Every day, thousands of people turn sixty-five – some feel excitement, some feel scared, most feel both. While many may still work, raise children or pursue their career goals, most of these pressures are fading into the past. People realize that they will likely live for decades longer and are starting to have serious questions. If you are in this situation, you may be asking • What am I going to do with my time? • Will I have enough money to enjoy my life? • What can I do to stay healthy? Drawing on years of research, interviews and analysis, Tom Wilson gives you what you need to address these questions, and many more. Real-life insights bring the research findings to life and the step-by-step guides help you create a Master Plan based on your needs, wants and circumstances. From finances to relationships to developing a new sense of identity, this comprehensive guide to retirement will help you prepare for and enjoy this exciting next stage of life.
I really like that the book approaches retirement as a reinventing of your adulthood. Retirement does not mean that your life is over, in fact, in some cases it is quite the opposite. This book let's you know where you have been, where you are, and where you are going. This book would be a wonderful gift for anyone reaching the age of retirement.
This book has some helpful info for planning an active retirement, but I am unable to finish it. It's glib, repetitive & poorly written, so as an editor I balk at every paragraph. I made it to p. 120, which was a herculean effort. Jumped and read the last page, which I enjoyed.
Sometimes it helpful to have someone who can provide a framework for organizing your thoughts and ideas. Especially when facing important life decisions.
NEXT STAGE is helpful when you begin to consider some of the important questions involved in retirement, like: • What do you want to do with your time? • Will you have enough money? • Who do you want to live with? • How do you stay healthy? • Who are you going to be?
Combining research and anecdotal information excerpted from interviews, author Tom Wilson outlines a way to think through your approach to your final decades and how to make them as enjoyable and intentional as possible.
There are suggestions to help you stay healthy, practical ideas about budgeting, hobbies you might pick up, ways to assess and evaluate your current lifestyle, and tools to help you develop a "Master Plan" for your future.
This self-help book does not, however, provide answers for everyone. As the author readily admits, it's primarily targeted to those who have achieved a reasonable amount of professional success, enough so that they find themselves financially secure as they enter retirement. Practically speaking, financial security does, after all, increase the options for leisure time.
The writing style is accessible. The anecdotes interesting. And the exercises are sure to help you be more intentional in your thinking. At the very least, that will keep your final decades from unfolding without any thought.
