When two former enemies fall in love, family secrets threaten to destroy their fragile union and everything they hold dear.
With their extreme ideas about traditional Ojibway life, the radical Kabatay clan have made enemies in their fight to rid the reserve of Western culture and its religion. Disowned by her family for daring to love the church deacon’s eldest son, Jude, Raven Kabatay longs to put an end to the feud started by her mother, brother, and sisters against the Matawapits…people she’s come to think of as her own since Jude changed her life.
Jude Matawapit suffered a humiliating divorce after his wife left him for another man, but with Raven, he’s created a beautiful, new sanctuary after losing his previous one, and his new haven is everything he’s ever wanted for himself and his children. Only two things could destroy his pristine bliss: the secret he holds close to his chest, and the vengeance Raven’s family wants to exact on the Matawapits. A secret and vengeance that could cost the unlikely lovers their hard-won, much longed for happily ever after.
An Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario, Maggie resides in the country with her husband and their fur babies, two beautiful Alaskan Malamutes. When she’s not writing, she can be found pulling weeds in the flower beds, mowing the huge lawn, walking the Mals deep in the bush, teeing up a ball at the golf course, fishing in the boat for walleye, or sitting on the deck at her sister’s house, making more wonderful memories with the people she loves most. https://books2read.com/ap/n0AggA/Magg...
I have loved everything about this Matawapit family series. As a Native American romance reader, there aren't many books to choose from that give me the in-depth relationship building that I love to see in romance books. This series has delivered the perfect amount of world-building, a revolving plot that kept me immersed in each subsequent love story, and the right amount of angst and drama to keep me wanting to come back.
I wasn't expecting Jude and Raven's story to be a duet, but I'm so glad that it was. Not only did it give us a glimpse into the HEA world of the two previous couples, but it also gave me the closure that I needed. Raven's family, the Kabatay clan, have been in an ongoing battle with the Matawapit's for years. In this book, we get to dive into why.
Jude and Raven's relationship has some big hurdles that it jumps in this book, and at one point I didn't know if they'd recover from a particular part. I love how they love one another, though. Their love saves them, makes them stronger, and truly is what I love about romance books. This book is sensual when I need it to be and serious when the moment calls for it to be. Some romance books can be a straight and steady line to an HEA, with one or two bumps in the road. But this author has beautifully crafted a love story that will surely stand steady against anything that's thrown its way.
I already wish I could read another story about this book world that this author created.
This is a profoundly emotional charged story that draws you in and holds you spellbound. Jude was single again after his marriage fell apart he's doing his best to care for his two children his ex wife is trying his patience while trying to support his girlfriend. Raven is a recovering addict who's relationship with her family is on its last leg she's being treated like a pariah for choosing to date who she wants. Her mother and siblings hate Jude and his family Raven's mother's clung to her hostile feelings like a winter coat and she's passed on her venomous sentiments to her older children she wants revenge against those she blames for her hard life and unhappiness. Raven has many tough choices ahead that will affect her sobriety, her relationship with her family and more importantly her relationship with the man she wants or will she lose everything in the end.

This story is quite an emotional journey. It covers the complications of real life, blended families, family drama, illness, addiction, recovery, closure, cooperation, compassion and self-improvement. Raven and Jude are in the beginning stages of a committed relationship. Unfortunately, there is bad blood between their families, political rivalries, secrets and unresolved issues that can affect their future. Raven is asked to choose between family loyalty and what she wants - sometimes the choice isn’t easy and things don’t work out. Thank goodness Jude has learned from the mistakes of his first marriage. I like that most of their decisions are thoughtful and mindful of each other. This was an enjoyable weekend read that will make you smile, cry and appreciate the healing power of forgiveness.

Jude is divorced, dealing with ex-wife woes while he tries to have a relationship with Raven. She's a recovering addict, with no support from her family due to her relationship with Jude. Besides these emotional issues, there are family secrets, traditions, and tribal politics to be dealt with. I really enjoyed this book, as I have the others from this author, appreciating the insight into the her culture.
