I bet you're asking yourself, why am I here? What happened that landed me in this cell? Trust me, you aren't the only one.

Who am I?

You'd do better to ask what I am.

You know it's going to be a bad day when you wake up in the wrong man's bed, your favorite leather outfit is completely shredded, your best Manolo Blahniks are broken, and your eighty-dollar manicure is ruined. But would you believe me if I said that's just the tip of the shit storm?

My name is Fiona MacRieve, and I'm a succubus...or I was. I seduced a vampire and we had a fantastic time, until he drained me almost to death. Which wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't forced his blood down my throat thinking it would heal me.Yeah, it didn't.

Cause that's not how I heal. So not only did I wake up to losing my best outfit, I woke up dead.

Now I'm a vampire. Some shit you just can't make up.

Oh.. .and my favorite part? I'm under arrest.

*Please note this is a paranormal prison reverse harem and will feature aggressively snarky characters, a bit of twisted humor and a lot of passion. So come join an amazing group of authors in Nightmare Penitentiary, a place you'll never want to escape from. The author suggests you should always read the forward in her books. This is the first in a trilogy.

I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.

I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.

After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.

Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.

Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.

One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.

I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!

I could not finish this. I hated how the male MCs manipulated and forced her into bonding with them. I hated how all but one of them even listened to what she actually wanted.

I had put this down a while ago, thinking that I might not be in the right mood to read it. But months later, and I still feel angry, depressed and powerless reading how these men treat her and what they are doing to her. What does it mean when you loath the heroes of the book far more than the actual villains?

This might work for others who don't let their emotions get out of control reading, but it didn't work for me.

Heh..

Not really much romance. More like erotica. I'm not a fan of stockholm syndrome. It was not my favorite of this series by far. I finished it though. Wont read the next one.

So I really got suck3d into this book early on. I loved the heroines witty remarks and confidence. Somewhere along the way though I just kept drifting within the book and it think it’s because in the blink of an eye it seemed like everything happened so quick. The relationship between Fiona and her men especially. After being recused from prison by one of her future men all her plans revolve around getting away and building her dream home. Because of circumstances Fiona and the men can’t really separate and so they spend a lot of time together, most of it having sex or with them draining her in order to remove the traces of a shadow being from her spirit. There’s also the matter of her maker, aka the asshat who stupidly turned a succubus into a vamp, something not only unheard of but probably supernaturally illegal as well lol. He’s in hiding at the moment but other than that and one more guy joining her harem in the end, I didn’t get a lot of gripping story arcs from the book, there was no overarching theme to the trilogy that I could pick out so I’m hoping there’s more in the next book. Wish the story kept me as engaged as I was at the start. It was still an ok read, just not quite the exciting prison RH I was hoping for.

Decent Quick Read

This book is a fast burn fast paced book. It did not take me long to finish at all and I was engaged in the story the entire time even if the plot is minimal it works. There are some typos or sentence structures that didn’t make sense to me. Overall I really do like Fiona and the men she meets. I’m excited to see where this goes.

Inexplicable

Fiona, the female protagonist, is so “snarky” that she categorically refuses to leave the penitentiary and violently attacks the person who makes the mistake of trying to help her. Why? No idea. She comes off as having oppositional defiance disorder - whatever she claims to ‘want’/‘need’, the moment someone tries to give it to her she changes her mind and does the exact opposite. She won’t lift a finger to help herself.

Fiona is a succubus who had the bad judgement to engage with a hungry vampire. When he thinks he's killed her he tries to save her and creates the impossible. A Hybrid, An Abomination.

The Vampire Prince sends her to Nightmare Penitentiary, with the intent of her never getting out.

Fiona isn't drinking the blood they try to feed her, she only feeds when the Warden visits her and she feeds both her succubus nature and the vampire although the later under protest.

Fiona hasn't asked to be rescued, she has more or less resigned herself to the fact she isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Then a 'guard' shows up and expects her to just go with him.

