Accidental Fall

Rate this book
When it comes to relationships, college roommates Greg and Keith are polar opposites. A recovering addict, Greg avoids sex because it’s too closely tied in his mind with the alcohol and drugs he gave up. In contrast, Keith protects his heart by limiting sex to one-night stands and weekend flings.

As the two get to know each other better, they feel drawn together, and slowly they take tentative steps toward something real. Their attraction soon flares hot, but Greg’s fears overwhelm him, sending him running. It’s up to Keith to help Greg learn to trust in himself—and in the way they feel about each other.

4,5 * Accidental Fall.... Well that was one fine little read.
The beginning is great so I'm right into this book.

Greg and Keith... Both young and already lived a life.
Both hesitant to start a relationship therefore sex is for both an issue, but with complete different reasons.
Greg struggles with addictions and Keith is protecting his heart.
They both have triggers.... and.....they live in the same room.

Keith is trying to seduce Greg for another of his one (or two) night stand.
The tension between them is strong...I love it.....the more the better
All the feelings between them I felt it.....all the body language...the faltering, the drooping, the flushed faces, the hitched breath, all those little signals. I loved the bubble.

Finally they get to know each other a bit and they really appreciate each other

The feelings....the build up, the tension and than...

"It might as well have been a firebomb dropped into a drought-stricken forest"

If only it could be that simple...or could it.....they already lived a life

I think Shae Conner did a good job in this short story, it had a good overview and the feelings like I said before were keenly felt. I personally would have loved some more struggle, I know, i know it's a short. Overall a good read.
Because of the short it left me also wanted to know more about them.

This one was cute, short and sweet, but if you've read the blurb, you've pretty much read the story, as there aren't many unexpected twists or turns.

I did enjoy this one; however, 57 pages isn't quite long enough to cover much ground, other than the main points mentioned in the book's description.

And I wanted more.

I adored the "first date" scene, plus the sexiness that ensued back at their room was pretty hot, if not a bit abbreviated. I would have liked more pages of slow burn feelings developing. Or, at the very least, a bit more slow grind. ;- )

Overall, this is a nice, 3-star filler story between longer reads for me, but I probably won't remember a lot about it in a week.

3.5 stars. "Accidental Fall" is a brief story about two college roommates, sophomores Greg and Keith. They each deal with sex and relationships in a different way - Keith keeps his sex life strictly separate from his school life, partying on the weekends and studying hard during the week. Greg avoids sex altogether because he fears it will be a trigger that returns him to the drugs and partying that left him in bad shape, as he says "like a few steps away from rehab bad."

Start with Keith's plans for a casual seduction, mix in their growing friendship, add a healthy dose of sexual chemistry, and Greg and Keith find themselves on the cusp of something more serious. Top it all off with a touch of last-minute angst and finish it with a sweet HFN ending. 57 pages doesn't allow for a huge amount of character development but "Accidental Fall" is a short glimpse into a sweet young adult romance, and a quick fun read.

First of all, I never read the first edition so I wouldn’t know if anything changed. I guess there isn’t because it rarely happens.

Greg and Keith were in a different ‘place’ in their lives … Greg was trying to clean-up his act at his new school after being involved with a lot of drinking, smoking, partying, and sex previously. While Keith was enjoying casual sex with others, even if he tried to separate his body and his heart. At first Keith wanted to be friends-with-benefits with Greg, but as he was wooing his roommate, he realized that his heart might be involved after all.

Awww, I thought this was sweet. For a novella, this was pretty slow-burn. Despite them being college boys and roommates, Greg and Keith didn’t get their freak on until late in the story. Mainly it was all because of Greg’s determination to avoid sex at all costs for fear that he would easily go back to his old ways. So I enjoyed reading about them getting to know each other better, including Keith’s attempts for romancing Greg.

It was an easy, light-on-angst story – which was definitely good for something in between more serious/heavy novels. Greg and Keith were both likable young men. The ending might be HFN but I was okay with that since this was basically a beginning of a new relationship for the two of them

This was a uber slow burn for this amount of pages. You would think it would be a full length novel with the pacing of the story. Both characters have their backstory and it's pretty good for the length. I was a little conflicted about "why now?" What was so special about now, that they decided to act on their feelings for one another. Initially I got passed that. Greg has all these reservations about Keith. He notices things like him partying only on the weekends. I didn't see an issue with it. The man is in college and focused during the week, what's wrong with blowing off some steam during the weekend? I know where Greg is coming from since he used to do all this and it's why he transferred to another school. He's walking the straight and narrow plank.

