A storm is coming, and you’re trapped in the worst possible place to ride it out…
Amy Hendricks has the kind of life some people dream about – the bassist in a successful rock band, she’s used to jet-setting all over the world, receiving the rock-star treatment, and living for the music. But behind the scenes, things aren’t quite as rosy as they might seem.
With band relations at an all-time low, their lead singer days away from an overdose, Amy’s starting to think that the biggest show of their careers – Dead Air festival, an enormous party in the desert of Southern California – might end up being their last. Little does she know, she’s right.
Stuck in a burning desert, do you get out, or try to help?
Ed Mack is a roadie with a checkered past. A grizzled veteran of Dead Air, he knows something is wrong this year. Absent management, dangerous infrastructure, and whispers of a coming solar storm put him on edge. But when the lights go out, it’s going to be far more intense than he imagined…
Could you survive the EMP?
No sooner has the party reached its peak, the festival is plunged into chaos; the music stops, lights flicker and fade, and most vehicles die instantly. With the site descending into lawlessness, Amy and Ed must form an unlikely partnership, as rock star and roadie combine their skills and unite over one shared goal: survival.
Chaos Falls is book one of Sound of Survival, an apocalyptic thriller series that follows two strangers fighting through a situation that might even be worse than the end of the world…
3.5 stars. Uniquely different characters coming together to help each other. Well written and well paced with characters that almost immediately pull you in. My only gripes... it ends on a cliffhanger- which I hate. And, Amy, who was the voice of reason for her band suddenly becomes TSTL (too stupid to live). As this book ends with a short preview to book 2, she becomes even more stupid. I'm not a fan of characters changing personality, nor am I a fan of women being portrayed as the weaker or more insipid of a duo. I'm REALLY hoping the author straightens this out before book 2 releases.
Amy, the bassist of KPX is struggling to keep her band together as half of them are addicts and alcoholics who are doing their level best to ruin the band's career.
Ed, a crewman, and sometimes maintenance guy, for the Dead Air Festival is just trying to get through what looks like a hellishly miserable and impossible concert experience.
A hundred thousand music fans. A hot desert local in the middle of nowhere. Too little security. Wasted band members. Overworked crew. An overrun understaffed music venue, that isn't really about the concert experience, at all. A massive CME. What could go wrong?
Could not put the book down. Fantastic story of survival. The concert was a fantastic twist to the narrative. I recommend reading it. I hope to read more from this author.
Starting next book now. The story is not rushed, realistic and unique premise. I'm not going to hold it against him that he killed off so many characters so quickly!
A pace that sets up the characters quite well and pretty soon the 100,000 plus audience is rockin and going wild. What happens next you must read for yourself, but let me say this, this was bigger than Woodstock by far, and the most deadly of any rock concert past, present or future. Guaranteed. Twists, turns, madness, mayhem and 100,000 plus people running amuck. You could say the tunes at this rock concert were deadly!!
This had a very slow windup, though with a different "cast" of characters at a burning-man-gone-wrong concert. The female character, Amy, starts as the most mature person in her rock band and full of common sense, but after the flare, she seems to disintegrate into a more clueless and helpless victim. The dialogue was often difficult to follow and often repetitive. I struggled to engage with either Amy or Ed. While the solar flare threw a big wrinkle into everyone's plans, there was some nefarious shadow group that was the focus and not the EMP. Not sure that I will continue with this.
A solar flare causes a massive EMP which fries all the electronics at a huge music festival in the middle of the desert. Soon chaos takes over and the bodies begin to pile up. No one knows if this is localized or international but somehow there seems to a conspiracy. Two unlikely people help each to get away and try to make a new plan. A superb cast of characters along with a telling story line makes this one fun read.
Interesting plot that is well written and very easy to get into and enjoy. I liked the characters also and thought the author did a good job introducing them. This was my first time reading anything by this author and I really enjoyed it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
SHTF books these days fall in two cate2for me, it's either hits or misses. This one was definitely a miss. The story was just not gripping enough and Lenny was irritating as he'll. Didn't bring anything to the plot as a sidekick.
