Alexandria has made a habit of putting others first. Whether it’s her best friend, her younger sister, or one of her students who needs her, she’s always there. But when her younger sister, Draya, suffers her second opioid overdose, Alexandria fears that she has not done enough to ensure that her sister won’t follow in their mother’s footsteps. Darryl, likewise, assumed responsibility for his household at a young age. Following his father’s death, he sacrificed his own dreams so that he could provide a better life for his mother and sister. Now he has new dreams and a new lady in his life. Will Alexandria and Darryl be able to forge a new future together, or will their losses be all that they have?
I’ve never read anything by A.S. Wilson before, and Keeper was a great introduction to her work. As a woman, wife, mother, daughter, and sister, I can understand the heroine’s feelings about always putting yourself second to ensure your family is taken care of. Alexandria loved her family but seemed to be a little smothering. Darryl is a friendly and drama free man, which I believe is a rarity in a lot of romance books. Their love wasn’t rushed or frenzied it just took a natural progression, which was a nice pace. Having to learn the hard way of letting others make their own mistakes. Learning to back off was a lesson in itself for Alexandria. Keeper is a little predictable but still leaves you smiling at the end and left wondering about the other relationships that were brought up in the book. Hopefully their will be some sequals. I Thought it was a great read and would positively pick up another book by A.S. Wilson.
Wow! This was deep.. there was a strong message in this story. I loved the love that was evident between Alexandria and Darryl!! ❤️Alexandria was so used to making sure everyone else was okay. She didn’t stop to make time for herself and her goals. What I loved the most is the tough topics that were addressed, for instance school shooting and drug overdoses. I think these are topics that aren’t addressed enough-it really brought a whole different perspective to this book. Darryl was so perfect; he did not wrong. Darryl and Alexandria were so compatible; they both believed in helping everyone. I think that’s why they matched so well together. Loveeeeed this one!
Alexandria has always been there for her sister when needed and this time was no exception. Darryl was they when his mother needed him forgoing college. Darryl and Alexandira met through his sister and they hit it off. Alexandria was to focused on her sister making sure she was better than focusing on herself. Alexandria wanted more out of life, but because she felt she had to take care of her sister, she always put them on hold. To me, Alexandria was surrounded by selfish people, her sister and mother didnt think about no one but themselves and Alexandria was always there for them. They didnt respect her, but when they got in situations she was the one they called. Her best friend Erica really wasnt a friend, it was only about her. I didnt like when Erica threw up in her face when I needed you I was there for you, that is not a friend. After Alexandria talked to Darryl's mother and she told her that she appreciated Darryl for giving up his scholarship to help her out, that made Alexandria feel she wasnt appreciated. When Alexandria sent a text to Draya about her texting Darryl, that must of lit a fire under Draya, because she left and got herself together. I was very irritated with Erica and Draya and how they treated Alexandria and I just wanted her to stand up for herself. This story was a great introduction for me of this author. I enjoyed the storyline and received a message from this. The chemistry between Darryl and Alexandria wasnt as strong as I usually like, but it came across as a new relationship forming. Great read and looking forward to more from this author!!!
Ms. Wilson, I have to say this is well-written, I can tell you put your heart into it. Ms. Alexandria was trying to carry too much on her shoulders. I know the oldest child feels like they have to carry the load and make sure everyone is healthy, successful, and thriving however it can be a bit much. I love the fact you paired her with Darryl because their energies matched. He was trying to keep his family structure together as well. I loved the effort he put into the relationship he and Alexandria had. He made sure to check on her wellbeing wholeheartedly. The scene where he stopped by his mother so she can rest was EVERYTHING!
This is a magnificent novella, it really illustrates how important a strong family dynamic is. The weight of responsibility can easily fall on the wrong person. I have to say I admire Alexandria but I don't feel like Erica was a true friend. Alexandria was doing more for her than she was for Alexandria. It seems all she did was flaunt her money. I wanted a couple more chapters because Erica needed a "coming to Jesus moment." Her wanting a certain caliber of man is going to come back to bite her. I think that she needed therapy. I applauded Draya for her growth but I would love for her to finish her degree. She could still be an awesome author just an educated one. It was a heavy sigh when Alexandria said str is going to pursue her master's in education. She was finally doing something for herself for a change. This is a short but quite informative read. Grab your copy and get into it.
Although I applauded Alexandria for going above and beyond to care for her family, when is enough enough? She helped, loved, supported and sacrificed until she had almost hit rock bottom! What did she have left for herself? Darryl, came onto the scene at just the perfect time. She needed someone to show her that she was worthy of taking time out for herself, and deserving of all the things she hoped and dreamed about. He was bae for real! So calm, but assertive when necessary. Their journey was bumpy, but still very sweet. Miss Erica! What kind of person/friend is she? I have never run across a person who was so self-absorbed! What was up with her husband to be? Something seems shady about him, and their relationship period! Hope there is possibly more to this story, as I would love to see a happy ending for Alexandria. 👍👍
Darryl is a Keeper! I loved Darryl, he was definitely bae and easy to love. He was certainly someone Alexandria deserved because her mother and sister were something else. I didn’t like Erica at all though and did not think she was a good person or friend. Something seems up with her newfound fiancé and I wonder if we’ll see more of them if so I’d love to see more of Darryl and Alexandria as well.
I liked the story a lot, it had a few lulls but overall, it was good. My only real complaint, the ending seemed to come abruptly! I hope there is more to this story coming soon.
The story was written so simple about life circumstances. How you can put everyone else's need ahead if your own and love can ease right on end and change your life. I love simplicity.
I love Darryl and Alexandria together. You can tell that's she is super guarded but he sees through the rough shell. Draya needs inpatient rehabilitation. Erica and her fiance are hiding something.