Things obviously weren't going as planned and between her bleeding wrists and no answers, Fiona's temper was rising.

Maddox wasn't the most diplomatic and with some help from Fin they calm her. It isn't until the next night that they actually get her away with Rogue's help. Well Rogue takes off with her so that counts, right?

I love this book, these guys don't have a clue other than knowing they have to help her transition properly. Fiona has to accept both sides of her nature to survive. It's the forth in this group, Alfred, who is the turning point in more ways than one.

Plenty of twist and turns, ups and downs, some giggles and plenty of Kindle Melting Sizzle, as we meet and get to know these guys who believe Fiona is theirs.

I really can't wait for the next book!

Let’s talk about Fi! She is so feisty and sassy with a side of obstinate! Plus her inner dialogue is a hoot. I absolutely love her character and seriously want to be as sassy as she is when I grow up. I really loved the plot that was laid out and also how old Alfred, Rogue, Maddox and Fin are but they each have such fun character traits. You don’t feel the old energy from Maddox or Fin, they seem so young compared to Rogue and Alfred! I am so excited to see what Fi and her men do next. PS this is a super fun and steamy read!

This is probably the first of the prison books that I’ve read that has started with a bang. I like that the main character is so tough and willful. She can really hold her own. But, the guys are so great. Controlling yet trying so hard to be gentlemen even though she fights it the whole way. I’m really intrigued to see these relationships grow. Such a great bunch of characters.

This was a weird read for me LMAO I ADORED the f*ck out of the guys--Fin and Rogue are my fav--but I don't know how to feel about Fi. Though, toward the end of this book, I did start to enjoy her character more. Awesome world, very atmospheric, and I'm excited for the next book!

I can never tell if it's the writing, Fiona or the added POV of the guys. I just really love this series. The insta lust definitely works for me despite the fact that none of them are listening to her. Even watching Fiona struggle with them just adds to their relationship. IRL, this would be a major red flag, but in this world its so damn hot!

***TRIGGER WARNING: Book starts with what I'd say is dub-con or at least coerced sex because the heroine, a succubus-vampire hybrid, is starving for lust and blood, and the warden of the prison she's in only fucks her when she's this hungry so that she stays alive (and she refuses to feed on bagged blood). Then there's a descriptive flashback from the heroine of what I'd call non-con, but in her narrative she was more upset about the guy turning her into a vampire and ruining her outfit. Definitely nonconsensual blood-drinking because she was trying to get his teeth out of her neck, but since he had his dick in her at the same time, I'm a little wobbly on whether it's dub or non-con. Also, fair warning that since the heroine is a succubus, she'll be feeding on the lust of her partner(s) and become "lust drunk", so she fades in and out of sex scenes with her mates. If you feel weird about that like I did, it helps to think of those scenes as her being in heat, as if this were sweet Omegaverse where there's usually a blanket of consent over the span of the heat between partners. Even then, I will say that it's still a little different here because some scenes, especially the last one, feel very impersonal and cold because of the blood lust taking over everything. ***

SPOILERS BELOW

So I actually got a little bored with this at some point toward the middle because of the sheer amount of sex. To be fair, I did ask for this by choosing to read RH with a succubus, so I'd say in all that this was still pretty damn good. The best part and what made pushing through worth it was the awakening and arrival of Alfred, one of the harem members. He was amazing, especially in comforting Fiona, and his intro was written so fucking perfectly.

While Alfred was my absolute favorite, all of the guys were very likeable and well-defined; no one got lost in the mix. Maddox was great; I love how quickly he got attached to Fiona, especially toward the end when he could feel her really hovering at the edge of death at least twice when Alfred was completely draining her to get rid of the warden's shadow-infection. Fin was sweet but he still needs some more page time. Same thing with Rogue, who was intriguing but not yet convinced that the heroine is their mate.

