He finally has the chance to clear his family name. The only thing standing in his way is his tempting new wife.
Known as the King Maker, Ada MacQuerrie yearns to wed for love and not the magical gift she possesses. But her ruthless stepbrother doesn’t care what she wants; he just needs her to marry one of his treacherous allies. When an attempt to escape his control and save those she loves goes awry, Ada is forced to choose a husband from the miscreants who’ve come to align themselves with him. All seems lost until a compelling latecomer displays unexpected honor. But is the mysterious Highlander another treasonous Scot simply trying to seduce and manipulate her, or is the man they call Wolf the ally she’s been hoping for?
William MacLean has spent years shouldering the shame of his father’s and brother’s alleged treason against the king. So when the chance to exonerate his family presents itself, he willingly woos an unwanted bride who has the power to topple his enemies. A seemingly simple plan. Except William has survived by keeping others at a distance, and his new wife is not the calculating enemy he expected but a bold, brave beauty he fears could become his greatest weakness.
When passion flares between them, Ada cannot suppress the hope that her dreams could come true. Yet the closer she tries to get to William, the more he withdraws. It’s not until justice is within his grasp and his enemies take Ada from him that he realizes the demons dwelling within him can only be conquered by the light his wife offers. But is it too late to surrender his heart to the woman who already holds it?
*If you love romantic, page-turning books set in the mysterious, rugged Medieval Highlands that are about honorable, alpha Scottish warriors and the brave heroines who capture their hearts, then this is the perfect novel for you!*
Secrets, seduction, and romance sizzle in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts novels from USA Today bestselling author Julie Johnstone.
Julie Johnstone is a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling author. Scottish historical romance and Regency historical romance featuring highlanders and aristocrats are her love, and she enjoys creating both with a hefty dose of twists, plenty of heartstring tugs, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Her books have been dubbed "fabulously entertaining and engaging," making readers cry, laugh, and swoon. Johnstone lives in Alabama with her very own lowlander husband, her two children - the heir and the spare, her snobby cat, and her perpetually happy dog.
In her spare time she enjoys way too much coffee balanced by super hot yoga, reading, and traveling.
Ada's confused frown, followed swiftly by a hurt look, struck William like a blow, but he’d been hit before, physically and mentally, by men who wished to kill him, by men who he’d trusted, by his mother who’d left him. He could take those powerful hits and decimating betrayals and still keep going. He had to stay detached because that’s how one proceeded, even when one had been shredded by others.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 Another excellent addition to the Entangled heart series. I just adore this set and Julie’s writing.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
When Ada MacQuerrie’s mother was killed saving a fae from being harmed, the fae sisters, Hortense and Portense give the infant Ada a “gift”, the ability to make a man a king. Her father is upset, such a gift will put her in danger, so the fae add the condition that it won’t work until she is wed and she must wed willingly, this is still not right, but they are out of fairy dust and promise to return to fix it.
Years later, Ada’s father is dead and her step-brother, Brothwell wants Ada to wed a man who will help him put his father, Robert Stewart, the High Steward of Scotland, on the throne and displacing King David. He plans a tournament and tells Ada that she will choose between the two men left standing at the end. And after an escape plan fail, he tells her he will kill her companion Esther and a foundling named Maximilian who she cares deeply for. He locks them up and won’t let them go until she is wed.
William MacLean is summoned to his home by King David, William’s father and brother were both traitors to the king and William has fought for King David to make up for their betrayal. He meets with the king and learns the truth – his father and brother are not traitors, they were both working for the king, his father was killed in battle and his brother was sent on a mission to spy on Brothwell and the king hasn’t heard from him and isn’t sure if he is even alive. The king has learned of Brothwell’s tournament and wants William to win and wed Ada. William doesn’t really believe in the gift, but the king does, when he tells the king he had never planned to marry, the king says once he is wed and Ada has helped him secure his throne, he will give William lands that he can leave her at while he continues to work for the king. William refuses to open his heart to anyone, he has been hurt by his mother and father and won’t willingly open himself up for more hurt. He accepts the mission and knows he is in trouble when he meets Ada and is immediately attracted, it is unlike anything he has ever felt before, but he is sure he can control it.
