And The Memory Remains: A Collection of Myths, Legends and Haunting stories from the Mackay Region

Perched on the edge of The Great Barrier Reef, the city of Mackay is often thought of as being a sweet, peaceful little place that is the perfect place to grow up and raise a family. We have beaches, we have rainforests, we have mountains and cane fields- and we have a very low crime rate compared to most other places. It is hard to imagine that somewhere this perfect and new that is usually drenched in sunlight could ave a dark history, but that's not true. like every other city in the world, unspeakable things have happened here and those dark spots in our past have cast cold shadows over our region- shadows that reach into the deepest corners of the oldest houses, and have forever stained the ground where blood has been shed or tears have fallen. And those shadows want you to know that they're there. Here are just some of their stories.

S.K Munt is an author and playwright from north Queensland, Australia. She mostly writes adult paranormal fantasies, but loves to take the sweetness, hope and innocence that makes YA so beguiling, and give it an adult twist. You could say that she has a 'Pan' complex as far as happy endings go.

Samantha has 4 children, and is happily married to her first love. So far she has penned thirty-two novels, and five plays. In her spare time, she can be found at rehearsals for her local theatre groups, surfing, reading or cleaning compulsively.

10/10 recommend, such a fascinating book! Born and raised in Mackay myself, I loved this collection of myths, legends and hauntings from all the areas I grew up in. S.K. Munt did a fantastic job at investigating and researching all the reports and personal experiences she encountered. A truly interesting read that is both a historical and paranormal learning experience. I learned things ab0ut Mackay that I would not have found out about otherwise. It has truly left me wondering if I haven't had any paranormal experiences myself that I haven't been aware of on my adventures around Mackay and the surrounding areas. Everyone in my family wants to read this book and it has started some spirited (excuse the pun) conversations at the dinner table. I look forward to perhaps reading a second volume. Maybe we'll even be in touch with our own stories!
