The reviews had warned me so going in I knew the heroine is so naive, innocent and utterly besotted with the hero. She is also accident prone towards the hero, that it made me chuckle. I quite liked the heroine and even the grumpy rakish hero who despite everything acted honorably towards Lettie. The whole smuggler plot was hilarious and I loved how the wicked witch aunt did all of it. Even Lettie's dog was hilarious.

Bewitching was a better book. Dreaming was humorous, but I'm mad Richard never had to win Letty. He says super hateful evil things to her & she still comes back. Not cool.

It's done! I finally read this book after a week!

My question exactly.
Yikes. I cringed. I got second-hand embarrassed, holy shit I never seen a heroine so naive! So relentless and basically a pick me girl AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH our hero kept humiliating her, all the insults went over her head and her love just grew stronger and stronger.
Enter Letitia, mother of all pick me girls!
She has been in love with the neighbor's second son pretty much all her life and all of London knows about it.
She made herself an utter fool for Richard and made his life a living hell because both of them are the laughingstock of the ton because all she does is making trouble for Richard and he doesn't have the heart to ignore her despite how much of nuisance she is to him.
It's a major pitiful situation!
But it'll get worse, because after two years Richard is back as Earl of Downe and our heroine is hellbent to make him hers.
In Letty's pathetic attempt, One things led to another and now they are kidnapped by smugglers.
The whole book was a battle between Letitia crying over Richard and stoop to another low while Richard keep being an ass to her and steal kisses here and there and then say "Stay away from me. I'm evil." And all that shit.
But Letitia, God love her, she is not having it. She must have Richard at all costs. Even if he just let her be part of his life not his heart. (That's a quote straight from the book btw.)
Pride? Who is she? We don't know her.

I loved to see Alec and Joy again.
Neil my baby boy being his sweet self got his own happy ending AND I AM FOR EVER BITTER WHY THIS BOOK WASN'T ABOUT HIM ENTIRELY!
And the real stars of this book Phineas, Philbert, and Phelim the triplets who suck at being smugglers 😫💖 they own my heart!

I liked the first one much better. The disaster-prone heroine relentlessly pursues the hero and confesses her love to him every single time, whereas the hero is always a mean jerk to her. Also, where's the groveling? 🧐🧐🧐

When I read this book the first time, directly after Bewitching, I found it to be a bit annoying. But recently I went back and reread Bewitching and I thought I'd revisit this book, mainly because I remembered I loved the ending so much. It definitely improved on second reading (that's never happened to me before!) and I found that I ended up enjoying the whole book way more than the first time. I still love the ending; one of the sweetest I can remember. I couldn't help be be enchanted how it ended up!
Bewitching is connected with the same characters but it isn't necessary to read it first to enjoy this book. I will tell you though that you'll enjoy this book more if you do read Bewitching first as it sets the scene for these two lovers in this book. It's no hardship to read Bewitching in any event, it's one of the most enchanting books I've ever read!

This was just too ridiculous... Unfortunately I was just ready to throw it down and not pick it up again... she was just too clutzy and innocent... and it just got annoying... I was hoping for better especially with the recommendations I got with it. I guess not my cup of tea!

La protagonista è Letty, una giovane donna particolarmente sprovveduta, sognatrice e avventata (una sfigata, direbbero oggi i giovani) così incauta e sbadata da rimanere sempre coinvolta in disastri e gaffes a non finire.
È perdutamente innamora di Sir Richard Downe, un libertino dedito alle donne e al gioco, e sogna, in ogni minuto della sua vita, che un giorno questi venga a prenderla in sella al suo cavallo bianco e la strappi alla sua noiosa e solitaria esistenza di campagna; Letty è infatti orfana di madre e con un padre sempre occupato in scavi archeologici.
Letty è una giovane donna tenera come una bambina, ma pericolosa come un uragano e Sir Richard l’ha per questo soprannominata birbante.
Proprio la sua ossessione per il giovane la porterà ad attenderlo nella notte, mentre a cavallo sta rientrando a rotta di collo nella sua dimora, dalla quale mancava da anni, e provocherà una catastrofe di proporzioni inimmaginabili.

