After 1,174 chapters, 2,564,000 words, and an entire month of reading, it’s finally over and I don’t think I’ll ever move on.
Li Hong Yuan and Jing Wan’s love story is beyond memorable. It took them two lifetimes to finally find happiness and when they did, it was nothing short of perfection. JW has to be one of the most level-headed characters I’ve encountered. Her interactions with her family, her adaptation to the world, just everything. It was amazing to see such a calm character falling head over heels. I’m glad she finally got her happy ending after having a terrible end in their first life.
LHY set the standard for an underdog yandere. He’s the epitome of a hateful bastard lol but somehow, he’s still hard to hate. The way he tricked everyone into underestimating him was hilarious. He had them in their toes. His sole longing for her made him defy even fate. Even though his love is crazy and obsessive, it’s lowkey tragic at the same time because all he wanted was for JW to be happy and to be with him. The lengths he went to prevent the tragedy from happening again and make her his set the bar. Where can I find a man like him??? Their happy ending was nothing short of well deserved, especially after so much pain in their first life.
I came for the romance but special shoutout to the plot. This novel has more politics than romance but I am not complaining. Even without the romance, the plot was addicting. The political scheming, court intrigue and strategizing made every moment gripping. I loved seeing LHY plot his way to the throne. The depth and attention to detail in this novel are phenomenal.
Kudos to the author for crafting such an intricate world. And special appreciation to the translator, whose translation made this experience even more incredible. Their quality translation played a huge role in how much I enjoyed this novel and I’m truly grateful for their efforts.

This is the biggest cn novels I've read in awhile. The reviews in novelupdates were also good. So I gave it a try and I don’t regret it.
This author did not go for any cliché tropes that most of the time the authors go for transmigrated female leads. Instead you'll seriously read it and the plot will just suck you in. The plotline is unpredictable. You don't have any idea what'll happen two chapters later. The readers won't have any idea when a minor supporting character will play a vital role in the story arc. The characters are not there just for the sake of it. There is ample amount of foreshadowing. If you like face slapping trope in cn novels then there is also a few moments. Though 70-80% story arc is about political intrigue, there is also many romantic moments of ML and FL. Thank God, it is this way. Trust me, if there were more moments between ML and FL, you'll get tired of it and can even feel somewhat repulsive.
I won't say much about this FL. For one, she is not really my favorite kind of female lead. Another thing is that, her character didn't have the scope to develop or shine, so that she could touch the readers. Her inner struggles and decisions, I can understand somewhat but in my opinion the other few supporting character had more beautiful arc than she did. Her kindness and 'don't care' attitude sometimes baffled me. Her involvement and imposing manner in her father and brother's life was somewhat overreaction. She really did dirty to her parents to some degree. Her parents didn't really wrong her but she was impatient with them most of the time (though at the end their relationship got closer somewhat). In this aspect, I give it to the author, she didn't try to justify her mentality. She is a bit op but it is in tolerable range, so that's okay.
The ML here (Li Hong Yuan) is more of a main character than the female lead. He is a reincarnater and tries to save the FL and make up for his past regrets (which I really like, like most of the time this pressures are reserved for the FLs). But he is not a standard ML either. He has all the characteristics that a villain should have. He is also has severe mental disorder. Now that I think about it, the villain that appear at the last segment of the novel, he has many many similarities with ML. Only If you read, you can understand. I won't spoil you. Honestly if the FL didn’t reciprocate his feelings, it would've been his villain origin story😆😆😆. Despite this bad of a character also has its fun sides. His retortes and actions sometimes will make you want to beat him up. Overall he is a not so perfect ML. Don't expect any sweet moments and expectations from this ML either or you'll be severely disappointed. He literally schemes against FL and her affection in every part of the novel.
There is various supporting characters with ample depth and despite ML's near op tyrannical abilities, they can contend against him. Though some characters annoyed me to no end like Sun YiJia. She is the FL best friend kinda character but her overinvolvement in FL's life and her comments about ML was unnecessary. She is selfish for her brother and I can understand it somewhat but I don't support it either. For her fifth brother (Sun YiLin), she disregarded another girl's pure feelings.
Many character development are seen throughout the novel. Among them, the character development of Chen Zheng Min is my favorite, in comparison, the author did dirty to Sun Yi Lin. He is a tragic character. His ending is perhaps the most sad and lamenting throughout the whole story arc. His ending and involvement in the later part of the novel wasn't really necessary. But on retrospect, maybe the author wanted to show that in reality the love that the ML and the FL shares is toxic. If the FL didn't accept ML then instead of romance genre, the novel would've gone for the mystery-thriller genre.
There isn't any novel that is perfect in a sense. This novel also has its drawbacks. It has some plotholes here and there but these aren't worth mentioning. There are many supernatural phenomenon in the later part of the novel, it is in tolerable range too. The author also completed the whole arc. There isn't any loose ends to nitpick either. In historical genre, this is one of the best chinese novel.
P.S:
The translator is awesome. Broken jinsei did a great job in translating. She gave many historical references and maps which will help you understand this novel better. If you are into cn novels and history and politics then, go for it.
This novel is still being translated. There is full mtl version too. After reading through the translated version of this novel, I couldn't really get through the mtl version. It was *hard*. You'll only get a basic understanding which is not enough for this novel. Sometimes I got irritated enough to throw my phone away. Only my darn curiosity towards the plotline kept me going. Honestly if the FL didn’t reciprocate his feelings, it would've been his villain origin story😆😆😆. Despite this bad of a character also has its fun sides. His retortes and actions sometimes will make you want to beat him up. Overall he is a not so perfect ML. Don't expect any sweet moments and expectations from this ML either or you'll be severely disappointed. He literally schemes against FL and her affection in every part of the novel.
There is various supporting characters with ample depth and despite ML's near op tyrannical abilities, they can contend against him. Though some characters annoyed me to no end like Sun YiJia. She is the FL best friend kinda character but her overinvolvement in FL's life and her comments about ML was unnecessary. She is selfish for her brother and I can understand it somewhat but I don't support it either. For her fifth brother (Sun YiLin), she disregarded another girl's pure feelings.
Many character development are seen throughout the novel. Among them, the character development of Chen Zheng Min is my favorite, in comparison, the author did dirty to Sun Yi Lin. He is a tragic character. His ending is perhaps the most sad and lamenting throughout the whole story arc. His ending and involvement in the later part of the novel wasn't really necessary. But on retrospect, maybe the author wanted to show that in reality the love that the ML and the FL shares is toxic. If the FL didn't accept ML then instead of romance genre, the novel would've gone for the mystery-thriller genre.
There isn't any novel that is perfect in a sense. This novel also has its drawbacks. It has some plotholes here and there but these aren't worth mentioning. There are many supernatural phenomenon in the later part of the novel, it is in tolerable range too. The author also completed the whole arc. There isn't any loose ends to nitpick either. In historical genre, this is one of the best chinese novel.
P.S:
The translator is awesome. Broken jinsei did a great job in translating. She gave many historical references and maps which will help you understand this novel better. If you are into cn novels and history and politics then, go for it.
This novel is still being translated. There is full mtl version too. After reading through the translated version of this novel, I couldn't really get through the mtl version. It was *hard*. You'll only get a basic understanding which is not enough for this novel. Sometimes I got irritated enough to throw my phone away. Only my darn curiosity towards the plotline kept me going. If you get angry over reading mtl translated novels, then perhaps you should wait for the full translated version.

