Mershano Empire #3

The Rebel's Redemption

Rate this book
Even rebels have regrets.
Mine has a name: Jamie.

When news of Jean Perry's passing reaches me, I feel a moment of selfish relief and hope that I might be able to reconcile the most consequential mistake of my life.

There's only one problem.
Her sister.
Avery Perry.

The moment I see the way my son looks at her, I'm reminded of a past I thought long buried. There's more to this arrangement than meets the eye and there's only one way to learn more.

It's time to play house.

No feelings. Just observation. And maybe a little seduction along the way.

I am a rebel, after all.
And not all rebels are worthy of redemption.

This is the second book I have read by this author and the second book I have LOVED. 💞 This is especially surprising when you consider it has something I absolutely LOATHE in my romance books (sibling sharing). 😷 Now, I'll admit it still did skeeve me out (a little) 🙈 However, the plot and the author's light hand made it less of an issue for me than it usually would be. 👍

description

The writing was excellent. 👍 It was well paced. 👍 The plot was engaging. 👍 It made me bawl SOOO many times. 😭 The sex was hot. 🔥 There was no OW or OM drama. 👍 Jamie was adorable. 🍕 I loved the little Killian cameo. 😂 Avery was a fantastic heroine. 👍 I loved her and her huge heart. 💗 Wyatt is why I took half a star off this one. 👀 I found him really unlikable at the beginning of this book. 😒 However, he got loads better as the book went on. 👍 Last, it was all wrapped up in a sweet epilogue. 💒 I'll be honest, I would have liked to have seen a 👶 or two, but I imagine we will see this little family again in future books. 💗

This was a fantastic read, and I am glad I took a chance on it. ✔ Yours truly gives it two thumbs up. 👍👍

The Rebel’s Redemption was the third book in the Mershano Empire series by Lexi Foss.

Wyatt Mershano was the younger brother to Evan, book one, The Prince’s Game. He was the rebellious one, always doing whatever he could to defy his father. It was his life’s mission. And apparently, he also had a son.

Avery Perry was devastated. She just lost her sister; whose son, Jamie, she was now raising on her own. She had raised him for the last four years and it was now permanent...until it wasn’t. Jamie’s father had been absent from the beginning and now he decided to show up and claim his son. Why now?

Foss took us through a creative story. No spoilers, so no elaboration, but it was well written, well developed and suspenseful. I enjoyed the characters as well as how Foss unraveled the details. Not everything appeared as it seemed and i enjoyed each new discovery.

Additionally, Foss revealed a fourth book, The Devil’s Denial, which will focus on Garrett - the attorney we’ve all come to dislike - and I totally can’t wait!

Oh my goodness, I lost count of how many times this book made me ugly cry!

This has gone straight on the list of favourite reads of 2019, right up there in the top 10 - scrap that, definitely top 3! Avery, Wyatt and Jamie took me on an emotional roller-coaster of a ride, zooming me to the peaks and pinnacles before dropping me into the depths of despair. Lexi C. Foss writes with such an unbelievable depth of feeling that my heart feels as though it has been caught up in a maelstrom, pounded by the violent forces contained within it and then left floating in the gentle eddies of current along the edge of the water.

On first meeting him I absolutely detested Wyatt, I wanted to cause him bodily harm! My pulse was literally racing and I couldn't read quickly enough to find out what this despicable excuse for a man was going to do next. And do you know what he did? The goddamn rebel made me fall in love with him! He also made me want to slap him around the head a few times, and possibly kick his ass too, but my word this seemingly arrogant alpha-hole had a gentle heart and a caring nature not many got to see.

Avery is a wonderful heroine, the sort of woman you either want as your best friend or would even aspire to be! From the off I just couldn't help liking her, which only increased my ire at Wyatt. At times her heartache had me sobbing, and I felt her pain, passion, anger, angst, lust and love. Thankfully Wyatt redeemed himself and provided Avery with the love, support and care that her life had been sorely lacking.