"Quella birbante della Hornsby lo scrutava dall’alto. I loro occhi s’incrociarono. Lui la guardò con orrore. Lei lo guardò come se fosse il suo zuccherino per il tè. Richard chiuse gli occhi con un grugnito e abbassò la pistola. “Richard,” Letty sussurrò il suo nome come se fosse una preghiera. Con lei nei paraggi, era lui ad aver bisogno di una preghiera - una lunga preghiera. Ci fu un altro fruscio e un ringhio feroce. Richard soffocò un altro gemito quando un’enorme e flaccida testa canina spuntò da quegli stessi cespugli. Il suo cane. Ma quale preghiera. Aveva bisogno di una benedizione."
Allora!!!!!!!!!!!!!Che ve ne pare di questa premessa? Io l’ho trovata adorabile, esilarante, frizzante e spumeggiante, proprio come una coppa fresca di champagne.
La Barnett ci ha abituati a questo suo stile fluido, magnetico, che ti calamita in ogni parola, in ogni scena.
I suoi protagonisti ti avvincono e ti fanno sorridere, provocandoti emozioni, siano esse allegre, tristi, farcite di gioia, spensieratezza e tanta, tanta dolcezza.
"Lei rise. Il vento catturò il suono e lo portò fino in cima alla chioma degli olmi, facendo volare via alcune colombe. Richard adorava il suono di quella risata. Era melodiosa, gioiosa e piena di vita."
L’amore, come sempre, ha il suo predominio nei romanzi della Barnett ed è palpabile in ogni parola, Robert mi ha stregato, mi ha ammaliato e mi ha fatto innamorare dell’amore.
"Glielo aveva detto oggi? Le aveva detto che l’amava? “Ti amo,” le disse con voce roca, ormai senza fiato.
La guardò, non con gli occhi, ma con la memoria: una ragazzina che lo fissava da un ponte. Una giovane donna visibilmente innamorata che gli ballava attorno durante una danza campestre, gli sorrideva, e poi andava nella direzione sbagliata. Vide una birbante che lo guardava piena di rimorso e gli diceva, “Ti ho sparato,” La stessa birbante che gli aveva detto, “Ti amo.” Vide la donna che lo riteneva coraggioso e sapeva che lui aveva un cuore, per quanto si fosse sforzato di convincerla del contrario. Vide una donna che credeva nelle fiabe e nei sogni che si avverano, che aveva cieca fiducia in coloro che amava. Vide sua moglie. La sua vita."
Ho amato Joy e Alec, in Una ragazza incantevole, dove Richard ha avuto una parte rilevante nel romanzo precedente e, il nome di Letty mi aveva incuriosita, pur essendo stato solo sussurrato , in qualche maniera, ed è per questo che sono stata felicissima di leggere la loro storia che vi consiglio, caldamente, perché è una di quelle avventure in cui vi divertirete con tutti i suoi protagonisti e, in aggiunta, per rendere il tutto ancora più bello, ritroverete la nostra adorabile Joy.

Actually, my rating's closer to 3 1/2 stars, only because I read the kindle edition which had annoying typos throughout and because overall the story was tad conventional BUT I was surprised into liking Letitia. She initially comes across as being extremely 'blonde' despite her chestnut-hair. The first part of the novel is one mishap after another, a kind of slapstick muddle-up that very nearly made me categorize her as too-stupid-to-live. Yet. Yet, her genuine love for the victim of her disasters, Richard, is so, so unabashed, so unconditional that I found myself rooting for her. Motherless and friendless for most of her 19 years, she has not learned social graces but the lesson she has taken to heart comes here (I don't think I'm spoiling): "You think I'm a child and I know nothing about the world or about love. But I know about love. I know about loss. And I know about loneliness, and goodbyes, and about never being able to voice those feelings again."

This is a tale of a young girl who falls in love with the Earl next door. She makes his life miserable for years, and in modern days would absolutely have a restraining order against her.
The first half of this book is painful. Like, start skimming pages, almost DNF painful. I'm embarrassed for/by Lettie and how she stalks Richard. I genuinely feel bad for Richard, who's handled his own discomfort and humiliation over the years pretty well. The storyline is rediculous. Just painful.
The tone changes in the second half, mostly because Richard starts to show his true colors. He intentionally says the meanest and most hurtful things he can think of, and becomes a grade A jerk. The ever-forgiving Lettie just takes it. Over and over...
Yes, we start to understand her more. Yes, we see why Richard is the way he is. But he never really earns her love. This is a half written story, that relies on a little humor here and there to keep it from falling apart.

Funny in an innocent, innocuous fashion. Although at times, his disdain for her, and her constant attraction for disaster did get a bit old, which ruined a bit of the chemistry for me. Love scenes were a bit "normal" nothing too out of the ordinary. But all in all an enjoyable read, lighthearted and funny.