This was the longest Chinese novel I've read. It was good, but there was certainly certain things that can reduce the length of this novel.

DNF at chapter 159...
So this was going well at first. I loved Luo Jing Wan and her grand parents. The Jin QinWang was growing on me. The political stuff was fairly interesting ... Not as good as Princess Wei Yang and not even in the same stratosphere as Empress of Military Lineage, but interesting. Plus, ML was a virgin in this life... Well, kind of. He remembers all of his concubines and tangfeis (think maids who he can sleep with) from the previous life but none of that should count, right?
I tried to get past the many references to the women he'd had before but his excitement over the fact that she was a virgin in both lives (yes, she was married in their first life but never slept with her husband 🙄) and would never be with anyone but him was just too much. His desire is to let her rule the world but a previous sex life is too much?! Miss me with the "he said it would have been okay" he was jealous of the idea of her being with someone else and wanted to kill the "other man" if he could find him.
I hate the double standard and I don't care about the time period. If she can die at 20 in the early 2000s and be "reborn" in ancient times, she shouldn't have been a never been kissed virgin (who had a bf she only held hands with!).
Knowing that arc where he is playing host to a entity that is drawn to another woman is coming... Just complete trash.

A fantastic story and so very long it took me 2 months to read it at 600+ chapters. I also have to give it to the translator's dedication. It took her 4 years of very thorough translation with tons of side notes and illustrations. An incredible work all done for free.
This would have been a 5 star read if I stopped reading at the main story arc, but their son and daughter stories were more like an afterthought so I didn't care for them much.
Overall, an excellent parallel world historical fantasy, and one of the more enjoyable ones. Loved the characters where the heroine was from our world in modern times where she died in her twenties but transmigrated into parallel world a few centuries back as a newborn while still retaining her original memories, and the main lead was reborn after living a whole life back to his 10 year old self to repeat the same life (and this parallel world is his original world). And he also was born suferfixated on the female lead as the one he loved all his life but in his original life she died young and tragically. So, basically, they are both weird and very particular and watching them living their lives very craftily was fun!
It's partly a novel of political intrigues in a fight for being an emperor, and partly a good large household novel akin to Story of Ming Lan (if you are into Chinese dramas). I read and watch a lot of Chinese dramas/novels, and this one was one of the more entertaining ones. Recommended.

This seems like the typical Chinese palace drama where the prince royals join forces with their supporting noble families to fight to be the next heir to the throne. The difference is one dominant prince is truly tyrannical and retaliates 10 times harder when he is offended. This prince has been banned from fighting for the throne, but, can’t be ignored. This made it interesting to continue reading as he face slaps the pampered princes and their extended families! His only weakness and number one goal after rebirth is to win the heart of the girl he was infatuated with in his previous life. Both characters are smart, funny and have memories of a previous life, not necessarily, the same life. They are unorthodox and are either fully hated or almost worshipped by the people around them. Their supporting secondary characters are interesting with some growth. The interactions between the dominant prince and his emperor father who overindulges him is hilarious. These characters kept me reading to the end.