One last thing I'll mention is that I loved the memories that Fiona saw when she was feeding from Alfred, how he met each of the guys in the past and saved them. Author, you had already sold me on Alfred with his introduction; you didn't have to convince me more with these memories. 😭

Despite my praises here...I'm not sure if I'll continue reading the series. It didn't take me that long, but I feel like I really dragged my feet to finish this until Alfred showed up. And even with precious Alfred now in the picture, I'm still not feeling the urge to go read the next installment right away. I might just stop here and be happy with that perfect slice of Alfred I got. If I ever re-read this, it's probably only going to be starting from his intro until the end, which is only about 28 pages.

I was please to find more Paranormal Prison/Nightmare Penitentiary books because its been fun reading different authors with a common theme and elements but entirely different stories. This book wasn’t listed in the original series on KU, but I found it mentioned at the end of the one of the books that WAS listed. Already I was drawn in and though I still loathe the warden, whose name we finally learn in this book is Dorran, I was glad he was there because he played a big part in Fiona’s predicament. He was like a drug pusher, made her dependent on him, and only him, so he could possess her and track her and control her. It's why her mates (which she didn’t accept in this book) rescued her and worked so hard to detox his taint from her blood. Otherwise he'd be able to track her, find her, and control her. I loved the castle setting and the Celtic touches to this story. I also love the type of men who saved her and took care of her. Maddox, the dragon shifter/vampire who was rugged, ripped, and grumpy and who called her “kitten” which she hated. Fin, the druid/vampire who was gorgeous, charming, protective, and generous. He could read her thoughts and speak to her in her mind. He called her "Beautiful." Then, there was Rogue, the epitome of a Norse god whose second identify of his dual nature was a mystery until the end and who seemed resistant to her but also he called her svass which is an ancient Norse endearment meaning “loved” or “precious.”

“Fin and Maddox had been amazing, and even if he wasn’t exactly warm, Rogue had been a generous enough companion.”

Once Alfred finally came into the picture, their little family was complete but Fiona still fought it, and she was still tainted with that damned warden’s blood and his mark on her soul. I hate that guy. At times I was angry with Fiona for fighting these four magnificent guys who were trying to save her and cherish her, but then I remembered what she was, a succubus, they didn’t settle down or do long term. She was a free spirit and an independent soul with a fierce love of life. If these guys kept trying to contain her, they were going to lose her and when I remembered that, I wasn’t angry with her anymore but with them. Not as angry as I was with the POS that turned her, Dimitri, or that damned warden (I really hate him). This story just proved that men are men, even the "good" ones still have male traits to try and control or contain women. The book ended a bit unsatisfying but that seems to be the norm for this genre. IMHO its a greedy thing to to take a perfect one book story and split it up to make a series. Its why I never start a book or series without knowing its complete. I’ve gone through enough incomplete series waiting for the next book to know not to do that ever again. Shame on both the author(s) and publisher(s) for their greed. Otherwise, I would have rated this 5 stars if the story were complete since the writing is so skilled and vivid and the story so well done.

Prior to this, I had only read Long's contemporary RH, the Untouchable series, so I didn't know what she'd be like as a paranormal writer. I think that the concept is interesting, and I find this idea of the vampire-other hybrid is something that I might have seen before, but it's new enough that I'm into seeing where this goes.

So far, the vampire side does seem to revolve a lot with the blood aspect, but I think that's due to what the men have to do in this first book- not going to go into the spoilers of it, but they need to help Fi complete her transition and take care of some other issues that happened while she was in prison. I want to know what other aspects of the vampire will come into play, and I do want to learn more about how the vampire side will interact with her succubus as well as how the vampire side has altered/interacts with the men's other halves too.

