would certainly cost her her job, but what if it's Noah doing the jumping instead? What if the two end up going into something mutual, surely that would be ok?
This was my first read by the author and it will not be the last. I am now sucked into this world that Maggie Cole has created. I did find myself super not interested in the work stuff, and there seemed to be a lot of that, but the characters, they pulled me in. Now I can't wait to see what happens next in this world. I give this 4 stars.
Piper is having a crap day. She just had lunch with her friends and is rushing back to work for an important meeting. Well her usual route back to work has a detour, and then the rain comes pouring down. She has an incident with her high heel and a drain grate that leads to an injury and a torn skirt. When she finally arrives back to work she has no time to clean up her drowned rat look, nor does she have any extra clothes. So Piper raises her head and walks into the conference room looking like a drowned rat late for her important meeting. Noah turns toward the disaster that just sat down late for the meeting. She is ringing wet and her skirt is torn all the way up her thigh. And he can actually see her nipples through her wet blouse. What do with this lady? Noah and Piper have had a spark connection since they first set eyes on each other, but that spark quickly went negative when Noah first opened his mouth and the **shole came out of his mouth. Now Piper cannot stand him and Noah doesn’t know what to do to change her opinion of him. Read this book to see how Noah and Piper come together and have scorching chemistry.
This newest series promises to be just as good if not better than the All In series. This story deals with misconceptions, revenge, learning to trust and hope. The book is filled with wonderfully complex characters, steam, snark and all the feels associated with a story by author Maggie Cole.
Piper Cadence works at Bennett Parker's firm as a 4th level director. She is on the fast track to a vice presidency. Noah Parker has just been named Co-CEO at the firm alongside his uncle Bennett. Bennett reassigned Piper to work with Noah to learn mergers and acquisitions. They clash from the get go, but are also wildly attracted to each other to the point of addiction. They spend a night together where Noah shows how much of a cocky jerk he can be. Piper decides she cannot risk her career, which is her life, and does not want a relationship. They each have a lot of emotional baggage to work on as well as professional challenges but do get their HEA.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Crossing The Line is the first book in the It's Complicated series and focuses on Noah and Piper. Noah is her boss at Bennett Parker, the investment firm where Piper works at. The attraction between them leads to a hot night early on in the book, and the rest of their story focuses on their desire to develop their romantic relationship and their struggles to overcome their painful past so they can build a future together.
Piper is dedicated to her job, and wants to move up the career ladder. Having only had two serious relationships before, Piper has made some assumptions about why the men in her life eventually leaves her. Noah has to work even harder to convince Piper to take a chance on their relationship and most importantly, to trust that he will be there when she feels insecure about herself. In contrast, Noah also has some depth to him too; he is suffering from a loss in his own past, which drives his own ambitious nature. Both Piper and Noah have to trust and communicate with each other to share their past and make room for the new memories in the future.
If I didn’t laugh a few times and cry at times, I seriously would have it given it two stars. Silly plots, that just wouldn’t happen. He’s horrid to her, she’s horrid to him. They have endless sex, then they hate each other again. Until all of a sudden they love each other and everything is great!! Maddening!! She’s got secrets, and he has too. She judges him for not telling his secrets, but won’t tell him hers!
I read a review of this book, and she said she hated Piper till halfway through. Yes, I totally agree with her. She calls him names all the time and is horrid to him. He’s not much better.
There are loads of errors in this book and missing parts to the story.
Having said all of this, I love any author that can make me laugh, or make me cry. It means I care about the characters and she’s written them well. So for that alone, 3 stars.
The chemistry between these two is definitely hot. This story has a bit of everything, love/hate, suspense, passion and laughs. Piper has worked hard and is on the road to becoming the youngest VP at work. Coming back from lunch with her friends she gets caught in a storm, ends up falling and is a complete mess. She arrives back at work in time for a meeting that she cannot miss. She decides to go in like she is knowing her boss Bennett will understand. When she arrives she has to sit in the only seat left, next to Noah. He is not impressed, nor is Piper. Within a few minutes she finds out he is the nephew of her boss. Then they both get blindsided that they will be working together in a project that Noah is heading. These two were so fun to read. Both headstrong and smart. Watching them learn to trust each other and fall in love was a lot of fun. Looking forward to reading their friends stories.
Noah and Piper….I loved this story! Piper has worked hard to get where she is today and Noah is the nephew of the owner of the firm that Piper works at so naturally Piper thinks he has been raised with a silver and/or gold spoon….but she is wrong! The attraction between these two practically created sparks in my Kindle……so SWELTERING HOT!! Piper loves the asshole Noah in the bedroom, but he so desperately wants to show her the sweet guy too…..but Piper is fighting it and always leaves. She knows Noah is holding back, but so is she……will she decide to share her secrets and stay? Will Noah let her in all the way, or will letting her in put her in too great of danger? Crossing the Line is the first book in a new series from Maggie Cole…..this book is HOT and if you love some panty melting steam to go along with a great story line….GET THIS BOOK NOW!
This is the first book in the It’s Complicated series. Piper is the youngest candidate for VP in her company. She’s worked hard to get where she is. Then comes Noah Parker. The CEOs nephew. Coming to take over for his uncle. He’s sexy as hell, and just as arrogant. Piper tells herself she has to hate him. She can’t risk her career, and everything she’s worked for on him. But there is too much passion, and every look ignites a fire.
I absolutely loved this story. Just like I have every other story I’ve read by this author. You have amazing characters, a great story that draws you in, and all the steamy scenes you could want. What more can you ask for in a book? Looking forward to reading the next book in this series, and reading more from this author. I definitely recommend this book, and this author.
Noah is on a mission that nobody knows about but when he meets Piper, he wants her but also wants her to stay away. It doesn't help that he is her boss.
The story is romantic, emotional, with a lot of drama. It is gripping, relatable with lots of steamy scenes and great chemistry between the characters. The constant push and pull between them will make the book unputdownable. It is a highly recommended book for readers who like this genre. By the end, the readers would want to know what will happen between the next couple of the series, Xander and Charlotte.
Personal Take: I didn't expect to like this book but this story surprised me. There wasn't a lot of work place drama and more of their personal drama. I liked how strong the FC is in the story. It had amazing friendships and really great chemistry. I couldn't put this book down. I am really excited about the next of this series. Can't wait to read Charlotte and Xander's story❤️
