Meh. Pretty forgettable. Jeanne Claire "Peanut" Cassiday and Nate "Shadow" Donneli were in love in high school. They were destined to be together. Then some family stuff happens and he dumps her like a bucket of water. 14 years later she's on the high school reunion committee and wonders where that hunky guy is now. She uses her detective skills and looks him up in the phone book. He's been living in the same town of 100,000 people for 14 years and she never bumped into him. She never saw any of his advertisements for his business. She never saw him at any of the thousands of events she helped organize. They just had to talk a bit and everything would be OK? I don't think so.

Writing style was OK but the transitions in time table could have been better. Dialog was OK. A bit heavy handed when it came to moving the plot but OK.

2.5 stars but rounding down on this one.

This could have been a cute story, but I got really tired of hearing about how the main character wasn't going to let her second chance get away. It seemed like every time the characters saw each other, there was a two-page discussion of the main character's "new" attitude. It became cliche and irritating. There were pretty large holes in the plot line, and several characters who didn't serve any purpose in the story. Other characters who should have been more developed, weren't. I give this a 2 because it wasn't unbearable, but highly disappointing.

A little to slow for my liking. Took 50 pages just for him & her to see each other for the first time.

Really wasn't a fan of two couples get together - was difficult enough trying to be invested with the 1st couple that the 2nd couple I hardly cared about

Okay. I feel a little ashamed even putting this on my goodreads list but I decided I have to be truthful about what I read, no matter how fluffy or poorly constructetd. In a fit of procrastination, I ignored all the good books sitting on my shelf and picked up this one. I'm not sure who loaned it to me. Well, it wasn't awful and it certainly didn't take more than 2 hours to read but I kind of wish I hadn't.

This is a lightweight story of a couple who were the "golden" pair in high school (she, of course is blonde and patrician and he is darkly Italian and from a working class background) but are separated soon after. Nate Donneli dumps Jeanne Claire Cassiday during his first semester away at school (by a note!) and this still bothers Jeanne 15 years later when she realizes she has to track Nate Donneli down for their high school reunion. Of course, Nate has an "honorable" reason for dumping Jeanne back then and sparks fly when they reunite.

Though there were some interesting themes of trying to live your own life and not be buried under family responsibilities, they were swamped by repetitious descriptions of Jeanne's beauty and Nick's hotness. Yawn!

Reading this book made me long for Jennifer Crusie, who uses the romance tropes but does it in such a light and humorous way that you almost lose sight of them. Here, I thought, "Wow. Do you have to tell us every thought that goes through your character's mind?" Ocassionally I feel the need for the reassuring structure of a romance novel (you know that no matter how bad things get, the characters will work it out) but I like them when the wheels and pulleys show a little less.

A letter from her high school reunion committee forces Jeanne Claire Cassiday to finally confront her high school sweetheart Nate Donneli. Jeanne wants to know why Nate ended their relationship with a curt note. The answer to this question leads Jeanne and Nate to look at their lives, dreams and how their lives are different from what they planned as high school graduates.
In high school Jeanne thought Nate would love her forever, but he abruptly dumped her right after graduation. Jeanne never got over Nate, and no man she met afterwards could come close to being all that he was for her. As their 15-year high-school reunion approaches, Jeanne decides to find out once and for all what prompted Nate to abandon her. When she finally summons up enough courage to call him, she discovers that he had a pretty good reason for his actions, even if he didn't trust her enough to share it with her at the time. Now after only just one minute with Jeanne, Nate realizes that she is the only woman for him and that he can't afford to lose her again.

Since I read Sparkle I wanted to read more from this author. It was an okay romance book. I liked her theme about dreams that people have as to where they want their lives to head. And of course people's dreams do change throughout their lifetimes.

If you really have nothing better to read this one was ok. Its basically a silly plot that ends up the way you would expect.

Meh. It was alright. It was slow in the beginning, but sort of got the ball rolling toward the last quarter of it.