Ada is also attracted to William, but he confuses her, he seems loyal to Brothwell, but he is also kind and seems to be interested in her for herself, not her gift. That is Ada’s secret desire, to be wanted and loved for herself and not for her gift. She thinks that William can be that man and when the opportunity arises, she chooses him. She is sure she has made the right choice and believes that he supports the king rather than the Steward, and when they make love, she is positive that William cares for her and not just her gift. But afterwards, he is cold and shuts himself off from her. She is hurt and before she can tell him her gift seems to be working, Brothwell comes making demands, she knows that William will be killed if they stay, so she tells Brothwell that William is loyal to the king and tricked them. William is locked up and Ada makes a show of being loyal to Brothwell. But it is all a ruse and she manages to free not only William, but his friend Thomas and her friends Esther and Maximilian. But she has another vision and takes off on her own to save them, Esther then tells William the “conditions” of her gift – that sacrifices have to be made and love has to be true.
William will not give his heart to her, nor will he accept hers, but he does care for her and sets out to rescue her from other suitor who has taken her for his own gain. But without opening his heart, can he save her, his brother and the king?
I thought this was an interesting and unique storyline with likeable characters, a little bit of steam, a dash of adventure and a sweet epilogue, but William’s refusal to open his heart or admit his deeper feelings for Ada did become repetitious and dragged on a bit too long for my liking. Overall this was a good read and I would recommend it, it is the 10th book in the series, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me.*
What a heart this Highlander had.. The title is so perfect for this story! Humor, Adventure, secrets, traitors, the magical fae, evil and loyalty to fight it with a surprising attraction that drives this story throughout! If only I could time travel back into one of Julie's stories, I would be a happy lass indeed!! What fun it would be to see to Fae sisters arguing over the gift they bestowed on baby Ada. Her mother had given her life to save one of them. Her gift would be if she chose the man she wanted to marry, then she would have the gift to make any man King! Oh yes, you see the problems that could cause! Ada grew up and her father passed away. Then her evil stepbrother Bothwell, was trying to dethrone King David and control Ada to make a match of a man loyal to him (yes I just wanted to beat him senseless!). Then she could use her power to be the "King maker" he wanted and put the King's nephew on the throne. William McLean is in the King's circle and a fierce warrior. But he has had to shoulder his father and brother's betrayal of the King. It has turned men against him believing he is a traitor also. But he is given a missive to go to a the tournament Bothwell was holding to chose a husband for his sister Ada. He was to make her want to choose him, so he could find out who was loyal to the King and who were the betrayers. I have to stop because I just want to tell you the story! Julie Johnstone is an incredible storyteller who can create a setting and characters with flawless narrative full of details that flow beautifully. Incredibly Perfect. Sigh... Wait did I forget to mention the cover? Double sigh.
The Heart of a Highlander by Julie Johnstone is book 10 in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts Series. This is the story of Ada MacQuerrie and William MacLean. I have read the previous books but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Ada at her birth the Fae had blessed her with gifts that have her nicknamed the King Maker. But her gift doesn't come in strong until she marries someone that she wants. But her Step-brother has other plans for marrying her off to fit his needs. William has been working to prove himself to his King after his father and brother prove to be traitors. When William is prompted to marry he isn't happy about it but of course he needs to do what he can to keep towards his goal. What William wasn't counting on is his feelings that he has for Ada. William has stayed strong in not building emotional relationships due to his family betrayal. So he tried to keep that with Ada but he can't stop himself. Loved their story! This book kept me turning the pages until the end.
The heart of a Highlander by Julie Johnstone is a breathtakingly captivating story full of absolutely compelling characters. The story itself was interesting and very well written. How it started had me wondering if it would be believable but it ended up being an extremely believable storyline considering that there is mythical/supernatural elements to it. It was perfectly executed! I hung on to every word. There was lots of action and adventure that had me on the edge of my seat. Then there is William and Ada who were perfect together, I adored their characters and the chemistry they had. I will definitely be adding this story to my reread pile. Page turn through and through.
