"When we sit quietly in the presence of God something happens. Desires pour forth, fears subside, and a supernatural calm floods our being. Easy for you to say, you might think. And I would answer yes--because praying with a Rosary opened the door to God's presence in my life."

--Jenny Lynn Estes

Interesting introduction to Anglican prayer beads. The chapters on the S.C.T.S. Prayer and the Breastplate of St. Patrick look usable, so I'm no longer at a total loss as to what to do with a set of prayer beads that I bought out of curiosity.

For the rest: The chapter on the Lord's Prayer is just odd. The chapter on the Daily Office omits all scripture readings, while the Daily Scripture chapter consists solely of readings without the rest of the Office. Clay Roundtree developed an impressive version ("The Daily Prayer Rosary with daily and seasonal readings from Common Worship," Canterbury Press, 2011). It uses the Catholic rosary without crucifix or Marian medal. It lacks enough daily and seasonal variation to substitute for the Daily Office year-round, but I love it and wish Roundtree or the Archdiocese of York would expand it.

The chapter on Holy Mysteries is just the Catholic rosary without the Hail Marys. The author lops off the 2 non-scriptural Glorious Mysteries and substitutes 2 of Luminous Mysteries, but this means also removing the 3 Glorious Mysteries. Also, since Anglican prayer beads have 4 weeks instead of 5 decades, this leaves the last mystery on the first cruciform bead with no more beads. If you want to pray the Holy Mysteries, you'd do better to use a Catholic rosary and just not pray the Hail Marys, as Anglicans who prayed the rosary (but were not Anglo-Catholic) did before before Anglican prayer beads were invented in the 1980s. If you're allergic to crucifixes and Marian medals, it's easy to find a rosary without them.

I've recently returned to praying the Rosary again after a forty year hiatus. The Rosary has always been precious to me from a very small age attending Catholic school in my hometown. I was delighted to read The Anglican Rosary by Jenny Lynn Estes. This book is filled with everything you need to know about the Anglican Rosary. It's rich with history, Scripture, prayers and teaching. This is a great book, that I'll continue to read and return to often. It's wonderful to pray with my Rosary again and Jenny's book makes a perfect companion for anyone who loves the Rosary and God's Word!

This is a wonderful book that teaches various methods of how to pray. I love that it is strongly trinitarian coming from an Anglican tradition. It emphasizes connecting the physical with the metaphysical through simple verbal and physical actions along with written prayers and liturgies to help embody our prayers.

This book is rich and deeply meaningful. I encourage others to consider the practices of prayer suggested in this book.

I bought this book because I am an Episcopalian who uses the Anglican Rosary. It was a pleasant surprise, learning about the various ways Ms. Estes imagines how to pray the rosary. Because she grounds this prayer practice in Anglicanism, various sections will be accessible to anyone who is familiar with the Daily Office. If you aren't familiar with it, she provides the prayers from the prayer book (ACNA BCP, 2019).

Another pleasant surprise is that I didn't know the ACNA had published a Book of Common Prayer. So I was inspired to find and download it.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a good introduction to several ways to use the Anglican rosary/prayer beads. It also shows how to use the Anglican rosary in addition to other contemplative practices, including lectio divina, reading the lectionary, praying the daily office, and more. I especially liked the three prayers crafted to walk through the Stations of the Cross. If you are trying to figure out how you want to use the Anglican rosary in daily prayer, it's a great resource.

Wonderful and useful reference

This is a great accompaniment to my new practice of the Anglican rosary. I just started the Anglican rosary, shifting from a familiar Catholic rosary that just was no longer landing for me. I was raised Catholic but became evangelical and more Protestant in my adult years. After some quiet time, I was returning to the faith of my childhood but it no longer fit. The Anglican Rosary and this book helped me shift in a way that was totally consonant with what was emerging- one can say for sure, I was following the Spirit. This book really inspires and it very approachable. It is a joy to pray and use my beads as a tool of meditation. Thank you!

This was very much not what I expected. I think one of the beauties of the catholic rosary is the repetition and memory over time- that it becomes part of you. As long as you have the beads, you can pray the rosary.

Of the prayer suggestions, I would say maybe two of them would be suitable for memorization and use over time. For everything else, it would be impossible to pray them without this book open in front of you. It’s just massive chunks of verses or other prayer offices. And I have a pretty decent memory too! I’ll probably try to adapt a few into something useable, but I was not impressed.

I am Roman Catholic and have prayed the traditional (Dominican) hundreds of times in my lifetime, if not thousands.

I have a few Anglican rosaries and found them meaningful and beautiful when praying the Jesus Prayer- even though I prefer the chotki.

This book has many various ways to use the Anglican Rosary- which is mostly derived from the Daily Office and Psalms, as well from the traditional mysteries of the Roman Catholic rosary.

I found this book very helpful and will be adding some of it's components to my daily prayer routine.

To God alone be the glory!

Wonderful enhancement to prayer

Many ancient liturgical practices have been lost in the aftermath of the Protestant Reformation. While seeking to distinguish themselves from Catholicism, I think Protestants have lost the richness and depth that liturgical observance brings to a walk with God; primarily, the engagement of all the senses. The use of a rosary is a fantastic way to reengage the senses and attune them to the voice of God, and this booklet is an excellent way to start observing this practice.

A Helpful Guide and Inspiration

I’ve actively prayed the Anglican Rosary for five or six years. It helped me through many spiritual and emotional battles. This was a refreshing look at something deeply personal to me. I appreciate the author’s work to integrate other types of prayer with the rosary. If you are looking for a good resource for praying with beads, I definitely recommend this book.

Prayer is Focused

I was given a set of Anglican prayer beads but never quite knew what to do with them. This book gave me focus and ideas galore! From how and why the beads are strung to all the different ways to use them in prayer, I learned a lot. Do sort of wish I had a paper copy.

Good book

This is a really good book. My husband and I have been doing the rosary on Friday nights. This is a good reference on how to use different scriptures to use with true rosary.

Excellent

This book presents different ways to say (recite) the Anglican (Protestant) Rosary. I am already into the fixed-hour prayer (daily office) and I just realized that it could be said using the Anglican prayer beads. I am not an Anglican, btw.

A great spiritual resource for using the Anglican rosary, which is a bit shorter and more versatile than the typical use for the Roman Catholic rosary. I recommend this for anyone who wants to explore the spiritual discipline of rosary prayer.
