When technology has made Bible teaching more widely available than at any time in history, when the congregation you call your own can be as close as your computer screen--when it's virtually easier than ever to connect with God's Word and His people--where does that leave the geographically based local church? What role should a local congregation have in the lives of Christians? Does the local church still matter?
The short answer is, the local church is critically important--even essential to your spiritual growth and fulfilling the design God has for your life. In Your Local Church and Why It Matters, John MacArthur shows you why and how God's people are to function under the authority of the church for the work of His kingdom. This detailed study will invigorate your love for your local congregation and answer vital questions you probably have about what a church is--and what it's not.
John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
A must read! This book increased my love for the church and my understanding of the church, of its importance and key aspects. If Christians would read this booklet with a humble heart I think our churches would be filled with more Christians who are learning, growing, giving, and ministering to one another.
While there are some great points in this book, the emphasis seemed different than stated. I found it to be more of an exhortation for church goers to take membership and participation in the local body seriously and critiques of unhealthy practices rather than an explanation of the importance of the local body itself.
this little 26 page booklet is greatly insightful on why the church is important. The church should be a important part of the Christian's life, and this little booklet does it very well.
A book you you think you can finish in a weekend: This is more a booklet than an actual book, but helpful nonetheless! MacArthur covers the basics of why church is important, the dangers of "lone ranger Christianity," church membership, discipline, baptism, etc. By no means exhaustive, but as a booklet, it packs a lot of biblical information into a small package.