There was just so much good story in this book, so many feels and throughout it all was the careful dance between Avery and Wyatt, with neither sure who or what to trust. However the author wove a story that was both convincing and captivating. I believed in Avery and Jamie, I forgave Wyatt and understood why he acted as he did. I cared for these characters, wanting and needing them to find that HEA. Not only that but the chemistry was intense, resulting in some red hot sex scenes.

What really stands out for me is that straight forward contemporary romance rarely hits the mark for me. Add in suspense, BDSM, comedy, sci-fi, paranormal elements etc and I'm fine. But contemporary, especially one that includes the concept of 'billionaire' (a huge turn OFF normally for me) would usually have me running in the opposite direction. I'm glad the author's name was enough to persuade me to try this, because if I hadn't I would have missed out on an amazing and wonderful book.

This author continues to enthral and enamour me. I discovered her via a short story in an anthology and then read her first foray into romantic suspense with Scarlet Mark. If she hadn't told me it was her first attempt in the genre I would never have guessed she hadn't written in it before. I'm now off to go and purchase her entire catalogue of books, because I know I will love them.

Wyatt, Wyatt, Wyatt. Be still my beating heart!

It has been an agonising wait for the next Mershano fella to appear but it is well worth the wait, I can assure you!

Great characters, great character chemistry, great plot and ease, realistic storyline and definitely and ‘pull at your heartstrings’ vibe.

Wyatt is a rebel, but now he’s a rebel with a cause. Namely Jamie, his son. It just so happens that Jamie’s auntie Avery is along for the ride as well and Wyatt sure doesn’t make it easy on the only person who has ever really cared for and loved Jamie. Whilst it should be said that Wyatt hasn’t been in Jamie’s life since the beginning, (for reasons you’ll understand when you read the book) he is making up for it now and it’s endearing to watch.

It’s easy to see why this pair work, they say opposites attract and that’s never more true than with Avery and Wyatt, she’s the humble, meak-ish home bird, he’s the ex wild cheeky chappy who just happens to be loaded too. They both work because they’re polar opposites. Where Avery is undecided, Wyatt is cock sure. It’s the perfect entertainment.

I’m really excited to see the next book. I have a feeling we’re really going to be run ragged with that one. Highly recommend this and all the other books in this series, but hey! Don’t just take my word for it, go and grab your copy!

I've been dying to read Wyatt's book for soooo long, and then when I finally got my hands on an ARC (thank you Lexi C. Foss for your generosity), I was kind of scared to read it. What if the Wyatt in my head didn't live up to man on the page.

Well I needn't have worried.

Except Wyatt didn't turn out at all like I expected. He was a whole lot better!

Bestill my beating heart... oh my. This guy... the way he was with Jamie from the get-go brought a tear to my eye (I'm not known for getting overly emotional while reading but this one really tugged on my heartstrings).

Wonderfully told, this is such a sweet tale. I bled right along with Avery, with every drop of her suffering. This is an emotional tale, full of heart, and with a HEA that will have you closing the book with a great big sigh of satisfaction.

I devoured this book in two sittings (only separated by the need to sleep. Damn you sleep!)

Loved every page!

Okkkayyyy

I saw this book via the authors tik tok today and decided to give it a read. She is a new author to me and it is the 1st book I’ve read of hers. I normally only ready completed series because impatience…and I always read them in order. This book excerpt pulled my attention though and I needed a quick read so I rebelled and I’m glad I did.

This book had me in tears within minutes of starting…like silent tears of sadness. It’s heavy at the beginning ironically I wasn’t sad about the loss I was sad for Avery and her situation with her nephew and the possibility of losing him. It broke my heart.

Wyatt was a jerk…at the beginning…but he had absolute reasons to be. Don’t give up on him…his character arc and growth is a good one to watch.

The spice was a 1 outta 5
Plot 4 outta 5
Ending 3 outta 5

Yep my only complaint is the abrupt ending and epilogue. I wanted more, more of a look into what transpired and what their life was like. It was a bit uncomfortable at the epilogue I felt, heavy, not finished and I wanted to be left feeling love and light happiness only.