As far as the characters go, we don't get super in depth into who they are and what really makes them tick, but there are a lot of hints that there could be some good stories lying under the surface of each one. Right now, with book one, we get kind of the surface traits to help distinguish them- the possessive alpha who's very doting once he's winning the lady over, the cheeky flirt, and the more strong and silent type who is actually a bit of a broody mother hen. There's a fourth on the horizon, but we don't get the chance to learn too much about him until snippets later toward the end.

Fi, I liked, and I appreciated her sass, but I'm curious to see what others will think of her. Sometimes her snark and reactions may be a bit much for readers- making them push her toward the b**chy label, but if you keep what's happened to her in perspective, I think it makes sense. There's also the benefit that she's confident, s*xually aware and proud, and she's coming around to face the music of what her life has really now become (at least kind of).

Overall, I think I just wanted a bit more. I would have liked some more backstory about the others- Rogue, Maddox, and Fin, and I would have appreciated some more extension on what enemies they're really preparing for as well as Fi's not-so-stellar impression on the ruling vampires. With the depth/detail that Long's Untouchable series goes into, I was surprised that this one flew by faster, but perhaps book two will shed more light.

As always I'll start by saying that this is part of the Paranormal Prison series. They all take place in Nightmare Penitentiary but you do not have to read all of the books to keep up. They are all standalone. Not all of the books in the series are RH either. This one is.

This book is about Fiona. She's a succubus whose entire life gets flipped upside down when she makes the mistake of going home with a vampire. Her sassy mouth pushes him too far and after accidentally draining her, he tries to heal her with his blood. Bad idea. Now she's something that should not exist. A hybrid. That's how she ends up in Nightmare Penitentiary. Even though she knows what happened to her, she is in complete denial. Like usual when you are in denial about something, it turns out to be very bad for you. Just because she doesn't want to be a vampire and feed her vampire side doesn't mean she doesn't have to. Fiona finds herself in denial about a lot of things throughout the book.

Being a hybrid is a myth. As mentioned before, they aren't supposed to exist. There is a group of male hybrids who do and have been waiting on Fiona. Once they learn she is in Nightmare, they start working to get her out.

First off, let me say that this book is HOT. There is a ton of sexy times. Like do NOT read this book in public. If you are not a lover of a ton of sex scenes then you might want to skip this one. However, there was an actual story in there as well. Fiona is a very sassy and funny character. I love her. Even if she can be frustrating at times with her stubbornness. She had me totally cracking up at times. We meet the guys one by one and while they have all been together for a long time, they are all so different. Man is she going to have her hands full with these guys. I feel like we were just starting to get a real feel of who they are and their pasts right there at the end.

I really enjoyed this story. A lot more than I thought I would going in because I am not always a lover of the tons of sex. These characters just really drew me in, especially Maddox, and I can't wait to read the next one. I feel like it's going to be a bumpy road with Fiona and her stubborn self but I'm ready.

Succubus Chained (Paranormal Prison) Kindle Edition

by Heather Long

Thanks to Heather Long for the complimentary eARC. I am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.

Wow! There is a lot of steam in the fast paced, Reverse Harem addition to the Paranormal Prison series. So much heat and steam that your kindle will be begging for mercy because it is melting.

Fiona is a Succubus … and something else. She was drained by a vampire during a mutual feeding session. When he accidentally drained her, he gave her his blood, thinking it would save her. It did the exact opposite. She wakes up as a hybrid – part vampire and part succubus. This act of simply being lands her in a windowless cell in the Nightmare Prison. Her only crime was that she was not supposed to exist. Enter Maddox and his 'brothers' to rescue her.

The first few pages is a hot, smexy sex scene involving Fi and the Warden. And it only gets hotter from there as she works to escape and to feed both of her dual sides.

Beyond the nearly continuous sex scenes, the best part of the book is the narration by Fiona. She is snarky, sarcastic and under it all, tormented. Her voice is funny in a way that had me smirking through most of the story, which was broken up by laughs, snickers and guffaws. While the men's POV appears sprinkled through out, they lack the sly, stand-up-like snark of Fiona's voice

Most of the book is spent in various places having sex and swapping blood. Which is unfortunate, there is so much that could have been done in terms of plot and backstory. We don't find out exactly what all the guys were to the very final chapter. I would have like some information and fill in that wasn't sex, architecture or clothing.