I thought Keith's plan of seduction was hilarious. He had a plan on what to do with Greg, and how to get him. I do think it was a little mean to try to keep enticing Greg. LOL. He made all the obvious retorts, but by the end he gave in. Keith had shown a different side to him, and a vulnerability and I think it's what sold Greg to him. It was sweet short new adult story. Both guys have time to grow and figure out if this is what they want. I enjoyed it.

This story was as much fun to read as the first time. The two men, Greg and Keith, each have their own personal rationale for not wanting to fall in love - ever, and especially not with their roommate. Their reasons are very different but both men have a valid position. I thought the battle they fight against themselves, their preconceived ideas, and their pasts were valiant, if totally misplaced. Thank God love is stronger than all that, or nobody would ever find a partner.

This review can be found at Brief Encounters Reviews.

The blurb here pretty much gives you the set-up. Greg has transferred to Chicago to go to school because he was basically going down a very bad path, as he describes it, about two steps from re-hab, when some tough love on his mother’s part set him straight. He likes his roommate Keith well enough, not that he knows him really, but he knows Keith spends every weekend drinking and having sex, something Greg is determined to stay away from now he’s got his life sorted out.

When they finally reveal to each other they are gay, both go from just thinking “I have a good-looking roommate” to “I have a good-looking roommate I could have sex with”. Greg is determined to avoid this, even though now he’s really getting to know Keith he likes him, and Keith’s plan is simply to set up a nice friends with benefits situation. However as Keith gets to know Greg, he starts to realize it might not be that easy, either to get Greg to agree or to keep it as superficial as he’d like.

I liked this story quite a bit. Both guys are normal young men, who are or have experimented with the freedom that college offers. Both behave as they do for different reasons. While Greg’s family loves him, growing up in a small town where everyone is family and knows your business is a lot of pressure and Keith has a more of an out of sight out of mind relationship with his step-mom. They both have fairly valid reasons for their behaviours, even it means they are rather not on the same track when it comes to each other.

I liked that Greg didn’t just “get over” his issues and that he was afraid of going backward should he start down the road. Would sex lead to partying to drugs, to alcohol? While perhaps illogical, I always try to remember, these are 19-year-old kids. It was nice to see Keith change his perceptions as he got to know Greg too. He started with one idea and had to gradually change his plan of “attack” to fit the person he got to know.

It’s not overly angsty, nor is it overly plot driven. It’s two guys, who despite sharing a small dorm room, finally take the time to get to know who the other is, and over a couple of weeks have to decide if they want to make some changes in their lives. I like both young men and when you are in the mood for a nice contemporary read with an easy flowing writing style, I think it’s quite appealing.

A sweet and sexy story about young love: Greg and Keith are college roommates; they don’t know each other very well, they don’t even know to being both gay. What Greg knows is that Keith behaves like a good boy during the week, to then enjoy his weekends in a midst of sex and alcohol. Greg is not a saint, but he is in self-imposed rehabilitation: after a late teens and beginning of college in which Greg drunk too much and rebelled to his family, he took the decision to change city and degree, and behave. Keith is a living temptation he cannot afford.

I like how the author maintained the mood of the story light and sweet; both Greg and Keith had some trouble in their teen years, but nothing tragic and nothing that could really prevent them to be happy now. Plus both of them are ordinary guys, good looking but no fake-model type; they are young, they made some mistakes in their past, and they are now building the basis for a good future. Exactly like many other thousands of guys of the same age.

Another point I liked is that these guys are romantic at heart, they want love and roses, boyfriend and kisses; sure the sex is good, but that is not what they will bring back, and along, into their life. I can imagine these two in 40 years still being together, and happy.

LOVED THIS BOOK!! It was a tender love story about two college guys who had inner demons, reacted differently to the inner demons, became roommates, then friends, then lovers. It was a great progression, and it seemed to be the right length! It was a 'mostly' HEA, but with the troubles they both face in the book, separately & together, they committed to working through them together, which makes it a HEA in my book. I'm biased in that I love college guys stories (especially friends to lovers), but these characters struggled with real-life issues in the book, which makes it more 'real' to me.