Eh, this wasn't horrible. I felt bad for her but it was hard not to think of her as this desperate, pathetic creature. I wish she made him work for it at the end. But it would not have been in keeping with her character if she suddenly played it aloof. Silliness aside, I found this enjoyable. (it would've been nice if Belmore's brother had been mentioned.)

This book was hilarious and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys slapstick humor. If the OTT-ness was dialed down just a smidge, it would have been a perfect 5-star read for me.
Call me a sadist but I love it when a Hero is at the Heroine’s complete mercy and gets dragged into trouble because of her hijinks and antics. Oh my...are my kinks showing?
ANYWAY, there were also so many lovely, beautifully written passages that I found myself highlighting. Probably the most highlighting I’ve ever done so far in a book! The lovescenes were amazingly hot too! I definitely want to check out more from this author.

Una storia molto divertente, a tratti esilarante, ma certo non priva di momenti profondi e riflessioni sofferte. I personaggi mi sono piaciuti molto, anche se in alcuni atteggiamenti ostinati, e al limite del ridicolo, mi hanno resa a tratti insofferente. La storia mi ha coinvolta dall’inizio fino alla parola fine. Anche il tema “magico” molto meno preponderante rispetto al volume 1 della saga mi ha permesso di apprezzare di più la storia e trovarla più realistica. Nel complesso molto soddisfatta della lettura... ne voglio altri!

I first read this book in January 2021 and had forgotten about it until I found it in an anthology, Just One Kiss Away. I didn’t recognize it initially, but it felt familiar, and I kept on reading. I did not care for the book any more in its second reading. It still comes across as silly and demeaning, although I am sure that is not its intent.
Miss Leticia Olive Hornsby (“Letty”) is our heroine and I spent most of the book feeling painfully embarrassed for her. The Prologue alone is cringe-worthy. This poor thing is abandoned at her first ball by an aunt who wanted to go off and gossip with friends. It’s 1813 and that sort of behavior would not have been condoned by the ton…not without a great deal of gossip that would ultimately hurt the aunt. A fifteen-year-old girl (or she may have been seventeen), left alone at a ball, ready to be compromised is ludicrous.
It gets so much worse. Letty is a naïve, foolish, immature little twit who lives in dreams and barely looks at the real world. Enter the hero, Richard Lennox, the Earl of Downe, on whom Letty has had a crush for half her life. She stalks him, dogs his steps, trails along behind, cannot leave him alone, and makes a general nuisance of herself. Why? Is this meant to be humorous? It isn’t. And Richard? He is a card-carrying cad: a ne’er-do-well, drunkard, and lecherous earl who’s turned his back on any sort of goodness.
Letty is accident-prone in the extreme. Bad things happen to people who stand too close, including—perhaps especially—our hero. She stumbles a lot, hits people over the head (after which she is oh, so sorry), shoots people (after which she is oh, so sorry), sets a number of fires (after which she is oh, so sorry), and is a general menace.
And that’s the story. It’s the misadventures of Letty and Richard who are tossed together, quite literally, during which an overwhelming pile of cruelties and deep unkindnesses surface. It is difficult to ascertain the purpose of this book. I suppose it is a romance—there is an HEA—but I truly do not like slapstick comedy mixed with a Regency romance. And I have little patience with deliberate cruelty perpetrated by the old “cruel to be kind” premise which falls on its face…yet another pratfall in this disaster-prone book.
There is a recurring error throughout that pulls a reader from the book in order to figure out who is talking to whom: quotation marks. The rule is that if you have someone speaking and it requires more than one paragraph, then the ending quotation marks are not added until the end of a character’s speech. Ms. Barnett adds ending quotation marks whenever there is a break in a speaker’s lines. This makes it appear as though someone else has begun speaking and the error compounds itself as discussions progress. Here’s a brief example with two people speaking:

Although Richard speaks last, he is the one who was knocked senseless, not Letty. So, his telling Letty about a fall (that she did not take) knocking her senseless is incorrect and we hapless readers are left to figure out who is speaking and when.
The book is astounding in its overbearing cruelty and silliness. It seems to get its plot from Voltaire’s Candide, set now in Regency England. Voltaire did it better in 1759 with his hero’s satirical optimism. I do not know what to make of Dreaming. Is it telling us that dreaming will make it so? That being a stalker is the way to true love? That cruel behavior can be written off with a fine excuse? I do not know. Irrespective of its intent, the book is not a pleasant read; I rated it 1.5 stars and rounded up.

