Antithesis #4

Hiraeth

Anne Thomas, Gary Arlett (Illustrator)

This was the final chance for Michael and I, we’d played for everything and taken risks with other people’s lives. Now we had to put things right and I changed places with Kasey, my host, allowing her to escape. But her freedom meant that I was losing mine, not just losing but I had given my word to stay alive, to try a new life with the winner. Michael had bid and I hoped my father had too but I was to find that my greatest enemy had joined and he had yet to lose anything.
So this is it for Michael and I, playing for our lives in this life and our souls for the next.
My name is Ali, I was once a Jackal who made a mistake and we all have to pay the price for our misdemeanours one day.