In a word: Read the thing. This is a cute roommates-to-lovers story (oh my god, they were ROOMMATES) that I think missed out on so much (maybe unnecessary) angst just because of its shorter length. Greg and Keith are roommates in college, and have been for about a few months, I gather. They aren’t in the same classes and don’t really run in the same circles, and so don’t really spend all that much time together or know each other very well. All Greg knows about Keith is that he disappears every weekend to have sex and party, and all Keith knows about Greg is that he doesn’t seem to do that at all. Neither of them really make an effort to get to know the other, until one weekend where they have an actual conversation and discover that they’re both gay. Greg, who has a negative history surrounding sex and drugs and booze, doesn’t really feel the need to act on this new information. But Keith, who still delights in sex and partying, and finds Greg attractive, decides that he now has an opportunity to get into Greg’s pants and starts to take steps to make it happen. Trying to seduce Greg isn’t easy, however; and though Keith is determined to only sleep with Greg and keep his feelings and his sex life completely separate, he ends up developing feelings for Greg anyway. Same with Greg, who still equates sex with his former drug and alcohol addictions and is wary about getting involved with someone as casual as Keith seems to be, but still finds himself falling for Keith. There’s a bit of awkwardness and a bit of angst, but ultimately there’s a happy ending. The story definitely didn’t go as far as it could have with the angst or any misunderstandings, and both Keith and Greg’s backstories could’ve been fleshed out a lot more (Greg’s former addictions are really only touched on), but for what it is it’s a cute little story about two young men learning about love and taking chances.

Ok, so… this is the first book I’ve read by this author and it took me a little bit to get into it at first; dunno if it was my mood or what but it just didn’t grab me. I’m glad I stuck it out though, if you like college age romances, then you’ll like this one!
See, Greg and Keith are college roommates and about as opposite as two people can get; they didn’t know each other well in the beginning. Greg had come away to college to straighten up. His mom had told him she loved him too much to see him throw his life away and that’s what he was doing.

Keith was at college since his step-mom moved them to Chicago after his father died. He was pretty straight laced during the week but the weekends he let go. His stepmom didn’t seem to concerned as long as he stayed out of her way and gave him an allowance for whatever he needed; so, he stuck around and had his fun on the weekends. Where Greg was done with the party life lifestyle, not drugs or anything but sleeping around for sport and fun. Keith made that his job on the weekends. I didn’t like him much at first. I don’t like the term “seduce”…. He wanted to seduce Greg, get him to hook up… I knew that end badly, they live together already!!! What is that about not s**ting where you eat?.... I mean seriously…..That had bad idea written all over it….. and you could see they were attracted to each other. Both of them were hot in their own ways according to the other one.

It really bothered me that in one sentence Keith would say how cool Greg was, how he liked his personality and spending time with him but then would be like…. My plan is to seduce him. That’s just such a douche thing to do in my opinion lol Somehow in all that though and the boys spending more time together talking and getting to know each other little bits by little bits, Keith started wanting to take Greg out and getting to know him instead of jumping in bed with him; even though the douche part of himself still claimed he just wanted to sleep with him. …. I think Greg was so relatable to me because I’ve been down the road that leads nowhere and pulling myself back from it and cutting myself off from temptations of my 20’s was a lot harder than expected. I respected him that he done it and continued to even though the guy he liked was a good time kinda guy.

Theeeen, Greg did what he said he wouldn’t do and Keith turned into the guy that he didn’t want to and after a really hot night together, some confessions and a few tears; we get our HFN.

I can’t say I was rootin for this couple; it is very much a college romance and romances rarely last that young. But it was a cute short story of these two guys maybe falling for each other.
3.5 for me!

Review:
This was a very fast read. Now that the new school year is in full swing. This may be a book to read to distract you from your studies. The plot has two college roommates finding out that they share more than a room. As their friendship starts to grow so does the attraction to one another. Both Greg and Keith have issues from their past. Each one is dealing in their own way. As they begin to become more confident with each other, they both struggle with letting go of their carefully built wall. The chemistry it sweet and shy at first building as the story progresses. The story has a pretty steady pace with a HEA ending.

3.5 Stars ~ Accidental Fall is a sweet and quick story with a very little angst. The blurb pretty much captures what the book is about, and there weren’t really any unexpected twists or surprises to be found. This was a mostly charming story, though I will admit I am sucker for angst, and I would perhaps have preferred a tad bit more of the drama. Though I acknowledge fifty-seven pages doesn’t leave much time to accomplish an in-depth plot or a lot of character development. What the story provides is a glimpse at a sweet romance that grows between two young college guys who start out as acquaintances, and eventually find more. It was just enough to keep me satisfied.

Both characters were developed fairly well given the shorter length of the story. Keith, with his misplaced plan of seduction for a little bump and grind—only to find he actually likes Greg; and Greg, with his running from Keith, as well as his emerging feelings for the man who can’t seem to keep his clothes on in their room.

