I Am A Matchmaker on Taobao

Rate this book
After waking up from a car accident, not only was I alive, I had also gained a new ability. If I stare at someone or a photo for three seconds, I’m able to see whom and when they shall marry…

The 18th tier small-time actor Shen Chuchu knew that with this skill, her mother would never have to worry that she will starve to death again.

She would put down her roots on Weibo first, then open a matchmaking store on Taobao.*

“Your husband is a close friend and you will be married in March next year. You will have a happy marriage.”

“Your husband will appear at your company’s dessert store soon, so remember to keep a close watch every day.”
……
A certain amateur celebrity is already married?

A certain director’s wife is going to have an accident soon?

One day, someone came to her for matchmaking.

“Sorry, lady. Fortune-telling requires fate, and it seems like we don’t have that between us.”

“Isn’t this just about money? As long as you can figure out my son’s marriage, I can pay you tenfold. No matter how much!”

F***ing hell, it wasn’t that she wouldn’t predict the match. The arrogant CEO’s future spouse was actually her.

*TL-note: Weibo is a popular social media app in China with functions similar to Twitter. Taobao is basically the Chinese eBay/Amazon.

Cute system romance. The translation was rough and it took extra mental gymnastics to follow the story. 😆

I am a Matchmaker on Taobao

(English Translated Title)

It's wasn't one of those novels that leave you with awe and reverence. But I still enjoyed reading it immensely, even shed a tear or two at times.

The premise is just so fascinating where the FL can see the marriage fate of others and helps them. Yet, she is not just a bystander in other people's lives, she lives her own life freely and fully.

Shen Chuchu's character may seem average but I liked it very much. She knew when to advance and when to retreat. She accepted her flaws and was totally okay with it and even improving upon it as much as she could.

Han Xingyan, the ML, is considerately for more generic CEO character. However, he was awkwardly cute and very much doting towards Chuchu. He was NOT an a-hole, but a perfect gentleman. He never let his jealousy and possessiveness hold his girlfriend back from her acting career. He wholeheartedly supported her in everything and did not meddle in her affairs without her permission, letting her deal with it on her own. Basically treating her as his equal which many Chinese overbearing CEOs somehow forget to do.

Both of their relationship can be summed up in one word- (clumsily) adorable!

There were also so many couples that we came across. Good and bad, both. Some had messy private lives, some were scumbags and cheaters.

However, the best thing were the couples that ultimately got together and lived in conjugal bliss. I even cried a little cause it was too sweet for me to handle.

One time, the FL predicts the first encounter between her client and her future husband at a Cafe and she goes there to witness it firsthand. There, both bump into each other at the last minute and they can be seen tugging at each other among the bustling crowd of the mall, through the glass window. This particular moment was a highlight for me. As it portrayed how a seemingly insignificant meeting like this sparks the future journey of soulmates. It was too romantic for me not to add this here.

Overall, a great bingeworthy entertainment industry trope novel. Nothing too awe-inspiring or anything. But still a solid one!

it wasn’t the worst thing i’ve ever read but it was definitely not good. i honestly didn’t like it. thought it would be funnier and have a sort of rom-com vibe. but i was disappointed with the tone of the novel. the highlight and unique part of the story is basically forgotten after chapter 60 like the novel is literally called “i’m a matchmaker on taobao” but towards the later half of the novel she’s not matchmaking and she’s not even on taobao. turns pretty quickly into a subpar entertainment industry romance. the romance wasn’t good. i rly didn’t care about them at all. none of the characters where fleshed out at all. anyways it’s an insanely quick and easy read. only like 119 chapters. i read it in a few hours. it’s a good novel if you want something rly lightweight. think like self-insert fanfiction on wattpad. entertaining but no substance. 🤷‍♀️

i wrote a better review but i accidentally clicked out of the app and lost it so now we are stuck with this nonsense.

To sum it up it’s entertaining. The 18th tier young actress gets a system that gives her matchmaking data for the people or photos she sees while helping her improve her acting skills. There are no big adventures or masterful antagonists. It’s the standard bullies in the entertainment industry and her overbearing CEO potential partner that fill up the storyline. It’s the novel to read if you just want to chill before the next suspense or horror novel. 3.5/5