Emozionante ed estremamente divertente!!
Letty e Richard non potrebbero essere più diversi: caratterialmente, fisicamente, mentalmente. Paradossalmente l’unica cosa che li unisce è la solitudine. Eppure fin da subito si capisce che il destino vuole che le loro vite siano unite, o meglio, Letty lo vuole. È innamorata da sempre di Richard, già dal loro primo incontro, avvenuto nelle vicinanze delle loro dimore, lei a cavallo di una mucca imbizzarrita.
Ciò che ho davvero apprezzato di questo regency è proprio lei, la protagonista! Quando è in circolazione, lo spasso è assicurato. Questa ragazza è una dei personaggi più divertenti che io abbia mai incontrato durante le mie letture. Potrei quasi dire che è la Bridget Jones dell’epoca vittoriana.
Letty, come giustamente dice il titolo, è un’adorabile sognatrice. Dopo aver perso la madre in tenera età, ancora si mortifica per non averle detto un’ultima volta che le voleva bene. Non è la classica protagonista di cui leggiamo spesso nei regency, è una pazza sognatrice e devota all’amore.
Se avete amato il precedente volume della serie, ritroverete ancora qui tutti gli altri personaggi, tanto amore e tante novità.
Lettura consigliatissima alle amanti del genere.

Leggere questo romanzo è stato un vero toccasana e ho gradito molto anche ritrovare alcuni dei protagonisti del libro precedente come Joy, Alec e il Visconte Seymour. È stato un po’ come incontrare dopo tanto tempo dei vecchi amici.
Consiglio questo libro alle persone che hanno amato la penna della Barnett e in particolare a chi ha apprezzato Una ragazza incantevole. Concedetevi un sogno a occhi aperti con Letty e Richard, non ve ne pentirete!

I fell totally in love with this book! I really like the author's style, the way she described and narrated the details. And the characterization! Even I myself fell in love with the hero in the story. I can also relate to the heroine's feelings towards the hero. I always love happy endings and this book just put a smile on my lips. In fact, I have read the book 3 times already:)

I thought this book was absolutely adorable. I might even have to give it 5 stars. I'm sure some will think the heroine is TOO innocent and naive. But it all worked for me. There are smugglers, pirates, a very cranky hero and a little magic. I just loved so much. I'll write a full review soon.

Since I discovered Mrs Jill Barnett’s work, it is always a pleasure to read a new piece of her work.
And here is an other of her wonderful read, I laughed, smiled, shivered, was sad and angry with and for Letty and Richard.
Letty is an angel mixed with a klutz, she has always the best intentions in her mind, but by some twisted fates it constantly ends in catastrophe. And Richard is often the recipient of said disasters.
As child having grown up alone, Richard swiftly became her whole world, the knight in shining armor who will save her from her loneliness. But he only saw in her, an imprudent kid who can’t stop to stalk him and break havoc around her.
Richard made a life to go against his father’s will, so much it became his way of life. And Letty, his hellion disrupts everything he has planned.
It is how he finds himself kidnapped on a smuggler ship with Letty and her pain-in-the-arse dog Gus.
From here, everything goes to hell, and how I laughed. Letty can’t walk strait without lighting a fire, tripping and shooting awry, causing a ship to falter, knocking Richard out, and on and on.
During their time in close proximity, Richard will get a new light about Letty, beginning to see her not as a kid but a grown up woman, one he could desire but also one he fears to be near as she awakens the worst in him, and she also revives feelings he has since long buried under his guilt.
A wonderful read.

After rereading Bewitching for the umpteenth time since the 1990s, I finally picked up its sequel, only to remember why I didn’t read it all those years ago. The heroine, Letitia Hornsby, is annoying as hell, and the chemistry she shares with hero Richard Lennox, the Earl of Downe, is forced. All those readers who found Sara Winchester of Julie Garwood’s The Gift frustratingly clumsy will soon discover that Letitia is the clumsiest girl in Romanceland. As for Richard, his transformation from cad to cad-for-your-own-good to knight in shining armor during the course of a gunshot wound and two concussions has its moments, but you can see the wheels Barnett struggles to turn in bringing these two together. Quick-reading, but the author tried too hard and it shows. A letdown.