Their relationship would technically be considered a slow-burn if you take into account the timeline. However, the story progresses quickly and chapters jump weeks at a time, so that slow-burn occurring between Keith and Greg isn’t on-page. I generally like to read more of the build-up for my MCs, so it felt a little hasty, even though timewise it actually wasn’t. The time spent on page with Keith and Greg was entertaining and their progression from barely acquaintances to somewhat friends, and eventually more, kept me reading. They both are young adults (sophomores in college), and I felt their maturity coincided with their age and the situations they both have been through. Shae Connor did a pretty respectable job of keeping the behavior and thoughts realistic, which is something I appreciate. Greg appears to be more mature, his focus on school and staying away from anything that could trigger a relapse. His past has made him a little more on the responsible side, while at the same time it’s the reason he is skittish of Keith. He is focused on his education and doesn’t want to lose sight of that particular priority. Keith, on the other hand, seems to be a little more carefree (on the weekends) and, to me, a little more rebellious and selfish in the beginning. He takes his education seriously, but he also isn’t after anything serious with another person, preferring to just have fun and keep his school and fun-times separate.

If you are looking for a cute and quick read that doesn’t get too angsty and leaves you with a smile, this story could definitely be for you.

There is some books out there that when you are done reading them that you find yourself just smiling, well this is one of them for me. I really enjoyed this book.

Greg in my opinion is very scared. He is scared to live again because he is scared he will revert back to the ways that he used to be with sex, partying, and drugs. So he has pretty much shut himself up to hopefully prevent it from happening again. His life revolves basically around school and nothing else because of his fear. Basically I don't think he has enough faith in himself to stay on the right path if temptation arises.

Keith in my opinion takes hooking up to a new level. I believe that is his fall to because he is scared of getting to close to anyone and getting hurt. Keith has lost everyone he has ever cared about (his mom, his dad, and his first and only real boyfriend). After losing them I believe he decided having no strings attached is better because he does not take a chance to get too involved with his heart that way.

Greg and Keith are roommates in college and even though both men have tried to keep their distance from one another because of the attraction they feel for the other, it seems the universe has different ideas for them. No matter how much they both try to push the other away because of their own issues, they just cannot seem to do it. They both find themselves falling more and more and both have to deal with their issues or they have to decide to move on.

This was a quick read but at the same time it had the impact that I think that Shaw Connor was hoping for, or at least it did for me. Even though this was a short story their was a lot of emotion out into this book and I felt it coming off of the pages, just as I felt how both Greg and Keith tried to fight and deny what they felt for one another. Like I said this book was one that left me smiling when I was done reading it and I would recommend it to others to read in a heartbeat. It was a wonderful read.

This story’s title is very fitting. The two guys, Greg and Keith, each have their own personal rationale for not wanting to fall in love, ever, and especially not with their roommate. Their reasons are very different but both men have a valid position. I thought the battle they fight against themselves, their preconceived ideas, and their pasts were valiant, if totally misplaced. Thank God love is stronger than all that, or nobody would ever find a partner.

Greg has done it all, lost the plot in terms of sex, alcohol, and drugs. Determined to turn a new leaf, he will NOT be swayed by his sexy roommate. The guy is out every weekend anyway, and probably not interested in a boring guy like Greg. Except, Keith is too sexy for words, and when he starts being nice as well – how is Greg supposed to fight that? He does his best, but…

Keith is the quintessential party boy, and believes sex is best when it’s casual. Relationships are for when he’s older. He fell in love once and couldn’t deal with the pain when the other boy’s family moved away, so he decided not to make that mistake again. Except – there is something about Greg that speaks to him. He decides to start a ‘campaign’ to lure him into his bed, but as he gets to know him better and realizes that Greg is a really nice guy, he isn’t so sure that is fair… to Greg or to himself.

Not all the issues get solved by the end of the story. There are some real issues remaining, mainly for Greg, who is scared of falling back into old habits. But I liked the way they decide to face whatever comes their way together –that s the whole point about a working relationship. If you’re looking for a story about real guys with real issues, if you like them to have a past that influence current behaviors, and if a slowly growing sexual and emotional tension that grips you and doesn’t let you go are your thing, you will probably like this story.

College roommates Greg and Keith appear to be complete opposites. Greg is a reformed partier and Keith spends his weekends partying. Greg gave up drugs, alcohol and sex and decides he needs to try to get to know his roommate and offer him some support to stop him from taking the path Greg took. Keith didn't really notice his roommate, he was too busy with school and sex on the weekends. When Greg decides to friend Keith, Keith notices how good looking he is and soon begins to question if maybe he should give up his ways and instead focus on one person.

This is a short story set in the life of two college boys. Though there are some differences among the two boys, they seem to have a lot in common. They both work to become friends and Keith sets out to court Greg. Though Greg is reticent about sex, Keith convinces him that he's interested in more than a one night stand and both boys quickly accept that they may have found more than expected.