All in all, I enjoyed the book, even if it was, in my opinion, much shallower than it needed to be.

4 stars out of 4

This book has a fierce, funny, snarky, strong, spitfire of a FMC who totally owns her sexuality no question. And ofcourse includes Alpha types for that awesome character balance of when very strong characters are put together. Very interesting world and story line that jumps right in told from multiple POV, RH, part of Paranormal Prison. It has the fated mate type of thing the hybrid guys think that Fiona is their mate that they been waiting for has she's the first female to survive becoming a hybrid she's a succubus that gets turned into a vampire and then immediately gets put into prison and they sense that and they come to rescue her because they think that nobody should be put in prison for that and also because they think that she's like their fated mate and there's a prophecy. And they have to get her away from the prison and the Shadow Demon in charge of said prison who it's been feeding on her and got her addicted while also planning to deal with the Vampire who is responsible for siring her among many other things there's a lot going on the guys trying to figure her out if they can make it work if they can share Fiona being thrown into all of this and just wanting to be a succubus at first but taking everything in stride and like I said super strong female main character. You jump into the book really fast so much happens and it sucks you in like a succubus that's corny but you know or like a vampire also corny but how can you not like use those puns lol anyways this book does suck you in and keeps you there excited for succubus Unchained book 2 next.

Trying to explain a book that starts out in a place called ‘Nightmare Penitentiary’ can be daunting… Let me say that Ms. Long has created a phenomenal world where paranormal activity is a very sexy, very smexy, and hawt experience! It is definitely a book one and for me: it was the background to all that had happened, when the story opened; the story that happens in this book; and all that is about to happen.

At the opening, to say that Fiona is having a bad few days would be an understatement. She is, or was, a succubus who was just turned by a vampire (who abandoned her), imprisoned by a demon warden (who is trying to exert control over her), my favorite part – her best outfit and shoes were destroyed, and she is NOT happy. Okay, another understatement! She is not a very cooperative inmate and I love that she is super snarky.

Enter two…let’s call them ‘saviors’! When trying to break her out/rescue her, she fights them every step of the way. It’s a push/pull/I’m-gonna-smack-you event that will get your heart pumping. There’s Rogue and Fin, who infiltrate the prison. Then comes Maddox, who she meets later in the story. And Alfred…the fourth member of this reverse harem, action, rescue, love story!

So much happens in this first book that I don’t want to give any spoilers. Know that this is a very smexy, fast-paced, deeply snarky, paranormal story. And it hooked me so fast that I want to read more. Can’t wait for the next book!

Fiona is a newly turned vampire succubus hybrid. BTW hybrids don't exist. "Supposedly" Fi is in denial about her current status, locked in Nightmare penitentiary being fed by a Shadow demon. She's biting her time for her revenge. However a large growling vamp tries to break her out but Fi has other plans.
Fiona is an absolute riot. No self preservation or guards her mouth at all. You never know what she's gonna say. I just love sass.
Maddox growly, grunting dragon/vampire, Fin handsome charming druid/vampire and Rogue the stoic ice fae/vampire gets Fi out and save at Alfred's keep.
A fun paranormal romance by a 'one-click' author of mine. I have read most of Heather's contemporary romance novels, loved them all, never picked up one of her others. I regret not finding Fiona sooner. Never knew I needed this character in my life. Mystery, intrigue and spice makes this book all nice

She loved being a succubus, but now she's so much more.

She didnt ask to become what she is, but it happened and then she landed with a bump inside a cell.

Now freedom is on the tip of her tounge, but she trust the stranger with her life?

Another installment in the paranormal prison series, set inside nightmare penitentiary.