Un libro decisamente molto carino che, nonostante sia piuttosto lungo, si legge velocemente, grazie una trama coinvolgente e a una traduzione accurata. Una lettura leggera utile a staccare un po' la spina e trascorrere del tempo in totale relax. È collegato a “Una ragazza incantevole”, tuttavia, trattandosi di volumi auto-conclusivi con un finale ben definito, si può leggere benissimo senza aver letto il precedente, anche se io consiglio di farlo.
Il romanzo è ambientato in Inghilterra e in Scozia, nel periodo della Reggenza Inglese e più precisamente tra il 1813 e il 1814. Al suo interno troverete un po' di storia dell'epoca, anche se non è propriamente uno storico, ma soprattutto assisterete alla nascita di una bella storia d'amore tra un Conte inglese e una giovane “birbante” Lady. Mi sono divertita a leggerlo, in particolare all'inizio, con la sbadataggine della protagonista, ma anche commossa e arrabbiata con Milord. Devo dire a onor del vero che avere a che fare con Lady Letitia Hornsby a volte è veramente pericoloso e il “povero” conte in alcuni casi ha letteralmente rischiato la vita.
Richard Lennox, Conte di Downe, è un libertino impenitente. Non ha mai desiderato diventare conte, ma la morte in contemporanea del padre e del fratello maggiore fa di lui l'unico erede al titolo. In effetti, non ha un comportamento molto nobile in quanto le sue attività principali sono ubriacarsi, il gioco d'azzardo e ovviamente le donne, che entrano nel suo letto per poi uscirne poche ore dopo, o il giorno dopo al massimo. C'è però una giovane donna di cui non riesce a liberarsi anche se tra loro non è successo nulla. Questa ragazza è ormai un'ossessione per lui, tant'è vero che i suoi più cari amici Alec Castlemaine, Duca di Belmore, e Neil Herndon, Visconte di Seymour, lo prendono in giro. Anche perché ogni volta che i due si incontrano inevitabilmente a Richard succede qualcosa… una gamba fratturata, un occhio nero...
Sì perché Lady Letitia Hornsby, Letty per gli amici e “birbante” per il conte, è veramente un pericolo per sé, ma soprattutto per gli altri. Letty è innamorata del giovane conte da quando all'età di undici anni - ora ne ha diciannove - lo ha conosciuto. Ovviamente non vi dico, per motivi di spoiler, in che modo si siano conosciuti, ma mi sono divertita a leggere questa scena, così come divertente ed esilarante risulta buona parte del libro.
In particolare, quando i due vengono catturati e fatti prigionieri su una sgangherata nave, da un manipolo di improbabili contrabbandieri. Lì, Letty dà il meglio di sé come combina guai. Non solo il povero Richard ne rimane vittima, ma anche i loro carcerieri, in particolare Harry. Il nobile prigioniero deve fare anche i conti con Gus, il cane di “birbante”. A un certo punto, non so se Richard temesse di più la ragazza oppure il suo cane. Di certo la sua vita è stata messa a repentaglio parecchie volte da parte di entrambi.
Letitia non è però indifferente al giovane conte. Lui ne è attratto, è protettivo e geloso, ma sa di non essere adatto a lei. Si reputa senza cuore, crede di non essere in grado di amare, di rovinarle la vita e così la tiene a distanza. Solo un miracolo, o per meglio dire una magia da parte di una strega scozzese, chi ha letto il precedete libro sa di cosa parlo, può cambiare la situazione.
Tra scene divertenti ed esilaranti, episodi di commozione e tenerezza, la lettura scorre veloce fino ad arrivare a un finale che per un attimo fa temere che il lieto fine non possa esistere per i due giovani, invece come per magia...
Mi ha fatto piacere che anche il Visconte di Seymour abbia trovato la sua anima gemella, e per questo deve ringraziare Letty e Richard.
Ho apprezzato i vari personaggi, sono ben delineati, sia caratterialmente che fisicamente. Così come lo è Gus, il cane di Letty, nonché suo migliore amico.
Gli amici di Richard, Alec e Neil, mi sono piaciuti molto. Si prendono in giro tra di loro, ma, nel momento del bisogno, sono sempre disponibili.
Per quanto riguarda la ciurma di contrabbandieri prima e di pirati poi, beh che dire se non che i primi non hanno proprio la stoffa dei malavitosi, mentre per quanto riguarda i secondi non posso dire niente, altrimenti rovinerei la sorpresa a chi volesse leggere il romanzo.
Libro consigliato.
A questo punto non mi resta che complimentarmi sia con l'autrice che con Isabella Nanni per l'accurata traduzione.

