2.5 stars. In the beginning, I was thinking I could give 4 stars because I liked the author's writing style. Then I started disliking all the characters, so thought 2 stars. I threw another 0.5 star in because the story itself wasn't boring. Wasn't brilliant, but it didn't make me want to just stop reading.
I struggled to read through this novel because it is quite hard when you don't like or can't empathise with the main character. She was constantly indecisive, she seemed to have good insights about her own life and her relationship with her husband but kept just nagging about it in her head. Her ex coming back to her life to rescue her from her boring domestic life was unoriginal but not ridiculous. BUT, the appearance of the third man was really quite unnecessary. Having nostalgic memories with ex and being attracted to him again was all fine (well not really as she was married with a child), but also trying to hook up with another random man just because he was there to offer himself wasn't cool at all. This made her from a lonely, under-appreciated wife who needed some excitement in her life to just a slutty mum who wanted casual sex and attention.
There were many things that were just so unrealistic and I didn't like, but things that stood out were that the husband, who everyone thought was handsome with good job, had never had a girlfriend before marriage?! And in the end, this woman who cheated the hell out of her husband ended up not even having to apologise to anyone, achieving everything she wanted, because her husband was so scared of other girls and the whole family agreed that she was the one?! I mean come on. What is she, a goddess?
I was looking forward to seeing how the story was going to end and it was very disappointing. I wasn't sure what the author's message was - having an affair is fine if your husband refuses to have sex with you? Or women should get out and throw themselves to every availabe man? Hmnnn....