William had been fighting for King David for two years trying to overcome the shame of his father and brother had been declared traitors to the King. After being called to the King, William is told he must marry Ada MacQuerrie, the King maker. William has no desire for a wife, but will do as his King commands. Ada MacQuerrie has had a gift from the far every since birth. She could care less about her gift and wants to marry for love. Her evil stepbrother, Brothwell, has decided it is time for her to marry a man of his choosing. Ada tried to escape with two trusted friends. They are caught and she is told she will choose a husband at a tournament a fortnight hence or her friends will die. She agrees. When her and William meet, they don’t understand the attraction they feel. Can’t say anymore or I’ll give too much away. This book is wonderful with characters who will steal your heart. Julie Johnstone keeps getting better and better. There are two furry beasties, Freya and Hella, that will steal your heart as well. I can’t say enough how much I loved this book. I was gifted this book and am voluntarily reviewing. I purchased a copy as well. You won’t be sorry you read it.
The Heart of a Highlander Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts #10 Julie Johnstone ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ada MacQueirre is known as the king maker after having gifts bestowed upon her by the fae when she was a baby, but all she wants is love and not her magical gift that everyone wants her to use. But her ruthless stepbrother does not care what she wants: he just wants to use her as well. He wants her to marry one of his allies so that they can use her gift for their own means. When an attempt to escape from her brother goes awry, Ada is forced to choose a husband from among the dishonest men who’ve come to align themselves with him. Ada is sure her life is over until a late arrival displays unexpected honor. But is this late arrival simply another treasonous Scot trying to seduce and manipulate her or is the man they call Wolf the only chance at love she’ll get?
William MacLean has spent years trying to get away from the stigma of his fathers and brothers alleged treason against the king. So when the chance to prove his family’s innocence presents itself, he agrees to woo an unwanted bride who has the power to topple his enemies and make or break kings. It seems simple right? Well not really because William has survived and become who he is by keeping other people at a distance, and his new wife is not the low down calculating woman that he expected. She is a brave, bold, beauty who is quickly becoming his greatest weakness.
Then when passion flares between them, Ada can not keep herself from hoping that her dreams of love and happiness could at last be within her grasp. Yet all is not what she hoped for as it seems the closer she gets to William the more he seems to withdraw. It’s not until justice is within sight and his enemies take Ada from him that he realizes that there is no way he can live without her. But is he too late in surrendering his heart to the woman who holds it?
Julie Johnston has done it again. She has written another brilliant novel that I could not put down. This book was incredible. The main characters are so endearing. William is brave yet scared and Ada is a spunky beauty that doesn’t like her gift. These two will battle it out and make you giggle while reading. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what Ms. Johnstone writes for us next.
The Heart of a Highlander is the tenth and final book in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series by Julie Johnstone. It can easily be read as a standalone so don't worry if you haven't read the other books first.
I really enjoyed the magical side of this story with the Fae playing a large part. They gift a baby, Ava, with the power to become a kingmaker. Now at first, I thought that meant that she would give birth to a king. But it actually means that when the gift is activated, when she willingly marries, she will have the sight. Using her sight she can either help keep the king on his throne or help his enemies to get him off it. Her stepbrother is one of those enemies. He is determined to do whatever it takes to make Ava marry one of his allies then move on to oust the king.
William MacLean is a highlander tasked by the king to travel to Ava's home to win her hand in marriage. Of course, that is something her stepbrother won't allow, so William must convince him that he is on the same side and wants the same thing, the king removed from the throne.
It is definitely major lust at first sight for Ava and William, but before he can even attempt to woo her, William must prove his fealty to her stepbrother. After that, he can attempt in a tournament to win her hand. He doesn't realise that she isn't on the same side as her stepbrother and that despite having to choose a husband from his allies, it is the very last thing she wants.
Will Ava have the sight given to her properly even if she isn't in love with the man she marries. Will that man be William, and will he manage to save his king without him or Ava getting killed??
I don't want to go into more detail than that because I don't want to spoil any surprises you might have, and there are a few in this book. I enjoyed the excitement of the battling foes but being a romantic, most of all I love how Ada and William's relationship developed and how they each saw each other at a soul-deep level. Oh, and of course their passionate moments were fabulous and the epilogue was just so very perfect.
I am so glad I read this book and am more than happy to recommend it.