Ciao a tutti oggi vi parlerò della mia nuova lettura, “Un'adorabile sognatrice” scritto da Jill Barnett. I personaggi li avevamo già incontrati nel libro “Una ragazza incantevole” anche se i protagonisti erano altri.
Un libro molto divertente dove conosceremo Letitia Hornsby, o Letty come si fa chiamare lei, e il Conte di Downe ovvero Richard Lennox. I due personaggi li avevamo già conosciuti anche se marginalmente. Letty è una ragazza molto sola, un padre sempre via e una madre che è morta quando lei era ancora piccola. Per lei è giunto il momento di fare il suo debutto in società, il problema è che è un disastro ambulante, lei attira tutte le disgrazie. Diciamo che è una calamità naturale, ogni volta che si muove può scatenare qualsiasi cosa, non lo fa apposta, ma dove va lei di sicuro ci sono guai e subito la gente cerca di evitarla, addirittura bandendola da qualsiasi ricevimento o festa che sia. Il Conte di Downe la conosce molto bene e soprattutto sa cosa può succedere standole vicino. Il suo corpo risente ancora di certi dolori causati dalla sua vicinanza. Lui la chiama Birbante, un nomignolo che lei tanto adora.
Richard è stato via due anni da casa sua, dopo la tragica perdita di suo fratello e suo padre non ha avuto il coraggio di tornare, e ha passato il tempo come un libertino, bevendo in maniera sconsiderata cercando di non pensare alla sua vita.
Chiunque lo conoscesse era ben consapevole del fatto che, negli ultimi tempi, il Conte di Downe era arrabbiato, cinico o ubriaco. Ma c’era qualcos’altro in ballo, qualcosa fuori controllo.
Letty è innamorata di lui e lui l’ha capito già da tempo. Purtroppo per lei lui non ricambia i suoi sentimenti. Ma c’è della magia nell’aria e chi ha letto l’altro libro sa di cosa parlo, e quando Richard sta per tornare a casa incontra Letty e da lì ne succederanno delle belle. Posso solo accennarvi che lui e Letty si troveranno su una nave di contrabbandieri e vi dico solo che ci sono finiti per colpa di lei.
Dimenticavo di dirvi che i protagonisti del romanzo sono tre, Richard, Letty e l’unico amico di lei, il più fedele e sincero, Gus, il suo cane. Quello che non sapete è che Gus odia Richard e Richard odia Gus. Una storia piena di colpi di scena e di continue tragedie “divertenti”. Inutile dire che chi subirà sarà Richard, tra colpi in testa, pallottole e molto altro. Un lungo viaggio dove Letty e Richard affronteranno, oltre a una serie di disavventure, loro stessi, si metteranno a nudo. Mentre Letty non ha problemi nell’esternare quello che prova, per Richard sarà molto più complicato, lui si nasconde dietro al suo status di libertino, di bevitore e di sciupafemmine per nascondere la sua sofferenza e la sua bontà d’animo. Lei lo vede come il suo eroe, invece lui si vede come il male, una persona da cui stare alla larga, soprattutto lei, così ingenua ma maledettamente irresistibile. Un percorso difficile per il Conte, un'infinità di sentimenti con cui dovrà fare i conti, in più una serie di eventi che metteranno il suo fisico in pericolo.
“Non sei arrabbiato perché ti ho sparato?” Lui scosse la testa. “No, anche se ti sarei grato se evitassi di rifarlo in futuro. Non sono sicuro di quante torture possa sopportare il mio corpo.”
Riuscirà Richard ad affrontare i suoi demoni? Come dicevo all’inizio con un po' di magia può succedere di tutto infatti incontreremo di nuovo Mary MacLean con il suo famiglio che daranno una piccola spinta a quel destino ormai scritto nei cuori di Lety e Richard.
Incontreremo ancora Joy “la Scozzesina” con suo marito, il Duca di Belmore, Alec.
Il Visconte Seymour che farà la conoscenza di una bellissima donna di nome Giana, speriamo che ci sia un libro dedicato a loro.
Direi che è tutto per il momento, vi consiglio la lettura perché vi divertirete un sacco, come in ogni buon libro ci saranno dei momenti dove dovrete tenere il fazzoletto vicino a voi, perchè ci sarà qualche momento talmente intenso da farvi scendere qualche lacrima.
E ora bando alle ciance, acquistate questa bella lettura e se non avete ancora letto il primo rimediate subito.