I think short stories can be harder for readers to connect with the characters. There is only so much time to introduce characters, issues, and love story before it's ending. I don't think this is a whole love story wrapped up in the pages but seems to be a short span of time of these two boys' life. Really, unless another book comes out making this a series, the reader has the option of deciding if this is the HEA for these two or it's just a short hook-up among college boys.

After going off the rails his freshman year of college, Greg transfers to a new school in a new state. He cleans up his act, no more drinking or drugs and if he is going to have sex it's going to have to be meaningful, no more casual hook-ups. Greg's roommate, Keith, is everything Greg used to be. He spends his weekends out clubbing and picking up random guys to sleep with. When Keith discovers Greg is also gay, he sets his sights on him as his next conquest.

I absolutely loved Greg, but Keith, well, I wanted to punch him in the face throughout most of the story. He knows Greg's background, yet he continues to try to lure him into bed. He was kind of a twat, but by the end of the story, he had me swooning, too!!

This was a very enjoyable read. It was a short, one-sitting read, that was well-written and well-paced. For such a short story, I thought the characters were pretty well developed. They had a great chemistry and they made me want to root for love! I wish we had gotten a bit of a more solid ending. Anyone that's ever read my reviews knows I like my HEA, wrapped in a bow and double knotted, so it won't come apart, but I was still left feeling the warm and fuzzies when I closed this book. Very recommendable!!

While Keith and Greg seem like total opposites, they actually have a few things in common. They're both college students, they're both gay and they both have a troubled past they are trying to put behind them... they both just want to move on. If they paid enough attention to each other, they'd know the pull to one another, the attraction is mutual as well. When Keith finally figures out Greg is gay, he lays the seduction technique on pretty thick. Will his charm pull Greg in? Or drive him away?

This was a fast paced read with a good bit of content for so few pages. I enjoyed the dash of suspense as the layers are slowly pulled back, learning what had happened to each young man that put them on the path that led them to each other. There were a couple of times that the story didn't connect well from one scene to the next, a bit choppy I guess you'd say. The shared chemistry and the heady scene when they finally stopped fighting the inevitable was very moving.

If you're looking for a fast, fun read with modicum of angst, you should consider grabbing a copy of Fall. I give this one 3.5 stars... but that's just my two cents.

I think 4 stars may be generous, but since I read all of the Hot College Daze novellas in a row and I enjoyed the group of novellas as a whole, it was at times hard to review the individual novellas as standalone books. This was not my favorite book in this collection, but I enjoyed it. Greg and Keith are college roommates but they don't really know each other. All Greg knows is that Keith takes off every weekend and comes back reeking of smoke, alcohol, and sex. When they both discover that the other is gay, all of a sudden their perceptions of each other really become altered. Keith immediately sees Greg as a possible friend-with-benefits situation where he doesn't have to get too attached but no longer has to go off campus to "wet his whistle". Greg, however, is looking for something more. Can these two guys get on the same page?

I enjoyed this short, but it wasn't as developed as the other novellas in this collection. It was still a fun read as part of this collection.

Accidental Fall is a sweet, fluffy, fun read. Two roommates, both with secrets finding love from each other.

Greg suffers from addiction. He’s fought hard to better himself and refuses to allow himself to slip back into the darkness. One thing he steers clear from is sex.

Keith is a by the book guy during the weekday. He goes to class, dresses nice, is an all-around sweetheart. On the weekend he goes on the prowl and pretty much is all about the one night stands. Everything Greg wants to avoid.
However, you can’t fight an attraction like theirs. It’s not easy and there’s some push and pull to this relationship.

I found the story to be cute. A little fast and the end very abrupt. Though there was closure I felt that the end didn’t sync with Greg’s feelings and thoughts. But it was very entertaining and like I said it was fun.

So if you like a quick read that is happy and filled with love then this is the book for you.

This is a sweet story about college room mates. Both have had some difficulty growing up - for vastly different reasons. Greg went wild his first year of college and he's now on the straight and narrow - no drugs, no drinking, no sex. Keith compartmentalizes his life - school during the week, fun with no strings on the weekend. Until Keith thinks maybe he'd like to have Greg - at least in his bed. But it's not a game and they could both get hurt.

Nicely done!

This was enjoyable short novella about new found love true the student years. Both main characters,Greg and Keith, were easy and likable. It was funny how Keith wanted only to seduce Greg, but has fallen in love with him. It was a bit to short, but enjoyable plotted.

Pretty good tale of two roommates finding love. I liked the gradual development of the relationship from a casual conversation to genuine feelings.
