J.A. Comley

Born in South Africa, she may have left the heat of the savanna for the rainy skies of the UK, but J. A. Comley has brought her love of books with her. When she's not lost in the creation of a fantasy world and its inhabitants, she can usually be found reading. On the rare (really, really rare) sunny days, she embraces her love of the outdoors, exploring the countryside near her home with her family and engaging in a spot of amateur doll photography.

Most of her time is currently spent home-schooling the kids during lockdown and working on the Legends of Trianon series, of which there will be three trilogies, each following one of Trianon's heroines - Valana, Starla and Katvira

Beautiful, epic and moving high fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure and was pleasantly surprised by the very satisfying ending. Truly fabulous!

My only pet peeve is J. A. Comely's lack of understanding of 17th century European culture and mindset. She tries, but there were many occasions where I found Starla's reactions too blasé for someone with that background. An example: at one point, someone describes the magic of a certain group of people being "like witches on Earth". Starla had no reaction at all which is entirely unbelievable for a young woman raised by the church at a time when the Inquisition was at the height of its power, crushing all "devil worshippers" under their cruel fist.

Nevertheless, once out of France and fully in the magical realm of Trianon this story is well thought out and described in beautiful detail.

A story filled with magic and adventure.

Having read J. A. Comley's Legends of Valana series, I was pleased to see that she has launched a new series. Set in Trianon - the same universe as her previous works - this latest book centers on a new key character, Starla.

Raised in medieval France, Starla finds herself thrown into a world filled with magic and danger. She's unaware of her real heritage and destiny, and can't even be certain who are her true friends and enemies.

I enjoyed the magic which pervades this book. The author displays a fine imagination and has created a rich world filled with colorful characters. I believe fans of magic and fantasy should find something to like in Starla's first adventure.

Interesting premise

The premise is interesting and the characters really carry out the plot. The back story of Starla is very intriguing.

Intense, Fast-paced, Suspenseful!

The Falling Star: Legends of Trianon - Starla Book I started with the Destroyer, God of Death, Kyron killing the Demilain Creator, sucking his magic and destroying the 9th planet. After two thousand years, he is going home to Trianon but still angry at his other half Ezira.

In 1680 France, 20 year old Starla Marvou lives in a church as she was adopted by the parish priest, Father Joaquin Pedroza, after her parents died in a tragic accident 17 years before. But are the Marvous Starla’s real parents? If not, then, who are her real parents? Starla learned from Father Joaquin, Guy and Mia about how she got to Arreau, in a basket with only a shawl, a burnt picture with writings in the back, and a bracelet about - 19 and a half years ago. After learning that, Starla resolved to find her mother and her family. Her betrothed, Raoul, offered to help her search for her family and she agreed. But where will she start looking for her mother and her family?

The next morning, Starla woke up early. As she was walking in the yard, she was transported into another world with her sparrowhawk Aimee. She woke up in Galatia. How did that happen? How will she survive in the new world? How will she find her mother and her family now? So many questions need to be answered. Read the book and find out the adventures of Starla in Galatia!

Thank you to the author for this intense, fast-paced, suspenseful story! Thank you for including a glossary and maps. They helped us appreciate the story’s characters, events and places all the more.

This book began slowly but within a few chapters, turned into a tumultuous ride that expanded into an amazing story. The author has created a unique world with a myriad of characters that move the story forward. The tension extends for pages, and makes you want to read more. This was an enjoyable and memorable read.

This is not one of the genres I read very often, but I’m glad I did this time. The author has a great imagination, and this is well worth reading for its strong characters, very different world, magnificent descriptions, and endless suspense. It’s a long book and took me quite some time to read, but when a book is good, that is a distinct advantage. I’m looking forward to more.