Dimenticavo di dirvi che i protagonisti del romanzo sono tre, Richard, Letty e l’unico amico di lei, il più fedele e sincero, Gus, il suo cane. Quello che non sapete è che Gus odia Richard e Richard odia Gus. Una storia piena di colpi di scena e di continue tragedie “divertenti”. Inutile dire che chi subirà sarà Richard, tra colpi in testa, pallottole e molto altro. Un lungo viaggio dove Letty e Richard affronteranno, oltre a una serie di disavventure, loro stessi, si metteranno a nudo. Mentre Letty non ha problemi nell’esternare quello che prova, per Richard sarà molto più complicato, lui si nasconde dietro al suo status di libertino, di bevitore e di sciupafemmine per nascondere la sua sofferenza e la sua bontà d’animo. Lei lo vede come il suo eroe, invece lui si vede come il male, una persona da cui stare alla larga, soprattutto lei, così ingenua ma maledettamente irresistibile. Un percorso difficile per il Conte, un'infinità di sentimenti con cui dovrà fare i conti, in più una serie di eventi che metteranno il suo fisico in pericolo.
“Non sei arrabbiato perché ti ho sparato?” Lui scosse la testa. “No, anche se ti sarei grato se evitassi di rifarlo in futuro. Non sono sicuro di quante torture possa sopportare il mio corpo.”
Riuscirà Richard ad affrontare i suoi demoni? Come dicevo all’inizio con un po' di magia può succedere di tutto infatti incontreremo di nuovo Mary MacLean con il suo famiglio che daranno una piccola spinta a quel destino ormai scritto nei cuori di Lety e Richard.
Incontreremo ancora Joy “la Scozzesina” con suo marito, il Duca di Belmore, Alec.
Il Visconte Seymour che farà la conoscenza di una bellissima donna di nome Giana, speriamo che ci sia un libro dedicato a loro.
Direi che è tutto per il momento, vi consiglio la lettura perché vi divertirete un sacco, come in ogni buon libro ci saranno dei momenti dove dovrete tenere il fazzoletto vicino a voi, perchè ci sarà qualche momento talmente intenso da farvi scendere qualche lacrima.
E ora bando alle ciance, acquistate questa bella lettura e se non avete ancora letto il primo rimediate subito.

Eccomi qui, micini, per parlarvi di una nuova storia targata Jill Barnett.
Come sapete non è il primo libro che leggo di quest’autrice, che adoro; i suoi storici, infatti, mi rapiscono completamente, trasportandomi in un’altra dimensione fatta di romanticismo, passione e tante risate.
Protagonista di questa nuova avventura, dal titolo “Un’adorabile sognatrice”, è Letty Hornsby, una diciannovenne impacciata che ha perso la madre all’età di sette anni, e che si ritrova sola al mondo.
Il padre, infatti, è spesso via a causa del lavoro, e la povera Letty si ritrova a stare con una zia che nutre ben poco interesse nei suoi riguardi. Letty è una sognatrice per eccellenza, una bella e dolce fanciulla che ama fantasticare, soprattutto ad occhi aperti.
Conosce poche cose del mondo circostante, ma la sua unica certezza è data da un nome: Richard Lennox, Conte di Downe, l’uomo che ama da che ha memoria.
Peccato, però, che in sua presenza Letty combina un pasticcio dietro l’altro, arrivando perfino ad attentare spesso, ma involontariamente, alla vita di quel burbero del Conte. Lui, dal canto suo, da sempre intento a condurre una vita libertina e dedita all’alcol e alle donne, vede Letty come una ragazzina che porta solo guai, una birbante da cui stare alla larga.
E se il destino non la pensasse allo stesso modo?
Se in realtà qualcuno tramasse nell’ombra per far sì che i due stiano insieme per sempre?
Tra peripezie, rapimenti, pirati, brividi, e tante risate, vi consiglio di leggere questo libro e di non perdervi la magia della Barnett. Anche questa volta mi sono ritrovata completamente immersa nella lettura di questa storia, appassionandomi ad essa pagina dopo pagina.
La scrittura, e soprattutto i personaggi di quest’autrice, sono meravigliosi e unici. Ho adorato l’ingenuità di Letty, apprezzato la vitalità che la contraddistingue che mi ha rapita totalmente.
Mi sono commossa per le sue mancanze e le sue sofferenze...
Letty è una piccola donna che deve ancora sbocciare, e lo farà grazie al suo grande amore.
Che dire poi del burbero e impenetrabile Conte?
Mi ha fatto arrabbiare parecchio con il suo carattere duro e i suoi momenti di cattiveria gratuita.
Ma dentro ogni cuore impenetrabile c’è sempre del buono, e la nostra Letty lo sapeva bene!
Consiglio la lettura di questo libro a tutti, a chiunque ami le storie belle, piene di magia e di passione.

