The Saga Continues... Overrun and forced to escape the killing grounds of Fort Indiantown Gap, the survivors of the 10th Mountain Division once again find themselves on the road, in search of sanctuary from the threat of the reekers. With a new plan in hand, Captain Phil Hastings, Master Sergeant Slater and the acting President of the United States, Henry Cornell, lead their group of remaining forces toward Fort Bragg, NC, in an effort to enact Contingency operations that will save the United States from the clutches of the dead. Meanwhile Sergeant First Class Carl Ballantine, Staff Sergeant Guerra, and the remnants of the 10th Mountain Division join the National Guard and surviving civilians as they head west. Their the fortress city of Colorado Springs. Each group has its own mission ... yet they are both inextricably linked. If one fails, the other is doomed as well. Hastings needs to save the nation---and Ballantine and the remnants of the storied 10th Mountain need to save Hastings. The only thing that is clear in all of this is that everyone needs to be saved ... from the ravenous reekers.
I can’t believe that I’m done with book 2! I wanna know what happens! What’s going on in the bunker and how long till Colorado, things are getting pretty dim.. for one group. Amazing writing only saw one spelling/grammar mistake.. but couldn’t stop reading!
I really appreciate when a book picks right up from the end of the previous book. Such seamless writing ensures nothing is missed, no gaps occur. With the numbers of undead that came, it was amazing they got as many on board the train as they did. But now the Hastings is separated from his men. Ballantine now has command of the Mountaineers and their dependents. Hastings, along with Slater and the convoy carrying the presumptive president are on their way to an underground bunker they hope was able to button up before the infection reached them. Of course things go to hell in a hand basket for the train. Once it derailed near Chicago to was save who and what you can and get out of Dodge. I’m looking forward to continuing the series. It’s been a very interesting one so far. I highly recommend it!
I like the first novel way more but the sequel expands the story threw two different groups has try to find civilization to combat the reekers(zombies) has they lose and gain Allie’s. I really didn’t like the that one section that into a deep thought on racism that felt idiotic and really unneed for story progression if that that did not ruin my mood I would’ve gave the story 5 stars.
The second installment of this series builds on the first and keeps getting better. The tension in the two groups keeps ratcheting up. Obstacles and intensifying encounters with the "reekers" make for a highly suspenseful and exciting read. I'm anxious for the next installment.
Desolation is a great constant read as it follows the tag tag group of military and civilian survivors in a ZOMBIE apocalypse trying hard to reach a string hold for civilization to survive ,if one exists . Read the These Dead Lands series from the hot start to the sizzling end where ever it happens to be
Love it!!! Great action and great characters. Being an Army veteran I love the military jargon and references. Definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves zombies!
Full of action, continued story which diverge as one told by Ballantine, the other Hastings. The characters are just as comprehensive as Ballantine's group tries to make it to Colorado and potential safety. I am looking forward to number 3!
Liked the 1st book but not so much this 1. Again too many spelling mistakes and poor grammar. Maybe get it proof read before publication. Looks like a 3rd book will be in the offering but sadly this series is done for me.
I felt like when following Slater and Hastings the sub plot kind of drags there but the sub plot with the train, Carl's family and the other soldier was fantastic and the kind of post apocalypse storytelling I was hoping for
I liked it, lots of action and interesting characters. A little heavier than usual on the simplistic republican party tropes that are so familiar in this genre of books. My hopes are that we cool it with all the right wing bs after the world ends?
I love the pace, the character development, and the detail of this book. I read a lot, and I mean a lot of zombie books. Stephen Knight is one of the best in this genre, and Scott Wolf can hold his own. Great work!
Great job by Stephen Knight and Scott Wolf. I've pretty much read anything zombie related by Stephen Knight and believe him to be a master story teller. The addition of Scott Wolf lends a very real and detailed military knowledge base to the story that puts me in mind of a few other awesome military writers, notably J.R. Jackson, Shawn Chesser, and W.J. Lundy. Thanks for a great story - can't wait for the next in the series. P.S. - please don't forget the Last Town series! I've been holding my breath waiting and I'm getting kind of dizzy!
