Hook, Line, & Vital Signs is the second book in the Bay City Medical series with a new cast of characters and cameos from your favorites from book one. It has a guaranteed HEA and no cliffhanger.
I was attracted to this book at my favorite book review site because I am an RN, and I will admit to having a weakness for romances that have a medical setting. The heroine is an ER nurse and the hero is a CAT scan specialist. Right off the bat, unfortunately, I noticed some things that didn't seem right about the medical aspect, about how things work in the hospital these days. I run across that far too often in fiction books. With the interconnectedness of people on the internet, I would think that authors could actually reach out to nurses and other medical people so that those aspects of their books would ring true. Seriously, does any ED use paper charts these days?
I did not like the hero. He was far too much of a jerk towards the heroine at the start of the book, and the author was not able to successfully rehabilitate him for me. The two had had a previous relationship that went south, but he pretended like he didn't really remember her when they meet up again at the hospital. Then he seemed more interested in pursuing her cousin. Ick. Not hero material in my book. All around, I found this to be a disappointing book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Mallory Locke rn.She works the ER at the hospital in the town she grew up in.She left her husband divorced him .He was mentally and physically abusive but the only person that knew that secret was her friend and room mate. She made her swear to keep her secret. One night she took a patient to ct for a scan when she stopped in her tracks the man standing there was Drew the guy who broke her heart years before. He said he didn;t remember her and it hurt so bad to be honest she still loved Drew. How could he forget her he broke her heart all over again. She guessed that the love she felt must have been one way .Drew couldn;t believe it Mallory the girl that broke his heart. He remembered her in fact he still loved her but felt guilty because his wife had died years before .He told his friend Jake the other guy that worked CT he knew Mallory when he asked why he lied he told him she broke his heart years before .There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see whats next by this multi talented author. The suspense, violence, but then theres love and healing.

What a great addition to the series. This is book 2 of the series but can be read as a stand alone. I loved Drew and Mallorys story. This was a book about second chances and was a fantastic read.
Easy to fall in love with characters, especially Drew. Mallory took a wee bit longer, but only because she lets herself be manipulated, but I still couldn't help but feel for her. Strong and entertaining story line, engaging dialogue, and nice descriptions of detail.
All in all, a fantastic read. Written as a 3rd person, multi pov with a HEA.
Would I recommend this book? Yes

Mallory couldn't believe her eyes... Her childhood love was back and working at the same hospital as her. But he didn't remember her.....
Drew knew that face but couldn't let on. They had fallen out and it had hurt... Since then a lifetime had passed, both had been married and he had lost his wife, ending up a single dad.
This short novella returns a pair of divided childhood sweethearts that had missed their turn it blends it with her dark past and answers the questions they forgot to ask when they were young.
With it's short length it felt rushed and missed oppourtunities to really develop their rekindled love. It was cute but it could have been so much better.

Drew and Mallory grew up together and secretly care for each other until his family moved away. Years later he returns with his daughter Corrine and goes to work at the same hospital as Mallory. After divorcing her abusive ex husband Mallory has no intention of risking another relationship. Their old feelings return and although Mallory fights it they are drawn to each other. Just as things are progressing nicely Mallory's ex turns up determined to make her go back to him and threatens to harm Drew is she doesn't. Loved this story.

This was a 3.5 star for me. I upgraded because it was well written. The book started off good, misunderstandings yes. But once those were cleared up I thought great, this is going to be good. But at 66%or 67% Mallory turned into a not so smart person. Come on your EX husband breaks in, starts roughing you up , threatens new boyfriend and you don't have him arrested? It took minor brain damage to bring her to her senses. After that things were wrapped up quickly with a hea. Overall an ok read.
This is a short new addition to the "Bay City Medical" romance stories. It's not to short but just right and more novella length. This is a emotional and good second chance romance with some suspense, romance and danger. I love the characters! Mallory, is an ER nurse trying to escape her past. Drew lost his wife and now is a single father to his daughter. Mallory and Drew have a past but can they get a second chance? Overall rally good story. I have enjoyed both of the "Bay City Medical" stories!
Drew and Mallory grew up together until they broke each other’s heart and his family moved away. Years later he moves back after his wife died with his daughter Corrine and goes to work at the hospital where Mallory works. They try to ignore each other but they are drawn to each other but then some twists come into the story such as assuming he is married and her ex husband returning wanting her back.

Hook, Line & Vital Signs by Florella Grant is the first book I've read by this author and it will keep you engaged from start to finish. Drew and Mallory attractions was strong and their chemistry generated lots of sparks. The storyline was engaging and offered a solid amount of drama, mystery, action and emotional turmoil as the couples relationship evolves into more than they ever imagined.

The writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole story, I found myself in love with not only the characters but also the world that was created.
The descriptions of the characters and their feelings are so involved, you can truly picture it in your mind. Their attitudes toward the events that are happening makes the story even richer.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
Mallory and Drew hated each due to miscommunications and misunderstandings, but that doesn’t stop the attraction between them. Mallory has a scary past that comes back to haunt her in this book. I’m surprised she’s not more broken than she is. Drew’s daughter Corrine was adorable and so cute about taco night. There was plenty of suspense and romance in this medical drama.
Book 2 of this great series revolves around Drew and Mallory. The story grabs your attention and you won't want to put it down. You can't go wrong with drama, chemistry, sparks between the characters, emotion and of course romance. Highly recommend.