When an attempt to escape his control and save those she loves goes awry, Ada is forced to choose a husband from the miscreants who’ve come to align themselves with him. So when the chance to exonerate his family presents itself, he willingly woos an unwanted bride who has the power to topple his enemies. A seemingly simple plan. This is the tenth book in this stunning series, it could be read on its own but with such a gripping series I’d recommend reading from the start. I’ve been intrigued by William for a while & his story didn't disappoint. Characters that nearly leap out of the page at you & a story that leaves you breathless at times & you have a book I found extremely hard to put down & read it in two sittings. I loved Ada & William who both carry baggage. There are revelations at the start of the book that stunned me. I loved the relationship between William & Ada & how it developed, the road to their HEA wasn’t easy but boy did it make for a riveting read. A must read book from a must read author. My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The Heart of a Highlander (Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts Book 10) By Julie Johnstone Clever plotted storyline with witty and heartbreakingly charming characters. I loved this story! It is so well written, exciting and engaging from page one to the last page. I laughed at the witty snappy comebacks by the heroine who delivered the perfect blow to the warrior ego. Ada is a truly heroic heroine, who is forever the definition of intelligent, self sacrificing, strong, courageous, and beautiful inside and out. It’s everything I look for in great historical romance. I strongly recommend this book to everyone who loves an exciting historical romance with great characters, and a touching and passionate love story that will warm up the cold night. Happy Reading♥️
Book Contents: Adult rating. Steamy (4 flame) with some explicit open bedroom door romance.
William likes to make sure his lady is guarded, "the dog looked up at him as if waiting for him to agree. “Go to yer mistress,” he ordered the hound , and when he saw the open gazes of lust on the other men’s faces, he added, “and guard her with yer life.” Ada's hands tend to have a mind of their own, “is my hand too cold? It’s just ye are so verra warm.” She wiggled her fingers, and they brushed his bollocks." I liked this book, I liked William.
What a fantastic book. I didn't want to put it down. So much excitement, danger, twists and turns that had you wondering what was going to happen next. It made me cry. Ada and William are perfect for each other and I just loved how they finally fell in love.
Absolutely loved loved loved this story. I loved the characters and storyline so much. I’m just blown away by all the writing. Just fantastic. Ava and William made for a wonderful end to them all. I just wanted more!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
William (Wolf) MacLean is tasked with wedding Ada MacQuerrie, the woman who was blessed by the Fae with beauty and being a King Maker. William is loyal to King David, the Scottish King and must pretend to betray his sovereign to be allowed a chance to win Ada's hand in marriage. Ada's step-brother Brothwell is the bastard son of and loyal to the Steward who wants to unseat the King. William guards his heart so he can never get hurt again after his Mom left him as a child. Ada believes men only care about her gift. The whole story of the bumbling fae Hortense and Portense bestowing Ada's gift at her christening and how they watched over her until the her story and William's has a happy ending with some surprises! I couldn't put it down and was smiling at the wonderful ending!
What a delightful romance between Patience and Brodee. I think the best scenes in the book are when the two of them are together and luckily this happens a lot. 😄 I enjoyed the insights the secondary characters William and Mari brought to our main characters. I received my copy via Goodreads Giveaways. Thank you for sending it so quickly.
Outstanding read! Steady, fast-paced and an exciting page turner....one that had my thumb positioned to tap to the next page of my ereader. I know I've said this before, but I think this is my favorite book by Julie Johnstone. Be prepared to be captured in the very beginning and page by page you'll find yourself deeper and deeper into the story. I love that the author gives the reader 'some' inside information between the characters but it also had me wanting to shake some sense into William!!
Take William, a man who has been scarred by abandonment and promises himself to never fall in love. He would not fall prey to it's snare only to have his heart broken the way his father's had been. Add to that he was doing his utmost to clear his family name since both his father and his brother have been named as traitors to the king. His journey is definitely a bumpy road, but one worth traveling.
Ada has been given a special gift by the Fae at her birth celebration. And since those fairies present were tripping over themselves trying to fix the mistake in the first blessing, they certainly have fumbled with Ada's future. She's known as the 'king-maker' throughout the lands, a power that any man would want to possess. A power she'd gladly give up to find the love her parents had shared.