“Non era né una principessa dai capelli rosso Tiziano né la bella del ballo. Lei era Letitia Hornsby, aveva capelli castani e ricci come il codino di un maialino e se ne stava in un angolino al suo primo ballo, sola e dimenticata da tutti”
Letitia, famosa come “birbante”, proprio dall’uomo che le ha affibbiato quel nomignolo, viene tratta dall’imbarazzo. Nel ton è vista un po’ come la combina guai, quella che in un certo senso porta “sfortuna”. Tutti le girano alla larga ma Richard, conte di Downe, no… anche se non immagina neanche lui perché effettivamente l’abbia fatto. Un ballo con l’amichetta di sempre sa che potrebbe scatenare un uragano o un’invasione di cavallette. Lei i guai li attira più di una calamita e qui non c’entra la magia… quella è tipica di Joy ma è un’altra storia!
“E fu così che circa un anno dopo Letty si ritrovava a guardare il suo amore, disteso immobile, con la testa bionda sul suo grembo, le sopracciglia scure macchiate di sabbia, quegli occhi verde scuro chiusi.”
Non è assolutamente ciò che state pensando… macché, non è altro che il suo ennesimo disastro, una gran brutta caduta da cavallo… dalla quale uno tsunami di eventi inimmaginabili si susseguono, neanche fossero vittime di un sortilegio! Corsari, pirati, disavventure e qualche risata, elementi che renderanno il tutto così – a tratti – divertente e fantasioso, fino a rendere questo bellissimo romanzo, quasi una favola.
“Vivere senza di lei. Un’idea più terrificante di qualsiasi cosa potesse mai immaginare. Ho vissuto solo per trovarla”
Non saranno sempre rose e fiori e stavolta non c’entra nulla il cattivo influsso di Letty nei confronti della fortuna. Tutta colpa di un ingrato destino… o della cattiveria dell’uomo, che non vede fine! Proprio ora che qualcosa è cambiato nel cuore di Richard Lennox, ora che il seme dell’amore è riuscito a germogliare dove terra arida, da troppi anni vi era stata depositata.
Dopo “Una ragazza incantevole”, la serie continua con “Un’adorabile sognatrice”. Per essere più precisi, ogni volume è auto-conclusivo e se vi ritrovate con questo romanzo tra le mani, vorrà dire che vi chiarirete alcuni dubbi successivamente… anzi forse avrete ancor più curiosità, e ad innamorarvi perdutamente di Joy ed Alec, ci metterete un istante.
Ma è tempo di Richard e Letty. A grandi linee vi ho raccontato di loro, la Barnett invece, è stata scrupolosa come al solito, tracciando l’esatto identikit dei suoi personaggi. Letty è vittima di disgrazie e disavventure, che hanno trasformato un padre distante nel tempo, in troppo protettivo. Richard non accetta un passato che lo ha fatto soffrire e che lo ha indurito, nascondendogli la chiave del cuore.
“Aveva sempre pensato di essere in qualche modo immune all’amore. Aveva immaginato se stesso come una persona incapace di dare il proprio cuore a un altro. Ma in fondo non aveva capito le proprie emozioni più di quanto non avesse capito suo padre”.
Un’evoluzione dei personaggi, che maturano insieme ad eventi fortunosi e fantasiosi… ma anche tangibilmente veri. La bravura dell’autrice riesce a far collimare tanti elementi creando un romanzo mai banale e profondo, anche tra pagine spensierate. Come già anticipato, le avventure di Richard Lennox si intersecano con Joy e Alec, ma anche con il Visconte Saymor e la sua amata. Vi consiglio di non perdere entrambi i romanzi, così diversi ed emozionanti.
Un insieme di “niente è come sembra”, di stupore, speranza, simpatia… ma soprattutto fiducia. Ritrovata, quest’ultima, grazie all’amore.
Permettetemi un grazie particolare a Isabella Nanni. Soprattutto vorrei farle i miei complimenti per essere rimasta fedele al testo, senza intaccare l’empatia che Jill Barnett riesce a stabilire con il lettore.