The Rebels Redemption had all the feels! Avery Perry is ready to adopt her 4 year old nephew - who she’s raised from birth - but there’s one catch, Jamie’s father Wyatt Mershano is back on the scene and wants his son back.

This was very much a case of paying for a sisters sins as Avery finds her whole life spiralling following the death of her sister Jean in a nightclub bathroom. Desperate to keep the nephew she sees as a son she must accept Wyatt into her home if she has any chance of keeping him.

Wyatt, black sheep of the Mershano family, doesn’t trust Avery after what her sister did and knows he can take Jamie at any time but suspects that she might be as much of a victim as he is. Wyatts transformation from bad boy with no thought to his consequences to doting father is heartwarming.

This is very much a book of learning to trust one another, of discovering the consequences of actions and mostly it was about trying to be better people. This was heartbreaking at times and so sweet at others especially with a pizza obsessed 4 year old around.

The Rebel’s Redemption

Sinfully sexy! A highly entertaining contemporary romance that captured my attention from the beginning. The story was an emotional rollercoaster that had me smiling, laughing and wanting to cry. I loved the characters and thoroughly enjoyed Wyatt and Avery’s story and watching their relationship grow and develop.

Wyatt is the youngest brother of Evan and heir to the Marshall fortune, although he is very different from his brother. Evan is a tireless worker while Wyatt has a Harvard law degree that he doesn’t use at all.
When his son’s mother dies, he decides that it is finally time to take care of him. So he calls his lawyer and they get to work, they meet with the deceased’s sister, Avery, and explain the situation. Jamie is the biological son of Wyatt and he has come to claim him.
Avery has spent the last 4 years taking care of the child since her sister has never shown much interest. While Jean spent longs periods away from home, it was Avery who maintained and took care of little Jamie.
Wyatt is convinced that Avery just wants to get money from him since it’s the only thing Jean wanted from him. Avery feels her whole world is falling apart. Wyatt hasn’t worried about Jamie in 4 years and now he wants to take him. Besides, her sister always told her that she didn’t know the identity of Jamie’s father. Wyatt and Avery will be involved in a network of lies orchestrated by the late Jean, and, as they discover the truth, they get closer to each other since they both care about the same thing: the well-being and happiness of Jamie.

Foss does it again ~
A big thank you to Lexi for ripping out my heart ~ repeatedly, mind you ~ then stomping on it until it was nothing but broken pieces scattered on the floor.
I am currently recovering from one of the worst book hangovers I can recall and hoping for a miracle. And more vodka. Oh and tissues. Definitely, need tissues.

I was waiting for Wyatt's story and I was not disappointed though I must admit I think it was little Jamie who stole my heart.

Avery has been Auntie A since little Jamie was a babe. Her sister, Jean was not able to financially, or emotionally care for him so she took the role of mother and aunt. Avery's world is turned upside down when her sister passes and she files for legal custody of Jamie only to find she is not Jamie's sole surviving family member. She is about to have her entire world ripped from her arms and there is not a single thing she can do about it.

Wyatt can't believe the nerve of Avery to go after full custody of his son. The evils people will commit under the guise of love. With no intention of letting Avery get away with it, Wyatt decides a little payback is in order. He sets his plan in motion and he knows from past experiences what the Perry women are capable of. He will show no kindness.
You reap what you sow.

Oh, Wyatt what a fool you are.

I cried... I laughed .. I cried some more... I awww'd... I cried again... Getting the picture?

This was such a sweet and highly emotional read.

I am not sure if this is touted as a stand alone but I believe you would have no problem following the story and connecting with the characters even if you have not read the first two in this series.
But! Why would you?

I own this entire series

I was expecting something more sinister. However, what I got was something so much better. I loved watching Avery and Wyatt as they navigated through life with on one purpose in mind. That purpose being Jamie. They had to middle through the mess and lies of Jean in order to discover the truth. The truth being that every action serves a purpose and has a silver lining. Without Jean they would never have found the other.