To be completely honest with you I was a little disappointed with this. It felt like the prison was an after thought for once again the main story is outside the prison walls.

The characters didnt particularly hold my attention. They lacked depth and because there were quite a few, they had to share the spotlight.

I wanted more time with each of the men, to see their true personality and I didnt get that.

The sex scenes were great, nice and steamy just the way I like them, but as for the rest, it just didnt hit the mark.

I walked away from this book not really feeling anything and that saddened me as this series was one I had been eagerly awaiting.

Sooo goooood! 🤤🤤

This book was scorchingly hot! Like holy hot damn you will need to take a break in this book I can guarantee that.

Apart from all the delicious scenes this book also has an excellent storyline, one which I really enjoyed because I like ancient things and thusy book, even though it's not, gives me mythology vibes.

I'll just say that this book has some very delicious ancient men/hybrids that will blow your socks off.

The fmc is a very spunky, strong and stubborn character who plays her role of as a sucumbus vampire hybrid very well. I'm not going to say anything else because I think you need to read her to really capture and understand her character.

The warden gets some action in this book as well. If you have read the others in this series then you know who I'm talking about and yeah he's still as creepy as hell.

I read this book in one sitting and it was a very enthralling read that I definitely recommend.

Even better news is that this book is now going to be in a series of its own!! I can't wait for book 2 to come out.

Ok, there is a lot of sex but we are talking about a succubus so it's totally normal.
We have a main character that makes the mistake of sleeping with a vampire who drains her in the process and instead of letting her heal on her own makes her drink his blood and turns her. She then goes to complain to his ruler only to be thrown into the penitentiary and to be taken advantage by a shadow demon who feeds on her soul. Eventually, she gets rescued and she meets other dual creatures like her. The worst of the being Rogue - how is a turned ice elf. He is metaphorically quite cold with her and they as a whole does to respond to any of the boundaries she has elected. In fact, they would not let her have clothes, leaving them is out of the question. And Alfred wakes up and he kills her time and time again in order to save her from the taint from the shadow demon.
I will definitely read the second book but these guys are assholes for not taking her basic boundaries into consideration. In fact, I'm rooting for her to leave them so they learn a bit about humility.

I found this reverse harem story a bit darker then some of the stories I have read lately. That said it definitely kept my attention with it lead characters and the unusual storyline. Fiona is a rather complex character. She is a succubus also turned into a vampire by mistake which sets up the storyline. It seems being a vampire hybrid is a crime that will get you put in Nightmare penitentiary, a paranormal prison. This is where the story begins and as the story unfolds we meet her hybrid rescuers who try to convince her that she is their destined mate. There is a fair amount of sexy encounters as well as conflict along the way. Especially when Fiona is in denial of her hybrid status. I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment.

Great Addition to the Nightmare Penitentiary Series!

I am really loving the Nightmare Penitentiary Series, and Succubus Chained is such a neat addition. The idea of hybrids being a myth to the supernatural community much the way the supernatural community is a myth to the humans is fascinating and I really hope we get to see more about that!

Fiona is an interesting character, and I am so looking forward to seeing more of her. We saw her snark and defiance in the early chapters with Fin and especially with Maddox, and I hope that continues as she continues her journey in book two. We were teased with even more character backstory and complexity (oh Rogue!) in the final chapters, and that promises great things for the next book.

Caring kidnappers

Fiona's story is a mix of dark romance with reverse harem and a whole lot of drama mixed in. My only issue with Fiona is how blasé she was about the shadow demon pretty much using her and messing with her soul while she was so focused on revenge for the douche who changed her to a vampire. I can understand that being a vampire sucks, literally, but becoming a slave to a demon is quite another thing.

The other issue I had was the guys. Keeping her naked and blissed out was so wrong. I know she enjoyed the feedings but it just felt like they had her in a gilded cage after kidnappingher from prison. Their only saving grace is that they really did care for her.