FAVORITE LINE IN THE BOOK: A fire had been started, all right, but it would not cook a rabbit.
The hero and the heroine have a difficult journey as they fight for the king, and each other. It would be a the type of love you'd sacrifice your life for, so be prepared for an epic read.
I was gifted with an advanced copy of this book and would highly recommend it!
The finale of Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series is a winner. William and Ada are front and center in the final push to thwart Steward and keep David on the throne. Ada doesn’t understand exactly what she is to do with the power bestowed upon her by the fairies. She knows that men wish to marry her to use the power. She wants to escape and find someone to protect her and love her for herself. William doesn’t care about her power, but King David does. He wants to gather information, secure a marriage to Ada to bring her power to the king, and find his brother.
Ada and William have both known loss and betrayal. Because of this, trust is hard to come by, and their romance unfolds slowly. They are a headstrong and courageous couple, and if they give each other a chance, they might just find their HEA. The villains in this story, especially Ada’s stepbrother and a rather crazy suitor, are greedy, power hungry, and dangerous. Portense and Hortense aren't villains, just the fairies who started the whole thing. They meant well. Ada and Williams did get help from friends in the castle and his comrades. This story, as the others in this series, is unpredictable and exciting. Full of action, intrigue, suspense, betrayal, danger, truths to learn, and secrets to reveal, it holds your attention from the beginning to the end.
This is a great series set in an interesting and chaotic time in the history of Scotland. Each story has an action-packed plot, fantastic characters, and lovely romance. Loved it and recommend The Heart of a Highlander and the whole series.
The Heart of a Highlander by Julie Johnstone is book 10 in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series. I think these books just get better and better. I thought this book was engaging from the first chapter to the last. I loved the touch of magic infused from the beginning with a strong reminder of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty and the fairies. I think Ada Mac Querrie is one of my favorite Johnstone heroines. I loved her strength and softness. Too many Scottish heroines are portrayed with wearying acerbic tongue and wit. Though Ada lashes out at times, she is touchable and relatable in her pain. I enjoyed the slow development of the relationship between her and the hero William Mac Lean. “Ada was like the snake in the Garden of Eden - too tempting to ignore. That look in her eyes ignited his blood and set his inner warning bell to ringing. With no hope of avoiding it, William leaned down. He planned to quickly brush his lips to hers, but he was only human, for God’s sake, and the minute he touched her warm lips and tasted her seductive sweetness, he knew, with every finely honed instinct that had kept him alive thus far, that he was in trouble.” There were several steamy sex scenes. I truly loved this book.
This maybe Julie Johnstone’s best book yet!! The Heart of a Highlander is book 10 in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series and boy oh boy what an amazing series this is but you can read this particular book or any in this series as a standalone so not to worry. Julie’s writing keeps getting better and better and her stories are just so original. You will read nothing like it and it hits on every emotion… I love it. You fall in love with the hero and heroine and just hate the evils one. I couldn’t put it down. This has so much in it that I know my list could go on and on but here is just a few thing to expect: fights, abandonment, an arranged marriage, greed, two fairies gifts, not wanting to fall in love, an evil stepbrother, imprisonment, torture, spies, missions for the king, two wonderful dogs that seem to understand everything that is being said to them and yes love. You have to read this book… trust me… you won’t be disappointed.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Known as the King Maker, Ada MacQuerrie yearns to wed for love and not the magical gift she possesses. But her ruthless stepbrother doesn’t care what she wants; he just needs her to marry one of his treacherous allies. This book is filled with all that we have come to love and expect from this series. There is magic, Fae, treason, love and passion. This book is a fitting end to this magical series. Although this is the tenth and final book in the series it can easily be read as a standalone. It is such a compelling and engrossing read that I couldn't put it down and only did for BR Breaks. I'm sorry to see this series come to an end. There were a few times that I felt that the book dragged a bit but it didn't detract much from the story. I gave this book 4.65 of 5.0 stars for story line, plot and characterization. I received a complimentary copy from the author to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
When Ada was born, the Fae gifted her with the gift that she would become a kingmaker. This gift would kick in only when she willingly wed another. Her step-brother forces her to choose a man and marry, so he can use this gift. She chooses William as the better of the choices she has; but he has a secret agenda of his own. William does not believe in the Fae, but as strange things begin to happen, he wonders if they are real. I received an ARC of this very good read.