I did have a couple of moments that I wanted further explanation, like why Wyatt felt his arrangement with Jean was the best for Jamie and also more into why Jean did what she did. However, it didn't ruin this story and definitely makes me want to go back and read the other books since I read this out of order.

I absolutely loved Wyatt and Avery's story.
Both Wyatt and Avery had been screwed over by Avery's sister Jean in many ways but in very different ways as well.
For Wyatt her form of torture was blackmailing him to take care of his son away from the paparazzi zoo that followed him.
Avery's torture was basically making her a mother without allowing her the luxury of the title "mom".
When Jean passes away, Avery is determined to still give Jamie the constant love and affection she has for the last 4 years and is determined to adopted him to officially become the loving mom he was denied with Jean. But things change when Jamie's father finally comes forward and is determined to claim his son.
Wyatt's life isn't one that's appropriate for children, but he knew the smart thing was allowing Jean to raise his son and to pay for anything his child might need. But now that Jean's dead and some woman is trying to adopt him, Wyatt has to do what's best for his son.
It's time for Wyatt to figure out if Avery Perry is just like her sister and determined to screw him over as well.

Feelings weren't suppose to get involved. But Avery is everything Jean wasn't and everything Wyatt finds attractive in a woman. But is she just putting up a facade for Wyatt's sake to not take Jamie from her?

A touching emotional story

First I want to start off by saying that this is the first book I read my series and it can be read as a stand-alone. The next thing I want to say is omg I had a huge connection with this book I was in such a roller coaster of a ride of emotions. I feel like because I have kids the same age that were involved in this story that I couldn't help but get emotional over it. I love the development of this story in the relationship between the characters as it grew. Well I did have a love-hate relationship with a man lead character I didn't up liking him in the end again the growth of the characters was very well-rounded throughout the story. I did really enjoy this story and would recommend reading this story and looking into other books by this author.

Bring out the tissues because you'll need it with this book, Wyatt Mershano is the youngest son in the Mershano family and has been known as Rebel. When one night ended with him being tricked into sleeping with a woman, with the the result of it being his son Jamie. Avery has raised Jamie as is he was her own son, giving him everything she can because she loves him. Avery's sister is Jamie's birth mother but wants nothing to do with him and when she dies , Jamie's father comes for him. The roller coaster of emotions in this book is amazing. It was like being there watching love come for Avery and Wyatt. The Mershano Empire Series can be read out of order but I recommend reading it in order.

Here was me thinking this would be a nice quick read for my night shift. Then I go and get to chapters 16 & 17 and I'm crying like a mess.
The way you made me feel her pain, damn it needed a trigger warning that was pure emotion, clearly joking here. So perfectly written, I felt it in my chest.
You didn't make this a ton of miscommunication because it could make the book longer. Nope, you made these people talk. Yes, they held things back in the first half but were pretty honest throughout.
Lexi C. Foss I knew this was the easiest 5 star I've ever given before halfway. I just wish I'd experienced the books before this one first. It won't stop me from reading them though.

Fmc is such a pick me with no back bone. At the beginning I was rooting for her. Then halfway thru he leaves with the kid for the weekend (kid broke his phone). She thinks he took him and didn’t even say goodbye and will never see him again. Sunday night they arrive and she’s shocked he’s there. He apologizes for not contacting her again and he wasn’t thinking because he’s not used to thinking if others. Then she’s crying in bed and ask him to stay. The fall asleep and hook up in the morning. Like nothing, girl you should be pissed, you thought he kidnapped your kid. He “tested” her a lot and it was annoying and she just forgave him and understood.

Okay I couldn’t put this book down. It put me on a chokehold and I just loved it! Super cute and one of the things I loved was the relationship between Avery and Jamie! For sure just wished that we had a deeper or longer length of the relationship between Avery and Wyatt’s family. But overall fell in love with this series. I’m going to have to read the first two books because I started with this one! So far first book from this author and I’m pretty hooked