Julie Johnstone does not disappoint! Book 10 in the series and I would never get bored! I am not sure if I could even pick a favorite. I am in love with all of her characters. I know you get reviews of the book from others, so I prefer to tell you read the book you will love it! I am a series reader and I feel like you get warmed up to the characters if you start with book 1 in the series. I was not a highlander fan until reading Julie Johnstone’s books! Enjoy ..
Omg!!! Fabulous 5 star all the way. My review cannot do it justice just read it. But be for warned you will not be stopping, it’s a solid straight through read. Great book. Well done Mrs. Johnstone again!!!
Such a great book! I loved the characters including the dogs and there was plenty of action and adventure. There was truly never a dull moment. Excellent entertainment!
This is an OK Highlander romance, and I was glad to finally get William's story, but I just didn't really believe that William and Ada were in love. They were definitely in lust, but love? I didn't buy it.
Ada was likable enough, and had mostly resigned herself to the fact that she would probably be forced to marry someone she could never love. She knew that her "gift" meant men would always want to use her, and that none of them were likely to ever actually love her. She still fell for William way to quickly to believe, though, especially when she found out that he was using her, too. She definitely should have made him grovel a lot before she forgave him -- she let him get away with hurting her way to easily.
William was OK, but I got really annoyed with his determination to avoid love. Yes, he had been abandoned by his mother, but that was no excuse to use/hurt Ada. Assuming that Ada would break his heart, simply because his mother broke his father's heart, was ridiculous -- and it made me angry that he used that excuse to keep hurting Ada.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
4 stars ( 5/4 stars Margaret Mallory, Julie Johnstone, Monica McCarty, Lynsay Sands, Donna Fletcher)
4 stars: This book was good, worth reading in a few days. It hit pretty much most of my personal markers for a good read and well roundness of the book. my personal markers for a great read...1. smart and engaging writing, 2. Humorous, 3. sexy interactions and 4. stories with family/friends.
The development and interest in main characters H/H well paired and Secondary characters was enjoyable. It kept me wanting to know and read more.
Laugh out loud with humorous moments. The give and take dialogue was wonderful as well as action filled.
I loved the writing around the women empowerment (it wasn’t over the top for me). Badass women rock.
Movement of the book flowed for the most part. Book writing/conversation engaging. Not a lot of historical accuracy (no big deal to me), not a lot of internal character dialogue and not a lot of descriptive scenery written out.
Romantic /sexual content (kissing, oral and love making scenes) was throughout the book. Nothing over the top and was intertwined rightly in the story telling. 3/5 rating hotness and steam with some ‘dirty’ words thrown in 😉.
I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series).
would absolutely recommend the book and the series
As always, I love Tim Campbell and his velvety voice.
Also as always, my reviews are less of a traditional review and more of my notes to remind myself of things that I liked and didn't like about each book, because otherwise I will not remember.
I love that Thomas is here with his redemption story! Awww Lisette. I want to know so much more!
I know that the hounds, Freja and Hella, being sent by the Fae is supposed to be a lie to keep the hounds alive, but I don't think it's a lie and I think that Esther knows that. She was able to hear part of the prophesy that Ada's father couldn't hear.
This story definitely held my attention, and I enjoyed it. I even enjoyed the happy ending, though it did feel a little rushed.
I'm glad that Ada killed her stepbrother (Blackwell), and I'm glad Marjory had some character development from being a complete pill. I was hoping Thomas would have his happy ending in this series too... along with Grant. Especially Thomas though, his past was so terrible.
I was also hoping to learn more about the mysterious dark riders in this book, since Will trained with them as well.
As a side note, I didn't really buy into their mother just leaving after she promised she'd be there the next day. I wonder what really happened to her.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Like the other books in the series this one too is captivating...with a dollop of magic! Julie has that special capability to keep a reader hooked to the story from the beginning till the end. The chapters end in such a way that I are compelled to start the next chapter immediately! And set up in the medieval backdrop it becomes all the more dramatic. Utterly enjoyable story!
